2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Could there be a line of similarity or difference between trading and investing? on: April 19, 2022, 10:35:18 PM
The only similarity I can see is that both requires some initial funds.

Investing is more or less limited to just one direction: a growing market. Buying the asset to sell it later at higher price.
However investing in PoS coins can be profitable within some small price drop as well (because due to staking you will probably own more units of the asset than you originally bought)

But trading offers two ways to make profit as margin trading allows you to "sell" stuff you don't even own (had bought) so you can make profit on price dropping asset as well.

I would say the main difference is that active trading requires constant oversight (either manual or using scripts, bots etc.) and changing/updating positions to maximize the profits (or cut loses) while investing is more about few buy actions and waiting for good sell opportunity.

sum up:
Investing => targeting only continuously growing assets (or assets you believe is going to grow in future )
Trading => asset itself is no so much important, it's more about watching it's market behavior ( price fluctuation, volume ) and your reactions.

A ta druhá platba (10 USDT) šla normálně přes ERC20.

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2FA on crypto wallet exists? on: April 18, 2022, 09:06:02 PM
2FA Authentication code has kept my email account safe several times in the past when I was still using a weak password, I always get a notification that someone is trying to access my Gmail account, they failed to get in because they need 2FA code access but thats not why I'm here, I'm just curious if there is any crypto wallet that has 2FA security? I've never seen one.

You can make use of multi-signature wallet (which requires more signatures to successfully process a transaction ).
Import second (or more) seed(s) to another device(s). Or hardware wallet(s) can be used as 2fa device(s) as well.

Yeah so each panel is laser Engraved, Im curious to know what anyone here would be interested in paying for a piece like this. I obviously have a figure in BTC I would want but just curious.

You can try to auction it ... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=73.0

How do I transfer money from GBP wallet to BTC wallet? I'm with CoinCorner.
What exactly you're struggling with?
They have a guide how to purchase BTC: https://www.coincorner.com/buy-bitcoin
Note: It's not a "transfer". You will be buying those BTC.

If you intend to hold BTC for a long term you'd better transfer (withdraw) those BTC to some non-custodial wallet (e.g. electrum).

9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Q] How does this scam work? on: February 12, 2022, 04:32:54 PM
They could be aiming for identity theft (asking your ID details claiming they need them to avoid providing multiple loans to same person ).

With stolen IDs there is vast amount of possible scenarios.
e.g. making their own loan using your identity with intention to never repay (while you'll be the one prosecuted by authorities).

Looks pretty.
I'm just curious why did you abandon your previous account? Such action always makes me feel a bit suspicious.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trying to squeeze some dollars into BTC per week on: February 12, 2022, 12:07:01 PM
In simple: That much you can afford to lose.
Imagine worst possible scenario could happen in future: A total collapse.

Say a major flaw is found in BTC (ETH) protocol. Exploited so much eventually making coins worthless (nobody is buying anymore and you are unable to cashout into fiat).
aka
your crypto holdings value turns into $0.

Put in only that much so you can say something like: "Hmm, that was an interesting experiment. Shame it failed but I can move on." should the above happen.

Sorry, I can't help any further.
My linux skills are at similar level as yours (I was able to establish remote access with my Pi rigs without issues so I was thinking it's that easy).
You'd better wait for skillful linuxer reply.
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo BTC Software/Image and Support thread on: February 10, 2022, 07:08:30 PM

Hello, I am quite new to Linux and I am sure that this has already been discussed, but how are most people here setting up remote monitoring? i.e. all I wish to do when I am not home is check in on the system make sure things are looking alright. I can login on my wifi through the IP just fine, however, I have not done much remoting in....no experience on LInux for sure!

I have tried TeamViewer for Ubuntu and it says add architecture....well I don't have any experience in.

I also see Remmina is already installed on Ubuntu, but I want to remotely login from a Windows PC, so I just need some direction. Any assistance would be most appreciated from a more well-versed individual on this thread - which I know are most if not all!!!

Most secure is via SSH. For windows there is client called "putty" ... note this is only command line access (you need to be familiar with linux commands).
But for full graphical access (like TeamViewer does) you have to use VNC (e.g. RealVNC) ... you have to install client onto your windows device, and server onto your linux device.

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: About Tron on: February 08, 2022, 10:28:00 PM
If we are to talk about old smart contract project that's on par with ETH in existence term it will be Tron, how can Tron still be value at few cents since released? What's holding this project back? Transaction fee is cheap and transaction speed is faster, I'm just surprised how matic, Polkadot and Avalanche that are new projects beats Tron TRC20..   is Justin Sun to be blame for its failure?
What failure about Tron? Look at the circulating supply man, its 100B and according to Coingecko its maximum supply is infinite, I don't know if this is updated. You cant compare it to coins like AVAX which supply is way low if the supply of Tron is same of matic or avax then its possible ranking in top 10 in MC.

On the other hand it's quite similar situation to ETH which also has no limit to max supply.
The difference is we need to "BURN" ETH to obtain GAS for covering the fees, but at TRON we are FREEZING the asset (TRX) which gives us the resources required for blockchain interaction).

NOTE: BURNING is an irreversible action (burned asset is removed from total supply) but FROZEN asset can be unfrozen to be used again (it's still counted in the total supply ).
I think the only hard-coded TRX BURN occurs when someone is applying for super-repre.

What I really like about TRON is that owning just coupe TRX (and freezing them) will provide you sufficient resources for couple free interactions with blockchain daily which is very useful for small amount transactions ( almost every day I'm buying breakfast worth of $2 with TRX  ... can't imagine doing this with ETH or BTC ).
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need Help!!! on: February 08, 2022, 09:37:30 PM
You may, just be aware of couple possible issues:

- not reaching min. required deposit amount (some exchanges may keep cumulate individual small deposits till you reach it ...  but some can just seize it )

- some exchanges may have sort of expiration time for deposit addies
(e.g at Kraken, I believe you can have only 5 active addies ... generating another one makes the oldest expired ... I'm not sure what happens if you send funds to such addy  )

- some exchanges may not allow receiving funds from gambling sources (e.g. coinbase) ... so participating in gambling sig. may lead to account suspension (if they are able to track down the source)

- there is no guarantee the address will be active forever (usually after some major security incident/update a brand new addies may be generated  )

It's always better to check exchange TOS to avoid possible complications or complete loss.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: There is no Hardware wallet thread on first page of Beginners & Help! on: February 08, 2022, 04:16:15 PM
I feel important to note that user will not be able to restore the seed itself.
Why not? ...

Because it's security risk IMO. Same why HW wallets won't show private keys directly and interacts only by signing messages.
Maybe skilled software engineer might be able to get the seed out. But there isn't any simple button "show my seed" for Average Joe to use.

...Hardware wallets need access to your seed to generate private keys, addresses, and sign transactions. That means these seed words (albeit in encrypted format) are stored somewhere inside the hardware wallet. ...
Agree but again, there isn't any simple button "show my seed". Or should not be.
I guess this is the know-how behind the closed source code (i mean the way how seed is actually used, stored, encrypted, decrypted, w/e ... )

...Moreover, some wallets can display your seed words in plain text if you request them to do that via "advanced options." ...
This I consider a major design flaw exactly because of the case you mentioned after.
Can you tell me which HW wallet allows that?
EDIT: @o_e_l_e_o: Thanks for reply

My assumption was based on:

Lost your Recovery phrase?
If you lost your Recovery phrase but still remember your PIN code, you can unlock your Ledger device with the PIN code and manage your crypto assets. However, it is highly recommended to quickly send all your crypto assets to temporary accounts and generate a new set of 24 words since the Recovery phrase is the only backup to your crypto assets.

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: There is no Hardware wallet thread on first page of Beginners & Help! on: February 08, 2022, 12:24:18 AM
I'm going to add few details to one of your statements:

- If seed lost, funds are compromised and only way to restore is Hardware + PIN
I feel important to note that user will not be able to restore the seed itself.
User will only gain access to funds (as long as he has access to working physical HW wallet and knows the pin).

In plain simple: Having a physical HW wallet + knowing it's PIN will not give access to seed.
Should later something happened with hardware (lost, stolen, malfunction...) or forgets the PIN  (or tries wrong pin many times) there is no way to retrieve funds.

So here I am new to bitcointalk ....
Welcome.

... and what benefits can a newbie gets from spending their time on this forum?
Well, mostly it's the knowledge.
Basically anything what happend since BTC bang has some sort of record here. First faucet, first purchase (famous 10k BTC pizzas), BTC hack in 2010...

Some users are making guidelines to help newbies with their initial struggles in cryptospace.

In Marketplace section you can purchase/sell goods or offer your own service.
You can also ask other users for support in case of doubt whether some service is legit (myself helped couple users to avoid being scammed by fishy online shops).

In Meta section you'll find rules and info related to forum.

If you're tech-savvy I'm sure you'll find interesting Development & Technical Discussion section.

... I also get to know that the BTC creator made this forum is this true or false?
EDIT: True False But he was active here, see his profile details: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3
Sorry for misleading info and thanks @Coin_trader for correcting me.

Used to be: ethereum.viabtc.com:3333
now it's: eth.viabtc.io:3333

Thanks for the reply, do you have a sample of what the -S should look like in linux?
Before coming here I read this thread in regards to my aforementioned question. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5187949.0
jstefanop gives an example of -S \\.\COM1 -S \\.\COM2 -S \\.\COM3 however that thread refers to a windows .bat file not a linux .sh.
...

See the second post of this topic:

...
for linux it will be /dev/ttyUSBx
...
Code:
./bfgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://us.litecoinpool.org:3333 -u jstefanop.1 -p 1,d=256 -S MLD:/dev/ttyUSB0 -S MLD:/dev/ttyUSB1 --set MLD@/dev/ttyUSB0:clock=600 --set MLD@/dev/ttyUSB1:clock=648
