321  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: OneCoin Relaunch - Ruja Ignatova DeepFake! on: August 02, 2021, 03:55:10 PM
Thanks a lot for the video, I think it's of a great importance to warn users about its appearance. I feel like the OneCoin scam hasn't been exposed well enough around the internet and I somehow feel responsible to expose it or any reappearance of it no matter in what form. I even translated it to my local board for those who speak my language to notice it.
322  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: India government launch e-Rupi, it's good for india? on: August 02, 2021, 02:01:34 PM
I personally don't think the launch of digital fiat currencies has anything to do with the acceptance of crypto. Might be just me though.

They care about launching a digital coin to draw attention away from crypto. Do people really think governments will create a scarce, decentralized crypto with an actual future? The only future CBDCs will have is one of surveillance and full control.
323  Local / Altcoins (Monede Alternative) / Relansarea OneCoin - DeepFake cu Ruja Ignatova! on: August 02, 2021, 01:41:17 PM
Thread tradus din limba engleza. Link catre thread-ul original: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5352140.0

324  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we in 2017 again? How do you feel about the price chart today? on: August 02, 2021, 12:49:25 AM
I think, we could, we might, the price would ... it's all nonsense if you think about it. Even if the majority of us say the price should be much more than it currently is, our opinion is worth about nothing in the end. The market still moves according to the news, the new investors' moves, whales and so on.

You're on a Bitcoin forum anyway, so expect the majority of the answers to be positive. Bitcoin is still early, it might very well still be very cheap as well. A move from $40k to $400k might seem very hard, but it might turn out to be as easy, if not easier, than the move from $6k to $60k was. The secret word is might. Things are uncertain, the market is volatile.. at the end of the day, Bitcoin just moves in whichever direction it wants to.
325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will blockchain networks with zero incentives survive in the long term? on: August 01, 2021, 10:06:54 PM
I think we have two issues we'd be facing by incentivizing nodes. One would be that someone will obviously try to run thousands if not millions of servers (which are nowadays accessible within a few clicks, especially Amazon cloud servers..) which would in turn make them earn a ton of money. The other issue would be that incentivizing everything makes it in the end an unsustainable economy.

We can clearly see on this forum what incentivizing for everyone means, especially since the appearance of bounties. Many, if not most users of this forum only access it due to the money they earn from it. Otherwise, the forum would be an empty place - which I really wouldn't mind since those who remain would be the legitimately interested users.

Therefore.. as much as some people want node running to be incentivized, it's hard to do it without making it unfair. Imagine for BTC how many servers Google or Amazon could run to their own benefit, which could in turn be a big risk for us and Bitcoin's security. They'd all milk the hell out of BTC and I'm afraid the network would actually need to remove its 21M supply limit in order to function like that.

Bad idea in my opinion.
326  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH adoption lately is high on: August 01, 2021, 08:24:39 PM
Could be a strategy. Purchase ETH before the fork, wait for the price to pump and just drop out. It doesn't mean ETH is getting more adopted imo. The hype is usually very high before big changes, remember SegWit.. I might be wrong of course, but I don't think there's much more than a simple money move.
327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I feel like there is no way to keep up on: August 01, 2021, 05:42:02 PM
You also did not notice at what point in time it became prestigious to own exactly 1 BTC?
I think it's always been "prestigious" to own BTC. I remember there was a thread here in which someone wanted to auction thousands of BTC for a few bucks and nobody thought it'd be worth it. This is what people still think even today..
328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I feel like there is no way to keep up on: August 01, 2021, 08:49:49 AM
That's the thing: you don't need to own a full Bitcoin. That's just a dream so many people have but it's pretty unrealistic. Remember, you can own even 1 satoshi. Nobody forces you to own a full BTC to be considered a Bitcoin investor.

Yeah, the price goes up almost constantly every few years. That doesn't make it a "problem" to begin with - in fact, there's a very good side to it if every time you buy the price goes up, lol!
329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have Bitcoin mining and market prices been de-Chinese and more decentralized? on: July 31, 2021, 05:05:05 PM
When will people understand that a country's miners having over 51% of the global hashrate does not mean China is in control of Bitcoin? A country's total mining power doesn't mean all these guys are working together. In fact, this is why there are multiple miners rather than just one.

Also, China has nothing to do with the market prices. Worst they can do is release FUD, but even that has an end all the time. I'd rather think Musk has more influence over the markets than the Chinese do..
330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin worth so much? on: July 31, 2021, 09:48:33 AM
It's scarce, so people simply consider it is worth a buy at $41k. When markets pump, the demand is so high people think it should be worth more. When the market drops, it's the opposite. Bitcoin is literally worth as much as people want it to be or think it is worth.
331  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tutorial] How To Access Bitcointalk using TOR Browser on: July 30, 2021, 11:21:58 PM
snip
It definitely sucks if you're not using the ccode to login in order to skip reCaptcha or if you have a bad connection. As long as you're patient with the little slower loading times, it's all fine though.

Something I recently keep getting is the "please turn on JavaScript" page that makes a Tor browser restart necessary. And that's likely because previous Tor users have created spam on the forum so the protection system against spam of the forum sometimes gets triggered all of a sudden.

But for the sake of my privacy, I ignore all these negative points and just keep using Tor without JS when browsing.
332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's holding back Amazon & eBay from adopting Bitcoin? on: July 30, 2021, 06:35:54 PM
I have 2 theories out of which at least one I suspect Bezos is applying:

1. Bezos hates Bitcoin. He's a billionaire, he owns a corporation and he is actively working with other corporations, governments, authorities and so on. Hence, the idea of a currency they can't overtake or heavily profit from makes them pull back from helping it grow in any way. Look at Musk, what he's done is he's promoted DOGE to his own advantage. In the end, the poor got poorer, Musk got richer, the crypto scene has lost trust in front of potentially millions due to the pump and dump and so crypto had zero benefits from his crap.

2. Bitcoin is simply not popular enough for Amazon to do business with it. Bezos follows trends for sure, but he doesn't follow small ones. Bitcoin doesn't have that many users so his move to adopt Bitcoin on his platform would probably end up the same way Steam's did back in 2014 or so when they added BTC to the payment methods.

I had a 3rd theory I apparently forgot while writing this post, lol. These are the most likely scenarios imo.
333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bye Bye Bitcoin on: July 29, 2021, 07:56:12 PM
Quote
Robert A. Manning is a senior fellow of the Brent Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security at the Atlantic Council. He was a senior counselor to the undersecretary of State for global affairs from 2001 to 2004, a member of the U.S. Department of State policy planning staff from 2004 to 2008 and on the National Intelligence Council strategic futures group from 2008 to 2012.

This explains it all. The author is drooling after a crypto ban, and even if it happens all they're gonna do is prove themselves wrong. Say everyone moved to XMR suddenly - their entire policy of banning crypto is gonna drop to the floor, lol. You can't ban the unbannable.
334  Other / Archival / Re: Near-Zero Fees in the Bitcoin Network on: July 29, 2021, 03:30:44 PM
Also, I (still) have a feeling that it's traders, trading services and trading bots who create the congestion on the mempool, not the average Joe.
Most likely. The average Joes do affect it too though, just imagine how many people started selling their BTC or purchasing goods with it every Bitcoin cycle. Even those newbies who simply nought BTC for the first time and sent it to a personal wallet. Overall, it tends to congest the network easily as long as the demand for BTC increases substantially.
335  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Bitcoin truly evolve into super-sovereign currency? on: July 29, 2021, 01:46:19 PM
Definitely an interesting read. Bitcoin might evolve into a super-sovereign currency, but I think the draconic upcoming regulations will be like a blockage of its real potential. Here is where the problems usually come up: when humans think grass shouldn't be green in the US but blue instead. Once a country doesn't agree with something, especially when it comes to systems that put them under "danger" of loss of control, they'll try to enforce rules other countries don't agree with. And since Bitcoin lives on its own, all by itself with no need of change of rules, there will always be a problem with Bitcoin's evolution.
336  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FINU (Fire Inu) on: July 28, 2021, 02:55:10 PM
One starts the trend, the sheep follow. Since this year's DOGE craze, everyone went nuts.. literally. It's like they are so desperate there's no more common sense.

All these shitcoins are pure crap and nonsense. Besides seasonal pumps that are not guaranteed, there isn't much to see or care about. These coins are alive only 1 month out of 2 years, at most. Nothing can promise you a fortune with no investment, this is yet another "get rich quick" scheme that won't work.
337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 'Gold in the Hand', versus 'Chinese Bitcoin' in the Bush - What has REAL Value? on: July 28, 2021, 11:13:38 AM
The tangible will exist, the bitcoin derived from a 20 year old NSA crypto called SHA256 has a limited shelf-life before hacked;  Within the next 5 years BTC will be kaput.
The Bitcoin as we know it.. maybe. Why would we ignore the fact that it's open source though? Solutions in the open-source world exist for almost anything, including this theory that you're trying to propagate. Even if Bitcoin as we know it ceases to exist, there will come another version of it that will not be defunct anymore.

If you hate on BTC that much, why even bother wasting your time here?
338  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tutorial] How To Access Bitcointalk using TOR Browser on: July 28, 2021, 09:33:48 AM
Bookmark the login code page and switch your security to Safest. Javascript has lots of flaws and if securing your real identity is your goal, this is one good tip to follow. By switching to Safest, scripts won't work no more.. preserving your identity better at the expense of comfort.
339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Amazon Puts Down Bitcoin Use Rumor on: July 27, 2021, 05:35:06 PM
Great then. The less corporations coming in the Bitcoin world before it becoming mainstream, the better. No need for corps to join us, Bitcoin does a tremendous job all by itself.
340  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Pegasus & phone wallets on: July 27, 2021, 09:31:21 AM
If you're afraid of the Pegasus wallet, I personally think you should be first afraid of the big corporations who already know much more information about you than you may imagine.

Systems in general have weak points, there will always be vulnerabilities one can exploit. Storing your bucks on a hot wallet is already known as an unsafe bet, and there are alternatives even to these kind of phone exploits. For example, you could buy the cheapest smartphone you can get and use it as a cold wallet of the family. Unless you play with its system by rooting it and flashing custom ROMs, as long as you keep it constantly offline (although devices with WiFi, GSM and Bluetooth modules are never truly offline...) you should be fine.

But again, the change should start from the roots. Linux instead of Windows. Verify executables before actuallyexecuting them. DuckDuckGo or Microsia instead of Google. And so on..
