121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Make No Mistake: MyBitcoin is NOT Back Up! on: August 08, 2011, 12:16:59 PM
MyBitcoin.com USERS HAD BITCOIN STOLEN. They are returning a portion 49% of them to you: Not sure where to send them? CALL ME. 646-580-0022

The jury is still out on if they were stolen or not...  see my problem is why return anything if it was stolen?  Why this elaborate scheme of returning 1/2 of them?   Why not just run?

Because this way they can make it look like they haven't stolen anything.
122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / To Europeans who need to withdraw funds on: August 08, 2011, 12:07:27 PM
I got tired of waiting for Mt. Gox and Tradehill to re-enable SEPA withdrawals, so I started looking for other methods of withdrawing USD/EUR to my bank account for as low of a price as possible. I saw some members recommending Intersango, but the trade volume is way too low and you don't exactly get competitive prices.

So, here's what I did:

1. Sell your BTC on Mt Gox.
2a. If you want the money as soon as possible: Withdraw as a Mt.Gox redeemable code.
2b. If you want the money as cheaply as possible: Withdraw directly to LibertyReserve. 1% fee.
3. If you chose 2a, redeem your code at AurumExchange. 2% fee, plus 1% LR fee.
4. Go to ECardOne and sell your LR$. Money will be sent to you in 2-5 business days with a SEPA transfer. 1.8% fee.

This method is a bit more expensive than just doing a SEPA transfer directly from Mt. Gox or Tradehill, especially if you choose to go through AurumExchange, but if you need to withdraw your money right now, this is probably the best alternative.

Hope this helps some people.

bump, mods please enable deleting OPs within the short-time edit window, it's annoying if you make topic in wrong forum by mistake
You can move your own threads.
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apparently something worse than 'worst case' has happened at MtGox... on: August 07, 2011, 05:20:13 PM
Exactly. Why is this so hard to understand?
What makes you think we don't understand? I understand completely. What I don't understand, however, is why Tradehill and Mt. Gox make promises that they can't keep, and don't even keep us updated. We were told that SEPA transfers would be back no later than the 5th of August, and I planned accordingly. But now it's the 7th, and SEPA is still disabled and we haven't heard anything from Mt. Gox or Tradehill. And paying $45 for a wire transfer isn't exactly ideal.

I'll try Intersango, since people here are recommending it.

What's a Mio Bitcoin?
127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apparently something worse than 'worst case' has happened at MtGox... on: August 07, 2011, 04:19:00 PM
Why is everyone freaking out? It is not like your money is lost, they have said countless time they are having issues with banks.  As far as tradehill is concerned they still will send you a check last I saw. (I do not do Gox after reading about the "incident")
I haven't heard anything about the whole sending checks thing, only for Dwolla. But even if it's true, it costs around $80 to cash out an international check here in Sweden...
I'm "freaking out" because I need this money. Now.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apparently something worse than 'worst case' has happened at MtGox... on: August 07, 2011, 03:18:58 PM
Tradehill too. They said SEPA transfers would be back early this week. They're still not back.

You realize this is an advertisement for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, right?

One of the best game series ever.

This is clearly a scam! It's too good to be true!
131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTCLottery Shut down - now the guy has all our emails on: August 06, 2011, 06:03:20 PM
what a person can do with email addresses of known users of BTC is to try to brute force the password.
then simply use imap to watch those emails until something juicy comes in. for example, realizing the user
has a mtgox account. then reset the password via mtgox, get the email they send, login to mtgox, and profit.

naturally this assumes the user put in an email account that he uses for most everything.. like 99% of us do.

with that said... a good majority of BTC related websites look like hobbyist stuff that i would not trust to use, ever.
especially "lottery/gambling/pyramid/etc" things. those just scream lame to me.
Brute forcing is not possible on the majority of sites today.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTCLottery Shut down - now the guy has all our emails on: August 06, 2011, 05:39:52 PM
The reason it shut down was probably because he didn't see it as profitable. He was only charging 0.3 BTC per month to advertise, and only got two advertisers in the time the site was up. This is 0.6 BTC per month, and it seemed like he took a 5% fee... which is only 0.03 BTC per month.

So I don't think this is a way for him to run off with all your emails. Most likely he just didn't see the business model as particularly profitable and chose to try something different instead.

EDIT: Aaaand... my suspicions were confirmed in the above post.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Here we go again ...now its Instawallet.org ? on: August 06, 2011, 02:49:30 PM
Retards why cant you just keep your own wallet. Is it really so hard?  All i see around here is a bunch of people crying about how someone stole my bitcoins.  well you deserve it. IMO

Watch what you say man, you could jinx yourself there Wink.  For a lot of people keeping there wallet online is much safer and convenient.  The fact is more and more people using bitcoin these days aren't tech people, and you can't expect them to know what measures they need to take to protect their money either on a server or on their own computer.  Instead of people pointing and laughing at the people who lost their bitcoins why not make security software to help protect them?
Really, it's safer to store your wallet on your own computer even without encryption and backups. Would you hand your wallet to a stranger on the street for safekeeping, provided there was no insurance on your money at all? Would it not be safer to keep it in your own pocket, even without security measures such as a chain?

Looks like people haven't learned their lesson.
135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin group on Facebook get taken down? on: August 06, 2011, 03:03:05 AM
... I deleted my Facebook a couple of years ago.

I hope you are aware that your lamebook profile is still there...

Just try to login to it and you'll see it magically appearing from the bottomless pit that lamebook servers are.

I guess CIA must pay them well so they never delete your accounts. They just put them dormant.

That's the main reason i only use lamebook as a work/marketing tool and using completely fake personal information.
You can send them an email and have them remove your account for good. I believe Lifehacker wrote an article detailing the process.

I think it's hilarious how you think LR would want to steal your $200.

Bitcoins tried to steal my dollars more than a few times
It ate my children, too.

Or maybe I just never had any. Hmm.

The address has no history 0.o
He was joking. This whole thing is obviously a joke.
140  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin Randomizer, just a stupid pyramid scheme on: August 05, 2011, 11:28:11 PM
At least the Randomizer seems to work.

Got my first BTC today.

But still very few people in... hope it grows as large as the old one...

Doesn't this look weird: "No withdrawals possible..." Maybe another scam? I
It's run by xyu, the owner of bitcat.ch. Of course it could still be a scam, but he's trusted.
