Haha, IBB is getting a lot of business now Cheesy

Quote
1. A captcha
2. Not allowing emails from disposable email address sites
3. Possibly IP checks, also check if IP is a known proxy IP

My faucet has all this, but despite this few hundred cheating attempts was prevented using additional statistical algorithm. If I would checked ONLY with methods you described above my faucet would be dry now.
Yes, but your faucet is a whole different deal. Every time someone cheats, you lose money. That is not the case with this site, so preventing it is not as important. The only way this could harm the site is if there was A LOT of cheating, leading to it becoming almost impossible for someone who is not using bots to win, meaning almost no real people would visit the site, making it an undesirable site to advertise on.
183  Economy / Gambling / Re: Free Lottery on: August 01, 2011, 10:04:10 PM
Really, all that would be necessary to protect against cheating is:

1. A captcha
2. Not allowing emails from disposable email address sites
3. Possibly IP checks, also check if IP is a known proxy IP

There would still be some cheating, but that's simply something that you'd have to live with. It wouldn't affect advertisers, as even though there are bots, there would still be the same amount of real people.

I really don't see what the problem is.
184  Economy / Gambling / Re: Free Lottery on: August 01, 2011, 09:18:46 PM
How do you prevent multiple requests by one person?

It is quite difficult task. If you cannot do this most probably your service will go bankrupt after few days.
I spent about a month to write a heuristic statistical analyzer that detects fraudulent behavior and it already rejected thousands suspicious requests on my site, but even so it doesn't give 100% probability. Checking e-mail and IP is not enough definitely.

Technical savvy user can easily cheat you by registering many emails and requesting ticket via proxy or TOR node, diluting winning chance of legitimate users.
Bankrupt? How? Do you even understand how this lottery works?
185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Local News Wants to Interview Me About Bitcoins on: August 01, 2011, 08:32:10 PM
Of course you should. It doesn't matter if they're planning to frame Bitcoin in a bad way, because they're going to do that regardless of if they interview you or not. You could contribute in making Bitcoin look better.
186  Economy / Gambling / Re: Free Lottery on: August 01, 2011, 05:40:29 PM
Great idea. How much do you win? Is it based on how much advertising revenue you make, or is it a fixed value?
187  Economy / Lending / Re: Yet another loan thread on: August 01, 2011, 04:01:42 PM
You can take out a loan to get pizza or pay bills.
pretty much anything.
Yup. I got a 5 BTC loan from them. I didn't even have to be very specific with what I was going to use the money for. I think I would even have gotten the loan if I hadn't specified what the money was needed for at all. In fact, I didn't even have to request a loan specifically from them, I was offered one.
188  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: August 01, 2011, 04:24:08 AM
Funds received from MoonShadow successfully. Now I just have to wait for SEPA withdrawals to be enabled again.
189  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: July 31, 2011, 11:19:29 PM
Haha, asking for loans seems to have become popular after I made this thread Cheesy

Just gotta wait for MoonShadow to transfer his funds... and for SEPA withdrawals to be re-enabled on Tradehill, then I will sell and withdraw the funds and pay the bills that need to be paid ASAP Smiley
190  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 + Dirt 2 [Steam vouchers] 0.5BTC on: July 31, 2011, 11:05:38 PM
I'm actually short on money right now, but I couldn't resist at the cheap price of 0.5 BTC.

So I bought two copies of MW2, one for me and one for my girlfriend. I was going to suggest splitting it up in two payments, so I could see if the keys were authentic first. But he suggested it to me first, and this made me feel I could trust him enough to send everything in one payment. So I sent the payment, and after the transaction had a few confirmations, he sent me the two codes and a picture of the vouchers.

I've tested one of the codes, and it is indeed working and completely authentic. The haven't tested the other one, but I'm sure it's working as well.

Great seller, highly recommended.
191  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: July 31, 2011, 07:40:38 PM
I confirm that the funds have been received.

Once again, thank you. Great to see so many people willing to trust a new member even with all the scams that go on here. I really appreciate it.
192  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: July 31, 2011, 07:32:17 PM
My address:

14JW6oDmW3JYKsJZLdKTunaYGukp1UwHXK

Thank you very much. I promise you will have the money back, with 10% gratuity, before or on the 9th of September.
193  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: July 31, 2011, 07:12:25 PM
I would be happy to take the 5 BTC loan (with 10% gratuity) if you can extend the repayment period to the 9th of September.

Thank you.
194  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: July 31, 2011, 06:43:44 PM
yes.

I understand you will be paying interest on the 10 btc ? so paying back 12 btc ?

If you take loan from me you pay no interest. Keep your interest to yourself , in your wallet.

what you think?
It sounds great, but:

1. I already have a deal with MoonShadow.
2. I need at least 10 BTC.
3. MoonShadow has offered me great conditions. I can repay at the latest 15th of September, which is great for me as I'm not sure how long it will take for me to convert my cash to bitcoins and I'm not even 100% sure which exact day I'm getting my money, aside from that it's between the 22nd and the 26th of August. This way I don't have to feel any stress/pressure, I won't have to worry about being labeled a scammer just because it's taking longer than expected for me to transfer the money.

However, I would be happy to take your loan in ADDITION to MoonShadow's loan. An extra 5 BTC to survive the month wouldn't exactly hurt. If I'm granted this loan, I am willing to pay a small percent (say, 10%?) as a "thank you".
195  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: July 31, 2011, 06:20:13 PM
You're the one who runs IBB, right? I love the idea of your bank.

I've already been granted a loan by MoonShadow, but thank you very much for the offer. I will be sure to contact you if I ever need a loan again. Smiley
196  Economy / Gambling / Re: [JACKPOT 5.1 BTC] Bitcatch round #4. Now with jackpot. on: July 31, 2011, 02:00:38 AM
Come on! Where are the people that are supposed to be bidding on the pot? What are you guys thinking?

I'l probably have a go at the jackpot about an hour from the end.
I think it's smarter to go for the jackpot as soon as the second day starts, to be honest. Because that means your deposits are more likely to be paid out, while still having a chance to win the jackpot. Although I understand what you're trying to do. (A "surprise attack", of sorts. Or sniping, if you prefer)
197  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: July 31, 2011, 12:24:38 AM
Honestly, I never kept very much at Mybitcoin.com, because I was wondering how long it would take before the temptations of so much value would get to them, that or someone else managed to hack the site.  It was inevitable, really.
Very wise of you. I don't use Mybitcoin at all for this very reason, I can't afford to lose any money at all, even if it's only a small amount, until I get a monthly income again. (next month)

But it's good to know you haven't lost a lot of money and that the deal is still on, as I really need this loan.
198  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a small loan on: July 30, 2011, 11:51:14 PM
I can't access my Mybitcoin.com account, and blockexployer says that the address that I sent bitcoins to does not appear in the blockchain.  I must admit, this is bad all the way around.  If necessary, I'll go get my savings thumbdrive out of my safety deposit box tomorrow and send the funds from there.
Alright. But I understand if you don't want to go through with this anymore, seeing as you may have just lost a large sum of money because of this debacle. However, if you're still up for it, so am I. These are the best loan conditions I can accept on such short notice.

Although we can still hope the site will come back, I highly doubt it. It must be really frustrating to lose all that money just like that.
199  Economy / Goods / Re: [wts] Mystery Items on: July 30, 2011, 08:20:59 PM
Surprised this isn't getting more attention. Maybe remove the "potential items", so it becomes more mysterious.

http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3413928

This thread doesn't make me feel like we are winning. They have been on a relentless attack on our community for weeks. They misrepresent all of our ideas, and try to paint us all as crazy right wing libertarians. And on top of that some of the openly admitted trolls in that forum are still welcome here, and our mods don't seem to do anything about it... We are not bad people and I have no clue why these people at SA seem to portray us as so? I think we have a good idea that can balance some imbalances in our financial system today. Do I personally believe that Bitcoins are destined to take over every major currency? No. However, I do believe that Bitcoins and other cryptographic currency's have a crucial role to play in the 21st century.
... do you have any idea what SA is?

I can assure you, 90% of the people in that thread are just trying to piss people off.
