741  Other / Meta / Re: Can Mods Lock A Thread To Prevent Spam? on: February 10, 2018, 06:02:00 PM
Moderators do lock threads that have concluded their purpose, where people are still replying solely to spam. I don't normally make that judgement from just a regular report for spam, but if there are a ton of reports about the same thread, and its very obviously concluded I will though. The subject matter of the thread also is something taken into account. Someone asking a question, receiving a through answer, and then giving a clear "ok, I understand, thank you" is far more likely to get locked than something that may require later comment like a changing situation.
742  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Auction] The first 3 .999 Silver Garlic Bread Loaves! on: February 09, 2018, 09:18:18 PM
All @ 0.02BTC

Current highest bid. Something else I forgot to mention, at the end of the auction, as I mentioned somewhere, I'll do a quick repolishing so they arrives as shiny as possible. I'd also be happy to apply a layer of renaissance wax onto your pieces if you'd like to keep them from tarnishing. Personally I prefer the metal without wax, and don't mind polishing whenever I feel like it, but if you want your piece to be presentation ready at all times, and prioritize that over the hand feel of the metal, I'd be happy to do it. I don't know how well the hologram would adhere to the wax, so I'd leave the bottom unwaxed.

You could always get lucky and get the pretty iridescent tarnish that comes from silver oxidizing without other contaminants present. The picture attached I believe is done chemically, but I've got a handful of silver coins that have tarnished similarly naturally.

743  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Auction] The first 3 .999 Silver Garlic Bread Loaves! on: February 09, 2018, 02:42:44 AM
So beautiful.

All at 0.0175 btc

Happy to pay in garlic if you prefer; it is tasty and as a root vegetable can stay fresh for several years

Current highest bid, and much appreciate  Smiley

I'm happy to accept just about any payment type. I'll convert some into BTC, an assortment of alt coins, and more metals regardless, so its all the same to me.
744  Other / Meta / Re: Why is account selling allowed? on: February 08, 2018, 08:16:45 PM
Who said that it is allowed. Just because some members do this, it does not mean that buying and selling accounts is allowed. They should be banned, only red trsut is not enough for them.

We don't ban the selling of merit, people just frown upon it, the same way they do the selling of accounts. An exactly as owlcatz said, there is no way to enforce any rules against the sale of accounts. If we ban the 1 in 10 we catch, the 9 that make it through the cracks will be able to do more damage to people who don't consider the possibility that an account has been sold, because its not allowed. Its more productive to just tell everyone that it is openly allowed, and to be vigilant.

Let me ask one question in connection to this thread, if selling account is not allowed, (though many do it), is it okay to pass an account to any other relative/s?

No payment  exchange had been done, is there a process wherein you will inform the admin about this thing?Huh??!?

Once again, account selling is allowed, so pass it onto your mailman if you'd like, you don't need to tell the admins.
745  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Auction] The first 3 .999 Silver Garlic Bread Loaves! Holograms in on: February 08, 2018, 08:00:40 PM
As promised, the holograms arrived today, so I'm posting the pictures. Like I said, simple, but effective. On a side note, if I go and get fancy holograms made for use on the silver garlic bread loaves, I will get in contact with anyone who has purchased one, and ship them the new hologram as well. That said, I'll probably just stick with these holograms until my next creation.

746  Other / Meta / Re: Why is account selling allowed? on: February 08, 2018, 04:48:07 PM
It's baffling that selling accounts on this forum is allowed, but we ban the selling of merit.  Can we please take a serious look into banning account trading?

the stickers just barely missed the mail truck's loading time today, they will certainly arrive tomorrow though. And as promised, will provide pictures then.

748  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Request] Somebody please make a physical Garlicoin AND paper wallet on: February 07, 2018, 05:17:04 PM
I'm always really happy to see new things being created rather than just consumed, but you really had me at 'pirate treasure'.

I'm auctioning off the first three bars created here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2887662.0

I don't really know that I can get the point across with pictures, but the texture in your hand is incredibly gratifying. I don't know how turning these into paperwallets with the hologram stickers will effect the hand feel, but I'd not be surprised in the slightest if a few people decided just to keep them for general handling. The day that I made these, I ended up keeping them in my hands for at least 8 hours.

I've also switched up my equipment a bit, mainly the vacuum pump I use to get the air bubbles out of the plaster when making the molds, but also additional finishing things. I'd imagine this will result it much smoother bars, but that may or may not be desirable so I'll be sure to adjust as I go. I'm also looking at laser engraving equipment so that I could engrave encrypted keypairs into things for people. My biggest issue with paper wallets is that they aren't flame resistant in the slightest. Silver should be pretty fire resistant, though when I reach that point I'll make sure for certain that there'd be no distortion to an engraved key if heated to ~1300 degrees from a house fire.

In addition, I'm pretty chemically inclined. I've got some acid distillation equipment that I use for making plating materials and various other useful lab materials. I've been playing around with the idea of a two part coin or medallion, the center in gold, the outer portion in silver, and then with the keypair section plated in rhodium. Of course I could mix it up with some exotic materials, but that'd require some additional research. I need a bit more equipment for my planned hydrogen torch for melting platinum group metals as well, but these are all things that are attainable. Of course I've got a handful of sapphires/emeralds and such laying around if something needs to get real blinggy. Maybe a 5 Kilogram Flavaflave Bitcoin medallion thats guaranteed to cause neck and back pain (kidding).

I've always really liked the concept of wearable private keys. Four fingered Charlie is the only one I've seen do it right though, and I'm not 100% certain I could replicate anything like that.
749  Other / Meta / Re: What is function moderator in this forum ? on: February 07, 2018, 02:51:33 PM
Yup, there is nothing wrong with either of those threads. Reporting them will result in moderators marking them as bad reports.
750  Other / Meta / Re: [t's useless, junk, and a shit one] on: February 06, 2018, 09:23:25 PM
I was reading a lot of replies on threads, most of the answers were standard.
Now, how can you classified or distinguish or what are the basis to categorize an answer, before you could say it's a junk one, yeah sometimes their answer is stupid but they have a point, someone replies with all their might with the ideas they have but gat deleted (some important line is there, but it was deleted because some inappropriate line is mixed up),  or a shit one??

Can anybody share their thoughts, ideas and knowledge about it?

Please don't be brief on your answers, please explain it on details on words that can be easily understand because if you used complicated phrases it might be get misinterprete.

I'll be reading them one by one.

Thank you.

Before I start listing my criteria, I will note that if I'm ever in question whether to delete something or not, I don't. If its not so obvious that I can't decide, I air on the side of leaving people's posts alone.

When deciding if I delete a post or not, the first thing I do is check if the post is on topic. The best post in the world about the socioeconomic effects of Bitcoin on developing countries will still be deleted in a thread where someone has asked about making paper wallets. I personally typically allow one string of consciousness away from the original topic. If the main topic is the creation of paper wallets, useful posts about things one level of abstraction away are fine, for example software/printers/security involved in making paper wallets. If we go from making paper wallets to your trip to the zoo, we've gone too far, and the zoo comment will be deleted. I then check if that post is just completely plagiarizing what has been said earlier in the thread. If you expand on what other have said, thats fine, but copying others isn't. If someone has already answered a question or given their input, if you add nothing new to the conversation, its spam.

As far as posts containing offensive language, insults, etc. If they are still on topic, and don't carry a huge risk of drawing the rest of the replies to the thread off topic, they are left alone. Back to the paper wallet example, if someone says, "fuck that, don't use that paper wallet software, the developer is an asshat, this other one is better"  its not a problem. If the main subject matter of your post is the insult, it'll probably be removed.

The last thing I'll mention is a normally foolproof test of whether something is spam. Ask yourself, can this post be responded to? If you are making a statement, and there is no way for someone to respond to what you have just said with additional information about the original posts' subject, then it is spam. Using my earlier example, "fuck that, don't use that paper wallet software, the developer is an asshat, this other one is better", people are then able to reply about the other suggested software, what issues exist with the one you are saying not to use, people can disagree/agree with you and add additional information that may help others decide, etc.
751  Other / Meta / Re: What is (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored) on: February 06, 2018, 03:17:42 PM
I saw a user getting merit points and in the post it was mentioned : What is (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)

Example:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=1206468

What does it mean ?

The post has been deleted. You've pointed out that three people have all exchanged merit within a 5 minute period, and then deleted their posts so that it wouldn't be as obvious.
752  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Auction] YouTube 1 of 1 colored paper on: February 06, 2018, 03:27:26 AM
Hmmm that triangle looks a little off to be the real thing...

I'll see if my youtube friend can confirm the legitimacy of this piece.
this is a family heirloom. there is no way that it is fake

Would you mind waiting while I call in my expert to take a look at it? He'll be able to confirm whether or not its a saddle.
753  Economy / Collectibles / [Auction - Finished] The first 3 .999 Silver Garlic Bread Loaves! on: February 05, 2018, 09:16:27 PM
Auction End Timer: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20180211T235959&p0=263&msg=Silver+Garlic+Bread+Loaf+Auction+End&font=cursive&csz=1

Hi everyone, as I mentioned in my thread requesting feedback for the project (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2881839.0)

I'm not really sure how to price these, so I'm just going to open these up for auction, and I'll use the data collected from the auction to determine pricing for any future pieces. Each piece will have a certain level of individuality to them, so if you see one you are in love with, there is no guarantee I'll be able to make an identical, so don't delay!

Auction rules So I'll be started these off at their silver spot price. Please bid in Bitcoin increments, however I will accept Garlic, BTC, LTC, ETH, or most other exchangeable alt coins at your converted bid rate after the auction has ended, if you have any questions, please ask. The minimum bid increment is 0.0005 BTC. This auction will run from time of posting until Sunday February 11th at 11:59:59PM US Eastern time. To winners in the US, these will ship free. If you are outside of the country, I will charge actual shipping cost (under $5). Ideally I'll have them shipped out to the winners on Monday, so I can get your feedback as soon as possible. Any bids within the last 10 minutes of the auction ending time will extend the auction by 10 minutes. EX: a bid at 11:58PM on the 11th will extend the end time to 12:08AM, a subsequent bid at 12:05 AM will extend the auction end time to 12:15 AM.

Since these loaves are in different styles and weights, please double check which you are bidding on. Loaves A, B, and C, will also corresponds to the number tamper proof hologram sticker they will receive (A will get number 001, B 002, C 003).  I will receive the tamper proof holograms on Friday the 9th, and will upload pictures then. These are just simple 0.75 inch circular tamperproof hologram stickers with the Garlic logo centered, and the number. Functional, but nothing fancy.

I have no problem with international bidders, but please make sure that you are aware of any laws or tarrifs that may apply on the importation of silver. I will declare them at silver spot value through for customs.

Please use this example bid format ( A @ 0.006 BTC )

Please double check these photo collections for details on each bar. Each is the shown weight in 999 Fine silver.

Bar A (81.6g) Starting bid 0.0060 BTC: https://imgur.com/a/OvFA6

Bar B (87.6g) Starting Bid 0.0065 BTC: https://imgur.com/a/JWMFn

Bar C (81.5g) Starting Bid 0.0060 BTC: https://imgur.com/a/wz91e

I'm more than happy to use escrow with any mutually agreeable escrow agent, however I do ask that you pay any associated fees. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask. After the auction has ended, I'll give these a final shine and send them on their way to the winners.

*Edit* The tamperproof hologram stickers have arrived.

754  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Requesting Feedback for New Silver Physical Garlic Bread Loaves on: February 05, 2018, 06:31:46 PM
For me i use 25mm holos for the private key size underneath.  Anything smaller you have font that is hard to read imo, but i have always used full private keys i guess with compressed you might be able to get away with smaller holos.

Hmm, interesting, thanks for the info. I'm looking at a couple of 20mm circles, but they are a tad large maybe. I can go larger with rectangles/ovals, but I don't know if having the entire bottom covered in a sticker would mess with the feel.

Yes... I would agree, that for the most part the larger holograms are to show off a nice design or the maker's name/logo on their hologram.
Also to add, would be the addition of windows on some makers holograms to have the 1st bits display, possibly warranting a need of a larger hologram.

Hmm, those would be second batch holograms if I decide its worth making fancy labels.

Either way, thanks to both of you  Grin

*Edit* I'm just going to pull the trigger with the simple 0.75 inch circular stickers. If they aren't optimal, I'll reevaluate and go from there. I feel like its better to just push forward and have mistakes happen in front of my eyes rather than hypothesize what would be best and take forever making a decision. Also, my day job is building bridges.
755  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Requesting Feedback for New Silver Physical Garlic Bread Loaves on: February 05, 2018, 05:19:32 PM
Salty great work....as others have stated i think "b" would be my pick as well for the look.  Good luck with your project going forward.

Thanks for the support. Everyone's feedback is helping me immensely. I have more or less decided on making a few of each type, but what types people have expressed interest with will certainly be taken into account. Since each bar is a little bit different anyway, that just means that when I go to sell them, I'll list what I have individually, so people can pick which they'd like themselves.

As for the holograms, I'm going with a simple hologram with just the Garlic logo and a number in the order I produce them on it. I'll worry about fancy holograms in the future if I move forward making a SaltySpitoon line of cast physical coins. I actually dislike holograms the most on metal because I think they look kind of cheap/tacky, however as far as functionality goes, they work great so that you can show off your collection without someone taking your keys undetected. I'm leaning towards a 0.5x0.5 inch square shape for the smallest footprint, but circles are a bit more forgiving for when you decide to place them, so maybe a 0.5 or 0.75 inch circle instead. Paper wallets don't take up a lot of space (I've got a few ~ the size of a pea) but every producer on the market uses 1 inch or larger circle holograms. If anyone has opened a few Cas coins or similar, do you have any idea why the need for the excessively large holograms? As far as I can tell its just about the aesthetics, but if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.

If I find an answer to that, I can order the holograms today, have them by the weekend, and go from there.

Can we get something next to it for scale?

Here you go, this is the collection of pics I took earlier that I was going to upload. Their size is just about identical to the 3D model that Hhampuz posted.

757  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Requesting Feedback for New Silver Physical Garlic Bread Loaves on: February 05, 2018, 01:52:02 AM
Nice, I missed it but what are the prices? Grin

I haven't decided on this yet. I'm probably going to auction off the first couple to try and get a feel for what the correct market price is for something like this. Seeing as each one is going to be slightly different, its going to be hard to set a standard price, but after I get some data, I can probably figure it out.

The bars are 81.59, 81.49, and 87.62 grams. I'm curious as to what caused the deviation in the 87.62g bar, but I'll figure it out next run. In addition, finishing work done on them also shaves off a bit of weight.
758  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Requesting Feedback for New Silver Physical Garlic Bread Loaves on: February 05, 2018, 01:15:49 AM
I'm in for 1 or 2 and always prefer a holo if possible.  I'll buy either way.

My vote is B

I personally think that B feels the best in my hand, but they are all pretty nice feeling. What I like about these, is that they aren't going in airtite containers. You can put your hands on them, toss them around, throw them in your pocket, fire them at someone breaking into your house, etc. If they get tarnished, polish them. You don't polish coins because they typically have some type of treatment done on them at the mint which you can wear away by cleaning them, these are a different story.

From what I've seen so far, I may be better off just making all types and letting people pick their favorites. Its pretty cool how really minor differences in how they are produced make dramatic differences in how they come out. I'll share all of that when I have time as well, for those interested. I'll probably get tamper proof stickers in case someone wants to put a wallet on them, however if people aren't hugely interested in fancy custom stickers, I'll just get some standard ones just so you know if your keys were compromised at show and tell.

Anyway, please keep sharing feedback. I really appreciate it, and it will likely shape the direction I go from here.
759  Economy / Collectibles / Requesting Feedback for New Silver Physical Garlic Bread Loaves on: February 05, 2018, 12:39:19 AM
*edit* From the last thread, there are some production details: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2838487.msg29417623#msg29417623

Ahoy, as many of you may have seen in the thread requesting that some people work on physical Garlic coins, I tried my hand at making silver garlic bread loaves to use for wallets.

After 3d modeling, setting the model in plaster, and then casting in silver, I've ended up with a couple of potential variations that I can produce. I'd like people's opinions on what they think is the best.

I'll have an imgur gallery link posted in a bit with more info *edit*(Here are the additional photos https://imgur.com/a/BvzNj), but the three variations are shown represented by the letters A, B, and C. A has a horizontal layered grain pattern. This is a result of the speed of the pour into the plaster mold. B and C have a bumpy grain pattern, however C is more highly finished after a longer duration inside of the rock tumbler + burnishing and polishing media. Its a little hard to tell from the pictures, but if you know about coins, C is smoother and has a more prooflike finish with less texturing, whereas B is a bit more burnished looking, with more texturing.

Any thoughts? Also, would people like custom made tamper proof stickers like what you'd find on a Cas/Lealana coin, or should I not worry about them, and just let people do whatever they'd like with the bars?

760  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Request] Somebody please make a physical Garlicoin AND paper wallet on: February 04, 2018, 06:14:28 PM
Nice job Salty.  I know how difficult and stressful what you're attempting to do can be.  Glad to see you're sticking with it!

Thanks for the kind words  Grin

Getting it perfect is stressful, I'm just seeing how it comes out along the way. If it works out well, great. If not, I'll just melt them back down and try again.

Anyway, here is the result after course buffing and a bit of detailing. Its not perfect, but its got a lot of work left to go, and the hand feel is actually really pleasant. The little bit of texturing makes it feel less like a die struck coin, and more pirate treasurish with the grainy context of bread working with it. Anyway, now I'm onto the fine buffing, then tumbling/burnishing and finally I'll see about rubbing them with a bit of renaissance wax.
