1161  Economy / Economics / Re: Always ask for POD form from your bank on: July 15, 2023, 01:02:58 AM
I'd rather advise old people to choose ATM over passbook. At least with an ATM, a family member who knows the PIN could withdraw everything easily when the account owner dies.

A nice suggestions though but most at times the ATM card get expired and how would they managed to renew their cards without the original owner to signed their signature on the card renewal form otherwise the family members can't be able to access the account as well. Cheque book is something very difficult for family members to use and make withdrawal from the owners account.

If it's a checking account that is left by a dead loved one, I guess you don't have a choice but to go through the process. As for an ATM account, expiration is probably not much of a problem. ATM cards usually expire after several years. It's an unfortunate coincidence though if the expiration happens around the time of death.

Quote
Except in most cases where either the children learns the signatures of their parents to be able have access to account, this act is not encouraging the best is just either have the ATM card with them and make sure is up to date before whatever may likely happens.

I don't think forgery is a good option. Signing on behalf of a dead parent is probably illegal in all jurisdictions. Especially involving a financial document, I'd rather go through an inconvenient process than risk getting entangled in a legal problem.
1162  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: July 14, 2023, 04:09:50 AM
But yeah...  I'm rooting for Ngannou to win and get the upset.  Lol.  I think that would for sure be the most entertaining result even for boxing fans.  Everybody loves an underdog.
You will be wasting your money betting on him to win, but it is possible for him to shock down Fury in one or two first rounds.
Nobody was able to beat Fury and that wont be any MMA fighter, and I am saying this with big respect for Ngannou.
Fury is smarter fighter and that is going to win this fight, not just power of strikes.

We only have to take a look at both Fury and Ngannou's fights to tell that Ngannou has very slim chance of winning. He's got strong punches in both hands but those are very heavy hands. Can he still throw them with equal efficiency in round 4 and later rounds? I also didn't see Ngannou showing some nice dancing footwork like Fury's. And while I saw Ngannou setting up with a nice jab, how many boxing combinations does he actually have in his arsenal?

It's hard to make a good assessment of Ngannou's overall boxing skills when all of his knockout wins happened in either round 1 or 2, but in his only 2 fights that lasted for 5 rounds, we saw him badly running out of gas he could barely take a step or throw a punch. He's probably dangerous only in the first couple of rounds. But I can see Fury easily surviving, and probably outscoring, Francis in those two rounds.
1163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Understanding Bitcoin's Potential Realistically on: July 14, 2023, 02:48:54 AM
The reality is that Bitcoin isn't the only thing that counts. Even if Bitcoin becomes the only legal tender in every country in the whole world, I can say with 100% certainty that there will still be poverty and wars and all kinds of evil. Even if all fiat currencies are gone and Bitcoin becomes the global reserve currency and even the only currency the world knows, I'm 100% sure that inequality and discrimination and hatred and greed remain.

Some Bitcoin supporters speak of Bitcoin as if it's something that controls human conduct and character. Far from it. Bitcoin is simply a tool, a tool for everybody; pedophiles, environmentalists, restaurant owners, human rights advocates, artists, meth dealers, and so on.
1164  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Having Difficulties Withdrawing Funds From Crypto Website. on: July 14, 2023, 02:03:49 AM
OP, it seems that this is exactly the situation you'll end up in right from the start. First off, it seems you were already hooked on those fake promises by scam crypto YouTubers. You've already fallen to their sweet words that even if they promised you an unbelievable 5% weekly return of your investment you still find them making a lot of sense. You seem too eager to make money out of Bitcoin that you disregarded certain obvious red flags.
1165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: See Binance laughable tweet, but deceiving newbies on: July 14, 2023, 01:31:29 AM
Words are cheap. In the crypto community, certain terms like freedom, decentralized or decentralization, security, P2P, and so forth are used as if they are of no weight. While Bitcoin is truly revolutionary, those companies that are centralized, custodial, and operating no different from traditional banks and other conventional financial institutions like Binance are not. As a matter of fact, they're the antitheses of what Bitcoin is promoting.
1166  Economy / Economics / Re: Ignore this Classic Business Law or Follow Your Instincts? on: July 14, 2023, 12:11:37 AM
I believe the options are not only limited to avoiding what you don't understand and following your instinct. If you are in doubt over something you don't understand, is there no way to resolve that doubt before making any decision?

In the example by OP, is it not possible for the professor to request for an overview of what the project is all about? After all, he's been approached to invest. Those who approached him will probably be more than willing to explain to him in details what the business is.

In addition, he could always do some research. He could consult certain people who have the knowledge about fintech.
1167  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your Thoughts On First Time Lottery Bettor Who Won Big Amount? on: July 13, 2023, 03:37:08 AM
I'll probably be okay with it. After all, winning a lottery is purely about luck. Even if you maintain a number combination and bet on it every single day for decades, your probability of winning remains very low.

In a 6/45 lottery, you've only got one out of 8,145,060 chances. In 6/58, that would be one out of 40,475,358 chances. In percentage, that's 0.00000247%.

Arithmetic is the reason why I'm not a fan of lotteries. Unless the entire universe wants you to win, you're just throwing away money.
1168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Our Vision: How to change the world in three simple steps by Bitcoin" on: July 13, 2023, 03:02:46 AM
So what's the vision?

For all we know, Bitcoin can only do so much. If you envision a paradise here on earth, I'm afraid Bitcoin can't do that. In the same manner that you can't expect Bitcoin to eradicate poverty, hunger, inequality, and other socio-economic ills.

And if you imagine that there's something everybody can absolutely rally behind, you're probably up for a disappointment. Even among Bitcoin supporters, people are in disagreement about so many things. Even among much smaller groups like Bitcoin developers, there are disagreements.
1169  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Discussion] Arkham Intelligence on: July 13, 2023, 01:56:34 AM
If there's any good that will come out of this, it will certainly be overshadowed by the bad. However way I look at this project, it is way more dangerous and risky than it is helpful.

I don't even understand how a marketplace like this is legally allowed. If an open marketplace like Silk Road is taken down, why would a marketplace that is intentionally designed for people to sell and buy personal information be allowed? Is this not obviously an outright threat to the people's right to privacy?

It's also misleading for Arkham to call these analysts on-chain analysts when intel bounties could actually be offered for certain data like names and addresses.
1170  Economy / Economics / Re: Always ask for POD form from your bank on: July 13, 2023, 01:13:47 AM
I think this highly varies from country to country. I haven't processed something like this, but I have heard how extremely hard it is here. You even need to publish the extrajudicial settlement 3 times for 3 weeks in a newspaper. There are many other requirements. Although it is already made a bit easier thanks to a new tax law, the requirements are still a big hassle to the grieving family.

I'd rather advise old people to choose ATM over passbook. At least with an ATM, a family member who knows the PIN could withdraw everything easily when the account owner dies.
1171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin Betting Beginner’s Guide on: July 13, 2023, 12:36:20 AM
I don't think those who really understand Bitcoin and are gamblers are hesitant to bet with Bitcoin simply because "they don’t understand enough about it to take the plunge."

It is very basic knowledge to know how to buy and transact with Bitcoin. So if you understand Bitcoin, you know that. And if you know these things, you can easily wager with Bitcoin.

Bitcoin betting is actually much easier to understand than Bitcoin itself. Perhaps some choose not to gamble with Bitcoin for other reasons such as high transaction fee or that they prefer to keep their Bitcoin.
1172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin documentaries that worth to watch on: July 13, 2023, 12:15:07 AM
Thanks for this list. I will make time to watch these documentaries. I have always put off watching Bitcoin-related documentaries. I used to search for the likes of these on Netflix and it seemed there wasn't much. I'm glad that you bring up this topic once more.

I'm amazed even the story of Cryptopia has its own documentary. I might prioritize this one because I was a user and I still have funds stuck in there. It's just now that I realize I've never really known the reasons behind its collapse.
1173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin according to Satoshi is digital money then why call it investment. on: July 12, 2023, 04:18:20 AM
It's probably unintended but Satoshi must have an inkling about it. He/she/they likened Bitcoin to gold, after all. Satoshi must have known altogether that Bitcoin will have this tendency. It's money. It's scarce. It has a growing demand. As a result, it will have an increasing value unlike fiat which is decreasing because it is unlimited. Therefore, many people will probably keep it more than spend it.

Satoshi was certainly mindful of the ratio of 21 million coins to several billion people. He/she/they knew that some coins will be lost for good and it will have an effect on the value of the ones that remain in circulation. Satoshi was probably aware of the tendency of Bitcoin becoming an investment.
1174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How was your first experience with gambling? on: July 12, 2023, 03:27:01 AM
My first experience with gambling was fun. It was way back when I was still in my elementary days. We played with real money. It was just like any other game except that it involved coins you can spend. So it was more fun. The desire to win was much stronger compared to when we were playing rubber bands or marbles.

Online gambling came late. I was already working when I first got into online gambling. It was also fun but since it involved significant amounts, it wasn't just a game. So I had to be careful. It never got to a point when I couldn't care less about how much I lost for as long as I have the money and can continue gambling. I've never been addicted.
1175  Economy / Economics / Re: Invest in Marketing on: July 12, 2023, 02:13:20 AM
I agree. Marketing is important. But I don't agree that a product is only as good as advertised.

While the importance of ads is now exponentially growing thanks to the internet, customers' loyalty could only be gained if they get real satisfaction. Expectation versus reality still proves to be relevant. The problem with ads is that it has the tendency to exaggerate. In other words, to mislead. Ads are biased. You may actually gain followers and customers that way, and there's a lot to be fooled. But you can't last with it. You won't get loyalty, you won't last.
1176  Economy / Economics / Re: Things you should know about Money mindset on: July 12, 2023, 01:39:38 AM
I think the point is to somehow broaden your mind. One has to learn to be innovative, creative, open-minded, even adventurous when it comes to money-making. It doesn't hurt to explore new frontiers, to try new side hustles.

The traditional mindset tells you to stick to the only way you know how to make money. That's probably wrong.

During the pandemic, we saw a lot of people who underwent unexpected transitions. Many lost their jobs. But they have to live. They have to find ways to continue earning. Options suddenly grew. Borders suddenly pushed further.
1177  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance existing Deposit Addresses to Be Retired in Q3 (July - September 2023) on: July 12, 2023, 01:14:45 AM
What is the main aim and benefit of changing users deposit address?
Is it for more security of the users fund or to prevent the address from being compromised?

Well, Binance stated that they will be upgrading their wallet infrastructure. Following this, those deposit addresses, as well as memos, that belong to the old infrastructure will have to be retired. Accordingly, this is all for the sake of better efficiency and, as you mentioned, security for the users' funds.

This isn't the first time that Binance upgrades its wallet. And, as indicated in their announcement, this only goes out to certain users. The rest who didn't receive email notification won't have to obtain a new address.[1]

1178  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: July 12, 2023, 12:13:58 AM
Sometimes, I wonder what's wrong with MMA fighters who think they can compete against boxing champions simply because they have strong punches. Much respect to the sports of MMA, but since this is going to be a boxing match, Ngannou will be schooled. He should have chosen some weaker heavyweights instead. I think he couldn't even defeat Joshua. But, well, this is where the larger money is.

Anyway, the odds this early show Fury as the huge favorite at 1.25. Ngannou, on the other hand, is the underdog at 4.00. I couldn't agree with those odds more.
1179  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is ahead is very dangerous on: July 09, 2023, 03:44:09 AM
I have always maintained that airdrops should be avoided altogether cause they pose more risks than potential of profits. This may seem like an overkill to some but engaging in something that risks your privacy and your assets at the same time with little promise of getting any substantial value out of it should be avoided.
Some of the plots by the scammers who sponsors all those airdrops is to gain access to the hunter wallet and steal all the coins stored in them and by doing so what they used most is wallet connect this way the airdrop hunter will grant them access in to the wallet without even knowing and Thai have resulted into many scam and wallet-draining recently.

And just as you rightly said,  airdrop or bounty should be clearly avoided since the risk level is very high and the possibility of making anything out of it,   so  end up

We have this mentality to take advantage of what's free. There's always this logic that you're not paying for it so what can you lose? If I can get a dollar out of it, it's still worth it because it's for free. And who knows, it could explode in the future? So freebies, airdrops, giveaways, and the like are usually being used as baits. It's taking advantage of the psychological effects of this word free.

Alas, even a single click is actually enough payment. In the end, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
1180  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte II on: July 09, 2023, 02:56:08 AM
Both of these fighters are facing the sunset of their careers. Unlike many others who voted in the poll, I don't see a knockout, neither from Whyte II nor from Joshua.

Joshua is not anymore the shining star in boxing that he used to be. If this is a fight arranged for his comeback, to somehow condition him to face Wilder next, Whyte II is probably the wrong opponent. Supposing Joshua survives Dillian and faces Wilder come December, he will probably be surprised at how huge and more powerful Wilder is that he'll realize Dillian didn't actually prepare him for it.
