281  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 18, 2013, 01:00:00 AM
From the BFL website:

Plus

Due to double node jump, the max power should be 0.77W/GH (3.1W/GH divided by 4). Based on everything we know from any chip industry (FPGA, CPU, GPU, etc), that should be the ceiling in power-consumption.

Regards,
Nasser

Picture says 600 GH/s @ 350W.
BFL "engineer" (who's area of expertise is Visual Basic and .NET) says 0.77W per GH/s

Unfortunately, multiplication says 600 GH/s * 0.77W per GH/s = 462W

Based on everything we know about multiplication (FPGA, CPU, GPU. etc) that should mean you are just as good at guessing TDP in August of 2013 as you were in August of 2012.

If you read carefully, it's noted that 0.77W/GH would be ceiling due to node jump, not taking any optimization or correction into consideration. The actual numbers are lower, and the ~0.6W/GH was number we decided that was closest to reality + error margin.

Regards,
Nasser

1) How are you going to get 400+ watts into 1 card 4 x Pcie connectors Huh
2) You would no be able to disapate the heat that 400 watts would generate for a single fan reference design
3) Your VB.NET power estimates where out by ~ 40% what happened in the last 6 months

Finally 4 how can u as a human be associated with this total joke of a company whose professionalism is NON EXISTANT if not criminal in nature !

Reference style fans work the best by far. You could cool a 400 watt card, depending on how the heat was spread out. A 6990 is about the same. They should be able to make a water block for these pretty easily though.  Seems more likely that the card will not run at 400watts. When is the last time they hit the mark guessing wattage?

I think insurance and motion sensor cameras with alerts is about all you can do. Especially if your just using your house. If you had a Minirig or Avalon you could probably slip a gps unit or a prepaid phone with gps inside.

I wonder that the plan will be if it ends up being 2-3 times that size. You'll need a whole pc just to run one.

I am using 12.4 on Win 7 64bit.  I have 4 7950's on three different rigs and need a dummy plug on one card in each rig or the system or the video card doesn't 'initialize' and cannot mine anything.
That sounds correct. Mine will mine but the primary card runs about half speed unless a monitor is plugged in. Doesn't really seem to be a issue unless your using a card that needs a newer driver.
285  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Have you ordered your HashFast Baby Jet yet? on: August 17, 2013, 02:40:14 AM
blow me, BTC only payments haha, maybe if it had paypal I would take a risk free gamble.

You guys do realize that PayPal will hold/cancel your account for anythng btc related that they catch wind of it?

PaTrolling?

They froze mine for it.

The cops stopped my house this morning. Apparently this guy bought 4 erupters with my neighbors paypal account and sent them to my house. How the hell is that possible? He could have just taken my coins, what's the point of all this?

OMG Cops. are you joking?
I wish, they woke me up bright and early this morning. It makes zero sense to me. How does the guy get into my neighbors paypal account just by having my shipping address. It's extremely hard to explain to the cops because it makes fuck all sense. I buy something from someone and they go out and steal it in my name? WTF

I gave them this forum address to check. So if anyone has info on this guy or a similar situation post it please.

Has anybody else been scammed?
I bought 9 from him. I haven't heard back yet since I paid him. I will post something if I do.

Despite everyone saying its all about drivers it's not.

I installed 4x 5970 cards on windows 7 (new machine etc) 12.xx drivers and shit didn't start working properly until I put in dummy plugs.

Just sayin...

LET THE FLAMING BEGIN!
Did you install ccc or new drivers at some point? Maybe you didn't erase open.cl and amdocl from your system folders when you downgraded. I know my hash rates were terrible until I did that.
290  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [3] countdown! on: August 13, 2013, 07:54:53 AM
Your minercount should be 32.

a 850W Gold Seasonic should be enough to run 4 modules, right?

I put 2x 4pin CPU connectors in there or 1 x 8 pin CPU power connector and the IDE looking cable in there, right?

It should auto detect the 4th module after reboot right?  Or is there a command I need to set 32 for minercount?

**EDIT** ok set 32 for minercount manually.

hashes are now 107-110 GH/s

Thank You S M I L Y.

850 is not really enough for even 3 modules. Mine was making some horrible noises. I was able to fit a 1350 watt psu in it. Most of my power supplies did not want to fit in the case.  I would get something big enough that your not over 80% load. You get a better efficiency the closer you get to 50-60% load.

What are you planning to mine with the old Dells? We throw 15-20 of these away every month.

You could do this.

292  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: August 13, 2013, 03:36:26 AM

I'm guessing to weigh down the base of the CD/DVD case so it doesn't fall over given the cords coming off the side...

Yeah, I broke a couple of the fan blades of my Jally so it vibrates more then normal now.

When your btc mining with 11.x drivers you should not anything plugged in, at least with windows. I only had to start plugging 1 into the main card when I started using 7900 series cards with newer drivers.

You're finding the total opposite to everyone else.  Older 11.x need dummies, 12.x and 13.x don't.

You must be referring to older drivers or windows xp. I've been using 11.x for the past 2 years on all my 5900 and 6900 series rigs.

I have a some used 5870's and 5970's.

I received my unit yesterday. It appears to be new or cleaned really well. So far it seems to run great. 84XX
298  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 13x Radeon 5970, 4x 5870, 2x 5970 Koolance water blocks on: July 26, 2013, 12:22:58 AM
How much is S&H to switzerland when I buy everithing?

However we also have to discuss price abit since 3 of them are partially damaged and 2 have water blocks i cant use.

You don't have to buy them all. $80 would cover shipping there. Let me know how many you want and I will get a price for you.
299  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [UPDATE]Batch 2 AVALON STOCK OVERCLOCK to 84 Gh/s @350MHZ[STABLE] on: July 25, 2013, 03:57:15 AM
I set mine to 350 and it seems to be stable. Temps are 11,35,35. It's got cold air blowing on it though. Definitely not crashing like my Butterfly units do, I have to turn them back on at least once a day.
300  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [UPDATE]Batch 2 AVALON STOCK OVERCLOCK to 84 Gh/s @350MHZ[STABLE] on: July 25, 2013, 03:52:19 AM
UPDATE

345mhz is best with this build. STABLE, fans on 100%, low hardware errors. 82 - 84 Gh/s
700 watts

Unit can run unaffected at temps up to 55C like this. Which means ANY and ALL can benefit from this post. No extra cooling measures necessary.

My final comment on this.

Does this image set the fans to 100% or do I need to do that myself?   If so, how to I manually set the fans to 100 without bypassing them connecting to the board?  Thanks
FWIW - Often 100% fan speed gets you only marginal improvement over say, 80% fan speed, but significantly decreases the lifespan of the fan.

Not a big deal if you can replace them (and the unit automatically shuts off to prevent overheating) though

not true

inappropriate cooling will lead to higher hardware failures... thus more restarts and down time.

Inappropriate cooling is putting the garden hose on it. Higher airflow is not going to damage anything.
