WTF is going on with the market?
Where is the big investors?

On vacation. Look to the start of Sept for things to start to pick up. (yes, just my opinion based on seeing a decline in online revenue during summer months over many years)

XCR didt launched . the plan had changed because of BTER. dev said that they will launch it on Sunday.

Majority voting (democracy) in Parliament or even in popular vote (referendum) is one typical example of centralized solutions. It doesn't matter how many people share the same authority. Power is united in one centralized vote.

So if majority has ability to falsify ledger records, it's the same as the majority having the authority to take the physical gold out of your pocket. This is called tyranny of majority.

How is that any different than all of the cryptos where 51% can control it all and do just what you've outlined? It may not have happened yet, but it will eventually.

50 million NXT were stolen from Bter: https://nxtforum.org/news-and-announcements/forgers-have-been-faced-with-a-choice/

there might be a community rollback (I think there won't be)

there is negotiation with the hacker: https://nxtblocks.info/#section/blockexplorer_messages (but I will be surprised if he keeps his word and sends the nxt coins back to Bter)

I am sorry if people will lose money due to Bter bad security measures, nxt price will be in uncertainty for some time now.

I think its a good time to buy more Qora...

The "rollback" isn't a rollback. If it occurs within 720 blocks it's considered a reorganization of the blockchain and that ability is built into the protocol apparently. The patch that's been released for that only removes the theft transactions and rebuilds all others into a new chain. So it's up to the forgers to decide whether or not to implement the patch.

The hacker went to bed apparently. Funny how he got alternate offers and threats, all out there in the NXT blockchain for everyone to read.
1266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | XCR | Launch August | 100% POS | New Source | Trading has begun! on: August 15, 2014, 03:16:09 PM
Looks like rollback option is gaining traction. This is in our best interests.

It was an editting of the blockchain, not a rollback.

ok editing of the blockchain my mistake.

Apparently it's called a reorganization of the blockchain and is built into the protocol if it happens within 720 blocks. Beyond 720 blocks it would be termed a rollback.

You need to stay the hell out of crypto and go back to you bank debit card and paypal, you dont belong here.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
So what you're saying is that crypto currency will never be accepted by big business or the masses. Thought the whole idea was for it to eventually become something that could replace fiat etc? lol

Where did I say that crypto can't be mass adopted? Im waiting

The masses trust their bank cards, paypal etc because there's at least some level of protection from theft etc. Your comment to the other guy says that if one can't accept the anarchy, the "wild west" way of crypto, then they should go back to the relative safety of their bank cards and paypal. In other words, exactly what people want out of their monetary systems, they won't get in crypto. Thus, they'll never accept it as more than a novelty and interesting experiment.

FAIL. Im still waiting

With your well thought out response I can see you're no longer worth responding to.  Carry on with your ideological rants based on some alternate reality.

nothings processing. they halted withdrawals folks.

BTC deposit is disabled as well, damn it, I want to buy more XCR!

do u really wanna deposit at Bter???

Yes, why not? Do you understand that NXT will most likely go through rollback so maximum Bter will lose is 112 BTC they paid to hacker? Bter is around for years now and I'm sure
they won't go bust because of 112 BTC loss.

There will only be a rollback if the majority of the forgers implement the patch. IMO the patch is brilliant as it only rolls back the theft transaction.
1271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: bter hacked and lost 50m nxt on: August 15, 2014, 01:37:30 PM
you are creating a precedent here. It is totally a centralized decision which will set a precedent in the future when and if crypto will be accepted as global currency. It will create the option for big entity to bring his mining power in action whenever a rolling back will be in his favour. This is an unwritten rule. Crypto stands for irreversibility not for lets take another look and if it doesn't suits us lets rewrite history by using latent forces of mining whenever a rolling back suits us.

crypto will never be accepted as a global currency with these types of things happening on a regular basis.  I can understand not wanting to roll back the entire blockchain, but the patch that just rolls back the hackers transactions is a very reasonable solution. There has to be some form of "justice" or anarchy will reign and no one outside the crypto community will take any of this as a serious option.

Threats on the NXT blockchain now.  lol

Quote
Let me present myself. I am a professional investor. I own several million NXT, one of them being on this account. I also own thousands of bitcoins, plus large sums in dollars, stocks, and physical gold. I am announcing here that if for some reason you guys (BTER, the small fish trying to buy the NXT from you, and yourself) screw the deal, then I will have to step up personnally. This can hurt NXT a lot, a make me lose over $1M of NXT investments, but I can assure you that if this happens, I will personnally make sure you end up in jail. And will spend whatever money you end up costing me to track you down for this specific purpose. So, to all: Stop panicking. Let's do thing clear and cut. Do your part of the deal, negociate with BTER. End of story. Thanks for reading. And think.
1273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: bter hacked and lost 50m nxt on: August 15, 2014, 12:58:28 PM
Bter has so far sent 30 BTC then. They should get back at least 15m NXT for that, but fully expect the hacker to run away. Why give the thief more money when he said negotiations are over.

Who sent the other 80 BTC then?

Bter sent the full 100BTC. Not sure about the other 10 or if there was another 10. There was a couple BTC in that account before all this started I think.

That's what I thought as well.

I'm surprised they sent it even after he said the deal was off.

They're clearly panicking.

They were rattled and panicked right from the start.

Because of the  disgusting marketing environment ,as you see ,the BTC price is more and more low in those days and the NXT event unexpectedly today ,  I had to say the chance of launching XCR badly,so even if very  excellent effort from my devs,I also had to say regrettably the coin has failed because of some outer issue not controlling by people. just expect that the market will be better day and day.

I confess I have withdrawn BTC from BTER until the vector of the attack is known and protected against. With a heavy heart I sold my XCR cheaply and withdrew BTC. We need to know more about this hack. But it will only delay XCR.

Figure I might as well get my coin's worth. So I just read this thread from beginning... To include the info listed in the code Graham listed.

Mr Spread, what's that line of code in your db.cpp? Why would you need two different pchmessagestart identifiers for a coin? Which one is your coin's network?

I love looking at code. Don't really know how this all works but it seemed like the ones in db.cpp were used as some sort of header for files like peer.dat. Was curious so went looking and darkcoin, feathercoin, litecoin, reddcoin and of course spreadcoin have the exact same bytes as the header in their peer.dat file. Probably a lot more coins if they were originally based on litecoin.

1279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | Release June | 100% POS | New Source on: August 14, 2014, 12:38:42 PM

So WHEN on August 15. They Show NO precision when. WTF?

Why does it matter? Your life depends on it for some reason?

They said it would be earlier than the 15th if they got things fixed. Given that didn't happen, I wouldn't be surprised if it might not even be ready on the 15th. Squashing bugs takes whatever time it takes and can't be predicted to some exact date and time.

Someone seems intent on dumping today. 2.658% of the total supply in volume today, 251 sells (2,478,097), 53 buys (168,596), 39.368BTC sold. These numbers assume the Bter API data is correct for the last 24 hours.
