I missed it, can you give us some notes on how it went and what was covered? Was it better then the blockchain dynamics radio show, I hope so because that one sucked and the hosts were the furthest thing from on the ball. And congrats on hitting 50 btc, its now 25% funded and most money tends to come in at the end, hopefully this is no different and it gets fully funded on day zero.

We feel that it over all went better then the Blockchain Dynamics show because it was far more engaging with people asking questions in real time as well as followup functions and not just Chris essentially talking to himself.

We're now actually just shy of 57 BTC so we're on the right track towards meeting our goal!

Gambling
Have you checked what are the regulations regarding gambling in your country?
If your country has gambling regulations, it wouldn't be a good idea to host the gambling aspect of the game on servers under your company's responsibility.
There is an easy way around though: Ethereum smart contracts. If you have the gambling process run as a smart contract on Ethereum, it's not anymore under your responsibility but that of the network at large that is to say everyone and no one, but you can still get a cut from "the house"'s proceeds as a "shareholder" of the smart contract. For that to work best, I would recommend to implement Jewels as an Ethereum based tokens. You could also sell "The House" tokens if you want to share the costs, risks and rewards of running the gambling smart contracts.

The gambling/jewels projects will be contained separately from the server projects. This is both for legal reasons regarding gambling and also to keep the jewels project insulated if there were ever any issues with the private servers coming under fire. The company that created conquer online has not done anything to private servers in a decade but it's better to be safe than sorry.

You haven't answered the legal aspect of the question. Is gambling regulated in the country where you are operating? If it is and you need a gambling license, are you planning on applying for a gambling license (that usually costs a lot and takes months or sometimes years to approve). If it is regulated, and you are not planning to follow the regulation, you are going to be doing illegal gambling, which means that sooner or later if the business grows you'll get shutdown, and probably get a lot of legal trouble. In some countries, transgressors to gambling regulation can do a jail time. Luckily, you can just get rid of the problem entirely by using smart contracts. That's the reason prediction market site InTrade was busted for illegal gambling, but Augur can't be busted because it's not running in any specific jurisdiction.

Understanding how well you thought that one through is key to determining if your business is sustainable. If you get regulators on your back and are forced to shutdown due to breach of gambling regulation, this will jeopardize the project and our investment.

A gambling license is not needed given the current scope of our project. We are not offering direct fiat gambling and many games do this as well. Many games offer some way of gambling a bought currency in ways that are not even provably fair. To use Conquer Online as a primary example, they often hold events where you can buy "Demon Boxes" which summons a monster that when killed has a chance to double, triple, or even insane payouts like 100x the amount you used to buy the item. Such games do not require a gambling license either but to take this a step further Conquer Online also has built in poker into its native UI (as seen in the screenshots we've posted) which allows you to gamble in both currencies (Gold and the premium currency of the official game 'Conquer Points').

Allow me to further expand upon this point that sites like Counter Strike: GO Lounge and other Steam based raffle websites don't require gambling licenses either because they deal with commodities.

We do not normally allow people to sell their in-game items for real world currencies (because it competes with our own revenues) but with a jewel system you would simply sell your in-game items for packs of jewels which you could then sell on any exchange to cash out to fiat currency.
So basically you will now be allowing in-game items to be sold for real world currencies using Jewels as an intermediary step.
How is that not competing with you own revenues?

Because of this, the game will attract a much larger sub-audience of those who are trying to farm in-game items for cash. While at first glance this may sound like a bad thing, it's really not.
How do you avoid botting? There are already bots for Conquer Online. How do you prevent users adapting them to farm items and in-game currency on Apex, making the price of in-game item drop and sparking massive inflation of the in-game currency?

This creates a higher demand for the jewels because not only can they be used on non pay2win elements (cosmetics) but now they can be used to purchase actual in game items and bonuses but it is done as peer2peer and therefor does not reflect poorly on the servers balance.
If you allow players to sell items that give an advantage in-game, like weapons, you are basically allowing Pay2Win. It's not Pay2Win between the players and you, but Pay2Win between players. A new player can basically come and buy $100 worth of Jewels, buy XP boosts and equip himself with topnotch equipment, and outperform players who have been playing for a while. I'm not saying that's necessarily a problem, Diablo 3 has been doing that for a while with the Real Money Auction House, but let's call a spade a spade.

It's hard to enforce this. Look at any game and there is a black market for in game items and currency, WoW gold, Runescape gold, etc. you name it.  This is competitive with our own revenues, but regardless of whether we allow it or not people will do it.

With Jewels (a currency that essentially has a cash value because it can be traded BTC to fiat) we can encourage players that if they want to sell their items for real world "value" they do this through Jewels on our platform and let us escrow the trades for them. This greatly reduces the risk of both parties as we act as an automated escrow service between the two parties as well as allows us to profit from these sorts of trades as we can take an escrow fee.

Will some players still try to circumvent this purpose by still selling directly for USD? Yes probably and we can discourage this, but most players we expect would rather not take that risk if they don't have to. NCSoft's Blade and Soul recently takes a similar approach where you can purchase Hongmoon coins (their cash currency) and sell them to other players for gold the same way you would sell say BTC/USD. Of course there are still players who go the route of buying gold directly from gold farmers rather then supporting the actual game itself but those who do so greatly put themselves at risk for bans and scamming Smiley

I'm not the right person to answer the question about botting and cheat so I'll leave that for Chris to tackle.

Regardless of whether you consider direct trading between users to be "Pay2Win" there's no way of stopping it or preventing it. Take your pick at any MMO you can name that allows trading between players items that have stat based values, do you consider them p2w because there exist black markets where if a player wanted and intended to dump cash into the game and get immediate benefits? This is another topic that I feel Chris can expand upon much better than myself.

Edit: On a personal note, I don't think the idea of being able to spend cash on a game is bad thing. Where it becomes a bad thing is when you can spend so much cash on a game that a player who is "skillful" at the game has no chance of ever beating someone who is unskillful because they've dumped a lot of cash into their character/equipment. This is most evident giving the current state of the official Conquer Online. We know it is important to recognize players who are skillful which is why we offer plenty of PvP events that do not factor in a players gear/stats but rather strictly focus on their PvP mechanics.

That Ninja class sounds bad ass. Will you be adding more classes to Heroes as time progresses? Also, do these classes use the same resource that Warrior uses? Not sure what it's called but I noticed some of the skills a warrior can learn consumes the teal bar in the middle of your health.

That center bar is stamina. It is used by all classes for certain skills. Ninjas use stamina for all of their skills.


We plan to focus on additional content through re-designing under utilized content rather than adding fresh classes. A good example would be weapon variety. There is a dozen or so different types of weapons (swords, blades, axes, hammers, hooks, clubs, etcetc) and only a handful of them are actually used. Our first major expansion pack will take some of these weapons and give them new skills and mechanics to make them more interesting. That also serves as a way for us to expand on classes that feel a bit underwhelming for players based on the previous few months of gameplay.

For example if 4-6 months from now archers feel a bit stale (they have always been more of a player vs monster class) then giving them some new skills based around an existing under-utilized weapon would be a great way to make the class more exciting and at the same time leverage existing client assets to save on development time.


Yes ninja class have no future in this game but if they add some skill like invincibility or comoflage Im think they have a good and have a bright future in this game.We know ninja can hide and attack that you didn't sense it.

Based on how the class worked in the original conquer online and based on our testing, they are a very powerful class. They can be thought of as a counter to ranged classes like archers and taoists due to their very quick damage. Where they run into issues is when they can't quickly kill a target in a hit or two (such as when vs a warrior). At that point they need to wait for a weakness by working with allies or by repeatedly applying poisons until the target is weak enough to take down.

Lets break things down as it seems you may not have read the full OP (it's long I'll grant you that).


Apex has been online and been my full time job for 18+ months - Conquer Online (the game it's emulating) has existed for well over a decade. There is no development funds needed for that project and it is an existing and established game where jewels will be used as an immediate first use case (built in demand for the currency).


Heroes is a much more modern version of the same game (conquer online) and will be launching within a week of the ICO ending. There is no development funds needed for that project and it has been in development/testing for around 8 months.

Jewels Gambling is what the funds raised will be used for. These will be a series of provably fair crypto gambling games which will be available separately from our private server projects as well as being embedded in the existing client. These gambling games will therefor have an immediate audience of thousands of users as well as the very large potential for future growth by partnering with other servers, other games, other gambling websites in order to have our games added to their offerings.

The remaining dev funds will be put towards phase 1 of developing our own MMO. We have many years of experience developing stable and popular server projects as well as developing unique content for players. We want to push those skills to the next level by developing our own game from the ground up. Yes, it will be inspired by many of the concepts from Conquer Online that we like best but it will NOT be a clone, it will be our own game developed from scratch with modern gaming in mind.



The amount of funds we raise determines how many gambling games we can create, how quickly they will be ready for users and how complex they can be. Simple things like dice games and slot machines require relatively little in regards to development (a couple artists and a developer or two) but if we're going to expand to much more complex projects like multi player blackjack, roulette and more then that requires a LOT more in terms of programming, art (3d models, textures, effects) and sounds.

The gambling projects are our priority when it comes to this ICO as it's where funds can be best utilized to grow the coin past simply being a premium crypto used in a number of existing games. Having them immediately in use is a huge benefit, don't get me wrong but it's not something that can scale exponentially. Heroes/Apex has no use for external funding and that's nothing to do with what this ICO is about, it's simply the first and most accessible use case for the coin and a demonstration of my past experience as a developer.

Wow, thanks for this super detailed response. However, you gave me another question when you mentioned all the weapons. So right now I notice that what it comes down to is Warriors can use shields, Archers can use bows, and Taoists use backswords. What weapons will these monks and ninjas use and will they be able to use a variety of messages like the Trojans and Warriors can?

Monks use beads which are pretty exclusive to their class. Ninjas use Katanas however, some niche ninja builds involve using other weapons similar to that of the Trojan as Ninjas can dual wield but don't have nearly as much HP or tank-stats like a Trojan.

It should be noted that we are also seeking means of investment capital outside of Bitcoin Talk as well as negotiating private deals. Discussions regarding private deals and partnerships which will not affect the Jewels ICO or distribution. Strictly speaking, we are looking to have a starting capital of $120,000 or more which will come from the ICO as well as outside investors.

Can you tell us more about that? Are you creating a company and selling equity? Will this be a game studio? Based in which country?

Given the fact Apex has been around for 2 years prior to posting on BitcoinTalk that's a strange prediction to make however you're more than entitled to whatever opinions you want to hold Smiley

I also take it you didn't read the OP given if you did you would know the funds being raised isn't to primarily focus on developing Apex/Heroes.

Created my own account to try the game but no longer works for wife or myself. When the game is started and we enter our login details and click enter it clicks then just sits @ that same screen (no matter how long you wait). esc still brings up the exit dialog so not sure whats up.

It's possible that the an anti-virus is blocking the hook in the client which allows you to connect to our servers. Are you using one and if so can you try it after disabling it? Also what server are you trying to log into? There was a patch for Heroes released today and Heroes being in public beta is not yet online 24/7

Pretty sure im just having a compat issue. Well after a little poking around on the pc its a compat issue with also win 8 hiding the inet connect pref for the prog from me :p

But on a side note would it be possible to add a magnet download for both apex and heroes? (you have highspeed & lowspeed but theres a lot of us that like to go through tor. Better speed etc)

I'm a little confused.. probably because I'm not that high level yet but when you rebirth you said it lets you change classes so does that mean you get to keep all the skills from the previous class? That sounds pretty crazy. What is the purpose of reincarnating if you don't get extra stats?

Reincarnating drops your 'first' class.

Example: Trojan-Trojan-Trojan reincarnates as an archer, they are now Trojan-Trojan-Archer with the appropriate skills... They could then re-incarnate again as archer and would be Trojan-Archer-Archer.

It lets you completely re-build your character's skill tree without having to make a completely new one. It requires a special item to be reincarnated which can be obtained by spending jewels or using points earned in-game (from horse racing or from pvp events).


When reborning you only keep a few special skills. For example trojans have an XP skill called cyclone. When activated the character moves and attacks faster. That skill is kept regardless of what class they reborn too so you could then have an archer with that skill (very useful for hunting monsters due to the increased movespeed).

Alternatively if you plan to keep the same class, you unlock bonus 'pure' skills. Warrior-Warrior-Warrior for example gains a skill that allows them to use a shield and 2h weapon at the same time.

Hey dev, is there somewhere I can read about all the classes skills and which ones you keep on your site? Do you have any recommendations for us newer players?

Will leave it to Pro4Never to link you to the references about skills and classes, however as for recommendation it depends really on what you want your end class or play style to be. Once you know your end class there are some favorable paths that people tend to go for example if you want to end Trojan most people tend to go Water-Warrior-Trojan. Warrior is a very common middle rebirth class because of how strong the skill "Reflect" is which is a random chance to negate incoming damage. To sum it up for you

Trojans - are high dps beserkers
Warriors - are sort of like bruisers (decent damage, but more tanky then trojans)
Archers - are utility based (stun locking / cc)
Water Taoists - are utility / support mages
Fire Taoists - are ranged mages with a consistent damage out put

Hello everyone.   Roll Eyes

My name is fuzzy from Beyond Bitcoin am an advocate of both gaming and blockchain technology.  Gaming communities like mmos are something that have captivated my life for 15 years now and blockchain technology has done the same for over 8.  Many of you here are able to shake your heads and say the same.  Many are not.  But one thing we can all say is that we wield super hero powers over our own value in ways, perhaps, that no other humans who have come before us.   And because of that we have essentially formed a guild of people who are passionate about using it to uplift and help society at large.  I guess the end boss is our own dark side...but that is another discussion.

This project has piqued my interest so it is my intention to ask you to consider RSVPing on the Beyond Bitcoin hangout to talk about Jewels.  Every crypto nerd here please consider joining us, and @thread moderators--Please consider RSVPing and asking those who support your project to upvote it.  I will certainly upvote it if people from this project's community should choose to join and represent.

My oh my so much has happened in the last 10 days. I Just got off a flight and am sitting in the smoking "cell" at the Frankfurt airport killing some time and its the first time I've been able to be on the forum in over a week. I noticed 36.577103 btc was invested so far but also noticed that the devs put a minimum amount needed for jewels to launch.  Sad

You know. I'd really be pissed off if this project never got off the ground because I see other projects that are mostly nothing but promises and they manage to "raise" 100-500-1000 btc on nothing but fake names and a promise to make something. This is already something really cool with a dev who has over a decade of history on a big gaming forum.

How could the other projects raise so much but real good project is having a hard time getting to 40.

That's really what I dont understand about this crypto space.






With that said we are nearly at 40! We're now currently sitting at 38.99 which is fairly close to $25,000 with now over 200 deposit addresses it looks like things are finally starting to pick up with just over a week left.

Almost at 34 BTC but Its not looking too good for getting fully funded. Is there a bare minimum that needs to be invested devs for this project to be considered, for example if you hit 50BTC will you still consider going forward with jewels.

Sorry I must have missed that. There isn't a minimum but of course for a reasonable time frame we have set the goal of $120,000. In the opening post, it states what actions we will take if insufficient funds are raised

Strictly speaking, we are looking to have a starting capital of $120,000 or more which will come from the ICO as well as outside investors. If at the end even after factoring in outside investments we have a budget less than $120,000 USD we will first seek to establish a new roadmap for development based on the available budget. Once we know this, we will then publish this information publicly and allow those who invested to vote weighted by their investment on whether we should proceed. If the majority votes "no" implying that they wish to be refunded then Jewels project will not proceed and we will begin the process of issuing a refund of all BTC. On the contrary, if the majority votes "yes" implying they wish to proceed despite the change in timeline which likely implies delayed schedules we will continue distribution and proceed with Jewels as intended.

So whether we move forward or not if we raise less than our intended goal will be up to the community however it is in everyone's best interest if we reach or exceed our goal Smiley

Yes!!! This seems like a very cool idea. Some of the cards in Spells of Genesis look very cool and I think it'd be even cooler to see them in another game. I'm sure some people who are into both games might even try to make characters with similar names to cards that look like the cards character! One question though to do this requires Bit crystals to be on board with your idea doesn't it?

Would like to add on top of the question asked by GamingOn how does this affect the development? Will developing these cosmetics be costly financially or timewise? If it's costing to develop these custom cosmetics where is the spending budget coming from?

Besides that I think it is not a bad idea but not one I'm particularly interested in. If I end up playing Project Rebirth, likely I wouldn't want to go through the hassle of getting the SOG asset but just buy it off another player in game because some of them look damn awesome but what can I say? I'm lazy.
At this point this is simply an idea and we're trying to see how the community feels about it. Once we have an idea of how both communities feel we'll work out some estimates if both are in favor Smiley

The idea was different than I was thinking when I visited. I like it. But what happens to the cards that are deposited?
If something like this happend we would have to have a shop for SoG cards where they are then sold for Jewels as this would help both communities and encourage the BitCrystal community to check out our SoG shop. Our own community may purchase cards from the shop simply to get the cosmetic and then redeposit the asset to us. Haven't fully thought this one out at the moment it's just an idea I'm tossing around. I'd like to see what the BitCrystals developers thoughts on the matter are.

question to generally everyone, do you have to play the game to get the benefit of the coin and vice versa, do you need to have the coin to play the game?

You don't need to play to get the benefits of the coin. Jewels will have use cases outside of Apex in the near fturue and will then eventually have use cases in Project Rebirth. There's further explaination in the opening post about this.

I have 1 additonal question Chris - how will the wallet work? Are you going to distribute coins on your website or maybe web wallet on its own or QT wallet?
Coins will be available on the website soon after we finish the ICO. There will be a downloadable wallet which you can then withdraw your coins from the site into to have stake.

I registered on Apex Conquer to test gambling and dices, but I am wondering when will Heroes server open? Will the new server start from scratch or characters transfer will be allowed?
Great to hear there are some veterans Tongue. Heroes is estimated to open at the start of September close to the end of the ICO. Heroes will be entirely from scratch, there will be no transfer from Apex. Players who were involved in the testing of Heroes will receive minor cosmetic rewards but nothing that would give them significant game play advantage over non-testers.

Hello BitCrystals community!

I had an interesting proposal that I'd love to flesh more out in terms of thought and possibilities. I am one of the team members from the Jewels project. It is our goal at the start of next year to start developing our own illustrious MMORPG which is the purpose of the Jewels crowdfund, however we have immediate use cases in our existing games - Apex Conquer (see Jewels thread).

I've had some time today to fully look over this project and it's progress and over all I quite like what I see. What is most alluring to me about this project is its beautiful art work that shows a lot of time and effort goes into crafting each card. Minor suggestion and off topic but I would love to see a lore wiki put together for Spells of Genesis if there isn't... but I digress. My idea is simple - I think it would be very cool to integrate some of the outfits from some of the characters of SoG into our upcoming game as well as our existing game. In our existing game (Apex) there are already cosmetics for customization that are fantasy oriented after all the majority of the game is fantasy oriented. There's actually already existing garments that resemble some cards such as the dark robe seen here albeit it is a bit generic Tongue.

The way I see it working is as follows - In our new Jewels web wallet we are working on developing we will offer a store for specialized cosmetics that are modeled after cards seen in the Spells of Genesis game. These cosmetics modeled after SoG cards will only be obtained by depositing the same blockchain asset associated with the card and then the player will be able to corresponding item on our game while logged in. I believe this is a positive use case for SoG cards and mutually promotes both our franchises. Here you can see some examples of cosmetics that already exist in Apex. Additionally, scrolling through our facebook you can see a few garments which are not shown in the previous link here.

Anyways, Just and idea at the moment but I would love to hear the SoG's team members as well as community's thoughts on this!

Since we seem to be on the topic of finances, I thought I'd pop in and give everyone an update that as of now we're at around 33.5 BTC which is around $20,000.00 USD so we getting closer towards our goal Smiley. Also at this time I would like to state that at the end of the ICO, we will be applying for a listing on Yobit but as a reminder we have already begun the application process of applying for a listing on Bittrex - we're just waiting for them to reply and tell us how they would like us to proceed or what other information they require. After we have launched our Slack and started to build our Jewels community, it is our next goal in terms of exchanges to seek listing on Poloniex.
