1268  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Has any miner ever been suspected of running a grow-op? on: December 08, 2012, 02:24:07 PM
Smart meters are not common in Quebec... yet!

They plan to replace all meters for 2018 but it's possible to opt-out.

Someone here is going around sabotaging the new meters.

That sucks.

Their not cheap...
1269  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Has any miner ever been suspected of running a grow-op? on: December 07, 2012, 08:07:56 PM
Most of the serious grower in my area steal electricity thus bypassing the meter.  Shocked

The new smart meters... New to me anyway make it a lot easier to find out where people are stealing electricity.

You can have a rather decent sized grow using only about 5-8kw including lights/cooling...

Generators are pretty costly to run with todays gas prices.

Natural gas would be the only way to go Smiley
1270  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Has any miner ever been suspected of running a grow-op? on: December 07, 2012, 07:46:15 PM
That would be a shitload cheaper than using batteries and inverters and battery chargers, etc.

All you need to do is make sure the power level is consistent.

You build a switch box with relays.
1271  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: my GT 555m only gives 12 M/hashes/s on: December 07, 2012, 06:30:36 PM
That's a Nvidia card. They won't do much for you.
1272  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Has any miner ever been suspected of running a grow-op? on: December 07, 2012, 06:24:26 PM
Or run 2 bloom rooms off of 1 set of ballasts Smiley It's easy to split 1 big room in half.
1273  Other / Off-topic / Re: WTF coinurl on: December 07, 2012, 06:00:57 PM
Should the fee's not somehow be implemented in to what he pays out?

kinda shitty thing to do IMO.
1274  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Has any miner ever been suspected of running a grow-op? on: December 07, 2012, 05:21:54 PM
The new Smart meters give the power company a very accurate reading of how you use your power.

Marijuana grows you will see massive spikes every 18 to 12hrs as your lights go on and off.. Mining operation would be a constant use of power.

Unless the grower is rather large and using a flip/flop style grow with 1 set of ballasts running 2 rooms, having the ballasts running 24/7
1275  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anyone do metal detecting? on: December 07, 2012, 04:01:51 PM
Buddy of mines dad does it all the time.. We live all around beaches here.

He found a rather valuable wedding ring and received a $5000 reward for returning it to the owner.

Dudes old and spends a lot of his time doing it.

Kettle Point Ontario is a nice place for doing this type of thing Smiley
1276  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Development Status [Batch #1] on: December 07, 2012, 03:45:08 PM
The BFL reps responded to one of Avalons claims...with very vague mentions of a ~unique~ workflow arrangement enabling them to do...well, the impossible. (IMO)

https://forums.butterflylabs.com/bfl-forum-miscellaneous/500-josh-plz-give-us-some-comments-about.html#post7363
hm..

Quote

While I appreciate the technical prowess of the Avalon team, the fact of the matter is they simply don't have the resources or experience we have in this area.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

*deep breath*
...oh shit.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

are they being serious?

experience in what? delaying shit so many times?

"IT POPS POPCORN!" -- Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo of Japan

I was wondering about that reply. BFL has more exeperience creating ASIC devices? I call BS. Smiley
1277  Economy / Gambling / Re: Powerball Jackpot on: December 07, 2012, 01:56:23 AM
You win 1 million in Canada it's 100% yours.... Same in the Casino's you win it's yours

Just like most of the world outside the US. And this is how it should be since gambling institutions already pay lots of tax - there certainly should not be double taxation by taxing personal winnings as well!

The irony here is in Canada we get double taxed on alcohol, gas etc.....

Don't drink and walk more often Smiley
1278  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin-Central, first exchange licensed to operate as a bank. This is HUGE on: December 06, 2012, 06:43:47 PM

1279  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What tools or regulations can governments impose on Bitcoin? on: December 06, 2012, 03:49:59 PM
In Canada you can't go to jail for not paying your taxes... Unlike the USA.
