Where do I find changes.txt? Looked at beginning of this post but can't find.

It's in the download zip.  See my sig.

Beeping when internet goes down..

HOW CAN I MAKE IT STOP.. Sad

i have unchecked the box in the miner config tab... but when the internet has an outage all the miners start beeping..

of course when the internet comes back online, they dont stop until i get up and unplug them and restart them Sad

seriously..

this is becoming so annoying to be woken up at 3am because the internet has some update or something and has gone offline for a few minutes..

did i mention that they are pretty freaking loud too.. Sad

Annoying isn't it?  I don't think there's any fix short of a hard fix ... ie destroy the speaker, cut the wire, or glue it closed.  Sometimes they beep for reason at all as well.

Is there any place that shows difference in versions? In particular difference between 3.4 and 3.5.

Check the changes.txt.

OK terrific app. I am looking for one thing based on update notes, mass reboot I think it said? I just started using v3.5

How do I implement either the Ant S3(+) to reboot every 12-24 hours automatically either through this program, or internally.

I am planning a vacation, and want to make sure they reboot daily or twice a day, because I'm unable to monitor them when not at home that I know of at least (That I am aware of, but that's is another option, I would like if it is available).

If I can make this happen, to automatically reboot, I will happily make a donation to the apps maker M

I can not get the automated emails to work either for some reason. Seems simple enough but I just do not get the email.

And this also constantly shows up yet they do not actually reboot. I assume this shows up because I have "Don't reboot more than every" 240 Seconds. (When there is an error )

Hello, I've had enough requests from people for scheduled reboots that I intend to add it in the next version.  Stay tuned.

As for automated emails ... it doesn't work with all ISPs.  I know it works with gmail, and last I checked, it does not work with verizon.  I don't know about others.

right but what is command it runs? how do you enter the password from the monitor

I have used ssh root@ipaddress reboot

but have to enter the password first

What I do not understand is how to get the password in without manually typing it...

I'm not sure how you could script it from a batch file.

No that wouldnt work.. Basically what I want to do is take the script/command line that runs from the monitor, put it into a batch file so I can schedule the reboot. I need this to be an automated process.

What is the command the monitors runs when you right click and reboot?

It logs in ... and enters "reboot".

I use task manager in windows to change what pool is specified on my mining proxy using a batch file. I just updated all my Ants to the latest firmware (Oct 24th) i think it is...

Now everytime it switches i have to reboot all my ants before it will start submitting shares again. Apparently this is an issue with the new version of CGMiner...

So I figure I could remedy the problem by writing a batch script that reboots the miners right after switching pools.

I am using Windows 7. I notice the monitor uses SSH to reboot the ants. what ssh program is used and what is the command line. The program I downloaded doesnt seem to have a password option so I cannot automate the reboots.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello, it doesn't use a program.  Putty is what a lot of people with Windows use.  Rebooting is simple.  Just login and enter "reboot".

M's Ant Monitor can reboot ants that get low or high hash alerts.  Would that work for you?

1149  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [13000 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: November 04, 2014, 08:12:21 PM
There are a few issues with this system though, specifically as it comes to "stale" work.  If somebody has a share being paid in the current coinbase, and a new piece of work comes out where their work has been pushed off the payment list, they could purposely remain mining the old work (as long as the block itself isn't stale).  While this can be prevented by making it so their new submissions are considered stale as far as the pool is concerned, they would still get their reward if they solved a block.
No different than if they were solo mining and claimed the full 25 BTC...
As long as you don't credit stale shares (from the pool's perspective), nobody is hurt. Smiley

Ah, good point.  They would be gambling on solving a block before the network does, and if they're going to make that gamble they might as well just mine an entire block for themselves.  Time change+a few late nights must be taking their toll on my early morning thinking skills.

In the rest of this post, I will be making reference to "super shares".  This is a term for grouping up multiple share submissions at a lower difficulty into a single share that is "big enough" to be put into the list of payments in the next block.

Building off my earlier post, the "5000 super shares" list of users that would get paid on the next block solve is flexible in that it could be altered to be a specific multiple of difficulty, just like PPLNS allows N to be changed to either increase or decrease the window being used.  By lumping share credit into "super shares", you can define a super share as any "difficulty sum".  Miners would continue to work at smaller difficulties like they always have in pooled mining.  Upon reaching the "super share" threshold, they enter the list of addresses to be paid the next time the block updates, and push off the oldest address in that list.

My earlier example of 5000 super shares at 8m diff each would be equivalent to PPLNS where 'N' = network difficulty.  If it was modified to the current pool setting, it would be closer to 32m diff per "super share", which would be 'N' = 4x network difficulty.

EDIT:  Just to clarify, "5000" is just an example where the minimum payment a user would receive is 0.005.  This wouldn't actually create a huge coinbase tx (in terms of data size).  There would not actually be 5000 addresses being paid in the coinbase.  Very fast users would be have multiple super shares in the list.  The fastest user on BTC Guild at this time would be 450-500 of the 5000 super shares paid in each block.

If you can figure out how to do this in a manner that is TNO (trust no one), then I think you'll be on to something.  Otherwise, who's to prevent a pool op from putting whatever supershares he wants on the share chain?

One of the great things about p2pool is the TNO principle.  Everything everyone does can be, and is verified on the share chain.  The chain itself contains the payout data, and you get on it by submitting a big enough share.

Your idea is similar to the one I had.  My suggestion was to have lower the share size significantly so that small miners can get on.  That means one of the basic principles of p2pool has to change: work has to stop restarting every time a share is added to the chain.  Instead, like conventional pools, work restarts when a block is found on the BTC chain.  At that point all the nodes use a predetermined algorithm to gather up all the shares since the last block, bundle them together into a "payout" share, and add it to the payout chain.  (That means two chains.)  That way the TNO principle still applies ... every node can independently verify both chains.  Worker data (coinbase?) is based upon the data in the payout chain, so when a block share is submitted, payout happens properly.  Note this also means the current round doesn't count towards payout.

There may be something I'm overlooking here, but that's the basic principle.

Here's version 3.5.  It fixes the problem with S2s no longer working with the latest firmware.  I assume it'll continue to work if you didn't upgrade your firmware, but I don't know that for sure.

Also, I would guess setting it to "S2" will work just fine with S4s.

i recently bought an s3.....I would like to find out exactly what batch it is from....and if it is an s3+.  What detailed steps can anyone provide me to find this information out?

thanks in advance.

If it's underperforming, it's probably batch 1.

If it says "S3+" on it, then it's a S3+.

Otherwise, I'm not sure there's a way to find out.

BTC Guild shutting down: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=49417.msg9395478#msg9395478

Lets get ready to welcome some new p2pool miners Smiley

Heh - I am potentially one of them, despite the on/off nature of the Guild's announcement.

I was hoping to find some words-of-one-syl tutorials for setting up a p2pool account from scratch and using Bitmain's Antminer (S1, S2, S3) LuCI interface with it. I've found tantalizing hints that it can be done but no obvious tutorials. I hope they are not right under my nose, but if so I'm just not seeing them.

Do such tutorials exist (something like Dogie's or rubicite's tutorials for centralized pool users), and if so, can anyone point me to them?

Thanks!

On windows in linux?

On windows it's pretty easy.  Download the p2pool executable, and fire it up with your payout address.

Then point each of your Ants to that address ... stratum+tcp://internal.address.in.numeric.format:9332

If running locally, the usernames don't matter.  To set the difficulty, suffix them with a +number ... for S1s and S3s, I'd use +518.  For S2 I'd use +1024.  But it'll run just fine w/o the +difficulty as well.

You can also install python and the required modules for p2pool and run the latest git.

On linux it's a little more complicated, but roughly the same idea.

Is there a way to plot this to a db and chart hash rate over time? It could be a flat file/nosql db but would be handy to view the stats historically.

Not currently.  My pool monitor has that, just not by worker.

M
Since this is basically complete in functionality, could I put in a feature request for that?

Actually I mis-spoke.  My pool monitor does have worker level logging, in an Access db.

Just a heads up - the new S2 firmware is out, Antmonitor works with it if you change the setting from S2 to S3  Wink

Thanks.  I'll have to update my S2 and get it working.

Anyway to add the S4 to work with this?

If past history is any indicator, it should work as an S2.

If someone donates me an S4, I'll be happy to add native support.  Otherwise it'll likely be a while...

Downloaded v3.4. Working great now. Thanks!

Thanks for pointing that out.  It's been wrong for quite some time now. Sad

12GB should be enough, I'm using 16GB merge mining 8 coins & it's a bit overkill tbh. Mining is also how I learned to use Xubuntu - it's an excellent & fun way to do it eh?  Smiley
It's a great learning curve.
I put Ubuntu Server on it, but I'm struggling with the strict text interface, so I broke down and put ubuntu-desktop on for now - until I am more confident.
I'm just doing install after install of everything from the raid0 setup, bare minimum server install, updates and everything needed for the p2pool server and merge coins.
Get used to it, get comfortable, break it, fix it, break it, fix it, rinse and repeat. I'll be ready to go live with it, perhaps, in a day or so.
Any and all advice welcome.
Cheers.

Check out webmin.  Makes managing a text based linux server _so_ much easier.

M
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take a look. Though, my goal is to become proficient with the command line, like the matrix - think in code  Wink

Smiley I don't have time for that any more..

Wouldn't mind a block or two though......... Tongue

A what?  You mean 15-20million share difficulty isn't good enough?
