http://bitcoinwatch.com/ seems to be up still.

You can get around the "hard drive/bandwidth thrashing" on the Bitcoin-QT client by downloading the block-chain manually and running Bitcoin with the -rescan and -checkblocks parameters the first time you run Bitcoin with the new block-chain files.

P.S. This is simply a faster more efficient way to do it.  Not the best way if you don't want to have your own copy of the block-chain.
343  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: August 12, 2012, 04:14:41 PM

Do you have any abnormal setup, such as bitcoin-qt home directory in a non-standard location?  Or using a non-standard port for bitcoin-qt?

Armory expects to find blk000*.dat in your C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin directory, and expects the Satoshi client to be accessible through port 8333.

Also, next time it's open in offline mode, try going to File-->Export Log File and check the file for anything that looks suspicious.  I doubt there's much there (I don't have much networking-related logging code) but it won't hurt.

Anything else you can think of that is non-standard?

I use Bitcoin on port 9050 through Tor.  I tried it without Tor and it worked fine.  Is their any way to configure the Armory client to work while running Bitcoin through TOR?
344  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: August 12, 2012, 03:13:33 PM
A few days ago I downloaded and installed Armory on my windows 7 laptop, but I can't seem to get it to run in online mode.  Whenever I try to run Armory it says it can't detect the satoshi client.  I have Bitcoin-QT (version 6.2-beta) running and the block-chain is synced with the network.  Is there anything big I'm missing or do I have a unique problem?
345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How connected are you? on: June 28, 2012, 12:37:33 AM
That's bad.  You're using connections that other users could be using.  How about opening up a port instead.  That way you help improve the network rather than harming it.
I am running through Tor and can't use port forwarding without losing anonymity. Undecided  I realized >50 was quite a lot and purposely lowered it before you posted.  Wink  I've more than done, and continue to do, my share in improving the Bitcoin economy and network. Cool
346  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How connected are you? on: June 27, 2012, 06:48:19 PM
>50 without port forwarding.  ( Cheesy I use lots of addnode commands from http://blockchain.info/connected-nodes Cheesy)  With more connections your transactions are spread throughout the network faster, and you get the latest transactions and blocks sooner.  So it really isn't necessary unless you are mining, but it's still nice for the average user.
347  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BAMT not working when deleting # in front of overclocking settings in .conf file on: June 24, 2012, 01:12:00 AM
Try just using core_speed etc instead of core_speed_0 core_speed_1 core_speed_2.  You want to set core_speed to the clock you want to use while mining.  You can do this for memory and voltage too.  You may want to try a lower clock too, like 750.  I believe >900 is pretty high for a 5870.

I hope this helps,
BookLover

Try posting your whole BAMT.conf, and any other information you think would be useful.
349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BAMT major issue on: May 17, 2012, 04:49:05 PM
Have you tried booting BAMT on another machine?  It is possible BAMT isn't compatible with your laptop's hardware.
350  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BAMT major issue on: May 15, 2012, 01:22:39 PM
Have you tried downloading BAMT again?  I've had some trouble with a bad download before.(No offense to the creator(s) of BAMT.  It was probably user error.)  This could be your problem.
351  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BAMT major issue on: May 14, 2012, 02:02:29 PM
You need to post more info for anyone to help you.  Try posting your hardware specs, and anything else you can think of like the BAMT version you are using.

Huh, Shocked it worked!  Huh  I managed to get the adapter functioning and was trying to get it to communicate with my WPA2 network through wpa_supplicant when the system failed and now it will not reboot.  Pity it fails just when I'm making progress. Oh well guess I'll just have to set up another BAMT bootable usb drive.

Thanks, you really helped

The output is "Bus 001 Device 012: ID 0bda:8187 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter".

Apmex requires your credit card number even if you go through spendbitcoins. Sad  Trader Steve is a good option if you don't mind random rounds.

(bump)  Could the problem be that the dependencies have been removed?
358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Help needed to setup wireless usb adapter with BAMT on: April 12, 2012, 10:58:07 PM
I'm trying to get a Rosewill RNX-G1LX wireless usb adapter to work on BAMT.  I've downloaded and installed both ndiswrapper and ndisgtk because I could not find any linux drivers for this adapter.  I believe I have successfully installed a driver from the CD provided by Rosewill with ndisgtk/ndiswrapper and have restarted networking using "/etc/init.d/networking restart", but when I run "iwlist wlan0 scanning" I get an error message saying interface doesn't support scanning. Huh

I'm not very used to linux and I've hit a wall. Embarrassed  Any suggestions, ideas or thoughts that might help would be greatly appreciated.  Cheesy

[Edit]  This is a list of more information if you have any questions please post:
When I use the command "lsusb" I see the wireless usb adapter.
When I use the command "iwconfig" I do not see wlan0.  However, before using ndisgtk I did.
BAMT is currently working via ethernet to a windows machine with a Rosewill RNX-G1LX wireless usb adapter installed.

Thanks,
BookLover

(marking)  Just out of curiosity, would you happen to be able to get jolly ranchers?  If you did would they come in assorted flavors or just one of my choosing?
360  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin + Tor on: March 22, 2012, 02:04:35 PM
Connect through Tor before downloading the block chain.
After connecting over tor the client will just be able to barely keep up.
I've never had this problem.  He probably just used a slow node.  You can configure Tor with the torrc file to only use fast nodes if speed ever does become a problem.
