Are you doing anything on purpose that would use a lot of bandwidth ?
1862  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: ISP shut down my Intenet! on: November 08, 2012, 11:30:33 PM
Where do you live and who is your ISP?

I live in Ontario, Canada. My ISP is Rogers.

This kind of thing has come up before, and in every case that I can recall, it turned out that the ISP wasn't really combating viri but trying to clamp down on Bittorrent or some other P2P tech that takes a lot of bandwidth.  They can't really say it that way, though.  Why would your miners be consuming a lot of bandwidth?  You should only have one that is 'net facing while the rest just connect to each other and that one.  If nothing else, you can port that one's connection over Tor, although that will slow things down.  A ssh tunnel to an off-isp-network shell account would work well.

Ok I have 2 computers with 5 miners (cards).  I use Deepbit and GUI miner (used to use POCLBM but switched recently).  For the last while I have been running only one computer which has 2 miners.  My question to you is: does the mining software take a lot of bandwidth?  I can't imagine it being more bandwidth than downloading a torrent.  Also, will porting through the TOR network really hide the packets from my ISP?  I never had a use for TOR so I am unfamiliar with it.

Rogers sucks man......... Where are you located.... Get cogeco... Smiley

Seems like you should put this effort in to working something out with Patrick vs. crying about it in the forums....

I don't understand the logic of "let's negotiate with the scammer". What's the value proposition, does it go something like
Quote
He only keeps part of what he stole from me in exchange for being able to steal from a lot more people in the future. Win-win!!11

What sense does that make?!

I think it's because it's black and white for some people, while white and black for others, which makes for a heated, lengthy thread topic.  Nothing special about Patrick - the situation he is in is just special.

No, I fully agree with Zeeks. There's a little sewing circle, Nitwits United or something like that. The benefits of social media.

For the record, he hasn't been operating for "so long". He has just been slimy, that specific sort of "bro"-ness that has the respective nitwits all enamored. Pirate did the exact same thing. In fact, pretty much all the people that fucked "the community" in the ass with a piece of raw pine did exactly the same thing. Buddy-buddy pays for scammers.

Well no.. But something is better than nothing. no?

^... lol....

What happens when bitinstant puts a name in and the exact name reappears on the database?

What are the next steps if this happens?

1866  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 08, 2012, 08:28:08 PM
Well if all you can do is go to court... Then go blow 10 grand to recover 5......

1867  Other / Off-topic / Re: 2 U.S. States Legalize Adult Consumption of Cannabis on: November 08, 2012, 08:15:18 PM
Those are pretty cool TBH!  I agree with impairment testing.
Much smarter than checking for evidence that you've sobered up, huh?

If I drank 10 beers. I wouldn't be functioning normal for 2 days afterwards... If I smoked 10 joints I would be fine after my nap......
Assuming you made it to 10 before the nap...

LoL yeah..... 10 joints would probably make me puke.. same with 10 beers....

A large percentage of construction workers in Canada smoke pot all day long while working..... IMO it doesn't impair you enough to affect your job. It should not make a difference if someone wants to smoke on their own free time.

It boggles the mind how it can be okay for someone to drink but not smoke weed...

1871  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: can't find locations in California to buy Bitcoin on: November 08, 2012, 03:46:14 PM
These Cash places eg. walmart have nothing to do with the actual bitcoins.

They're a means to send the cash to bitinstant so you can get your bitcoins.

I am LOLing so hard picturing a dude running around town trying to buy bitcoins at walmart..... Smiley

Yeah, not sure why anyone would of had any faith in Pirate after he had lied so often......... ^ sorry to hear you lost some coins...... 500 btc? would you really want someone to sell there house over 5 grand?....

Where I am currently living, bankruptcy is publicly announced and divulged in any job application (killing your career forever). For someone in Patrick's profession, bankruptcy results in legally-mandated termination and permanent ineligibly for future employment. The societal attitude, if anything, is that this punishment is much too lenient.

Whether you think Patrick should fork over his house or not depends on cultural values.

Must depend where you live....
1876  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I bought a Roosewill Capstone PSU on: November 08, 2012, 02:49:00 PM
Have you tried turning that PSU back on after letting it sit for a while?

I have had some lower end PSU's click off and turn back on after a while....

Thermaltake 750watt TR2 RX comes to mind "Worst PSU EVER"

1877  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: MSI Motherboard sets fire (PICTURES INSIDE) on: November 08, 2012, 02:26:34 PM
Good to know.  I had problems with two of those boards and eventually had them upgrade me to the 990fxa as well.  They weren't that quick shipping but I'm sure you had your word with them after almost causing a fire.   That probably opted for a shipping upgrade i imagine Wink
I also had to pay the difference in price for the upgrade.  A little disappointing, but again my problem was not as "traumatic" as yours haha.

They have RMA'd this will be the 4th RMA with them in the past few months....

Each time they used Purolator Next day service for me..... Always had the boards returned rather quickly....

They might have matched my shipping though, first few boards I sent them were all CANPAR next day service....
