Like the other posters wrote. Quality over quantity.

Spain is trying out a 4 day workweek don't you know? The productivity increase will far exceed the 8 hours of work lost.

Same with sleep. If you get that sleep, the remaining hours will be even more productive than if you lost that sleep and had all these extra hours. Sleep quality is a very important health metric.

If you stopped sleeping your memory and mood regulation would turn to absolute garbage.
62  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: With a clogged network, users will start abandoning BTC for alts. Change my mind on: March 11, 2021, 03:37:59 PM
I'm sure bitcoin will fix the transaction fee issue even if it takes a long time. I'm not going to abandon it.

However, if you allow me to shill my bags syscoin would work great for point of sale transactions until the lightning network adoption happens.

Syscoin can do 60-300k TPS and the fees right now (really empty network) are under 1 cent. Of course syscoin is so underutilized that there is practically 0 adoption but the technology is all there.
The cheapest way to move value right now is that network, and because it scales well, the fees would probably stay even with much greater adoption. It's fast and it's dirt cheap.
Syscoin is merge mined with bitcoin for Proof Of Work, and has Masternodes for most of the mining reward, voting and providing an avenue for even faster transactions and better scalability.

As for convincing you not to abandon it. Bitcoin has the first mover advantage and can afford to move slowly in a much more mature way.  Proof of work is the only proven battle tested paradigm and bitcoin has the largest network. Syscoin is anchored to that same proof of work through merge-mining.

I don't think any other project has the resiliency of bitcoin. The fee issue will be solved. But I wouldn't want us to rush into any shitty solutions. This isn't a video game where the devs can hurry up and finish it and ship the product with bugs.

This isn't even an OS that has to be stable enough for most users. This is the number 1 crypto.

Also unlike a lot of the other cryptos bitcoin has never changed its rules and its rules are good. 21 Million Coins, no more.

Once the second layer (lightning network) is up and running, the first layer should become clear enough to support those onboarding lightning transactions.
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk: "Bitcoin is almost as bs as fiat money" on: February 21, 2021, 04:03:30 AM
Elon Musk is a charlatan. People don't recognize that because he's so successful but he's the most overrated person on planet earth right now.
I don't wanna get into it. But his opinion on bitcoin is irrelevant. Only his influence among his butt-sniffing followers.

Maybe I'll open a topic on how Elon Musk is a charlatan so that I can be linking to it in situations like this but I'll summarize.

1. He got ridiculous amounts of credit for SpaceX, especially re-usable rockets.

The only reason he is successful is government money and lots of it. The costs of his launches are actually higher than the reusable space shuttle (per launch cost) if you include the fact that the shuttle had multiple passengers and not just cargo.

Many parts of the rockets cannot be re-used and maintenance costs on top of that mean that he hasn't made rocket launches all that much cheaper. In fact his way of doing things doesn't really reach the point where re-usable rockets even make sense.

2. Hyperloop. As in the whole idea is 100 years old. He stole it, gave it a new name and claimed to be the inventor. If that is not bad enough, it's a terrible idea. A low pressure tube can fail along any of it's seals, when that happens (or someone just shoots a part of the steel tube) all the passengers in the system die. The trains accelerate as if in a blow dart gun, crash and die.

3. Electric Cars and batteries.

Electric cars are simpler than Internal Combustion cars. Yes, he's done a lot of good with Tesla but it's not really anything revolutionary. When he simply switched the size of the batteries that will go in his electric cars he claimed that as an improvement.
Yes, a bigger battery can hold more power but that doesn't mean there is any improvement of using more smaller batteries in energy density.

4. Ridiculous bullshit claims.

a. Claiming to make tunnels 100 times cheaper. In reality he compares the cost of digging a tiny hole to the cost of a metro system with trains, stations and everything.
b. Claiming that rockets can be cheaper than planes
c. Claiming that large electric aircraft could work with current technology
d. Claiming that he will make rockets 100+times cheaper by making them re-usable, and then not even reaching the break even point on beating single use rockets for years and years and years.

64  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Let's talk severe depression on: February 21, 2021, 01:48:11 AM
In most cases the "cure" for depression comes from dealing with the very "issues" that are causing such misery. For example: If you were rich yesterday and the stock market takes a dump on you right down to Chinatown and today you are eating from the dumpster outside McDonalds there is no doubt the majority who suffered this fate would have a severe case of depression.Incidents, occurences, traumas and other such things that lower self worth and perceived value are the cause of depression.Only in extraordinary cases is the root cause due to chemical imbalances or deformaties and injuries so the patient should be given help in the area that increases hope and joy in their lives before turning to medication which eventually leads to noting other than addiction, organ damage and a psychological crutch that will never allow them to walk without it.

Indeed, Depressions don't have specific symptoms that will helps us define if a person is in the state of depression as each individual has their own specific roots of problem that cause this in the first place, they also have the specific way to deal with them. But the way they deal with them wasn't always enough as they might be only scratching the surface of the problem. So little sensitivity and patience are always needed in helping the patients suffering from depressions. There is no easy route in psychological problems, it will always be rough and a long road.

Not really, I've had times in my life that were really harsh, were I was not only not depressed but also profoundly happy.

And this is not a unique experience.

And then I've had times were money was plentiful, I had really good food and a clean bedroom with good A/C and the ability to go out and I was very badly depressed.

External circumstances can affect people's mood and can affect a person's mental health but they're separate from it. A chemical imbalance is most often the root cause. It's not up to the person being depressed. Nobody wants to be depressed.

If that wasn't the case how could you explain rich and famous people who commit suicide? People like Chester Bennington from Linkin Park for example?
65  Other / Off-topic / Re: Stroke stuff - "the more you know"... on: February 20, 2021, 02:11:38 PM
Strokes used to be for older people, but our diets are catching up to us.  Education/awareness is never a bad thing.

What I'm really surprised by is when the ambulance people thought you had the flu and didn't realize you had a stroke. So a lot of people could get a stroke and not even know it. Did they know about your hand flopping around or any other symptoms or did you not think they were noteworthy initially, attributing everything instead to drinking a potentially spiked drink?

66  Other / Off-topic / Re: Stroke stuff - "the more you know"... on: February 18, 2021, 12:44:14 PM
The article says he took shrooms.   Many hallucinogens affect blood pressure and heart rate.  (That would explain the bleeding from parts of the body with thin skin - like the eyes)

(Edit: I forgot to mention that the bleeding from the eyes and ears wasn't present initially but later, if you watched the whole thing, Chubby Emu mentions that the bleeding from the eyes and ears was because of really thin blood caused by the bone marrow not working properly and not because of high blood pressure.

The patients blood pressure actually fell, by a lot.)

I was thinking that the only other time that bone marrow gets attacked and platelets don't form right is with radiation so I'd look that way.

It takes a lot of left turns for your body to get to that point. Unfortunately the first thing I found comes from CBS News, which is not trustworthy.

https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/radiation-sickness-8-terrifying-symptoms/3/

Quote from: CBS News
Radiation sickness can cause bleeding from the nose, mouth, gums, and rectum. It can cause people to bruise easily and to bleed internally as well - and even to vomit blood.

The problems occur because radiation depletes the body of platelets, the cellular fragments in the blood that are form clots to control bleeding.

So there are the proteins that the liver produce that help with clotting but then there are the platelets themselves formed in the bone marrow, a lack of proteins from the liver is probably more likely than the platelets themselves not forming normally.

Edit: Maybe I'm cherry-picking and wrong, I don't think this part is relevant enough to the topic so other than if you chose to reply to that I'm dropping it.

Your experience, and first-hand knowledge is really valuable. I really like that facts you may not know section and my nitpick doesn't really affect that, nor do I think it's actually wrong, just that you don't need a paper cut if your blood got thin enough.

I've seen a stroke in a ferret and it took weeks for it to recover most of it's function, medication helped a lot with that.
67  Other / Off-topic / Re: Stroke stuff - "the more you know"... on: February 17, 2021, 04:03:01 PM
If your blood didn't clot at all you'd probably bleed through your eyes and other parts of your body and within your body tissues and die instantly. (disclaimer I'm not a doctor or a pro and accurate info is hard to verify but that's my understanding) No paper cut needed!

Not really.  Otherwise you'd have blot clots around your eyes, your fingernails, your hair follicles, etc.  Our blood is held in by our body naturally.  Much like a garden hose, you need a rip or tear to start a leak.
Edit: I'm not completely sure about it /edit
Not if your blood doesn't clot at all.

https://youtu.be/vmiowRlk8Xc?t=798

Earlier in the video it mentions that blood was coming out of his eyes and ears
Chubby Emu is licensed in the US and the cases presented are real stories (look at the about page in the YouTube Channel for a description).

That kind of makes sense to me that if blood thins enough it would pass through a lot, but maybe I'm wrong I can't find a good source on the subject.

I have seen people on blood thinners getting small cuts and bleeding like crazy though, while not bleeding through the eyes and ears so maybe it's the degree, maybe your bone marrow has to get really messed up until you get to that point which would make that kind of rare.

68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't get discouraged! on: February 17, 2021, 02:00:39 PM
@KonstantinosM. There was a bitcoin Asic created for production as early as 2012? I read an article that the first Asic machines were produced on 2013 by Canaan Creative.

Kind of a complicated answer. The answer is of course the scammy company BFL (Butterfly Labs) I preorder on the 13th of October 2012, it was supposed to come in right before the first halving around christmas. It came in around August of 2013.

Cost me around 600 dollars. Which was a lot for me back then as I had just graduated high school.

It was completely my mistake for not doing due diligence and just looking at the promised numbers (GH per $) and (GH per watt) and it all seemed rosy, meanwhile there was a thread on Bitcointalk talking about how this company is run by a scammer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=110805.0)

I didn't do due dillegence, I deserved to lose all my funds and get scammed but they just delivered really late, I still mined a bunch of bitcoin with it, but remember that at the time bitcoin wasn't worth all that much.

Now can you imagine mining with an ASIC from December 2012 to August 2013? That would have been hundreds of bitcoins.

You remember such a long password, it's amazing. But you probably take into account the factor that we are susceptible to the elements, accidents, and other misfortunes that unexpectedly happen to people? Sometimes the trauma can completely discourage all memory. Although this may not happen, everything needs to be considered. And if you have insurance for this case, as described here on the forum in various examples, in this case, it becomes an iron guarantee of your passwords.

Thank you! I take the risk willingly. I see it this way, The more you memorize something the more time and difficulty it takes to decay. To forget your name would probably take hundreds to thousands of years (you won't even live that long). To remember a long password all it takes is discipline and repeating it in your head relatively regularly.

Yes, I should have an emergency plan in place and implement it, like a timelock transaction to a backup wallet if I forget my password for 5-10 years or something. But I just don't think it's that big a risk.

If I fuck up and lose 10s of thousands of dollars by forgetting my crypto encryption passwords I'll let you all know! But you'll be waiting for a long time because that won't happen.

69  Other / Off-topic / Re: Stroke stuff - "the more you know"... on: February 17, 2021, 10:49:46 AM
I'm glad you're still with us. That post was an interesting read, it makes me want to learn more about strokes and first aid so that I can feel less lost if it happens in my life.

I wanna nitpick a part of your post, because that's the kind of guy I am!

FACTS YOU MAY NOT KNOW:
(snippity snip...)
2) Blood thinners do not "thin" the blood.   If a blood cell gets a certain protein, it becomes a clotter - otherwise it does not clot.  Blood thinners slow down the production of that protein.   If we didn't clot, we would bleed to death from a paper cut.
If your blood didn't clot at all you'd probably bleed through your eyes and other parts of your body and within your body tissues and die instantly. (disclaimer I'm not a doctor or a pro and accurate info is hard to verify but that's my understanding) No paper cut needed!

Most people stop being an asshole after experiencing things like this.  It's nice to see you switched things up and decided you'd say fuck your legacy and instead make as many people hate you here as possible.  All the lies, the harassment, and now attempting to pull a scam on users here by raising funds for a vaporware project.  I never respected your approach to "scam busting" here.  I also honestly don't believe you've ever saved a single user from losing a single satoshi here ever.  You have harassed a whole lot of people who tried to get into Bitcoin, maybe not knowing the proper way to approach the community that would meet your standards.  This has caused countless users to leave Bitcointalk and possibly even give up on Bitcoin which may have changed their lives for the better.  As far as negative influences on the community go, you take the cake.  I can't think of a single user responsible for chasing away more people from Bitcointalk and making hundreds or potentially even thousands of people's lives worse.  That will be your legacy.  You can blame being an asshole on your stroke if you want, but the truth is that you've likely always been an asshole your entire life.  You've chased positions of authority and been removed more times than I can list due to your horrible attitude, history of jumping to conclusions, and terrible judgement.  God bless anyone that has had the unlucky experience of interacting with you while you temporarily held these positions of authority.  I would like to think at some point you'd want to make amends for your behavior, but more than likely you'll continue to play the victim role while attacking others and spreading lies so that you can feel like less of a failure for missing out on the greatest investment opportunity of a lifetime because you were busy harassing users on a forum to try and feel superior.  A more fitting outcome I could not imagine.

Instead of those long walls of text, why don't you make amends and answer some questions?

1)  How much did you pay out in your reserve fund, which was approx 1% of the money you held?
2)  Where did the money Pirate sent you to make you whole go to?  It appears to me you profited twice - once at the start of the ponzi and the second time at the end when you embezzled everything.
3)  You stated you lost your coin with everyone else.  You stated you've never lost anyone's coin (not a single satoshi).
4)  Was Theymos aware you embezzled the money, or just that you lost everything?

You'll continue to play the victim role while attacking others and spreading lies so that you can feel like less of a failure.

Maybe vod's legacy will be to protect people from scammers like you OgNasty! I don't wanna get into this because it's only tangetial to the topic but your NastyFan's project seems like a way to get people on the internet to pay for solar and exercise equipment on your home.
I don't wanna get into this on this topic but feel free to DM me or reply a topic in which you defend your business model. But from my perspective Vod is in the right here and you posting this wall of abuse, especially in this thread is plain stupid.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone bought BTC at $6K yesterday at an exchange and they want it back on: February 17, 2021, 10:01:38 AM
And finally the KYC bites someone in the ass!

Let this be a warning. The money that you made legally, they want it back.

Well, it's bitcoin so they can't reverse the transaction themselves. I wish there was more information available. Since the exchange made the mistake they should accept responsibility. It's kind of a gray area, but the demand letter on their part is definitely the wrong way to go. They're not in a position to demand jack sh*t and that's all they should get.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't get discouraged! on: February 16, 2021, 02:20:18 PM
Make a brainwallet out of that 1.1 bitcent and repeat it enough that it would take you 100 million years to forget and you'll always have a little something saved up.

Never ever advice people to make brainwallets. Brainwallets are not secure. If a human can come up with an easy-to-memorize phrase, then it's trivial for a computer to bruteforce such phrase. Also human memory is not very reliable, you can repeat your wallet every day for many months, but then get lazy, stop repeating it and quickly forget it and inevitably losing your stash.

Just write down a seed on a piece of paper, make a few copies and store them in different places. Regularly check for damage and you will be fine.

I have a 25 digit alphanumeric password that I remember ever since I was 14 years old. I haven't had it written down anywhere. (and it's not bitcoin related nor does it store bitcoin, I don't even use it still)

There was a time I probably didn't repeat it the whole thing for a couple of years (risky) I still remember the whole thing. It's not difficult as long as you're disciplined. Maybe hang a poster that says "Do you remember"? Maybe don't put your entire life's savings into that brainwallet if you don't trust that you'll keep it in your memory.

If a human can come up with an easy-to-memorize phrase, then it's trivial for a computer to bruteforce such phrase

Not really, if it were all your passwords would be completely insecure. Each character/word (as long as it's not easy to guess) adds exponentially more security.

Just write down a seed on a piece of paper, make a few copies and store them in different places. Regularly check for damage and you will be fine.

Now that is actually dangerous. If it's a seed and there is no password involved a burglar could have access to these coins. We all have to make our coins impossible to steal by simply stealing a hard drive or a piece of paper.

I would never have piece of mind if my wallets encryption password wasn't in place everwhere my wallet is. Yeah, it's another hard to memorize string of characters but I've had it memorized this whole time and it works. Yes, it would be bad for me if I forgot but guess what? I won't.

Meanwhile if someone breaks in and gets one of the papers that you methodically check every now and then your stash is gone.

Real jobs are low payed jobs i dont work for food !!
If i work i want more why else i should work ?

I hope just all this greeedy people will crash together economy

In usa people dont mind to lose 100k on stock market
But for me the 100k will all my life ?

I hope the economic crash will take everything from you !!
Then you people learn to give !!

This is hillarious.

You wouldn't know it from the numbers but most of the people in the US barely make ends meet after expenses. The economy has left millions behind.

Why do you feel like you deserve other people's bitcoins?

OP do you think that people in "richer" countries are the bad guys?

Society needs to be reformed so that nobody lives in poverty but other than that no-one is entitled to luxury and when you really want something you're going to have to work for it.
73  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Let's talk severe depression on: February 16, 2021, 03:54:46 AM
I trust that many of us on this forum have struggled with depression at one time or another. Some chronically. It also doesn't seem like there is an easy fix for it.

Every one has in one stage experience or will experience depression. Some people will describe depression as a sickness that affects the mind. It is a disorder that can result in unending sadness and a lack of interest. If you are depressed, please talk to someone about it. (A professional preferably)

Did you read through the thread?

Anyway, I'll disagree with that, not everyone will experience clinical depression at some stage in their life. Perhaps a deep sadness, perhaps boredom, maybe the odd suicidal thought here and there.

Clinical depression is a different animal all together.

If you are depressed, please talk to someone about it. (A professional preferably)

This has also been discussed previously in the thread and there's a lot more nuance to be had about that aspect of the topic.

If you're doing this for a sig-campaign understand that Serious Discussion doesn't count towards your post-count.

74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Don't get discouraged! on: February 16, 2021, 12:05:39 AM
I was here in 2012 and when I made a mistake (bought ASIC from the wrong company) I thought I'd never accumulate a lot of bitcoin so I messed around instead.

Just because I couldn't mine Hundreds of bitcoin I thought I missed this opportunity to get in and when my miner came (Months late and way past the first halving) I just messed around with it. Mining alts and playing with them even.

Just because you missed 15k Bitcoin it doesn't mean it's over.

I wouldn't recommend throwing money you do not have into it just to buy in. Maybe buy a little because you don't like the idea of inflating fiat and banks being able to freeze your account.

Ideally find a way to sell your services or products for bitcoin (like Andreas Antonopoulos would recommend)

There's only going to ever be a small amount of bitcoin. Even if you only accumulate 0.1 BTC instead of 1, that's still more bitcoin than every US Citizen would get if it were equally distributed. Maybe even just get 1 bitcent and something for the transaction fee. That's still a decent stake in my view.

Make a brainwallet out of that 1.1 bitcent and repeat it enough that it would take you 100 million years to forget and you'll always have a little something saved up.

75  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we get another golden oppurtunity to buy? on: February 15, 2021, 11:45:09 PM
Bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme.

I'm in because I believe it has a role to play, because I like its strong fundamentals and because there is a very hard supply cap that is universally supported by the devs and community.

The lack of a hard cap is why I never got into Ethereum.

Bitcoin has a unique position amongst cryptos, it's the big boy and it's likely to stay that way.

However none of this is guaranteed.

I believe bitcoin will go a lot higher since there is a limited supply and other serious benefits (such as the inability of the government and the banks to freeze your funds), censorship resistance and the ability to transact anonymously if done right.

So I believe that over the long term bitcoin can reach 500k or 1M in the future.

However I also understand that Bitcoin could stagnate or crash.

Knowing that we're at all time highs buying bitcoin right now means less potential profit.

If you're lucky enough to have spare money to buy in, maybe dollar cost average to protect yourself from a potential crash.

If it goes back to 20k you won't be feeling very smart.

Also don't let FOMO guide your actions. You could miss out, but you could also prevent yourself from wasting your money. Bitcoin is not a casino.

The best thing to do would be what Andreas Antonopoulos advocates, which is work and earn some Bitcoin. Sell some art or your service or something.

Bitcoin is frozen at 1 price... 1 Bitcoin = 1 Bitcoin in the future.

It's fiat that is not temporally frozen in 1 price 1 dollar today is not equal to 1 dollar 20 years from now.

If the price of bitcoin stayed the same I'd still be in because then I am my own bank and my money can't be taken. But of course scarcity is part of the protocol and bitcoin will become more and more difficult to acquire (as the mining reward dwindles and more coins are either lost or find a home with strong hands).

79  Economy / Speculation / Re: Owning One BTC In 2035 Will Make You A Millionaire on: February 12, 2021, 02:23:07 PM
Bad advice. Don't borrow to speculate on the price of Bitcoin. It's not a sure bet. We might all hate the idea but bitcoin may be surpassed by another crypto or even stagnate or simply grow at around the rate of inflation past a certain point.

If you borrow money and any of these things happen (or even a crash) there will be nothing you can do to recover. You will also have to pay interest.

As for owning 1 bitcoin. There are 7 billion people. There isn't even 21 million bitcoins up for grabs after all the lost early coins, the coins that Tesla now holds and the coins that whales hold.

Getting yourself situated in a nice secure piece of land and owning and developing that would be better than putting yourself in debt in hopes that bitcoin will go up.

The bet would have paid in the past but you don't know that it would pay in the future.
I guess it's a valid strategy if you really think that bitcoin will 10x (depending on how much interest you'll be paying. It's just irresponsibly risky and it can very easily ruin your life.

Satoshi would have announced it. I can't imagine he'd want to do something like that un-announced because it would undermine faith in the protocol's security. I can already imagine what the FUD headlines would be.
