1201  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Has A Lower Value In Binance on: July 05, 2023, 03:01:53 AM
This is not a bug nor glitch in their app according to the news below "The impact of enforcement action against Binance.US is affecting the prices of cryptocurrencies on its exchange"
And according to the news, it's a crypto discount it is ranging from 2% to 5% discount.

That is why you see different prices on the BTC/Fiat compared to Binance.com and according to the news, not only BTC is affected by this also other Crypto/Fiat pairs like ETH.

I was thinking this is more of a technical issue. But I considered the 5% discount and it seems right around the amounts mentioned in the OP. There's a slight yet significant difference, though. If the maximum discount is at 5%, the price should be $29,756.85 and not $29,125.

Anyway, if this is indeed caused by what Binance.US is going through, isn't this a great way to do some arbitrage? Even considering the spread, with a difference of more than 5%, it's probably good enough.

So is there anything I can do or am I screwed and out of thousands of dollars?

So you did buy or sell? Did you try making a withdrawal? I mean, one could make the most out of this. Well, provided this is indeed the real price in the legit Binance.US platform.
1202  Economy / Exchanges / Re: OKX enforcing KYC. on: July 05, 2023, 02:15:37 AM
Another one bites the dust. It has just been around a week ago when OmegaStarScream informed us here that Kucoin to introduce mandatory KYC. Now, it's OKX's time. Time is obviously running out for those who are fond of using centralized exchanges with unverified accounts. Of course, this is expected, but it's still unfortunate that they cannot anymore provide even a low limit for those users who don't want to reveal their personal information.

I guess the largest remaining domino to have yet to fall is Huobi? It's $1,000 deposit limit for unverified users is rather low, but even this will probably be gone in the next weeks or months.
1203  Economy / Economics / Re: Fix the money, Fix the world. on: July 05, 2023, 01:43:57 AM
Whatever it is that could be accessed by anybody by way of money is always disadvantageous to the poor. While I believe that Bitcoin is a better money, I don't think it is a perfect money.

It is indeed a revolutionary thing for money to have no central authority, permissionless, could be fully owned, and so on, but since Bitcoin has a price in fiat and whoever rich enough could have as much of it as he/she could afford, the poor is always at the losing end.

People don't have equal access to Bitcoin. That's the reality. Yes, everybody can buy Bitcoin, but 1 BTC at the moment is at $30,800.
1204  Economy / Economics / Re: Chinese city now accepts CBDC payments for bus rides on: July 05, 2023, 01:16:17 AM
It's relatively easier for China to implement whatever plans the state has because of the kind of government they have. Resistance is very minimal and it could easily be addressed. Critics and other opponents of the measure could be silenced effortlessly.

While this digital currency is obviously an attack against privacy and freedom, to a people who are already deprived of it to a certain extent, nothing anymore matters.

I'm curious, is the CBDC in use the version that has an expiration date?
1205  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Virtual bug? on: July 05, 2023, 12:56:25 AM
Probably a bug or a glitch or, yeah, an attempt to manipulate the results. It's a virtual game, after all.

But I wonder, why the brazen cheating? I don't know how large this casino is, but if it's large enough that hundreds of thousands in USD is at stake, I don't think they will get away with it. So it could indeed be some sort of technical glitch.

It's just suspicious that not only did a team score 5 goals in a matter of a few minutes, the score of the other team was also reduced. How is it even possible? The score sheets displayed on the screen were erroneous?
1206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 9 Years ago A Lucky Man bought 30,000 BTC from US Government in this month on: July 05, 2023, 12:15:49 AM
The word lucky is oftentimes wrongly used in relation to Bitcoin investment.

Tim Draper wasn't lucky that he bought 30,000 Bitcoin from the US government for $632 each. He wasn't lucky that after he bought $250,000 worth of Bitcoin when each coin was only worth $6 and lost them all in the Mt. Gox fiasco, he tried to recover them by bidding with the highest price the auctioned coins earlier seized by the government for being involved in criminal transactions. Surely, Draper isn't lucky that he still got his coins until now.

Tim learned and believed in Bitcoin, took the risk, shelled out millions of dollars for it, developed strong hands and hodled through the worst of bears and best of bulls, kept it despite all the regulatory uncertainties, despite it's volatility and its being an unconventional asset that hasn't proven anything yet.
1207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and cash are more important than ever. on: July 02, 2023, 04:19:30 AM
Yes, cash and Bitcoin!

Cash I believe is still the best. By cash I mean cold cash, paper bills. Cold cash means less hassle, wider permission, less monitoring, and so on. Making online financial transactions involves a much longer process, confirmation, approvals. It is also more expensive with all the processing fees, admin fees, and other fees.

Bitcoin is the cash version online. Permissionless. Censorship-resistant. No problems like declined transactions, refusal to swipe, spending limit, and so forth.
1208  Economy / Economics / Re: Has everyone become too pesimistic about the economy? on: July 02, 2023, 03:22:47 AM
I think a pessimistic outlook of the economy has always been around. It's always there. Economic sentiments are divided between positive and negative all the time. If we were to go back in time a hundred years or two, the same divide already exists. So I guess there's really not much to be truly concerned of, at least for now.

I'm not saying the times won't turn worse, but if the status quo will remain--an economic challenge here, an armed dispute there, and so on--  there probably won't be something like a global famine or a world war or anything apocalyptic. After all, these problems that we encounter today all form part of the normal dynamics of our existence as a society.
1209  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: turn $40,000 into $4,000,000 with me (Record 2-1) | $40,000 on: July 02, 2023, 02:47:56 AM
Bankroll: $40,000

Bet #1: Club A. Guiles - San Martin S.J. OVER 1.5 GOALS @ 1.51 | $40,000 TO WIN $20,400

Bet #2: Bucheon FC 1995 - Gimcheon Sangmu OVER 2.5 GOALS @ 1.91 | $60,400 TO WIN $54,964

Bet #3: Nueva Chicago - Temperley OVER 1.5 GOALS @ 1.52 + FC Dallas - Los Angeles FC OVER 2.5 GOALS @ 1.75 | $75,364 TO WIN $125,104.24

Bet #4: Internacional - Cruzeiro OVER 3.25 GOALS @ 3.70 | $40,000 TO WIN $108,000

And that's it, right? Is it game over for this challenge now?

Internacional vs. Cruzeiro is 0-0. That's the final score. Over 3.25 was way too high. The 3.70 odds speaks highly of its improbability.

The score is now 2-2 and the bankroll falls back to zero. The 2-0 start made me really excited. I thought this was going to be a long ride. If $4,000,000 was too high a goal, at least it could breach the 7-figure. But it seems this is the end for now. It's unfortunate that this challenge only needs a couple of losses for the bankroll to get completely exhausted.
1210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How big is your optimism for crypto investment? on: July 02, 2023, 02:18:46 AM
It is clear in these sentiments that Bitcoin is best for the long term. So those who think that they could invest in Bitcoin and become rich overnight are most probably wrong.

The implication of a long term investment is that it will have its ups and downs. Bitcoin is highly volatile. You sure are gonna have some paper losses along the way. So those who think that investing in Bitcoin has low risk, make sure you are gunning for the long term.

Long term Bitcoin investment means you hodl amidst extreme crypto winter, bloody bear seasons, FUD, dumps, and the like. So those who think that Bitcoin investors making some money after several years of hodling are lucky, you don't know what you're talking about.
1211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Not your key not your wallet on: July 01, 2023, 11:48:21 AM
Not your keys, not your wallet, not your coins.

In fairness to Coinbase, you're given enough time to withdraw your coins. That's almost 90 days. But I wonder what the platform refers to when it says "accounts that no longer meet our updated standards." What standards in particular? Why does it have to be disabled? Is it not possible to update the account to meet such updated standards?

Are you aware of what this refers to? Or are you also confused about what it means?

I'm asking this because centralized exchanges have this penchant to be unclear or confusing in their communication that they leave their users hanging. For example, they inform a user that his/her account is locked because they detected suspicious activities. Or they suddenly require you to submit or resubmit KYC to prove that you're the owner because they observe something unusual in your account.
1212  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Board explanation for newbies on: July 01, 2023, 10:50:26 AM
There are indeed threads that are opened in the wrong section, but it is either somebody will advise the OP to move it or a moderator will do it. But I think this isn't really a big problem because not all topics are that confusing as to which section they should be discussed.

Also, there is already a guide for this as quoted by SeriouslyGiveaway.

I guess the problem among a number of newbies is that they are all too eager to start a discussion. Many of them end up sharing a personal experience, for example, of convincing a workmate, friend, neighbor, or whoever to invest in Bitcoin. They assume right away that since Bitcoin is somehow related to their experience, it is already a Bitcoin discussion. To my mind, it seems it is simply a discussion about their personal experience. It isn't really a discussion about Bitcoin.
1213  Economy / Economics / Re: Bad impact when You carry out Online or Offline Loans on an ongoing basis on: July 01, 2023, 09:52:03 AM
The problem I believe is not that people badly need money so that they're forced to take a loan. The problem is that many people have so much wants, and the thought of having money is really attractive to them because they can then buy their wants with it.

This is at least what I can observe among many people here in my country. In short, this is just a matter of financial education, or lack thereof. A lot of people, at least here in my country, are so financially irresponsible that much of their money goes to wants rather than needs. They don't have a proper sense of priority.

Even among a lot of people I personally know, they are easily attracted to loans. And it's not because they will use the money to invest or start a business or pay something important; it's simply because they can buy the phone they want or a pair of sneakers or they can travel.
1214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: turn $40,000 into $4,000,000 with me (Record 1-0) | $60,400 on: July 01, 2023, 09:23:20 AM
I think it was your thread that I read a month or two ago which amazed me. I'll be following you now. I wasn't able to notice your first bet. Congratulations! That was a good start. You now have a 1-0 record in this challenge. I might tail you on the second one. I like the odds on this one more. With how huge your wagered money is, I assume you're pretty much serious in this challenge. I wish you all the luck!

Anyway, will you not be compiling all your bets in the OP? That's probably easier for everybody to follow your bets.
1215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: North Carolina is pushing forward a bill to study holding Bitcoin on: June 30, 2023, 03:37:39 AM
It's pretty meh — it's just a study, like funding a thesis paper on bitcoin and digital currencies. It's not a bill that North Carolina will start holding bitcoin or something like that. Probably good(even when just slightly), but nothing close to major.

But whatever. Baby steps, I guess?

At the very least, it shows interest, a rather serious one I guess. It's the house of representatives. They're spending money for it. Quite a considerable baby step.

But this one will still have to go through another battle in the senate. After which, the governor will still decide whether to sign it or not. So, this is actually far from saying the state will be buying Bitcoin.

The mere fact, however, that the state's lower house is willing to spend money to study the potential benefits of holding Bitcoin speaks a lot. It's a huge recognition of Bitcoin's legitimacy.
1216  Economy / Economics / Re: Am I a bad person if I manage to avoid taxes? (Hypothetical question) on: June 30, 2023, 02:59:35 AM
It doesn't make you a bad person. It doesn't even make you an irresponsible person. You're just a person who did wrong to the government by not paying taxes. I guess that's all.

I'm not from a country that has "a model similar of European healthcare and employment insurance." Tax is therefore a lot harder for us to swallow. We pay taxes every time we move, but wherever the taxes go, we can only guess. You can't even get a free paracetamol here.

Anyway, tax avoidance is completely legal. You can find ways to avoid paying as much tax as possible. This is what the rich people are doing.
1217  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance to suspend GBP deposits/withdrawal on: June 30, 2023, 02:34:39 AM
If you check what happened the last 3-4 weeks:

- USA with the SEC
- In the Netherlands, fired. no licence so go out.
- In France, an investigation by the AMF since last year but we leaned abour it a few days ago
- In Canada, same story as in the Netherlands,
- Germany, refuse the licence
- Belgium don't want Binance

Just in a few days, and everything started with the SEC. So either all the countries decided to wake up at the same time, and I have no problem with that since I'm all for a justice. But it's strange that this is happening so quickly.

Adding a few bank partners to the receipt and voilà.

Well, if it's a conspiracy, it's a good one Cheesy

There could also be political reasons behind it, as well as strategy economic ones.

I think it's not really the SEC that started it all. Neither is this a case of all countries suddenly waking up simultaneously. This has long been a pattern of Binance's fate in many countries. It's not because of the US SEC; it's because of how Binance conducts its business.

We take note that Binance withdrew from Canada around a month before the SEC filed a lawsuit against Binance and CZ. Furthermore, Binance has been struggling with UK's FCA for years now. It also faced similar problems in Australia. It was also blocked from Italy. Binance was also kicked out from Japan. It was also compelled to shut down its Singapore operation. Binance also faced a criminal complaint in Thailand. It was also banned in Malaysia. The list goes on.

And it's not because of something initiated by the US; it's simply because Binance operates illegally, gets caught, attempts to register and submit to regulatory policies, and then they either succeed or they pack up and leave.
1218  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino on a cruise ship? on: June 30, 2023, 01:49:29 AM
I haven't entered a cruise ship casino but I suppose it can't equal with popular land-based casinos in many aspects; in size, game varieties, and so on. I also read that cruise ship casinos are normally not open 24/7. Also, since cruise ships sail from one country to another, there might be local gambling laws that they have to abide with. So there's probably a huge difference between gambling in a land-based casino and gambling in a cruise ship casino.
1219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 9.5 million flagged bitcoins on: June 30, 2023, 01:18:49 AM
Much of these were confiscated. The US government itself sold a portion of the seized coins, probably around 20%. Whoever bought them should feel safe despite the fact that those were coins involved in illegal transactions. The US government still has tens of thousands of Bitcoin in their possession. But they know better than throwing away these dirty coins. They hodl them. They will probably liquidate them when the price is good.

So don't believe in tainted or flagged coins. Be cautious, though. But know that Bitcoin is fungible. The US government's Bitcoin has equal value with anybody's Bitcoin.
1220  Economy / Economics / Re: After Making Money In Bitcoin, How is Black Tax Affecting You Economically? on: June 29, 2023, 03:28:56 AM
At some point, I realized giving your entire self for whoever else is somehow wrong. If you sacrificed yourself to your parents, siblings, relatives, and whoever else, if I were god, I'd punish you for it. It is all right to be of help, to be of assistance. That is, in fact, necessary, but to live your life as if you are a means for somebody else's end is a huge mistake.

Having said this, leave something for yourself. You are a person yourself. You have a life of your own. You have dreams to reach. You have your own happiness to seek. You are the universe's son or daughter, equal to everybody else, why would you forget yourself so that others may enjoy life?

This is not selfishness. The opposite is.
