The new wallet doesn't even connect any peers and it shows I have a zero balance. Fix?

Follow the instructions....

Quote
To participate in our public testing phase join the shadowtesting channel on slack.
You will be given more instructions on how to connect to testnet once on the channel.

How about pointing out where the instructions are?

Not sure where directions are but possibly here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Eh-85zUR5Zz4CWeyEDdiJJIUDTZfqj2Y0QoPezh4PJE/edit?pli=1

I found that link on slack.  I guess testers are supposed to join the slack group on the #shadowtesting channel.  To join slack, provide your e-mail at this link: https://shadowproject.herokuapp.com/ and you will be invited.

My wallet stops syncing at block # 419887.  I have been trying to have it sync for 2 days.

Try going to help, then debug window, then type command "rewindchain 1000" and press enter, and it will rewind the chain back 1000 blocks, hopefully past the troubled block, and fix the issue.  This worked for me in the past on a similar issue.  I think it happens if you get on a forked chain on your client.  Also you can try deleting peers.dat as you may be connecting to a bad node.

Are there any independent audits of the SDC anon tech?

Not exactly, but the code is open sourced.  There is a review ongoing by a German guy named Isidor Zeuner.  He is supposed to be mathematically qualified to review it.  But its taking a while, and he has asked for more documentation in order to finish the review.  The devs are working on more documentation, but they are very busy pressing forward on more important issues, so it may be a while before it is completed.  If there is anyone else who would like to undertake a peer-review I am sure it would be much welcomed.

Trace Mayer has shown a lot of interest in ShadowCash.  He mentions the ShadowCash whitepaper in this debitcoin interview here at 18:40 mark: https://youtu.be/50_NfitNTkI?t=18m38s

He said Shadow is an example of groundbreaking cryptography being applied to financial tech.  He says it might be where libertarians need to go as Bitcoin gets more regulated and mainstream.  I think he is spot on with his analysis.  If anybody doesn't know who this guy is, he has been recommending Bitcoin as an investment since it was 5 cents per Bitcoin.  He was a leading investor in Armory, BitPay, Kraken, Satoshi Dice, and a lot of other Bitcoin companies.  He also has the websites runtogold.com and howtovanish.com, and is very interested in anonymity and privacy.

ok no problem sorry if it distasteful to you but it's not some dirty secret to me how much shadow i hold if i held 10 k i would proudly announce it, never understood why people are so secretive here in crypto world about there holdings, i did well lucky me hope the same for every one else i wasn't rubbing it in or nothing.

if i wanted everybody to know my holdings I'd have invested in Bitcoin Wink LOL
you're a good chap dadon and would only advise discretion since you are a very large holder.
i think your a good chap also and im not here only for the money i do want to build my wife and children an empire, hope i succeed..but i am really passionate about freedom and liberty's jealous of yanks and your constitution and your guns laws i even watch alex jones on youtube most days haha  we should get shadow on there, he has huge audience.

I found many many years ago that Jones has ZERO interest in Solutions.
He only seeks to harp on about doom & gloom & sell miracle tea & water filters, lol.
Unbearable to listen to for me.

ShadowCash's marketplace could really help AGORISM:
The practise of keeping one's financial transactions in grey & black markets for ethical reasons.

My situation: I make soap.
Hand made, simple, beautiful, small scale & I sell it in town for a really great price, mostly as a community service.
This nation's government has recently decided that anyone making such things needs to register with the ministry of sanitation to have government agents come to my house, inspect where i make soap, turn my house into a commercial facility, take photos.... & some months later, MAYBE assign me a sanitation registration number so I can legally sell my 10 bars of soap per week...
Absolutely ridiculous...
There is a concerted effort, worldwide, to block out small scale artisan producers in order to favour large corporations who make crappy products & who sell them at the highest possible prices.
I have little interest in a new silk road, although I do support that.
But my major interest is in local communities organizing & getting back into production & barter.
ShadowMarketplace can be a great tool for empowering local trade & I will be selling my soap on day 1.
Maybe I'll even make a soap with a shadowcash logo for fun.

Smiley

There is a war on free market human activity.  Such activity will never be fully squashed by governments.  They cannot even keep drugs out of high security prisons.  Light bulbs are being phased out now all across the globe.  Everything is banned or illegal.  You need permission to do everything.  Well, with ShadowMarket you don't need permission to sell your soaps anymore. Usually lye is used in making soaps, but hey wait that is used for making drugs like speed too.  So anticipate bans, restrictions, and regulations on lye in the future if not already.  I heard of an old woman ordering a bunch of lye for soap making, and she got SWAT raided in America.  You may be better off ordering your lye off ShadowMarket.  If things continue the way they are going, these markets are going to explode in popularity.

I love the America that existed before it got usurped and before the constitution and declaration of independence got shredded.  Regardless of which geographic area you live, we should remember the ideals presented in America's founding, and their Declaration.  There are self-evident laws of nature that we all need to assert the same way the Founding Fathers of America did.  I love Shadow, because it exists within this same vein, built on the foundation of privacy and freedom, and supported by decentralization.

Interested in Shadow and want to try it out?  I am giving away free Shadows for anyone who downloads the wallet and posts a stealth address on shadowtalk: http://shadowtalk.org/topic/387/shadow-giveaway-thread

Experience the amazing html 5 wallet for yourself. Experience the Shadow send, and stealth addresses.  Also its good to try out ShadowChat the encrypted messenger found inside the wallet.  Also the in-wallet block explorer is another good feature.  You have to experience it to believe it. Once you see how impressive the wallet is, it will quell any doubts about whether this team can deliver the marketplace or not.  Check it out: http://aboutshadow.com/

whats up with craptsy deposits?  going on 14 hours waiting for my SDC to post.  Small test transaction worked.  Followed that with almost 2800 coins and they never posted.  The coins are there.  I see them on the blockchain.  craptsy wallet now says, "Our wallet is currently offline due to issues with the coin's blockchain."
I think child tweeted to them earlier to offer them help.

It's a head-scratcher.

Poloniex and Bittrex have both kept wallets online 99+% of the time
Cryptsy on the other hand (and Im guessing) is more like 75%

Shadower Pline was the unofficial "point man" for comms with Mullick (BCT member and Cryptsy admin). Perhaps he still is. Irregardless I suggest a Shadower State-side try and connect with him.

Richie (Bittrex) benefited from the rewindchain command which this community appraised him of. (he tweeted about it with great enthusiasm too btw)
As erok states above I tweeted Big Vern (@Cryptsy) once again to try and address this frustrating situation.

n.b the problem is with Cryptsy, not Shadow

Hey CH, I contacted mullick back several weeks ago about why their wallet was still in maintenance.  I never received a reply until today.  He says that the locking issue is still happening, and he has taken the wallet offline until it is fixed. So I guess he is expecting Shadow devs to provide a fix now. A while ago on slack, dasource mentioned he was testing a fix for the linux daemon hanging issues that would resolve this.  Not sure if that ever succeeded.

It is indeed a head scratcher as to why Bittrex and Poloniex wallets seem to work 99% of the time and if there is an issue it is fixed quickly.  Cryptsy wallet is much less reliable, and Cryptsy and mullick have been notoriously slow at responding, locking up people's funds for weeks or months, and ignoring/not answering inquiries.  I have had my tickets ignored there in the past, and was banned from their chat box for complaining about lost funds that were not credited for over a week. Admins and others at Cryptsy were also falsely telling people that ShadowCash was broken and needs a dev to fix it, which is really misleading considering the wallet is working fine on other exchanges.  This turned off a lot of investors in the early days, and possibly was a big reason the price was so low, for so long.  If anybody wants to contact mullick, he is the guy that is in charge of fixing cryptsy wallets, and you can PM him here on bitcointalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=99433

It would be nice to have the market at cryptsy working properly, but until that happens I think it is wise to avoid there and support Poloniex and Bittrex who have treated us much better.

i dont understand this shows i have 680 staking? and 14sdc that i can spend how do i make those 14 go into the other 680 that is staking? http://prntscr.com/6r0rcg

This is normal. You usually will only have a portion of your coins staking at any time.  It has something to do with how the POS system works.  I am not entirely sure why or how it works, still wondering that myself.  But they announced they will updating to POS v2 recently. I think it is based on blackcoin's system if I am not mistaken.

Is 1.3.1.0 the current wallet? I am currently stuck at 96% syncing.

Yes that is the current version.  I had a problem syncing before a while back. I did the command rewindchain to fix it.  Just go to help then debug window, and click console tab, then type "rewindchain 1000" and press enter.  It will rewind the blockchain back 1000 blocks. Hopefully this will fix it as it begins to download the chain again.  If not you can also try that again but also restart wallet and delete the peers.dat file.  If not hopefully somebody else can help.

Today marks the start of a multi-channel marketing approach set up to create more awareness for The Shadow Project.
With this we hope to attract and inform even more people about Shadow, and to expand and strengthen the community and project further still.

This will be greater in scope than previous efforts to publicize the project and in particular we're hoping to start reaching those in the more general public who might also be interested in what we're doing. The campaign is set up and managed by community members, with the input of Shadow developers. So with that in mind we're pleased to announce that today officially marks the start of a publicity campaign we have all been working very hard on!

Yeah yeah, "Project Shadow" FTW.  Lovin it.  Nice work guys.

We don't even have competition that's worth worrying about.

Um what? Need i really point out the elephant in the room? Monero...

I mean don't get me wrong, i don't care which wins because i own both. I'm just saying.

I believe Shadow is the tortoise and Monero is the hare in this instance.  Time will tell.

Interested in Shadow, and want to try it out?  Download the wallet, create a stealth address and post it on shadowtalk thread here: http://shadowtalk.org/topic/340/100-sdc-giveaway

Then I will send you 15 Shadow (aka SDT) to test out the system.  Please don't post any address in this thread, because bitcointalk bans that type of thing.

CH is cool.  I don't like the way cryptophile attacked him.  He is trying to do the best for Shadow. Sometimes he took things a little far in the past in other's threads, but meh.  It actually turned into comedy gold many times, with others eventually laughing about it and having a good time.  Lately I think he has reigned himself in properly and doing a great job. His posts in this thread seemed fine to me.  He helps bring a sense of community here.  Also it seems like he is being a self critic, and trying to do the best for Shadow, which is shown by his willingness to delete his posts and appeal to the community for approval.  He has my approval. We all have to find the right balance.  CH is one very enthusiastic node in the ShadowProject decentralized community, and as a fellow node, I appreciate that. But anyways just forget about that, blazin604 is actually right who gives a shit in the end.  CH just ignore the haters, and don't make a big deal about it, they will fade away.

BTCJam loan to be invested in SDC and help the developers:

https://btcjam.com/listings/39456-shadow-coin---decentralized-encrypted-online-&-mobile-marketplace

Please contribute if you can

This kind of seems like a scam.  I would beware donating anything until this is verified by the development team.
