101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Split BFL thread? on: January 24, 2013, 09:38:15 PM
The only people the trolling is good for is those who like setting stuff on fire— not because the stuff is good or bad— but just because they want to watch the world burn.
Actually there is one more class for whom trolling is good: Bitcoin sharks that prey on meek or emotional trolls. Sharks are very polite to trolls, learn about how to herd them and learn how to market to them. Then they just rip their faces off (financially speaking). Either in one single rip (like Pirate@40) or in a gentle, but close to the bone, shave (like Meni Rosenfeld).

With this regard this forum is no different than the majority of financial and investment forums. In fact I always thought that this was always the purpose of the free-speech policy of the forum: a steady supply of people who will willingly take the losing side of the trade.

Its just business, nothing personal.
Free speech,  yes... (although this isn't a government run forum, so free speech laws don't apply)

Free inane blather? Have SOOOO had enough by now...

BFL has a bad reputation (made by them self!) and that's a magnet for trolls. They have to live with that!
To hell with BFL—  the gibbering insults, off-topic ranting, and random inanity are harmful and embarrassing to our whole community no matter who they're directed at or who they're coming from. <...snip...>

103  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-E.com exchange Bitcoin, Litecoin, Namecoin <-> USD\BTC (fee 0.2%) on: January 23, 2013, 03:39:12 PM
BTC withdrawal should be free of charge (like it is at MtGox)
Gox also charges a much higher trade fee too... I'm good with the lower trading fee, and paying the withdrawl fee...

The current forum culture can still be shaped but no forum can survive the inevitable "Eternal September" that makes every forum worthless.

The quiet, sane comments get shouted down and these users inevitably leave.
I remember when that happened... it was like someone flipped a light switch and all of a sudden, all hell was breaking loose...

The new people didn't have a clue and didn't want one. The kind of people that came through the floodgates ruining our culture made me so glad I had NEVER got involved with AOL...

We tried our best, but it became quickly clear, that this was going to be a losing battle... a great many of us moved to private invitation-only places on the net where we could still associate with each other in peace.

It was a great shame we had to do that, but what can ya do?

It changed the internet culture too, where now the internet is treated as if it is just one big playground no consequences and you can be as much of a loser as you want to be without getting punched in the face.

Only those of us who were around before The September That Never Ended, will have any kind of real appreciation over what was lost when AOL ruined the net...

The image is of poor contrast and partially out of focus. (Possible Super Macro Mode settings)

A simple color filter shows two dark lines of lettering. Not very legible. Also the filter makes the dust and lint all the more apparent. Seems like this board has been in use for a few days in a non-clean environment.

P.S. Light source seems to be coming from the top left. Likely the poor lighting is playing a role in the lettering not being apparent along the bottom.
Good enuf. I can just make out the lower portion of the L and the O in the middle of AVALON,  in the very corner of the image. Mystery solved as far as I'm concerned. Smiley

...

well... with that done, I'm bored again... what's next?

Hey, genius... did you notice, that even flipped, you should still see upside down text on the chip as there isn't enough free space on the right side up chips to account for all the empty space shown on the upside down chip?
Laser engraving on chip is best viewed under certain angle.  Especially if you make foto with flash. I think, photoflash blended text with chip background.
Possibly, but that doesn't look like an angle that would be an issue on...

Plus, it doesn't look flash taken at all, but done under ambient lighting. Some spots are just too dark with smooth transitions from brighter to dimmer areas.

I know that can be done with very careful flash setups, but even then, the angle just still looks off for having the printing being washed out by glare.

I'm not suggesting there is something shady with the pic. Just since someone else mentioned it, and another guy was being insulting back, calling the first poster a name, and claiming it was because the chip itself was mounted in an inverted rotation, which was why it looked like there was no printing on it, I just felt like responding in kind with my own observation. Smiley

Silly question guys...Where is the logo on the left bottom chip?
Someone grab this guys avatar and post fail all over it. He's 7 tenths of the way there already....

Did you notice that the bottom row is "flipped", genius? (as in upside down)

Found another bug - the site is not allowing me to leave feedback at present (the list of available users is blank).
I've had this same issue for about a month now.

Only users with a rating greater than 3 can rate others.

Is your personal rating 4 or above?  It appears that I will have to submit documents in order to get my rating above 3 so if you have not submitted docs you cannot rate others.
Yes it is. When I originally notified them I couldn't rate anymore, I had asked that they make that requirement based on info submitted, not what my rating is now with my open loan, and they replied that it should have been 4 and above, not 5 and above like it was, so they changed it to "above 3" instead of "above 4", and I still can't rate, even tho my current rating with my open loan, is 4.

This isn't a rating thing, this is a bug.

Also, do we have to get new deposit addresses? The welcome messages (announcements) when we log in didn't say that at all. It wasn't until someone pointed me at this thread that I knew what was going on and what the announcements were referring to. (I'm not concerned about the few deposits I made to my old addys... total, they only amounted to a few IXC, so, no big deal)
All your old addresses still work. Thus those "auto" deposits you might have running are all credited correctly.

The initial thought was to put in a new wallet due to the security breach, but looking through the system files/logs we believe the wallets have not been touched, that unfortunately only become after we had reset the addresses. I'll be uploading the "old" addresses to those of you who haven't regenerated them yet  in the coming days.
Thnxy... and I just got a deposit notification of one of the IXC deposits in question, so I can confirm that much is working.

Don't even think about changing the site... if people find it confusing, it says more about their own intelligence than it does about the site.

All the info I would need without a bunch of eye candy prettying up a pig like a few other sites I could name.

(reversible USD and EUR pairs would be nice tho Smiley )

Most likely same attack vector as the incident with Vircurex.
What incident is this? I haven't heard of it.

5 seconds?

Come on, don't be one of 'those sites'...

All of their constantly updating ads just irritate me to no end.

Tossing up a new ad on page load is plenty, and just leave it there.

Is there any way to view new listings only? Like a way to sort by date listed, or a feed? I'd like to be able to see what's new, rather than wade through all the listings I've seen before.
Click on the column headers... you can sort by rating, how many days left before it expires, etc.

I have sorted by days left to see what was most recent when I had a little coin to lend.

They must be associated with BTC-e somehow otherwise why still host RUC trading. They've dropped other coins before trading has gotten this low.
The other discontinued coin aren't publicly listed anymore also, but if you guess the pair on the url, you can still bring up those old tickers.

A trade still happens from time to time on them too.

118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: December 20, 2012, 04:18:03 PM
(...), is there any technical reason why it couldn't work with scrypt-based coin too? I'd love to find something to MM with LTC, just for the hell of it. Even if it was only LQC (now dead) that I was merge mining it with.
LTC have different hashing protocol than BTC and other MM coins, it can not be merged.
I'm not talking about merging BTC-style hashing with scrypt-style hashing... it is common knowledge they are incompatible.

I'm talking about merge-mining scrypt with scrypt.

119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: December 20, 2012, 02:50:22 PM
All the merged mined coins need updating, so it makes sense to first update the merged mining patch to work with the latest bitcoin before worrying about the details that make the various merged mined coins different from each other.

Basically one can view the merged mined coins as being made by applying two patches to bitcoin, one being the merged mining patch the other being a patch that makes it into a specific coin variant. A patch that changes the name, the ports, the irc channel, the dns bootstrap, the hard coded bootstrap nodes, the checkpoints, the difficulty and reward details, the details of how to form an address from a key, to make the different-looking addresses some coins like to use, and the handshake four bytes that keep the different coins from accidentally crosstalking with each other.
If someone is going to tinker with the MM patch/code, I have a somewhat off-topic question about it, like, is there any technical reason why it couldn't work with scrypt-based coin too? I'd love to find something to MM with LTC, just for the hell of it. Even if it was only LQC (now dead) that I was merge mining it with.

Off the current topic I know, but if someone is already going to be tinkering with it, maybe find out the feasability of it while someone is already poking around?
