241  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 22, 2015, 02:35:31 PM
New hardware fixed part of my problem.

2) edit - new usb hub and ran 2 sticks on xp laptop just fine, old hub was crap, will update soon >2 sticksplug in a second stick and all goes to hell, LIBSUB_ERROR out the wazoo and both sticks only hash around 2GH.  I didn't try more than 2 sticks.

Any ideas what's going on here?  The errors on the Win7 box are very confusing, I did not expect any issues there.  I'm thinking most of the fail on the XP machine is probably just the fact that my old WinXP box is old so I'm not too concerned there (gotta build a new computer one day...), but I can run 6 nanofury usb sticks on it at the same time no problem.  In fact I can run the 6 nanofury sticks in one instance of cgminer and 1 compac stick in cgminer-gekko at the same time (pictured below), zero issues, so I'm at a loss why more than 1 compac grinds it to a halt.

you have to try the linux 7 build .

night and day over windows.

Only thing is, if you use an older computer around the pentium cpu time that does not have PAE, you have to use an older version of linux (some where around Ubuntu 10.04 or similar) with a NON PAE kernel (or is it PEA? one of the 2).

243  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: September 22, 2015, 12:21:58 PM
Guys dear, please help me.I bought two antminer u3 and wanted to connect them to the laptop but nothing happened.Managed to connect only one of u3,two u3 did not want to work in.I believe that the problem lies in the fact that in the bat file I have written only one device.I don't understand and don't know how to register two devices.may need to add something in the config, but I don slightest and have no idea how to do it.help tell me what to do.if you can give an example of a bat file or config.the hope is only for the your help.thanks for earlier.

What version of CGminer are you using?   Also you telling it the one device and not other two?  That would for sure cause it.

Try without picking specific device.  As long as you have only U3's connected it will work fine.  If you have other miners yes it will be harder.
I use cgminer 4.8.0 .when connected one device then everything works fine.when two devices are attached nothing happens.production will not start.I saw somewhere that in order to connect two or more miners need to use the command -d ,but how to use it?where to write ?I do not understand and do not represent. Sad Huh Huh Huh Huh

Go ahead and try a newer verision 4.9.2 is what I'm using. I'm not aware of a reason to keep it old with the U3's.

Remove the -d and it should find all U3's.  If not try unplugging power and usb from all miners and see if you and replug them (in case they hit that zombie mode).
I downloaded cgminer 4.9.2 but I do not understand how to start.he asks to register the url.what is a url?? I'm sorry I do not understand how to use cgminer.I know how to run cgminer only through .bat file.I also put in .bat cgminer.exe --bmsc-options 115200:0.6 -o stratum+tcp://thecoin.pw:3540 -xxxxxxx -p xxxxx --bmsc-voltage 0800 --bmsc-freq 1286 .when you run .bat file to open cgminer window for a split second and closes.nothing else happens.help me please.what am I doing wrong. I don't know anything in cgminer.

asks to register the url.what is a url stratum+tcp://thecoin.pw:3540

ck-'s cgminer does not use --bmsc for the U3's, it's --au3-freq 225 <225 is default, you can use up to 250> --au3-volt 775 <775 is default, use from 725 - 850, what ever gives you best hash at your freq>.
244  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 22, 2015, 02:51:19 AM
First, no hub with bfgminer using .bat = bfgminer.exe -o [pool] -u [user] -p [pass] --set compac:clock=x0b83

1) bfgminer530 will not see the sticks on my old WinXP box.  Neither starting bfg with them (or just 1) plugged in nor hot plugging while bfg is running wakes them up.  The program just sits there and asks me to add hardware.

2) bfgminer530 on my Win7 box sees the sticks, however I get comms errors.  Here is just 1 stick:
http://i57.tinypic.com/317gjkp.jpg

3) when I plug a 2nd stick in the errors happen twice as often:
http://i57.tinypic.com/k3q70p.jpg

This has dropped back several pages and I'm still struggling with the Comms error, I cannot figure out what is causing it.  Any one have any suggestions?

And here's another issue to toss around, on my Win7 box the --set compac:clock tag in my .bat file for bfgminer has no effect on the sticks.  I tried several different values and the sticks always hashed at the same rate.  I tried omitting the command from my batch file entirely and the sticks hashed the same.  What's going on?

About the only thing I can think of, is try changing this: --set compac:clock=x0b83  to this: --set compac:clock=0x0b83

Not up on building and running under windows, so don't know if it needs that leading 0 or not.

So there's a miss-type in my OP and I do, in fact, have the leading 0 in my batch file.  I tried omitting the leading 0 and still no effect, just to be sure.  It's as if bfgminer is ignorning the --set compac command on this computer.  Could it be related to my comms error I wonder?

Have you tried adding the:     -S compac:all      to the bat?

I've seen that for U3's you add -S antminer:all for bfg to see the U3 sometimes, so wondering if it might have carried over to the compac (Novak stripped icarus down for compac and rebuilt it for cgminer, so did Luke jr do the same??).

EDIT: Just a thought to, is the "compac" maybe supposed to be "Compac"?  Don't know if it would make a difference or not, but?.....

you have an old xp laptop you can't upgrade further on the windows stepladder use Unbuntu 12.04 (that is the highest i can use on my old only good for xp laptops)

Been wanting to build a linux machine for a while, may as well start out with the old laptop, good idea.  Thanks, I'll get back when I get around to installing it.

246  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Modifying a USB hub for extra power and "I did it!" showoff thread on: September 21, 2015, 01:01:17 PM

This is the one I ordered yesterday, figured it should run one modified 10 port hub with 5 sticks (with a frankenstein setup) and just a plain hub for the Pi and 2 maybe 3 fans (and should leave headroom on the power).

A rough drawing of the frankenstein cross of Y cables, your bridge in the review, TheRealSteve's stick test setup (take a little from each and combine). This way the sticks are in place for an easier cooling setup.

I bought a bag full of these USB male plug to Female jack to do this hack too, i will photogragh my adventure with this if you wish. (please, don't hesitate to show us your hacks!)

Never thought about using those adapters, looks like they should work (as long as the covering comes off easy and you got room to attach wires).

I think I'll hold off on doing mine and see how these turn out, it probably will be easier to do and save some time.

I found this 5 volt meanwell

https://www.trcelectronics.com/ecomm/pdf/lrs75.pdf  so this one = yes

should power a 10 port hub 24/7/365 all 10 sticks at about 1.1 amps

86.5% eff  very good for a 5 volt psu.

I have 2 of these

https://www.trcelectronics.com/ecomm/pdf/lrs150.pdf this one = yes

on order  they are a direct replacement for the psu in my 2 studhubs from klintay

https://www.trcelectronics.com/ecomm/pdf/nes100.pdf   = no

The eff will jump from 80 to 86.5  the watts will jump from 100 to 150

this below one will do  32 sticks and is 87.5% eff

https://www.trcelectronics.com/ecomm/pdf/lrs200.pdf  and this one = yes

debian build works have 19 sticks on 2 hubs.

Glad it's working.

Sexy. That's probably the biggest single was of these that have ever been run at once. Pictures?

Even sexier would be a short video of them all hashing in the dark. Probably light the area up pretty good.
249  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Modifying a USB hub for extra power and "I did it!" showoff thread on: September 19, 2015, 10:31:28 PM
I'm with Mikestang, kind of got the jest of it, that for a 12V it boils down to the 12V---->5V as how good it is.

So I guess it's better to do a hub that takes 5V straight, like the one AJRGale did and take the conversion from 12V to 5V out?
250  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: September 19, 2015, 09:54:11 PM
Sticks came in yesterday, Muy Bueno.
Took me a couple of hours to find the support thread and Novak's brilliant work.
Now hashing @ Eligius @ 200 MHZ, ~10Gh/s each.
Them LEDs are BRIGHT, Tooooooo F'ing cool (I'm such a redneck).

They'll sure light up a room in the dark LOL.

You dropped the "wget" bit.

Dang it, that was not the only thing....messed up the directories and stuff also... but looks right now....I hope

Unless something's changed that I'm not aware of, there is no gekko in stock cgminer 4.9.0 so that wget won't help much at all. I think you're gonna want to grab http://gekkoscience.com/misc/cgminer-gekko.tar.gz instead, as noted in the first post.

I grabbed the wrong text doc, fixed it now  Embarrassed
253  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 19, 2015, 07:40:21 PM
I suggest trying a live usb of Debian - https://www.debian.org/.   With live usb you can run off a usb stick and not even have to do a install on HD.

But I found windows to be a pain with drivers I used 7 and 8.  Went to debian and no issues.   Then I went to RPI and raspbian (which is built off debian) and still working great.

With linux just no messing with the drivers and very very nice.

Okay I loaded wheezy to an i5 4570t

and the pc will only run the sticks.

so how do I load software like  cgminer.

what link is good to load?

I am running just regular 4.9.2 with Icarus.  You can get a guide pretty close on here - http://blog.phrog.org/2013/07/06/simple-debian-cgminer-asicminer-block-erupter-usb-setup/

Before it try in terminal - apt get upgrade
That will upgrade a lot of things.

Some commands might require sudo in front as root access.   I even went overboard and ran cgminer as root.

I also looked at guide in this thread and added the following to make sure I had all possible things needed.   Again it's overboard if someone takes time they could clean it up for sure.
sudo apt-get install build-essential autoconf automake libtool libcurl4-openssl-dev pkg-config libncurses5-dev libudev-dev

Also used icarus cgminer running not the old cgminer it mentions on that guide something like:
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://stratum.mining.eligius.st:3334 -u 1BURGERAXHH6Yi6LRybRJK7ybEm5m5HwTr --au3-freq 150

okay so my run time on debian is about 2 minutes life time starting today.

the guide reads

3) apt-get stuff.
apt-get install autoconf gcc make git libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses5-dev libtool libjansson-dev libudev-dev libusb-1.0-0-dev

First things first, open terminal

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade   (this will update the the system) it will ask do you want to continue y/n hit y and enter.

After it updates,  sudo reboot  (to be sure updates are active).

Then in terminal window again

sudo apt-get install autoconf libusb-1.0-0-dev libusb-1.0-0 libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses5-dev libudev-dev libtool automake pkg-config libjansson-dev
(you may get a message saying you need another package installed to install some of the above, if you do, just add it to the above)

Again y/n hit y enter
After it's done,

wget http://gekkoscience.com/misc/cgminer-gekko.tar.gz   (fixed)

tar xvzf cgminer-gekko.tar.gz                                           (fixed)

cd cgminer-gekko                                                           (fixed)

./autogen.sh

./configure --enable-gekko --disable-libcurl    (cgminer doesn't need it, but linux does to build)

sudo make install   (you don't have to do the install)

While still in the cgminer-gekko dir,

sudo cp 01-cgminer.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/   (if it does not copy,  sudo su enter then  cp 01-cgminer.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/   )

sudo usermod -G plugdev -a whoami        (whoami= your user name you setup)

sudo reboot

After it restarts open terminal

cd cgminer-gekko

sudo ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://whateverpool:XXXX -u poolusername.andworkerifyouwant --compac-freq XXX

Not familiar with wheezy, but you might be able to copy/past the comands and then just fill, answer, hit enter when it asks.

EDIT: fixed

I suggest trying a live usb of Debian - https://www.debian.org/.   With live usb you can run off a usb stick and not even have to do a install on HD.
So your suggestion is for me to run another OS?  Hmm, that seems like quite a reach just to get a couple stick miners hashing.  My XP machine is my main computer, I use it for a lot of stuff including my bitcoin node, not sure I want to go messing with additional operating systems...

Be sure to run zadig as administrator.  I plugged in 1 stick at a time and made sure zadig used the correct driver.  Is you batch file specifying a frequency ...
cgminer -o stratum+tcp://stratum.mining.eligius.st:3334 -u 1BURGERAXHH6Yi6LRybRJK7ybEm5m5HwTr --compac-freq 150
I understand how to use zadig, that is not an issue here.  As shown in my post I am specifying a frequency.

It honestly is not a lot of work to try it on live usb then you know if it works.  Zadig just is a pain and seems not to be perfect.  Debian no zadig to mess around with.

I suggest at least trying it once see what it does.

never ran debian  but I went to the site looks easy  enough.

http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-faq/ch-compat.en.html

The current Debian GNU/Linux release, 8, contains a complete, binary distribution for the following architectures:

amd64: this covers systems based on AMD 64bit CPUs with AMD64 extension and all Intel CPUs with EM64T extension, and a common 64bit userspace.

my question is simple.

I have an

intel i5 2500t
intel i5 6600k
intel i7 4790
intel i5 4570t

I can use any of these.  so how do I check for the EM64T extension to decide which one to use?

Answer is here:

http://www.intel.com/support/processors/xeon/sb/cs-012580.htm

Q. Which processors support Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology?
A. Since Q4 of 2006, Intel® EM64T has been supported in all mobile, desktop and server processors that are based on the Intel® Core™ Microarchitecture.

So I am going to do a debian  with the i5 2500T

I think you'll like it, it will take some getting use too, that's why I've got the main computer setup in a dual boot with Win 7 and Mint 17 (got a few things in 7 that I still use), but some times I might go a week or more between firing up 7 (well except now that I got the sticks, still trying to figure out putty on mint). Some time in the future, Win 7 (Microsoft) is gone completely.

After about the first 2 months or so with Mint, I put Ubuntu on two old XP laptops (that were no good for Win 7), getting some more life out of them now and saved myself from having to buy a new laptop (but I know sooner or later I'll need a new one and the first thing is switching it to a linux setup).

Only thing is get a raspberry compatable usb hub to make your life easy.   I did the homebrew of cutting red wire and have a hub between that and RPI to work.

The RPI really is pretty picky on powered hubs on what it likes.  For most part they say it does not like usb 3.  But usb 2 is a crap shoot on some on if they will work.  And there are lists of usb's that have been tried if you google a bit.

Interesting. Sorry, but I don't agree.

I've used several different USB 2 powered hubs with Pi's with a range of devices from DualMiners to GridSeed 5 chips to the Compac stick. Never had a problem. In some cases I've run these configs for over a year. Super stable.

I've also direct connected devices that don't need power from the USB bus, like a Zeus Thunder X3. No problem for Pi's.

Maybe I've just been lucky in my powered USB 2 hub selection...

If you google it you will find others with problems with some usb hubs.   Look at everything from feedback issues to just not working.

But I am using all the same brand as far as powered hub.  So It could be the hub's their self but it works with a debian install, and windows so it's odd it has problem with pi.

Out of curiosity anyone else out there running these sticks with a RPI?

I've got 5 sticks running on a Pi with a 7 port Plugable 2.0 usb hub w/ the 60W power supply (nothing else is plugged in to it). Got the Pi running off another 7 porter, with a fan on the sticks.

I bumped them up to freq 175 this morning and about 2 hours ago when I checked, had zero HW after about 15 hours running.

Your stick is going out today, and probably delivered tomorrow given the proximity.

Sounds great thank you for the update.  I do appreciate it.

That means I should be able to test RPI with it pretty easy.  I think I will try raspbian first see how it goes, then minera as a second option.

With all my playing around with the Pi and raspbian, you don't need to install the libjansson-dev (either cgminer or raspbian has already got a version in it).

Will be interested in seeing if you get it to read/write the cgminer.conf file, I'm still working/trying to figure it out, while I wait on a few things before I start cranking the power up some.

Well, I just thought of something I haven't tried yet. Going for another test...LOL.

I got it the regular cgminer 4.9.2 to work on rasparian. Im using one of the test ones and a review one.  I was able to use enable icarus and run those that way.  Not sure if final production model will work with that or if it will want to run on compac.    I should know in a day or two when I get my production one.

Problem I ran into was the RPI model b did not like my powered hub.   It works fine with windows, and debian on a pc but the RPI was not a fan.   So going to try minera and see what it does.

Check to see if the hub is back feeding power to the Pi, by putting a small piece of tap on pin 1 either in the usb cable or the Pi slot. Or if you got a cheap wire laying around, that you don't mind cutting, cut the red wire and see if it helps.

Also if it's a usb 3.0, the Pi's don't like them, you can try plugging the 3.0 hub into a 2.0 hub pluged into the Pi.

Jake36's stick is probably (going) offline - it should pop up a separate warning on that Smiley

This looks good, might have to check freenode out.

Yeah, I been playing around with the cgminer-gekko build on the Pi, so dropping off here and there.

Was on kano's pool before I seen this one was up, pulled a 20.5M share with the sticks (at least by cgminer stats). Actually getting (or going to get) a couple of payouts with the sticks now. Think I'm may be down to only ~199.9895 years to ROI LOL  Roll Eyes

Still got to get better power to the hub so I can crank them up some.
