381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: September 21, 2017, 02:12:17 PM
So, snapshot date is September 30? Or not later than?

As stated a few posts back, the snapshot will occur at SPR block 1,644,100.  Right now we're at 1,630,781.

M
I know. When this block will be?
If generating one block in minute, then 30 Sept.

You can't predict when it will be.  It looks to me that blocks are being found greater than one block a minute.  If that continues, it'll be sooner than Sept 30th.  If it slows down, it'll be later.

382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: September 21, 2017, 12:27:50 PM
From Bitmain - www.bitmain.com

It doesn't make sense for me to buy any mining hardware from Amazon because they have a big markup in their prices.

I pre-ordered the first batch Antminer D3 back in July 2017.

It was sent from Bitmain in September 16 and I received it via Fedex in September 20.
Very quick delivery.

It doesn't make sense if you knew about the initial sale AND you could actually get through the website.  For the rest of us...

I think i got the first defective unit

My d3 runs for about an hour, when this error come up:

Sep 20 21:03:33 (none) local0.err cgminer[374]: read_temp_func: can't read all sensor's temperature, close PIC and need reboot!!!

I reconnected all cables. But this changed nothing. Error comes up and blocks the machine. Does anybody have a solution for that?

Thanks in advance

The same with me for two D3. Here's the red LED and high fan speeds. Then the D3 itself restarts and again mining. What with this?

Sounds like batch 1 defects.

I hope for your sake that's all the worse it gets.

Thanks for the info!!

I read this as snapshot in < 10 days, assuming a block a minute, which right now appears to be a low estimate.  Correct?

Should we be holding out coins in our wallet, or at an exchange?  Since you didn't mention an exchange, I'm assuming the former.

M

Hey @everyone we are targeting Spreadcoin block 1,644,100 as the snapshot date. This is subject to exchange confirmation, so it is subject to change. As you can tell, we could do with a bit more time to get confirmations from third parties, but we understand the frustrations some people have to just wanting to get on.

The snapshot process itself will happen a day or two after this block height to give the blockchain time to settle and blocks to confirm.

The launch date will follow soon after, but we haven't finalised a date for that yet. We will start mining for around 4 days which gives us time to generate the pre-mine coins we will need based on the snapshot data. We'll do some reconciliations with the exchange.

During the mining process, we'll be earning rewards, which we'll probably burn.

We won't be giving out dates on the actual launch until:

1. We have a pool up and running (we have a pool operator launching with us)
2. The wallets are compiled and ready
3. Github is up with the latest source
4. The budget proposals website is up (it is actually up just needs to run off Heliumd)
5. We have the green light from the exchange that we've agreed on the reconciliation of accounts)

Once the exchange is 100% happy, we'll give more details.

If anyone has technical skills and wants to run the snapshot script as a test, please feel free.

@ mdude   do you think ramp and ramp down is punishing you?

or do you just dislike kano?

or is it another reason  for saying ramp up ramp down is a punishment.

Neither #1 nor #2.  Why would you think such?

First of all I still don't have any mining hardware.  3 weeks since I ordered from Canaan and they still haven't provided a way to pay.  I'm beginning to wonder if they are any better than Bitmain.  At least Bitmain tells you when it'll be shipped and you know you are "pre-ordering".

Second, I'm certainly not a pool hopper.  Even if I had hardware, I still wouldn't hop!

Third, my understanding was the reason these fancy payment systems were devised was to prevent pool hoppers from abusing pools.  If it doesn't do that, what's the point?  It certainly seems to only cause confusion.  Furthermore, there wouldn't be any "dust" from being those who come and go, since currently there are no "dust" payments.  (Granted, I have spent a little more than zero time, and not much more than that, trying to understand PPLNS ... the "why" was more important to me, and clearly I got that wrong.)

No it doesn't penalise pool hoppers.

Looking at it at the micro level, a share is rewarded the same way no matter if you hop or not.
When you mine, after you submit a share, has no effect on each share you submit.

The 'ramp up' and 'ramp down' is just the side effect of delaying rewarding shares to reduce variance.
It works exactly the same for long term miners as it does for hoppers.

Since later shares found have no effect on how a single share is rewarded, there is no penalty.

Thanks for the education.  I learned something!

Maybe some CK solos will get impatient waiting for a block now and jump in the pool with us?   Cheesy

The whole point of the PPLNS here is to penalize pool hoppers.

M

You are not penalized for pool hopping with PPLNS.  You will get paid for every share you submit.  The ramp up and the trail off before you start mining and after you stop mining will take time.  But that is different from being penalized.

That's being penalized in my book. Smiley

I see canaan is getting organized with an authorized reseller. I am guessing they are buying the pallets and then selling singles.
Go to canaan's home page for the straight news and links.
Not going to put links in here as too many folks put up links that are scams, better you go to canaan's website your self and follow the info there.

Yes.  The reseller is constantly sold out too.

20 days later I still haven't been able to pay for my orders at Canaan.

Quite the deal they have going on here.  Sad

M

When I got my A741 it took about a month. They were very slow in getting back to me about providing a bitcoin payment address.
I even used google translate to send them a message in simplified Chinese to get their attention.
I think it amused them. I got more messages from them after trying that stunt.

That's funny.

What's not funny is the domestic reseller just raised the price on the 741s by $100.  Despite still being out of stock.

I am not happy with that number $1.60/h. I don't know what pool you are using; you might need to look for an alternative. I heard selling your hashing power on nicehash is a good alternative if prohashing is not working fine.
Thanks for sharing though.
sorry that was a round up and prohashing stats updated -  its making ~$3 an hour

~71 minutes uptime ~$3.24 earned

I'm curious why you're using prohashing?  They have a 4.99% fee, from what I see.  Nicehash is 4% under a certain cutoff, and 3% under a higher cutoff.  I'd think you'd be able to make the higher cutoff with a D3 right now.

Unless you aren't looking to be paid in BTC, of course.

Is this a new phenomenon?  Since when do USA residents get charged duties on items from China?

M

uhhh... pretty much every country does.

I was never asked for the S1s I ordered from Bitmain years ago.  Seemed like it was always the other countries that had those absurd tax policies.

FYI: UPS in USA had my D3 flagged as some exotic piece of scientific computer equipment .... about $96 bucks duties

This is when they called about a Soc Sec Number I asked price

I informed them that I should be (like other equip) be called a manufactured peripheral accessory to computer equipment as a classification

and offered to show here my miners with a laptop front end as a peripheral computer hardware

they dropped the price to $25 on the change in their 'what it is' number

just a heads up

Well, the D3 is still available for purchase. The site is not crashing any more and everybody can get a hold of one. This is not good news for all those folks that bought one trying to resell it.
Also not good news for us, who bought it. I hope they are not going to release a D3+ soon because that would mean the D3 units will be worth nothing. My guess is people will start reselling them at a discount now.

But, I would really be interested in some confirmations about the real power usage and hash rate from the D3s in the first batch.

The first batch is always risky.  Bitmain doesn't have the greatest reputation with the first batch of anything.

On the other hand, it may be perfect.

396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: September 18, 2017, 03:38:53 AM
One can't make Helium coins out of thin air.  For there to be an even one to one swap, the Helium coins have to already exist.  That means the project has to be far enough along and mined enough to provide the equivalent amount of Helium coins as exist in the snapshot.

Right?

Re the spread price drop, that could also be because of the overall drop in cryptocoin price, as everything still follows BTC, and BTC got hit hard with China's ICO ban.

Still it would go a long way for the dev to post something here.

My statement was crafted very carefully.
It is not rude at all if you read the full statement.  Your statement  does show the problem  on internet blogs which is not enough people read the posts fully.
So if the person did not read the full statement that I took time to write very carefully they lose out on life.  If they read it all they would see I tried to be helpful I took the time to helpful and used a tried and true technique of shock value to get their attention  so they would learn something.

If I failed  so be it at least I tried to help.  Plus  I did not use a dummy account to hide behind like you did.

Part of the problem is today's school system is intentionally designed to create non thinking individuals who experience challenges comprehending anything more than "show up at 8:30, and do what you're told".

It's not their fault.

why is bitmain selling D3s in several batches?
Are they trying to get rid before...before what?

Before their competitors get their X11 miners out...

I think this is a real buy opportunity, and still we're mining with profit!

Let's roll some BLOCKS now  Grin Grin Grin

Seems a bit too coincidental that canaan will start shipping orders from 8/31 after the huge difficulty increase.  And BTC is worth $1000 less than it was when orders were placed.

But I haven't paid for my orders yet (since they haven't given me a way to pay)...

I've asked Canaan about lead time from order/wire payment to shipping for the pallets and didn't even get an answer, so I'm not sure they're actually available at the moment.

I really suspect they oversold their stock.  They still haven't provided me with a way to pay for my orders from 8/31.
