181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JEWELS- Currency backed by an existent MMORPG. ICO starts today. PLAY NOW on: July 20, 2016, 01:50:16 AM
I just saw that Jewels got talked about in the blockchain dynamics radio show.
I dont think they understand the coin or project though.
Here, have a listen.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1379730.msg15620724#msg15620724

I've had a chance to listen to Blockchain Dynamics and we'd like to offer an answer as why we shouldn't be written off as just another gaming coin.

Open Source Based Games
Some gaming coins are intended to be driven by open-source based games. An example of this may be running a custom Counter Strike: Global Operative ("CS:GO") server that rewards a player in a cryptocurrency. The problem with this model is that typically the space shared here overlaps with other servers and communities that are typically far more well established. This prevents the coin from truely being adopted by the immediate audience of these games unless they offer something new or innovative other than just rewarding players for playing these games.

Faucet Based Gaming
Other coins may offer a faucet based service. Unlike the open source approach this means you can play on a regular game server and be rewarded for your playing. Typically, what this means (using CS:GO as an example again) is that a player can play a competitive mode on the "official" game and receive reward for attaching their account to the coins system. The inherent problem with this is it is not profitable for gamers and the only useful aspect of this model is "free" advertisement. Typically, a player will receive a neglible amount of financial compensation for their hours spent on the game (far less than working a minimum wage job in the United States).

While some indiivduals in Bitcointalk may feel it's "super cool and awesome" to be paid a cryptocurrency for simply playing their favorite game, this model cannot be only driving factor for adoption of a coin because gamers (typically ranging from teens to young adults) will see it for what it is - an insignificant amount of money and ignore it.

Raise funds, develop the game after
This is an understandable approach. Game development isn't cheap, so it's only natural that you need a large fund to hire people for certain jobs; After all that is why we're raising money (primarily for Project Rebirth). The unfortunate side to this is that game development while also being expensive is slow. Essentially, that means depending on the complexity of the game investors are stuck with a fairly stagnant investment until the game they invested into comes to fruition as until this point is reached there is a lack of identifiable use-cases for the coin. Stagnation can easily be anywhere around an entire year before the game even is in some form of open-beta where investors can actually try it out let alone actually start receiving a return of interest or utilize their coin investment.

Us
Given the points above, we are most closest to the last point. The difference is, we are not launching empty handed. There will be identifable use cases for Jewels immediately following the conclusion of our sale. The inherent struggle any game will face is developing an active player base, fortunately we've also already tackled this problem with our existing infrastructure.

We want to stress Jewels is not only for Apex and Heroes! We will be releasing mini-games that are gambling related as well as other small games that can stand alone independantly and be played through your browser or mobile (Android / iOS) devices.

We'll be contacting them directly and seeing if we can be on their show as we'd love to talk to them more about our project.

I don't see exchange mentioned anywhere in the roadmap. I do hope it is your intentions to list them on exchanges. Do you have any in mind? Have you contacted any? Most exchanges won't list just any coin that is proposed to them. You can probably get it listed on Yobit but that market is primarily for trading shitcoins.

Perhaps the escrow is a false sense of security, but more people are going to be more comfortable with sending money to a reputable member of this forum over some streamer without much activity within the community. More money invested = more profits for investors.

Use cases are definitely a positive, and the major reason why I like to invest in videogame cryptos. They don't set out to change the world but they actually server a purpose, regardless of how niche it is.

The road map was intended to mainly highlight benchmarks in terms of (programming based) development. I'll look to have the road map broadened with other intentions other than those just specifically related to programming. Thanks Smiley.

As for which exchanges we'll be listed on, we will probably get a listing on Yobit due to its ease however it is also in our intentions to get a listing on Bittrex as from our research they are a more trusted and well established exchange. We intend to be entirely transparent with them and don't mind the 3 BTC fee. We see no problem with their CFC compliance standards which requests having a proof of developer done and disclosing the full name and location of a member of the coin development team. After a listing on Bittrex, we will eventually seek a listing on Poloniex as we become more established. As Jewels is an integral aspect of our project we want people to have accessibility to Jewels in as many places and ways as possible.

Given our transparency as it stands we are still open to feedback about using an escrow as we have stated if enough people feel strongly about this we will seek to get one however as no sufficient reasoning has been provided we currently see no reason to do so. We feel research is an important tool investors should using, simply having an escrow and seeing "Hero Member" or "Legendary Member" should not be reason enough people wildly throw their bitcoin at the project. We highly recommend investors take the time to research Pro4Never and take a look at some of the open-source projects he's been involved in in the past and other projects he's worked in prior to Jewels.

I want to invest in this project, I really do. But it's clear this is more geared towards people buying this coin to actually use it, rather than just buy and sell. No escrow, no reputable members, no plans on listing it in an exchange. I buy virtually every video game crypto out there and I'd love to buy this one too, but I just can't at this point in time.

The coin will have use cases that address people who have no interest in playing MMOs such as our gambling based platform that will be available as a standalone in the web browser in the near future. I don't quite understand what you mean by no plans on listing it on an exchange since we mention in almost every section that people will be able to buy Jewels off of exchanges. We'll be contacting exchanges nearing the end of the sale.

Based on no escrow I assume you are for using an escrow. Our reputation is on the line as we've been around for over a year and Pro4never is a well known individual in other communities as well as being very open about his real life identity for this project. Can you explain what you feel would be the benefits of using an escrow because from my research I can cite examples of where using an escrow serves absolutely no purpose other than giving people a false sense of security.

Thanks for your feed back and looking forward to your reply!

Thanks!

We cant tell you because we dont know. It depends on how much has been invested. Once the ICO is complete we'll be able to get a cost per coin.

yeah you're damn right. better not to hide the real identity

Who is Pro4Never?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pg-z5ad0iGw (Video)

Hello, I’m Pro4Never (Chris Cook). I’m the owner and lead programmer behind Apex Conquer. I’ve been involved in the game server community for over a decade with my primary focus having been on implementing the best possible content for my players and setting my projects apart through professional player support, consistent releases of new content, updates and bug fixes.

The Pro4Never tag has stuck with me throughout my programming projects, as a gamer tag and as a livestream I hosted for over a year. In the gaming community Apex Conquer one of my projects which has acquired a strong reputation built on reliability and my interest in making sure that the content we release is stuff never before seen in similar games. I also have a long history of moderating on the ElitePVPers website, one of the largest independent gaming forums with over 6 million members.

In the past I’ve released a number of open source game servers, done freelance programming work for other developers and done many years of tech support for various clients. The past year and a half I’ve spent developing and maintaining Apex Conquer. I’ve been able to turn the project into my full time job as well as growing the scope of the project to include 3 different server projects. Later this summer we plan to launch our biggest server yet which is where this Jewels project will be best utilized.
Huh

Do the coins give any sort of profit share, or are they just coins that are usable in the game?

I wouldn't call it a profit share as it does not work off a percentage or any way similar to a profit share stock. Jewels will be usable in game on Apex and Heroes and on various other mini gambling games which will be plugged into games as well as offered as standalone in the browser.

However in one section we do state,
Quote
Paypal will be used as a proxy for purchasing Jewels off the market. As the reserve of Jewels for paypal purchases depletes funds received via Paypal will be used to purchase bitcoin used to purchase Jewels from the exchanges thereby adding liquidity to the market.

As the Jewels platform grows we intend to increase our use cases by form partnerships with other games and organizations to use Jewels as a means to an online currency that can be used both in and out of games.

Updated OP with a link to the ICO tracker page which will make it easy to keep track of how much has been raised so far! We'll be adding a count down timer later on to this page.

Do you not consider to use any reputable escrow? Hard for get fund without escrow
Investor dont want risk their money on new coin

You know who we are, you've seen our past work and so you know the product is real in fact we'd love it if you even tried it out and offered us feedback on your experience!

I don't quite understand the need for an escrow for this project given all our transparency. I feel like this is a phenomenon similar to the prejudice shown towards a newbie account. What purpose does an escrow serve if the only requirement is usually the launch of the network? Even scams can provide you with this much. The current state of Waves is an example of this (not to say Waves is a scam). People overall seem upset in the thread that there is a lack of communication and transparency between the team and investors yet their escrow has already released all the funds to them since the network has launched and the coin cam be traded.

If the community feels strongly about using an escrow, we will take it into consideration.

Quick question. Once the Heroes game is launched do you think the numbers will grow. Your max income was 12k a month so is it expected to be more after the launch?

Not immediately, but we do expect that Heroes will begin to attract a new set of players to our community. As our servers grow in size (players) it natural that the amount of paying customers will also increase as players tend to put money into especially if they are enjoying their overall experience.

One of our largest PvP events is Cross Server Guild Wars and we hope to offer more events like this following the release of Heroes:

Heroes also will be tailoring towards those who prefer solo-type environments like 1-on-1 arena matches:

And for all the poker lovers out there, Heroes will have Texas Holdem directly integrated!

One of our users prior to our Bitcointalk launch who is a user of Bitcointalk reached out to us asking us if we wanted some graphics created for our thread. We were interested in seeing what he could produce so we asked him to show us some. The designs he showed us were not appealing so we never payed and now it is apparent that he subcontracted this work out to another user.

We did not expect him to subcontract as we thought he would be producing them himself, so we apologize for any troubles he may have caused.

It's not pay to win in the slightest. The ability to spend money on a game to purchase visual changes that don't affect the power balance completely fits the free to play model. For example, League of Legends which sells skins (cosmetics; exactly the same concept) is not pay to win.

Any game that has items that can be obtained through cash purchase is p2p. pay 2 win does not have to be something that gives you an advantage. pay 2 win is any item that is obtainable by purchasing with real money only.

Not everyone plays games to kill people/build stuff/run around. Some people play games for what they can customize on there character etc. So adding cash only visual items makes it pay 2 win for someone who plays for the cool customization's.

Any game that allows an item to be purchased for real world money is pay 2 win.

While you're entitled to your own opinion, let me clarify some standard terms used in the gaming communities.

p2p: Refers to peer to peer interactions
Pay to win: Refers to an element in the game that allows you to buy gear or equipment which allows your items/character better than others making gameplay largely unbalanced for people who have skill, but do not pay.

By these definitions a game such as League of Legends (and Apex) is not considered pay to win. However as previously stated, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however I'd urge you to try the game yourself without spending a dime and you'll quickly realize just from playing the game, or conversing with players skill is a large factor in how good you are at the game not how much money you've dumped into it.

newbie account again and ico on icostart?
No !!!
The age of an account doesn't govern the success of a project, the people behind it does. I'm going to assume you didn't click any links or even read anything pertaining to Chris, did you?

Dude...a currency backed by a private conquer server?  That doesn't even make sense...how is it 'backed' by a modified ten-year-old MMO that you're paying to host?  Not to mention the fact it says 'not pay2win' on the site  Huh
It is backed by the game since it will be used by the game as well as other games developed by Chris's brand. It's not pay to win in the slightest. The ability to spend money on a game to purchase visual changes that don't affect the power balance completely fits the free to play model. For example, League of Legends which sells skins (cosmetics; exactly the same concept) is not pay to win.

I feel like you're failing to understand another aspect of this. It's not like Chris downloaded some arbitrary source code of the internet, he has written everything himself from ground zero and proven himself to be an amazing coder. Apex is over 60,000 lines written entirely by Chris himself and others that worked with him directly on his project.

hi, i noticed it says

Winter 2017 (Q1)
Project Rebirth
Official project development starts

so anything you collect during july-aug crowdfund will not be used till then?
so you plan on releasing a token a.k.a "jewels" a coin, during that time for traders to speculate in your company/idea?
just asking so im clear as an investor what i would get to play with while you grow the idea Wink

Not quite. There will be on going development from now as well into 2017 on Apex and Heroes. This means there are on going costs and since Jewels will effectively be replacing the current method of buying in game content. Money raised from Jewels will be used for things such as server costs and current development.

We're not simply asking you to speculate about our potential. When the ICO ends we will have Jewels integrated into Apex which means the ability to purchase in game content, items, features via Jewels and we will begin working on our gambling implementations shortly after as per the road map.

please check your inbox dev
We'll be releasing a bounty list later, so follow the thread until then.

Why not use your real account? You will have more success with a real account than a proxy account.

We are relatively new here at Bitcointalk, so unfortunately we do not have a more aged account. I am acting as a public relations manager for Chris (pro4never) and he'll be changing the "Who is Pro4Never" section into a Vlog later tomorrow.

While we are new on Bitcointalk, we are not new to using digital currencies as  I personally have been using Bitcoin for several years and Chris has experience with digital currencies via being an early Doge supporter. We easily see the huge potential for a digital currency that can be used outside of our game as it benefits both the crypto community and our community as well.

While our Bitcointalk account is not aged, please check out Apex, as well as Chris's elitepvpers profile which have been around for quite some time. Please remember, the game is already online so give it a try and have fun Smiley

Jewels Introduction
Jewels (“JWL”) is a virtual currency that will be used throughout the “Pro4Never Network” as it grows. It’s primary value will stem from bitcoin backing and US Dollars.  We would like to stress Jewels will be usable throughout several games that we are developing. Currently, it’s primary use case will be in that of Conquer Heroes a game that has been created by Pro4Never.

Jewels in Conquer Heroes have a few use cases such as:
  • Gambling with Jewels vs House
    • Slots, Dice, Blackjack, etc.
  • In game p2p gambling
  • Used to purchase products in game
    • Items
    • Content
    • Features
    • Visual Cosmetics (designs, customization, etc)
    • Tradable for in game currency (p2p trading)

Jewels can be purchased via bitcoin on the exchanges or through Paypal (See “Paypal Jewels & Maturity”). Since there is a use-case for Jewels in Heroes, there will always be a demand hence the market will always have some form of liquidity backing it as users seek to acquire Jewels to use in game. However, there will be other use cases for Jewels in the near future (see “Development”) and because of this we expect the demand for Jewels to increase in time while the supply remains fairly consistent.

Paypal Jewels & Maturity
There will be a reserved amount of Jewels to be sold via Paypal as this is the most common means of purchase that players are most familiar with. The price of Jewels in USD will be derived from the two markets JWL/USD = JWL/BTC * BTC/USD.

Paypal will be used as a proxy for purchasing Jewels off the market. As the reserve of Jewels for paypal purchases depletes funds received via Paypal will be used to purchase bitcoin used to purchase Jewels from the exchanges thereby adding liquidity to the market.

When Paypal is used to buy Jewels, the Jewels will be added to the user’s account on-site and in game, however these Jewels will be considered “immature” meaning they cannot be traded or withdrawn from the site for 45 days, however can be used in-game (Heroes) to purchase items usable on your character.

The reason for this maturity system is due to the fact money can be refunded on Paypal thus leaving us open to “giving away free money.” As your account builds a more accredited history with the “Pro4Never Network” the duration on Paypal Jewels maturity will be decreased to more lenient values.

Any Jewels purchased via bitcoin are always considered mature since bitcoin and blockchain transactions are irreversible.

What is Conquer Heroes?

Conquer Heroes is a game based off a Chinese Fantasy Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (“MMORPG”) and is entirely free to play (“F2P”). It is an old-school styled game similar to that of Diablo 2 is its visuals, themes and game play feel. The game is focused on player vs. player interaction where players compete via combat to prove who is the best in game as well as improve their characters as they progress further in terms of leveling up and increasing the strengths and defenses of said characters. As this is a player vs. player driven game, items can be achieved through the interaction of killing other players in game (“PKing”).

Heroes can be seen as an expansion with over a dozen unique in game player vs player events. The player based is very familiar and accepting of random-number-generated based games. That is luck based games such as slots, raffle draws, etc. which shows promise for a large overlap in the bitcoin world of provably fair gambling.

The Beyond Bitcoin Hangout (9/30/2016) covers our first set of discussions about our successful launch of Heroes and plans going forward.

Project Rebirth Development

Project Rebirth will be an entirely new game built from ground up and we are in the process of assembling a team of skilled individuals to create this new game from scratch. Pro4Never has already shown expertise in the field of game creation and marketing hence Project Rebirth was an inevitable goal.

The most difficult part to developing any game is having a robust client allowing the game to give birth to a beautiful surreal world where a player can become immersed in it. There are a few positions we are looking to hire for and while an individual is not restricted to doing one job we should stress taking time constraints into consideration. We are looking for: Unity developers, 3d modelers, 2d texture designers and front end web designers. If you're interested in applying send an email to admin@jewelsproject.com to apply!

Key points of fund usage: Expansion, advertisement, development, assets/art, web development (gambling, website changes, etc), client development, server development, various tools to simply work (i.e. map editor and other client development tools).
