661  Economy / Economics / Re: You are the product. Corporations spying on us deeper than we thought? on: November 22, 2023, 01:32:34 AM
I also have a somewhat similar experience. But mine is about search suggestions. My curiosity was piqued a few times because after mentioning something and decided to search for it right after, after typing just a letter or two, the exact word that you pronounced is suggested.

I've even shared it with others to also know their reactions and hear their opinions. I'm not sure if I'm also being paranoid but many of those to whom I shared my experience brushed it off as simply coincidence, paranoia on my part, too much thinking about being spied on, algorithm thing, and so on.

But I'm not completely convinced. I think our gadgets are listening to us to a certain extent. If the cameras are spying on us, why can't the mic? And this isn't just plain imagination. Those who have known it by being part of it themselves like Snowden confirm it.
662  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would You Crowdfund for a Gambler Who Has Gambled Irresponsibly? on: November 22, 2023, 01:02:17 AM
I don't mind sharing my gambling wins. I mean, isn't that a very natural reaction after having a nice gambling run? I've always been doing that.

However, I don't think it's worth contributing to a crowdfund of somebody who badly needs money because he/she gambled what was supposed to be spent for important expenses. To those who are willing to donate, I don't have a problem. It's their money. They're free to do whatever they want with their money. But, for me, I think that isn't a good practice so I wouldn't do that.
663  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex is Closing Down on: November 22, 2023, 12:27:51 AM
I haven't used Bittrex and i do not know too much about the exchange because it isn't popular these days, maybe it was popular in the past, but this is another service winding down this year, and though Bittrex didn't give any reasons why they are winding down, but i guess it may be due to low trading volume.

It was the Binance before Binance came, but I think Bittrex had a better reputation than Binance during its peak. It helped that it was a US company, although it eventually shut down its US operation and left the country due to a hostile regulatory environment.

Reading those closing words on that Tweet made me felt sad. I don't know but because yes, it's an end of an era. We've known it all that bittrex was once of the biggest in the past years and seeing them go like this is kind of making me emotional. I'm not a fan of theirs and used them not that long but that's it, I'm just feeling emotional right now that this can happen to any exchange that have been big during their prime.

I was also a bit emotional upon reading the news. It's not because another centralized exchange is about to die; it was because Bittrex played a central role in my newbie years. Although I ditched it a long time ago, the news evoked some nostalgia. One of my largest Bitcoin purchases in those early years was made there. And I also made some nice money with the platform. I can still remember those years when admission to the exchange more or less means the project has some potential or legit. And listing there is almost always followed by a strong pump. Bittrex wasn't as cheap as the likes of HitBTC back then. For an altcoin to make it to Bittrex means a lot.
664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Largest crypto exchange CEO arrested! Anyone getting deja vu? on: November 22, 2023, 12:04:39 AM
I don't think BitMEX was as huge as Binance when the arrest happened. I also don't think Arthur Hayes was as influential as CZ. And whether they're equal or not, I can't see a reason how it would be beneficial to Bitcoin's price. As a matter of fact, the price has already reacted. And it's moving southward.

Anyway, these are harsh punishments. And the fact that it involved a cryptocurrency platform must have contributed to its severity. I'm not sure if this was a wise decision on the part of CZ. Probably, if only to make sure that Binance stays afloat in a largely hostile environment, but what if he actually ends up in jail and Binance went bankrupt just the same? All these so-called sacrifices would all be for naught.
665  Economy / Exchanges / Bittrex is Closing Down on: November 20, 2023, 11:32:54 PM
After several years of operation, what was once the largest and most respected crypto exchange has announced that it is closing down. We could consider this an end of an era, even though Bittrex has already lost its prestigious spot in the crypto market years ago.

Here's their tweet about it:

666  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your solution to pay less Fee ? on: November 20, 2023, 04:24:19 AM
Blockchain.com has custodial and non-custodial wallets. Use the latter as it allows custom fee. Use the cheapest fee possible. Check the mempool first for the optimum fee rates. If possible, transact using native SegWit addresses.

Furthermore, you may also consolidate and batch your UTXOs. Do it when the fees are low. As suggested, you may also try using ViaBTC's free accelerator. There's an amount limit, though, and be warned that other accelerators may not actually help. There's also the Lightning network you might want to try using.

On the other hand, practicality suggests that if the persons you're often transacting with accept altcoins which have very low fees or stablecoins, that would be an option. Also, certain custodial wallets like those of centralized exchanges don't require transaction fees for internal transfers. If, for example, you have and you're transacting with individuals who also have Binance accounts, do the transactions there.
667  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best thing that have ever come to you thanks to BTC on: November 20, 2023, 02:47:29 AM
There's so much I owe to Satoshi Nakamoto. But I guess the best thing that Bitcoin gave me is freedom. Unfortunately, it's not the kind of freedom that Satoshi envisioned. I'm still tied up to the banks and the currency of the government and the rotten system on which it thrives. But at the very least I'm now enlightened about it. And such freedom will surely come in the near future.

The freedom that I'm talking about, however, is the freedom from being an 8-5 modern-day slave. Thanks to Bitcoin, I don't have to work as an employee anymore. Life's still hard more or less, but being in control of your time and movement is priceless.
668  Economy / Economics / Re: Life is cheaper with Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general on: November 19, 2023, 03:02:21 AM
You should've stopped at Bitcoin. Why add "and cryptocurrencies in general"?

You save in fiat, you earn a little interest, but it can hardly keep up with the speed at which prices of goods and services are rising. You save in Bitcoin, what you can buy with 1BTC today, you can buy it with 0.2BTC a decade later. You save in other cryptocurrencies, what you can buy today, you cannot afford it anymore in the next decade because what you've got are already worthless.
669  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK 17th FEBRUARY 2024 on: November 19, 2023, 01:44:05 AM
Hmmm... It seems to me that any bet on Usik with odds higher than 2.1 is profitable. At the moment, Fury is much more hyped than Usyk plus he is the favorite so it can be assumed that bookmakers base their quotes on cash flow from betters. Therefore, I will assume that these quotes poorly reflect the sports balance of power where it seems that the chances are 50 to 50.

I don't see it as 50:50. I actually agree with the odds. That's why I was curious where this Fury's 1.62 odds are posted because that's for me higher than it could actually be in reality. Usyk has a talent, yes, but if he could only win an SD against a breaking Joshua in their rematch, I can't see any reason how he could defeat a much bigger, stronger, and more confident and undefeated Fury.

This is not sumo where size and weight always help you, if Fury cannot hit Usik, then there is a chance that by the end of the fight Fury himself will fall from fatigue (haha). The question is how much faster Usik will be and how long he can remain invulnerable. It’s hard for me to guess who will be luckier - Usik or Fury, so I’m taking the basic 50/50. There were many fights where the technician wore down the knockout guy and vice versa where the knockout guy suppressed the technician with his physical power, I don’t know how it will be here. And it’s clear that they’re both techies, but there’s a similar pattern here: superior power versus speed.

Come on! In boxing, size and weight always matter. There's a reason why an agreed weight will have to be strictly implemented. To fail is to pay a costly fine. Worse, the match could be cancelled and you're still asked to pay for certain expenses. Moreover, Fury isn't that big that it's taking a toll on his movement and speed. Fury floats. This is a lethal combination.

In addition to his size and weight, which Fury makes the most of in his fights, there's also that 7-inch difference in reach. We've also seen how Fury stretches that arm to keep his opponents at bay.

I'm not saying Usyk doesn't even have the slightest chance to win. The man is quick for his weight class. But it cannot be possible that he would wear out Fury to the point that he would fall from fatigue. LOL!
670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the minimum amount of bitcoin or satoshi should hold for poor? on: November 18, 2023, 03:55:03 AM
Is there such a thing as a minimum amount of Bitcoin a poor person should have? There might be a recommended minimum time for hodling, but I don't think there's a minimum amount for a poor person. Whatever amount he/she can afford, that'd be it.

But I don't think a poor person, a truly poor person, should be thinking of stacking up Sats. That wouldn't be his/her business. I'm sure the money would be better off spent on something else that'd make his/her life more decent. If I were a truly poor person, I'd probably be using it to buy food and other basic needs, or improve my living condition, or build myself to make me deserving of a higher income.
671  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Huge Amount of BTC on: November 18, 2023, 03:20:52 AM
I don't understand why this question will have to be considered unnecessary, the user called a shithead, and so on. I don't know if others can relate, but there was a time when a number of my friends had trouble converting cryptocurrency to cash. I guess this was even discussed a number of times in my local board. I'm referring to the conversion of crypto to big amounts of cash. Until now, it's a challenge. It's not easy. Hence, the question.

If I am to convert even 1BTC right now, I'd be having a hard time as well. My local banks would surely notice that this isn't a normal transaction and I might be inquired about it. Remittance centers would ask documents. Meet ups would probably be limited to much smaller amounts.

Or do we find it unbelievable for somebody here to have as much? There's somebody here who owns a cruise ship.

Anyway, go local, OP. OTC is an option. Try to connect with local Bitcoin communities as well. There are probably brokers in your place. And you might have to divide it into much smaller quantities.
672  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency is the second most popular investment in "France" on: November 18, 2023, 02:28:56 AM
This survey looks interesting to me. The findings as well as the investment options provided made me a little curious. Crypto assets almost making it equal with the top choice which is real estate funds? And then there's also NFTs as the top 9 most popular investment option?

These are surprising to me, to say the least. And then I also cannot find precious metals and stones like gold and silver. There are also no jewelries. And to a country which attracted artists for centuries perhaps, and has abundance of artworks, and where the city of art is located, I didn't see artworks. Surely, NFT hasn't replaced it?
673  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK 17th FEBRUARY 2024 on: November 18, 2023, 01:31:33 AM
The odds will change as and when the number of bets placed changes but it seems as though Fury is the favourite. What has to be mentioned is that he is definitely not overwhelmingly favourite and that is for two reasons. First, his display against Ngannou was nowhere near emphatic and second, Usyk has a real chance to win.

The odds I saw in box.live have a significant difference from those you've given. Where did you get those odds? Are those taken from a betting platform? In box.live the odds were 1.53 for Fury and 2.5 for Usyk. In Sportsbet, it's the same for Fury at 1.53 although lower for Usyk at 2.28. I'm for Fury in this fight. If I can find better odds for Fury like those that you've posted, I'd be interested to bet an outright. I really am not expecting an upset on this one.

That was a rather quick and significant change in the odds based on actual betting when the fight is scheduled 3 months from now. I was curious which betting platform it was offered. Having an account there might be worth it.

Anyway, I doubt Fury took Ngannou very seriously. For somebody who had just crossed into boxing from MMA and has been inactive for almost two years, he probably wouldn't be taken as a big threat. Usyk has a chance but I don't think it's a big one.

As per the latest odds:

Fury: 1.62
Usyk - 2.21

most adult people dont even know how credit cards function behind the plastic. they just learn how to swipe/use it
most adult people dont even know or even understand or even taught about the economics of credit/debt

And most adult people also don't know how their money works. They're blind as to its system and even its whims and abuses. All they know is that it is the currency because of fiat or government order and that they're spending time, energy, creativity, their entire life for its sake. All the while, it is continuously devalued by the very institution which gave the order.

I think children and everybody else should also be enlightened about the real deal of money. Bitcoin would be more attractive if presented right after.
675  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why Localbitcoin take this action ? on: November 17, 2023, 03:05:18 AM
It is not only LocalBitcoins, there are some P2P platforms closed their services too like Paxful, 2 months after LocalBitcoins.

Paxful is shutting down

They did it by stricter regulations. Even Kucoin required mandatory KYC a few months after that.

Before LocalBitcoins and Paxful, there is another one in October 2022, Localcryptos.
LocalCryptos is shutting down

Stricter regulations are the easiest to use as a reason, but it might not be the real one. Although I think it's indeed the reason as far as Localcryptos are concerned, it probably wasn't as to the case of LocalBitcoins. LocalBitcoins complied with regulatory demands. Therefore, they didn't have to shutdown because of regulatory challenges. It was probably more of dwindling activity or volume brought by the crypto winter and their mandatory KYC. Localcryptos remained principled until the end; they had to shutdown.

As to Paxful, although they also mentioned it, the shutdown wasn't really about stricter regulations. It was more of internal disagreement on ownership and control. It reopened later with another CEO.
676  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Online bookstores that accept ₿? on: November 17, 2023, 02:33:43 AM
I tried looking for one through spendabit. There are a number of books available but they're mostly not sold from a bookstore. Many of these stores are offering other stuff aside from books. They all accept Bitcoin payment, of course. But I found Mises Bookstore, though. It has more than 600 books available. I don't know which specific books or what type of books you're looking for, but you might want to drop by their site.

Please note that I haven't tried buying from this bookstore. This isn't a recommendation.

You seem to be in a hurry launching your platform you ended up doing it prematurely. It seems your website is far from complete. I guess you better do some polishing first before getting back promoting it.

You're claiming to have 24/7 support and yet your operator is offline. And despite choosing English, there are still words that are in Russian. Your chatbox is also in Russian language by default? There doesn't seem to have an option to translate it to English. The UI is generally unattractive. I'm sure you can improve it a lot.

679  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Start with the little you have, you don't need millions of dollars to own BTC. on: November 17, 2023, 01:06:28 AM
I agree. One has to start buying the moment they understand Bitcoin. If not for starting to build a Bitcoin portfolio, it's for them to try making Bitcoin transactions. Learning Bitcoin includes learning to receive and send Bitcoin. Creating a wallet, storing backup, getting the public address, and so on are exciting things for somebody who's still in the learning process.

In terms of investing, the advantage of buying in small amounts is that you could have a lower buying price average. And there's also the tendency that once you start buying, you will continue doing it. You couldn't get enough of it. And that's how your portfolio grows. Keeping your money for that perfect time and price could either mean you won't buy anymore because the price has already risen or you have spent your savings on something else.
