501  Economy / Economics / Re: Alternatives to currency issued by banks and governments on: May 21, 2021, 11:36:37 AM
So unless bitcoin develops or a new currency is created, we are far from real crypto
Well, we've already seen developments in lots of blockchains: BTC, XMR, ETH.. Monero has been able to drastically reduce tx sizes, ETH has moved to PoS.. there are lots of developments around the crypto area and the future will only bring positive changes to it. Change is gonna happen, we only need patience and new ideas. And since BTC is open source, we never have deadlines. New idea? Great, just adopt it as long as the community wants it. It's simply beautiful Smiley
502  Economy / Economics / Re: Alternatives to currency issued by banks and governments on: May 21, 2021, 09:01:22 AM
So is Intercoin the perfect alternative? Because it seems like you're looking for the perfect one with unlimited txs while promoting it .. Smiley

We're probably never going to have a perfect open-source alternative to our current monetary system. Decentralization comes with a cost. Since decentralized means you don't need to trust, how do you do everything Bitcoin does but instantly and without occupying much storage space while keeping up its security and decentralization? There are a few alternatives, but none have proven yet to be a proper competitor to PoW and BTC's technology overall..
503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Equivalent Network Time on: May 20, 2021, 10:23:12 PM
Very interesting point of view indeed! Never thought about how scarce time is. In fact, as time goes on, I personally tend to appreciate time more than I used to.

Of course, the "percentage of total supply" mindset isn't imo the best you can go for. Even by owning 21 BTC you would only own 0.0001% of the supply so who cares really? Unless you're a billionaire, no matter how much you purchase you'll still be left very far behind, lol.

In fact, we should stop counting Bitcoin as percentage, time or whatever else and just keep stacking up. It's precious, it's an asset like no other and we have a one-time opportunity to be part of it while the network is still young and maturing. Smiley
504  Other / Off-topic / Re: Musk deleted his Twitter bio: no longer a technoking and Mars imperator, hooray! on: May 20, 2021, 08:14:51 AM
Not sure why we should celebrate this because it literally means nothing lol. It's not like he's suddenly now not a CEO of multiple companies anymore.

Also, probably.. just probably.. we should finally stop talking about Elon.
We're giving him the same fame we once gave to McAfee and we're still giving it from time to time to CSW. Musk's going to keep receiving the attention.. because this is what people nowadays seem to get hyped by; it's all about time before Musk goes back under the shadows though, so just keep waiting lol
505  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Impozit pentru veniturile din trading de criptomonede on: May 19, 2021, 04:01:48 PM
Cuvintele cheie sunt "intr-un an fiscal". Din asta inteleg ca daca ai cumparat BTC in 2015 in valoare de 1000RON si ai vrei sa vinzi acum problema s-ar pune in felul urmator:
Cati RON ai investit anul asta = 0  RON
Cati RON ai scos din activitatea crypto anul asta = 1.500 RON

506  Economy / Speculation / Re: MELTDOWN - if you don't sell now, YOU WILL LOSE MOST OF YOUR FUNDS!!! on: May 19, 2021, 03:51:19 PM
So your advice is that everyone who recently bought BTC should sell on loss hoping to make a profit in the future? Sure, why not .. if you want to go broke, do it.

We can be patient instead. Those who've bought in 2017 @20,000$ and kept their money until 2021 have tripled their bucks if they held without DCA-ing in the meantime! If you DCA'd and bought at $3k last year as well, you'd have so much more money right now. $1k worth of BTC bought @20k$ and then $1k more @3k$ means an average of $11.5k per BTC. By 2020, you would've had 6x your money, even if you bought in at $20k and even if you never sold anything.

Patience shows its net worth over time. Learn to be patient if you want to earn.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin drops – altcoins take the stage? IRS principle (Profits/Risks/Retent) on: May 19, 2021, 11:51:18 AM
The third option is actually the riskiest. Just take a look at CMC right now and you'd see how "minimum" of a risk you're going to enter:

DOGE -24.61% in 24hrs
SHIB -35.70% in 24hrs
UNI -28.48% in 24hrs
CAKE -29.72% in 24hrs
VET -32.10% in 24hrs

Check the 7-day figures and it's even scarier.. ETC is almost 50% down from a week ago.. and so on... is this "minimum risk" for you? Because it seems like Bitcoin has among the lowest drops so far in the market..! Getting in some unknown projects could give you zero profit, make you rich or make you poor. The first and 3rd options are the most likely though, according to my experience!
508  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Samsung Hardware Wallet on: May 19, 2021, 09:44:42 AM
Does anyone think that a giant company like Samsung will create a decentralized wallet that provides a minimum level of privacy and that no party (government or other) can get access to it using backdoors?
Right now, besides Trezor Model One and possibly Model T, I think all upcoming hardware wallets should be taken with a pinch of salt and suspicion. The US gov is clearly looking to get access to our hardware wallets, so new fancy models could be their perfect bait. And then, it's Samsung.. look up "Samsung privacy issues" on DuckDuckGo and you'd have a ton of results about spying concerns and so!
509  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asking for help from people who’ve been around for a long time on: May 19, 2021, 05:25:37 AM
So if I miraculously find the secret phrase to that wallet I can get my funds back, theoretically?
A seed phrase or a wallet backup is everything you need to recover your funds. And also probably your only option, because without a seed/backup there's no other way of recovery.
510  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: KYC - IDENTITY VERIFICATION or IDENTITY THEFT on: May 18, 2021, 07:54:45 PM
But are there any centralized exchanges left which allow you to trade between fiat and bitcoin or vice versa without KYC?
Obviously not, didn't even think about it, lol. But managing to purchase BTC using fiat without KYC is I believe so much easier than switching in between alts is (excluding tokens on the same chain).. at least in Europe. In Romania, purchasing BTC is as easy as going to a local ATM. Same for selling, excluding the fact that they take a quite large % of your amount. So if you can get to own a Bitcoin, trade it and sell it without KYC, why bother verifying at all? I know some people who've verified their accounts although they trade under $2k a month.. this is called just giving away your personal info without a reason for it!
511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could eco-friendly pools like Terra Pool end the energy consumption discussion? on: May 18, 2021, 06:10:40 PM
Do you have sources that prove that the production and operation of electric cars is demanding more energy than Bitcoin? I would be really interested in comparing those both sectors, and I can't really believe your claim, because for example Norway is one of the biggest electric car markets and has almost 100% renewables-based electricity. But I may be wrong Smiley
It's probably not demanding more energy than BTC now, but it might soon.. Looking in-depth into the renewable-based stuff is a quite hard study to do tbh, but here are some numbers that I hopefully didn't get wrong..:

Bitcoin consumes ~110 Terawatts/year according to HBR. According to PolicyAdvice, there are around 5.6M electric cars right now (the number is probably much higher today as the article seems to take figures from 2018-2019 tho). Considering the figures Provider Power put out, the average US driver would need ~341kWhs per year to drive an EV as usual.. multiply 341kWhs by 5.6M and you get a total of 1.9 terawatts per year needed to power all EVs in the world if they all had a constant consumption of 3.3 miles/kWh.

Now let's take the predictions.. "By 2030, there will be around 4 million EVs in California alone." (taken from Policy Advice).. it means that California alone will consume ~1.36 terawatts per year through EVs in a matter of only 9 years. Now add car manufacturing electricity consumption and you have a ton of watts consumed.. the figures will also grow very fast in a short timespan. There were approximately 1.3B cars in the world and the predictions are that by 2040 under 33% of the cars in the world will be electric.. Take just 25% of 2016's approximate number of worldwide existing vehicles instead of 33% and multiply it by 341kWhs - that is 112.5 terawatts! Is that not a lot?

The renewable energy part .. it's hard to digest it, the prices we'd have to pay per kWh are (I assume) higher than regular contracts and so the transition from fossil to renewable is a hard job itself for the average human. What I'd like to know is how much Musk's SpaceX pollutes and consumes overall, because that seems like it's both intentional (when you sign an electricity contract you might not know the source of energy but Musk surely does know about rocket pollution?) and silly when you think about Musk's tweets against BTC..

I am not biased and I cannot deny facts so anyone feel free to prove me wrong. Happy to learn new stuff. But at this time, I think it's safe to say that EVs are consuming an increasingly lot amount of electricity too, and at the end of the day how many of those are charged using 100% renewable sources of energy..?
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A question no one ever asked on: May 18, 2021, 04:06:09 PM
It's simply impossible to "eradicate" bear markets. They'll always exist, because this is the nature of markets overall! We'll always have bearish, bullish or neutral (sideway-moving) trends. As long as Bitcoin can be sold, there will be sellers and the price will dump at some point. Smiley
513  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: KYC - IDENTITY VERIFICATION or IDENTITY THEFT on: May 18, 2021, 09:30:47 AM
There are a handful of exchanges out there that allow you to withdraw 1-2BTC/day without KYC. How many of you really withdraw $50-100k a DAY to require a verified account? Unless you really need it, just try to stay away from it. There is no advantage they are giving you besides an increase in limits, which is imo not worth your valuable personal information.
514  Local / Bine ai venit! / Re: Salut! on: May 18, 2021, 07:46:19 AM

Cheesy
515  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Taxe ANAF pentru Binance Visa Card? on: May 17, 2021, 02:00:36 PM

Din pacate, exista foarte, foarte multe nedreptati in lume.

A avut!

Cam asa s-a ajuns Smiley
516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk on Twitter: "Chihuahua." The Sheep: "We Love You Elon, BTC is Dying!" on: May 17, 2021, 09:16:11 AM
And people are annoyed when someone calls them "sheeple". This is the perfect demonstration of how close we are to sheeps right now. A random stranger posts a word on Twitter and the sheep are interpreting it more than the Bible has ever been before.

We're living weird times for sure. I suppose the Musk domination of markets will last as long as McAfee's did, and then he goes back into the darkness.. with billions in profit though. I can't wait to read his new tweet claiming he was definitely wrong about the BTC carbon footprint and that "experts" proved him the opposite. His tweets are very predictable at this point.
517  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: That feeling having your first merit on Bitcointalk on: May 16, 2021, 10:31:17 PM
Come on, no offense but I don't think we can call this hard work.. 32 posts in total out of which 10 are in off-topic, 2 are bounty registrations and the majority of others are quite useless .. There's so much space left for you to grow, merits don't come from bounty registrations or useless posts!

Try to actively participate in the community with some useful stuff if you want merits. Read and learn new stuff about Bitcoin and whenever you see some newbie asking a question you know an answer to, jump in and help. If I were to count all your posts since December, you'd have about 6-7 posts per month.. that's 1, max 2 per week! How do you expect merits to come when you don't even post much at all? Cheesy

Good luck m8, but I really suggest you to spend more time here if you want to receive some merit Tongue
518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Arguing that a coin with a very low energy usage or "efficient", cannot exist on: May 16, 2021, 06:44:13 PM
I feel like only that percent would shut media and critics up.
It might, but they'll find something else to complain about. Like mining fees.

The average Joe has no idea about all this stuff mainstream media talks about, so they take their words for granted. The media has this strong advantage that they can manipulate easily, especially these days.
519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Arguing that a coin with a very low energy usage or "efficient", cannot exist on: May 16, 2021, 02:43:36 PM
I'd be curious to know how much pollution and energy consumption all financial institutions and the worldwide money printing machines create. I'm quite sure they're much, much higher than the one that comes from BTC mining, but we cannot pretend that there aren't other systems that are more energy-efficient than Bitcoin's.. although at the expense of other stuff such as security, which is perhaps more important than energy consumption is! Proof-of-Stake is an option but it's in more of a testing ground right now. Bitcoin is more solid than ever before and it's been 13 years since its inception. If PoS works well enough, Bitcoin will move to it. It's not like we want to pollute the air and use as much energy as possible. It's just that we want security as well, not just an eco-friendly environment..
520  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: What do you do with the Hardware Wallet Box? on: May 16, 2021, 11:07:55 AM
I still keep my boxes around, just in case I ever want to sell them years later as collectibles. It's indeed a bad idea to keep such items somewhere visible. If I wanted to get rid of my box, I would burn it.

imo, fire is still the best option... but then, I'm something of a pyromaniac Tongue
I turned into one as well ever since I started burning all my previous seeds and crypto-related or other sensitive documents. It's the cheapest and the most fun way to get rid of them to be honest, lol.
