I tried one of these (5V) to power a hub with a single stick+fan. With rare exception, couldn't get the stick to mine. http://www.meanwell.com/mw_search/SP-150/SP-150-spec.pdfWent back to the 3 amp wort that came with the the hub and everything fired up hungrily. Is there something about this power supply's specs that stand out as to why it 'may be inappropriate' for this purpose? What specs are on the wall wort? If it is 3amps. And 12 volts you need a 12 volt psu not a 5. The hub comes with a 5 volt 3 amp wall wart. Measured no load DC output voltage 5.23. The meanwell PS is 5 volts 30 amps. Measured no load DC output voltage 5.35. Seems the hub just doesn't like the power supply. I'll keep playing with it. Did you use a barrel plug or solder wires to the hub? If you used a plug, could it be the wrong size? Like using a 2.5MM on a 2.1MMplug. Then again, if the hub has some type of over voltage protection, it may see the 30 amps as being to much over 3 amps and kick in the protection.

Not sure what is going on ...i did the instructions
see here on my test laptop (same kind) and all was well
can't get it to work says gekko detect 1-12 failed you don' have privlage completely stymied
using this for the cgminer
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://stratum.mining.eligius.st:3334 -u 1BURGERAXHH6Yi6LRybRJK7ybEm5m5HwTr --compac-freq 150
just to get it up and running
advice? (using 10 port orico powered hub that worked before and others on here say work
suggestions? (or if wrong sidehack support thread i'll move)
using unbuntu 12.04 *all up to date on upgrades*
I did not even use stratum+tcp://, just had stratum.mining.eligius.st:3334 maybe you need to add _yourstickname to burger adhttps://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.msg12378834#msg12378834re vs some special cgminer build which, as a newb in sticks, I did not know how to do. Tomorrow will try wi-fi, although it might be too complicated. yeah no idea wtf i'm doing the machines are old no longer up gradable beyond xp laptops i can run up to unbuntu 12.04 on them. cgminer comes up simply can't find the devices (have 2 sticks) worked on the test machine with a hub so i'm kinda stumped guess i can just re-install on a diff laptop see if that cures it as you can see from the 'long' instructions on my prev quoted msg link there....it should be idiot proof ..so running off and adding bfgminer to the mix probably won't work in that i was hand held the first time thru on the cgminer test rig .now i try to put it up for good in basement blamo nothing works serves me right for moving out of my 'comfort' zone..the only reason i want to use these laptops is they are 'free' and montior the titans also with putty ssh i reached to far and fell off the ladder The "It takes a village" massive effort link below on the first time I got it to work......what I just used https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.msg12378834#msg12378834this time it was a no go cgmier comes up with the 'test start address to start cgminer' i used from page 1....but alas says no permission and device error as above in quoted msg again prob should just reinstall the works I guess After doing the sudo make or the sudo make install, did you do ---> sudo cp 01-cgminer.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/ (if it does not copy, sudo su enter then cp 01-cgminer.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/ ) while still in the cgminer-gekko dir, And the sudo usermod -G plugdev -a whoami (whoami= your user name you setup), then a reboot, to set-up/give permission?

as per my spreadsheet we are at 39 users. But wait for philipma confirmation i am at an impasse getting the sticks to work ...so don't wait for me on this.... I know zip this could take awhile frustrating thing is i had them working on same machine as on a test a couple months ago now nada get page of 9 o3 10 triple spaced lines or so of the below 00000000000000000000000005455 00000000000000000000000000000000005555 00000000000000000000000000000000003333 (or some such about 9 double spaced lines) with at the bottom right corner [STACK] no miners and all is well it just sits there and sits and waits for devices using unbuntu 12.04 with a oric0 10 port powered hub that others have used on here....so flummox'd so again take me off if you need a spot back this looks like it is gonna take awhile Searing
ok i'd like to be in assuming i can still get in (have gekko sticks finally moved them from test laptop to the more 'regular' setup at home)
so is the below what you need?
url:
stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333
user worker:
1PbhCD56EE1ur45UvTca5wEUkAPpTi25oq.searingstick
password :
x
my user name of forum is Searing
I have not RUN this yet because NOT accepted into this solo pool (you all could be full at 40 folk) but when i do flip the switch which (if not please tell me) of the below i should use with cgminer to start on command? Again this is the command line on the laptop command line proper.
(linux unbuntu 12.04)
sudo ./cgminer-o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1PbhCD56EE1ur45UvTca5wEUkAPpTi25oq.0 -p x
or do I use
sudo ./cgminer-o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1PbhCD56EE1ur45UvTca5wEUkAPpTi25oq.searingstick
Again have not tossed the switch yet in that am not yet accepted here to the solo pool.
(such a linux newbie but these machines I use for putty on titans so may as well put the sticks on them ..even thou putty is the extent of my unbuntu 12.04 skills)
as to a bat file and other stuff assuming I get in the pool here and I can get it up we can work on my lack of education on such later
so feel free to tweak or explain here or in PM
I await your decision on if pool or not
Searing
The club address is 1JiWuyX94wrCr7JhkAn7x5qNMCEef1KhqX So your command line would be (and just seen where you missed a space between cgminer -o, either just on the post or if it is what your putting in the command line) sudo ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1JiWuyX94wrCr7JhkAn7x5qNMCEef1KhqX.searingstick That missed space is/will probably be your trouble.

A little late, but finally get a minute or 2 between calling family, making funeral arrangements, and everything.
My stick arrived (Wednesday, I think it was), just got around to plugging it in, and to say Thanks again Philip.
OH well, there's the phone again.

hello all, I made a spreadsheet with the pool info: http://poolmonitor.cryptoglance.info/http://bit.do/stickpool <<== spreadsheet It's accessible read only + comments. I will try to update it everyday with the previous day share info.I think that the interesting column is the last one, with the % of shares found for each worker. 1st sheet is the data with sums and % 2nd sheet is a graphical view /day So a few changes: Data is now imported automatically from http://poolmonitor.cryptoglance.info/, it should update every hour or so.... because I can not work with that imported data as I would like to, the columns with calculations have moved to the beginning of the table: (which is easier to read as you don't have to scroll all the way right) The graph has been fixed (it was in "edit" mode, I believe this is why it couldn't not be seen) I also added a small graph showing the evolution of shares/day. I'm open for comments I'll check regularly (when there's an update) for broken formulas and references. edit: well it looks like the auto update is working as the source is down so the spreadsheet is empty :p Looks good, added it to my bookmarks. Only a couple of things I noticed, 1) is that the donations are listed as eligible for part "A" share, but donations are only eligible for part "B" share. And 2) I think (?) donations don't get dropped for not mining (their good for the whole round).

Yes, with a Pi2 B (don't know if the older Pi's will work with it or not), ran 5 sticks for a week, plugged into a USB 2.0 hub that was plugged to the Pi. Then again for a week with 5 sticks plugged straight to the Pi, with no problems.
Ok so not directly plugged but using the know workaround (which doesn't always work), but good to know. Thank you Jake. Now I just have to find one that ships to Europe and hope it'll handle 6 sticks :p Or I just get another Orico A3H10 and use 3 sticks on each. That didn't come across like I meant. 1 week with 5 sticks > in the superbpag > into 2.0 hub > into Pi2. Then 1 week with 5 sticks > superbpag > into the Pi2. (took the 2.0 hub out)So 2 weeks (and counting) with no trouble either way and depending on the freq you want, you should be able to do 7 sticks. I did the 5 sticks at freq 250 on the superbpag.

No, Max was a custom rebuild. I changed the volt-setting resistors and the main caps on the buck to give it a higher voltage and smoother current.
That's whats needed for the "anything goes" over clock run, if it happens. (the last was just for stock stick) That's the hub (Superbpag) I used for the 24hr over-clock contest run in the compac solo club. Ran one stick with Y set-up at 435MHz got/getting 23.87GH (I haven't shut it down yet and in about 10min it'll be 36hrs run). can usb connector even handle the Y setup on this hub (rhetorical question, of course)? doubling from 2A to 4A per slot? It looks like a nice hub. Only problem is a lot of us RPI users are using 2.0 , USB 3.0 Hub's don't seem to like RPI. Hopefully they come out with a RPI that can handle most usb 3.0 hubs someday. Until then I will be gettin 2.0 for the most part. Just hard to beat RPI as a controller. actually, someone (Jake36, probably) specifically mentioned that this particular usb 3.0 hub (Superbpag) handles raspberry pi well, if I am not mistaken. Yes, with a Pi2 B (don't know if the older Pi's will work with it or not), ran 5 sticks for a week, plugged into a USB 2.0 hub that was plugged to the Pi. Then again for a week with 5 sticks plugged straight to the Pi, with no problems.

i was in this to learn too
for whats its worth heres what I learned short version:
0 phil is a great guy. respectz to him 1 I am not a good as I think i am (seriously always knew that though) 2 my soldering skilz are 30 years rusty 3 trust your first instincts 4 sidehack sticks are capable of like 300% overclocks. from the factory. on hubs you buy at amazon 5 <more learning to come>
0 = 100% 1 = aren't we all like that? LOL 2 = Same here, which makes it kind of bad. If the "all out" run happens, "good" soldering skill will be needed to change a resistor. I know I'm not up to that kind of soldering (especial some of the small stuff on the stick). 3 = Yes 4 = Why I can't wait until the pods are up for sale! If their like the sticks, their going to be 4X's the fun.

not sure what happened to mikestang
pretty sure highest is hedgy73 about 11.6 million
pretty sure most shares is Jake36 around 480,000 plus
so unless I am wrong I need addresses to mail sticks to.
please pm me.
pm sent Congrats Hedgy73 Thanks again Philip for all the work you put in and getting the gekko stick club going.

so hedgy73 is in first for highest share 11.6m
and If Jake36 keeps his together for about 1 ½ he will do most shares. and he could sweep if he pulls a big number like 12m in the next hour
If Jake36 crashes I think Landy1264 wins most shares
Anyone who offer me his fingernails to bite on? Mine are allmost gone ... Just kiddin'! I think Jake36 is front now and has won! Not yet LOL, still got about 15min to go. It would be funny if you do a block solve. That would have been something. But now it fall's to Mikestang to maybe find a block. He's still on the clock isn't he or are my times messed up?

Made it past 12hrs.
It's rolled over to 2:compac and still getting more HW's than I'd like, so hope it makes it another 12hrs.
you went bold with freq 435 if you don't crash it would win most shares. If it stays like it is for another 12hrs, might be ~ 485,000-500,000 shares, so will see.

OK, quick question, is it still in if it goes from 0:compac to 1:compac?
Mine just changed over a minute or so ago (after the screen above), but still hashing.
your gui still has date and time the same? show a screen shot as it should I have had a stick auto roll but the gui does not crash. you had 2015-11-21 09:42:44 Yes, still same gui at 2015-11-21 09:42:44 and still the same best share 3.62M. I'm kind of guessing/thinking once the stick gets to ~ 170-180 HW it rolls over, I'll see what it does if I'm around (I just hope it keeps hashing when/if it does it again). I'll wait to see if a better best share shows up in cgminer or something else, before posting another screen shot (don't want to clutter up the board to much).
