The high bidder has backed out.  In this unusual circumstance, I will accept the first posting here at the price of 2.11 as a replacement.

"Anything that is "out of my control" includes but is not limited to the following: bla-bla-bla".
"Important legal notice, you must reply to this thread in our forums to get paid." - As though investments of money it isn't enough to receive dividends.

This means he can say - "sorry guys, it was out of my control" - and mine for himself. Or, something not so obvious, but with the same result, or so.
So, please cancel all my bids - I will not make such risky investment. Sorry, if I've made some troubles for you...
I'll put money in this project later, when it will be listed on BitFunder or btct. With all theirs security checks, and when dividends will be paid at least once.

5 @ 1.91

Isn't this the second time you've bid and then cancelled a bid in a CH Avalon group auction?

yes

Is it over?

Over.  2 hours ago.  PM sent to high bidder.

20 minutes left.  Any snipers?
628  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 05, 2013, 10:53:00 PM
first - the price is at least 25% too high. these will be mass-made in only a few months time, probably by the time these are received and reshipped...

second: why would i trust you to re-ship tens of thousands of dollars in hardware, that you could make another 50K on by using yourself for a month....?

um... escrow? and these are supposedly shipping in about 2 weeks...

Just using the word "escrow" doesn't really answer the poster's question.
1. AM gets the BTC
2. Operator gets the hardware
3. Associates (buyers) hope the operator ships their units.

300 * 1.99 = approx  70,000 USD (at the moment).

The escrow agent is holding his identity as a guarantee, yet in reply#95 of this thread the operator tells us his name.  The escrow agent has since not disputed it.  A simple google search tells anybody more than they need to know.

klondike_bar has a real question that hasn't really been answered.  There is a small matter of 70k worth of goods that are not really protected by a damn thing.  I'm not claiming the operator will flee with the goods, but it has been done for a lot less.

My order in this group-buy still stands, but the question needs an answer.

EDIT: - After posting, I saw the operators post with his number et al.  Maybe that will be an answer.  Anyway, I'm sticking with my bid.

OK,

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket or anything.  I'm just trying to get it straight.

John gets 12 BTC for "assuming the risk of holding the escrowed Bitcoins".

   (Seems like a lot)

Arklan gets 6 BTC (in kind) for assembling and posting something like 50 packages.

(Seems like a hell of an hourly wage)

There is a fee of .05 BTC each to cover shipping.

(Seems low to me, but ...)

Again, nothing personal against anybody.
631  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy on: May 05, 2013, 03:50:02 PM

note that with john doing escrow, there's an additional 2% of the total fee. so, assuming we order exactly 300 and each have a .05 shipping and handling, that's 2.0808 per unit, for a total of 624.24.

I think I am missing the point of the escrow in this case.  All it is insuring is that your pass the funds to asci miner as I understand it.   It will not ensure that you actually then ship the miner on to us.  If that is the case I would rather not pay 2% for something that really adds little protection.

you have a point. no matter what we do, the miners have to be mailed to a single person, who then sends them on. that is, obviously, the nature of the group buy. hmm.

i will gladly provide any identifying information or do whatever i can to assuage any concerns on this. for example, my real (legal!) name actually IS Arklan. Arklan Uth Oslin. anything you see relating to that name on google is 99% guaranteed to be me.

the only reason i added escrow was people expressed wanting it. hmm. now i'm unsure how best to proceed here.

I was just going to post the same brain freeze.  Sending the BTC to John's address and then having him forward the BTC to Friedcat is only half the battle.  The much larger task is opening a big box and posting lots of little ones.  Not to mention the "run-away-with-the-boxes" problem.  Nothing against you arlkan, it's the same concern with any user on a forum that this set of buyers doesn't know personally.

The following shamelessly stolen from oaxaca's thread.

I resemble that!
633  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy on: May 04, 2013, 05:02:59 PM
All ASICMINER products that have been auctioned off thus far have been borderline scams at the prices they're going at. I know.. they were auctions.. but still, 75 BTC for 10Gh.. now 3 BTC for 300Mh (or however fast their chip is).

No thanks. They are just making money from suckers... people that don't understand the economics and the inevitable explosion of difficulty that will come in the next few month.

This is just a novelty IMO. No serious Bitcoin miner should pay these prices.

Quite right on one count.  These are not for serious mining.  These are ""a thousand points of light" (If I can quote George Bush the 1st).  They will help spread the gospel of bitcoin far and wide.  Imagine a hipster with his laptop in a bar with his friends, buying a round of drinks with the profits from this little USB thingy with an LED?  Priceless.  They tell all their friends.  Now multiply this little scene 10,000 times.

Easily worth 1.99 to a lot of people.  Just not serious miners.
634  Economy / Auctions / 5 BTC share of CoinHoarder's Avalon Batch 3 Group Buy 2 day or so auction on: May 03, 2013, 07:41:41 PM
Today we have an auction for a total of .69185% of CoinHoarder's Batch 3 Avalon group buy.  This represents 5 BTC (as it is known in the group).  I need the few coins for an unforeseen expense.

Group buy information:
Original Thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=157930.0
Group Forums: http://yourcoins.org/forums/index.php?forums/avalon-group-buy.2/
Each investor owns a percentage of each of the seven 4 Module ASICs that were ordered.
Monthly dividends will be pad out to each investor according to their ownership percentage.
Dividends will be paid after electricity costs, any pool fee (yet to be determined), and 3% hosting fee are taken out.
Total BTC invested in the group buy: 722.7025 BTC
595 Gh total from all Seven Avalons

The auction will last 2 days, 4 hours (or so) from the time of this OP (00:00 UTC, 5/6/2013).  This is the default forum time, so I will accept the posting timestamp.

The starting bid is 1.9 BTC per share.
The bidding increments are .01 BTC
You may bid for 1, 2, 3, 4, or all 5.
A higher number of shares at a given price beats earlier, lower bids.
If escrow is desired, I have no objection.  Probably not needed as CoinHoarder lurks here.
No PM bids will be accepted.  All bids must be in this thread.

Good Luck,
oaxaca
