121  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 21, 2015, 04:48:10 PM
Ooh yes its competition time Grin.

Ok started my stick at 09.42 GMT will run until same time tomorrow. Best share so far after 1hr 45mins is 116k.

Good luck everyone Smiley.

at hedgy73    you forgot the info above you lose out a bit maybe maybe not .

the high share above is 961,969

your shares are 315,210 but this info in screenshot below is a hour after your start.  that may or may not hurt your chances

Sorry Phil I didnt think to combine the pool stats page as I knew I wouldn't have a chance on the number of shares because I'm running @ 300. Was just going to pin my luck on best share. Thanks for adding my stats anyway Smiley.

I'm still way off the 961k best share anyway at the moment still stuck on 116k.

well the 300 could be the only one to run 24 hours in a row without a break down and you could win.

but I would not need the share count since it would be the only one to run 24 hours in a row.

300 could win.

2hrs in and getting more HW's than I would like, but to late now   Smiley

I never thought about starting tonight  Smiley , was thinking in the morning I would be able to keep an eye on it for a while, just to see what it does and to make sure it's not getting to hot.

Then again, I just seen where cgminer says it started: [1969-12-31 19:00:19.859]  Wink (I forgot to update the time server in Ubuntu LOL).

So looks like I'll stick to starting in the morning.

124  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 19, 2015, 11:51:42 PM
I'll probably start sometime around 8:00-9:00AM Eastern (-5 GMT if I remember right)
125  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 19, 2015, 11:35:12 PM
Hi, i had 5 of the compacs running, then switched a few around for better airflow, and 1 of the 5 wont start to hash - (it was previously)

The green light is on, nut no blinking.

I started with a different USB 2.0 powered hub- it was from the old BUYAHASH I found in microcenter which claims to be able to push at least 1Amp per port, and was running in cgminer fine. - unsure of how its able to push at least 1 Amp per port? it is 5Amps total i think?

here is the link to the hub page at microcenter and a breif description:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/431863/10-port_usb_20_hub_w-_power_supply

"Need a cheap, high powered hub? This is the best one weve tested that is compatible with Raspberry Pis and other devices that require the older USB 2.0 protocol. Made by the same manufacturers as our 20-port hub, this model is noticably cheaper, while still ensuring that every port gets the power it needs.Included is a 12v/5a power supply, USB 2.0 cable, and hub. This model is designed for ports that require a high amount of electricity, and should be able to provide at least 5v/1a, or greater per port."

Then connected the ras pi running the modded version of cgminer for the compacs and all 5 were fine and hashing.

Is there a way to reset that one that doesn't hash now?

I am just running them at freq of 175 and the potentiometer is top left corner on each (flat part)

The other 4 are hashing at around 9.5 to 10 GH/s each

thanks!

I think even if your only running at freq 175, with where you said you have the pot set, your pulling more power per stick than you need, so it could still be a power issue. The 4 are using up enough power to keep the 5th one from hashing.

Pull 1 of the stick's that "is" hashing and see if the 1 that's not hashing starts to hash. If it does, you know it's because of power.
126  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nexious.com - 5BTC Block Finder Bonus! - Pays Tx, PPLNS, 0% Fee Promo on: November 19, 2015, 04:18:11 AM
I really hope this turns out good. But all signs are pointing the wrong direction. Is there any way to block the transaction or recover the block if the owner doesn't pay? I am only out .3 or .4 but for people who have been mining the whole time or the ones that rented major hash   just seems unjust to say the least.

the only way this turns out okay is

I hit this in the next day or so

 http://solo.ckpool.org/users/1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtje

I would split it with miners here  and it would be ½ for me and the rest for the ones robbed by nexious.

It is unlikely that nexious will return  and it is unlikely I will hit a block with the one s-7 mining .

I would think though that the odds of me hitting the block are better then the odds of nexious paying off 35 btc.

He could have run the scam with a single pc owed and internet he was paying for. .

I never saw a real sign of ddos protection services.

I have  pretty fast internet my cost 50 a month  so July to Nov = 5 x 50 = 250 usd.
power for a good pc 100 watts
 so 360 kwatts = 36 bucks

cost 286  plus a pc  net 25 coins = 8k

what did software cost?  well many pools have died and could have sold him a package for some coin.

or an old pool owner could have done this.

my radar went up when I had the pin issue.  I had really good records on the original setup.

 ie i knew my pin
I knew my payment address.

When I went to run this a month ago it could not run on nicehash. (lucky for me)

buy a screenshot and pdf'd that my btc addy was entered correctly along with a pin.

When i posted a day or two saying I would try again.  I finally got it to hash. I thought let me check the pin and the btc addy as i think this will hit soon.  so what happened no btc addy and no pin  .

I cancelled the hash purchased.  He did not give me support to  put in a btc addy or a pin.  None of the shit worked.
The best thing that happened is jonny hit the block.
If this went on for more time people would have lost more.

I was suspicious every time I saw the block count get near 200 then the pool went down only to see the block count go back to the thousands. maybe he thought he had a block and shut it down to early.
Real generous of you. That S-7 must be nice. did they make it quieter than the S5.

I'm kind of glad now (but feel bad for the ones that stuck it out),  that I only wasted a couple of weeks hashing here.

Was 1 of the original first 50 miners 0% fee for life sign-ups. Then afterwards he started making more and more 0% fee, it Just kind of stuck in the back of my mind "how is the pool going to make it, with 0 fee's?". That's when I stopped and figured "let's wait until after the first or second block, just to see how it goes".

Just going through every miner, text, and script to make sure nothing is left that could mistakenly be pasted or clicked, that would point any hash to this pool.
127  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 19, 2015, 12:07:02 AM
does someone have a more 'simplified' link then the pages of info a couple months ago ..that you all kindly posted on how to get these beasts up on a powered usb hub?

It's pretty simple, if I understand your question.  Find yourself a decent hub, one that you know how many amps each port provides.  Get yourself a usb volt/amp meter and plug in a stick and plug it into the hub.  Start ramping up frequencies in your batch file while watching HW errors in the miner window and the amp reading on the test meter.  Turn up the voltage knob on the stick if you start seeing HW errors.  Stop adjusting frequency up once your meter reads what the usb port on your hub is rated at.  Once you get that down you can get a Y cable and bridge two usb ports on the hub and repeat the process but you now have double the amperage available.

What about the few I have seen here that are were soldered to give extra power.  I have seen where they have them going to a different source to get power, just not sure what they were going to.

What external power are they going from to the soldered usb hubs we have seen a few of?

You can use an ATX PSU with 5V from the molex or use a Mean Well 5V PSU (used for LED lights and/or medical equipment). Basically, you can use almost anything to get 5V from.
128  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 17, 2015, 01:29:27 PM
Just a quick question

With bfgminer NOW taking your gekko 8gh btc usb miners, does someone have a more 'simplified' link then the pages of info a couple months ago ..that you all kindly posted on how to get these beasts up on a powered usb hub?

I could go thru and do it that long involved way with cgminer from 2 months ago..but would (if it makes more sense.. and if the process of putting up bfgminer now that the gekko miners are supported ...and is simplified in some manner) I'd prefer the option of bfgminer..again if it is more 'straight forward' and 'newbie tested' (I"m so 'lame' with linux)

If not I'll simply dig up the old cgminer step by step 'idiot proof' method the last time from back in this thread and limp my way through again.

I DID have the 2 usb sticks working just fine on my 'test' computer at work 2 months ago..and FINALLY life ..has given me enough days off and 'slack' I can put this up
permanently on my 2 laptops 'monitoring' with unbuntu my 2 KNC Titan Machines with  ssh/putty....(what the heck they are on 24/7 anyway) Smiley

Anyway if there are better instructions available...bingo bango..then I'd prefer to use bfgmienr...if NOT I will not waste everyone's time and will simply go back to the 10 point list on this thread from back a couple months and 'bootstrap' them up again that way.

thanks

my reply they did not seem to take

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.msg12377760#msg12377760

additional fix to above so that i the above steps did work (which did work on the test machine 2 months ago)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.msg12377911#msg12377911

additional: Jake36 link he refers to in the above 'tweak of the install instructions' for clarity.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.msg12377870#msg12377870

Again if I can limp my way thru with cgminer above and the 8gh gekko usb sticks......I'll just do the above

If there is a better way (or link) with Bfgminer (now that the gekko miner is supported) I'd prefer that ...and again just asking..I can always do the above

(it should be obvious that I'm clueless on the steps above taken with my original 2 month cgminer install that works....it "takes a village' at least in regards to me and Unbuntu Sad

I'm not using BFG, but on the first post of the support page for BFG: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=877081.0 , it looks like

(in terminal window)
sudo apt-get install bfgminer (or sudo aptitude install bfgminer)

However, if neither of the 2 (easy) above works (or they install an older version) from the read-me: https://github.com/luke-jr/bfgminer to build (basically, the steps for cgminer-gekko in this thread is almost the same, follow the same steps, but change cgminer-gekko to bfgminer in all the steps and change the build dependencies) with: sudo apt-get install build-essential autoconf automake libtool pkg-config libcurl4-gnutls-dev libjansson-dev uthash-dev libncursesw5-dev libudev-dev libusb-1.0-0-dev libevent-dev libmicrohttpd-dev hidapi

Almost forgot, first thing is always: sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-get upgrade (better to make sure system is up to date first (again you might need to use "aptitude" instead of "apt-get")).
129  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 16, 2015, 06:36:59 PM
Does the unmodded mean stock 150MHz frequency or can that be whatever? Its the voltage you mean unmodded?
I think we can go up to .8Vs and as much MHz you can get without changing heat sink or so.
More tuning than modding ...

Yes, what ever MHz you can get. I would have to read back through the build and review threads, but I think .8V, if I remember right, is about it for the stick's without changing (modifying) a resistor.
130  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 16, 2015, 02:21:00 PM

Is this legit for the OC club, cause I can get one made that is twice as big?

as long as it's air cooled I believe it is Smiley

I would prefer everything unmodded. Stock heatsink, stock voltage ( up to .8V) and power only over the usb-plug ...

Maybe we wait until more members got their Y-cable ready..

We should name the contest somehow like "burnin' down the house", "eternal flame", "the roof is on fire"!  Grin

Yes, I have to agree. Let's keep it clean for a while.  There's plenty of time to burn things down later.

I think the first 24hr over-clock run was/is only stock heat sink and air cooled. Unless I missed a post or 2.

Then sometime later, a second over-clock 24hr run, that is/was "any thing goes".
131  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 16, 2015, 03:45:17 AM
Hi everyone
Got my stickminer form bitshopper.de (easy to order from and quick tracked delivery) and have been playing with Multiminer ever since, as I could not get old/GekkoScience cgminer or bfgminer to even find the stickminer.

My config:
- i3 Ivybridge / 8GBRAM / SSD
- Windows 8.1 Pro
- Multiminer 4.0.4 (latest available on GitHub), incl. bfgminer 4.9.0
- Zadig USB driver removed, so that MultiMiner could find the stickminer on the COM port

Got hashing quickly, but impossible to get the hashing above 4GH/s, although I have:
- Turned the voltage up as per post #1,
- Been using a brand new Y-cable connecting 2 USB 2.0 ports to the stickminer,
- Added --set compac:clock=x0d83 (to boost the clock rate to 175MHz) in the SHA 256 argument of the   Advance Miner setting (I even tried --set compac:clock=x0d83 in the Pool arguments of the pool config!),
- Stopped mining, unplugged stickminer, re-plugged stickminer, re-started mining between config changes.

But no luck so far in getting over 4GH/s on the Home dashboard or in the API monitor...
Any anybody been able to achieve a better rate (no one so far, looking at previous posts)?
If yes, how?

I've had the exact same issue. Nothing worked for me except multiminer and had 5 sticks maxing out at 3.5-3.8 Gh/s each. I don't feel as crazy now that someone else has the same issue. If you figure it out. Please let me know. Thanks!

Well, the bfg 4.9.0 says it all.
Any thing older than version 5.3 in bfg, doesn't have support for compacs in it.

It's probably using U2 drivers or something.
132  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 16, 2015, 03:33:28 AM

I forget the guy that asked about high share but it is good .

Also a few did not get a y cable that they order so they can have action.

And to make it just a bit easier the oc contest crash and burn you are out.

but the  for high share you keep the highest share before you crashed. --- ie you could get lucky even if you crash out.

Might be a mute point for me on the hash rate any-ways, was testing some and popped something in the hub I modified for power. Have to see if I can modify another cheap hub laying around, before we start.

Guess I should have stuck with 488MHz @ ~ 26.59Gh, instead of shooting for higher.
133  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 15, 2015, 07:53:09 PM
the hosted stick for aarons6stick  has  had a restart it was restarted on the 13th >>
we need to see the start time  to know if we crashed.

anyone know how to show start times on minera?

Just glancing at minera read me, they have this screen shot that has a start time, but not sure if that is showing how long minera has been running or how long cgminer/bfg has been running? Or if it would show a crash of mining and then a restart of mining?

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/michelem09/minera/master/assets/img/screen_minera_dashboard_hi.png

And read me says something about an "uptime widget"? Again, is that for mining or for how long minera has been running?

I'm wondering if screen (the linux program) could be loaded in minera and then used to show cgminer/bfg?

Which then could be used to get screen-shot's of cgminer/bfg???

do you do minera for sticks?  I need some one to see if we can lock in time for 24 hours like I can do on cgminer or bfgminer

If not I will need to figure a different tracking method so that we can have a fair contest.

No, just cgminer.

Maybe someone running minera can see if they can get a screen-shot of cgminer/bfg, inside of minera by using Putty (like is done for the S's)?
134  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 15, 2015, 07:36:09 PM
Ok, finishing up preparations for running sticks...
i want to try both pi and pc/linux or debian to run those.
Q:
I am thinking about getting a cheap XP laptop, then install Linux and/or Debian.
The specific question would be: is it possible to partition the initial XP drive and install Linux on one half and Debian on another OR is it better to keep XP and simply run linux/debian off the stick or CD without installing on the hard drive?

If anybody comments, i would appreciate it.
My interest here would be to learn linux/debian a little while "playing" with sticks.
thanks

I've got the Pi 2-B running my sticks (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS), another running U3's (Raspbian), and another is running my TV storage/streaming (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS).

Yes, you can have 2 OS (or 3, 4, ?) boot (Windows and Linux, or even a couple different versions of Linux) on the same computer (I've got Linux Mint 17.2 and Win 7 on this machine now). Learning Linux was why I did the dual boot and now I may start Win 7 maybe twice a week (still got one program I use Windows for).

I would suggest, go for a newer model laptop built for Win 7 (newer CPU's and the like, plus will be a little faster) if you go the laptop route. The laptop's built for Win 7 should be supported for years to come, where as some of the old XP laptops are already getting left behind with the new builds of Linux (search for PAE and you'll see what I mean) and you have to stick with older versions on some laptops already.

136  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 15, 2015, 02:49:56 PM
I'm gonna go ahead and advise the same thing I advised last week, which is the quote from the first post which states that if you have trouble the first thing you should try is turning up the voltage. The flat part in the upper right corner still puts it at pretty much dead bottom voltage. If it's one of my sticks, it left here set for about 640mV (flat in the bottom right corner) and was tested to work without error at 200MHz/11GH.

So what you do is, you turn the screw up a bit and fire it up and see if it works better. If not, turn it up a bit more and repeat. Just like the advice in the first post. I specifically sent you to read through this thread for solutions to your problem since a lot of what you need is probably in the first post.

Additionally,

None of my sticks are tested to work on anything USB3, and I don't know anyone else's opinions but I've never recommended their use on a USB3 hub either, reason being they're not USB3 devices and were never tested for compatibility.

Thanks, I will try to adjust the settings more on the physical USB.

It would be great if someone can post a picture of where the actual voltage settings would range on the USB Miner from low end to max, like "this position is "x" voltage".

I think that would be extremely helpful for some.

thanks!

Easiest way would be to use 1 of these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J3JSEG6?keywords=drok%20usb&qid=1447593939&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

However you can also just start cgminer with no sticks plugged in hub, plug 1 stick in, then turn the pot (in small increments) till it starts mining. Then adjust it some more to get rid of HW errors. Start on the end that will leave the pot in the open until the next stick is plugged in.

Plug the next stick in and adjust it, repeat, until you get all sticks plugged in and running.

Then again, I just looked at some of the 1 star reviews of the Anker 3.0 hub (that you linked to in a previous post) and I wouldn't buy one. More than a few die after a few months, some will only get 2 or 3 ports working, some will constantly drop connections, some over heat, and some only get 2.0 speed or lower (even if everything is 3.0).

Even seen some review's of another model of Anker 3.0 hub, that some programs would not run, if the hub was plugged in before opening the program (had to open the program and then plug the hub in). So seem's that the Anker 3.0 hub's are not as good as the 2.0 hub's were in the past.

Got a little more tweaking to do and just want to see how much time I have to be ready.

What speeds are you getting buddy?

I'm just doing 325MHz @ ~ 17.8GH for now.

Had one doing 450MHz + for a short time, before deciding I needed better fan/s (the old would probably have been OK, but want to be sure) and I forget what Gh I was seeing, because it was just a test to check if the hub would handle it and to check the cooling.

Nah Ebay, yeah I guess they will arrived next month Tongue

EDIT: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221661361513
I ordered the same from the same vendor.

and in the meantime, I also ordered that:
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/201064854204?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Quote
USB 3.0 ports supply 0.9A each.
12V 3A power unit provide powerful power supply for HUB and devices.

So I guess I won't need the Y cable :p

(and if I do I can use this switch to plug 1 end of the cable...:
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Orico-10-Port-USB-2-0-Hub-/400888657646?hash=item5d56d376ee:g:cdMAAOSw37tWBDLy)

I don't think you want to mix the power from two different sources (hub's) into 1 stick (or anything really). Remember reading something about that, but can't think of the reason why it's bad.

Probably why it's a NO NO, to use 2 different PSU on 1 board on S3's and the like.
140  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 13, 2015, 04:25:26 AM
If either of you are in UK or even EU I can send you some of my Y cables as I wont be needing them? I have 5.

US or further probably wouldn't be worth while.

thanks but i'm in Canada Tongue

Also, Thanks, but in the U.S.

Plus, already made what I needed.
