1241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your first purchase in btc: the craziest, the most moving, the most expensive on: June 28, 2023, 03:33:23 AM
I think my first purchase of Bitcoin was way back 2016. If I remember it right I got it from somebody close to me. I didn't buy it from a centralized exchange or a decentralized exchange. I gave him money; he sent the coins directly to my wallet.

I'm generally a hodler, but it doesn't mean I don't ever spend my coins. I'm a hodler because the bulk of my coins I intend to keep for a long time. But it doesn't mean I don't have a certain amount of Bitcoin to spend or convert or even trade once in a while.
1242  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Supreme Court Ruled in Favor of Coinbase on: June 26, 2023, 07:55:23 AM
The title and content is severely misleading given the more important issues going on against coinbase at the moment. So, they prevailed against a user. Who cares? When do customers not beat their consumers in court?

The SEC vs. Coinbase. That's the real thing to keep eyes on. My bet is that coinbase will be gone by next year.

I don't know why it is severely misleading when it was all there is to it. Coinbase indeed secured a favorable ruling from the US supreme court. But it wasn't against a user like you said. You're the one misleading. The case was against the district courts of California.

The SEC vs. Coinbase; that's another thing. Apparently, I wasn't talking about it.

I don't know how convinced you are that Coinbase will be gone by next year, but if you want to put your money where your mouth is, I'm willing to bet against that. Not only will Coinbase stay by next year, it will stay in the year 2025 and even beyond that.
1243  Economy / Economics / Re: What roles does the poor play in the Economy? on: June 25, 2023, 03:43:26 AM
Huge! The poor masses have so vital a function in the economy. In the first place, they are the milking cows of businessmen. I can only speak for my country, though.

That's the art of life, sir. For example, for the completion of work that is manpower in nature, you definitely need the name of a worker who can complete the job according to the required technical specifications. Now. what I'm thinking now is whether there are rich people who want to work like poor people. Of course not the answer. Because their social status is the same. that's why rich people must also have taste, don't ever think they are their cash cows.

That's not art for me. I'm seeing exploitation, oppression. But I'm not simply speaking of laborers working. That's not necessarily unfair. They got their level of skills. They gotta find work where they function best. That's all right provided they're not overworked in an unsafe and inhuman condition, and extremely underpaid.

How can you not consider the masses the cash cows of businesses when they are comprising almost 60% of the entire population?
1244  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Jermall Charlo Super Middleweight (September 16) on: June 25, 2023, 03:11:00 AM
Jermall Charlo may be a good and powerful boxer, but I think Canelo will easily dismantle him in this fight. Like other matches such as the Davis-Garcia fight, this match may only be exciting if we look at the plain numbers or their records and accomplishments. But if we take a closer look at each one of them, it may not be a good match.

When Charlo defended his title against a nobody in Montiel and only got a UD, it spoke a lot. That was way back June of 2021. From that time on, Jermall was nowhere to be found. He wasn't fighting in the ring anymore. We learned that he was fighting another battle: mental health.

So if I were to take into consideration that Jermall is inactive for more than 2 years before fighting Canelo, that he has just faced mental health problems, that he's moving up in weight class probably because of all those years of inactivity, I'd totally understand that this early Canelo is 1.42 favorite while Charlo is 2.82 underdog.
1245  Bitcoin / Legal / US Supreme Court Ruled in Favor of Coinbase on: June 25, 2023, 02:37:37 AM
While this may not be as big of a deal as it seems, since this is the first time that the US supreme court rules on a case involving cryptocurrency, it's probably worth taking note. Coinbase winning a legal battle in no less than the supreme court and against the lower courts in California will have significant implications.

For a brief backgrounder, Coinbase faced a couple of cases in California involving a user who lost money and "deceptive advertising." Coinbase, then, argued that the cases be dismissed because it's part of the signed user agreement that such complaints be settled through arbitration. The request for arbitration was denied. Coinbase then appealed and requested that while the appeal is in progress the case proceedings be stopped. Once again, California’s district courts decided against Coinbase.

Coinbase ran to the supreme court. There, with a close 5-4 decision, Coinbase prevailed over the California district court's decisions.

1246  Economy / Economics / Re: What roles does the poor play in the Economy? on: June 25, 2023, 02:01:12 AM
Huge! The poor masses have so vital a function in the economy. In the first place, they are the milking cows of businessmen. I can only speak for my country, though.

Here, the masses comprise the huge consuming public. The capitalists here are providing products which are mainly adjusted to the lifestyle of the masses. The masses are poor. They can't buy goods in large amounts, for example, so everything are offered in tiny amounts, in sachets, in little packets.

Moreover, these poor masses are the ones who can easily be exploited as cheap labor force. Businesses here offer tiring jobs with very low compensation. The masses can't easily complain because they need to eat. Jobs are scarce. It would be a larger disaster for the worker and his/her family if he/she is kicked out because of whining.

Another thing, the regulators can't just fight for the welfare of the poor masses. They're paid. The leaders? They're also on the payroll.
1247  Other / Archival / Re: My 7 years of experience with CEXs (4 years on Bitcointalk) on: June 24, 2023, 09:48:45 AM
The risk is certainly high.

The risk is high - this is when you invest not in 100 projects, but in 1, there is diversification here, so I don’t think that this portfolio is high risk, especially considering portfolios consisting of ICO projects and retrodrops, where scam risks are minimal, because the price entry into the project is extremely low.

I guess we have different ways of looking at it. We probably also have different experiences. As for me, I could even say that in a hundred ICOs, 90% of them are most likely scam, unrealistic, shabby, unsustainable projects. I encountered so many seemingly promising ICOs way back in 2017 and 2018. Most of them are dead. The same is true with airdrops. Retrodrop wasn't a big thing before.

Quote
But since the portfolio is designed for medium term or for a few years, there's probably not much pressure to keep yourself abreast of each project's development.

The portfolio is long-term, designed for ~3 years. I do not follow the development of altcoin projects at all, only the charts.

Long term for me is at least 5 years.

I wonder, do you think it's even riskier if you're only relying on the charts?

Quote
I'd be interested to look back to this portfolio in 2025 and see how this pans out. My own experience tells me that in a portfolio full of altcoins, you'd be lucky enough to still have half of it retaining some worth by the time you want to liquidate them years later.
But perhaps with these hundred different altcoins, many taken from top 400, small cap and testnet projects, and even ICO\IDO\IEO, it is probably enough that a handful made it big time for the entire portfolio to register net positive.

Half for this portfolio is a lot. No more than 20% of the portfolio is pledged for unprofitability and death of altcoins.

I hope you'll prove to be right in the end, although I really think 20% is rather too low. It's too optimistic for me especially considering that you probably end up with around 150 projects. But I wish your portfolio the best of luck. I trust that you must have learned a lot in your years in crypto.
1248  Economy / Exchanges / Re: When scammers lacks crypto updates on: June 24, 2023, 08:31:58 AM
This all started with the issue on the MEXC exchange and I had no choice than to look for help on the MEXC telegram group...

What do you mean you had no choice? I haven't used MEXC exchange but I suppose they have a built-in support system. If there is no live chat, perhaps there is a feature for users to create a ticket and inform the platform of certain issues. If both are non-existent, I assume they indicate their official channels in their own site. They probably provide their email or Twitter or Facebook or other official communication lines. So why do you have to go to Telegram and ask for help? Shouldn't we always transact through official channels?
1249  Other / Archival / Re: My 7 years of experience with CEXs (4 years on Bitcointalk) on: June 24, 2023, 08:04:41 AM
At the moment, my current long-term portfolio project is: [PORTFOLIO] Altcoins vs. Bitcoin
This is great, having a look at your portfolio
Your current long-term portfolio projects are interesting to view and analyze for future investment. I can't stop feeding my eyes on them because it is a whole lot of altcoin you had in your portfolio.

That is indeed noticeable. With more than 100 projects to monitor, I don't think it is easy. The risk is certainly high. But since the portfolio is designed for medium term or for a few years, there's probably not much pressure to keep yourself abreast of each project's development.

I'd be interested to look back to this portfolio in 2025 and see how this pans out. My own experience tells me that in a portfolio full of altcoins, you'd be lucky enough to still have half of it retaining some worth by the time you want to liquidate them years later.

1250  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: June 24, 2023, 07:27:50 AM
~snip~
Watching two affluent guys in the ring at this time is one of the most entertaining sports since it's not only about fighting, but about competing for the world's strongest and wealthiest being. I know exactly how everything will play out, it will be a definite important game to watch, gamblers always make good use of an opportunity when they see one, some have started asking for the venue and the odds involved, well I guessed this is not an ordinary fight, both would partner for an upcoming project that we are unaware of, and this fight would boost the road map of these solid prominent projects.

While I'm also interested to watch the fight, I'm actually expecting it to be boring. What do we expect from these men really? If you think that this is going to be entertaining in such a way that you are entertained by great UFC and boxing matches, you're probably going to be disappointed.

If this pushes through, I'm expecting them to quickly run out of gas. And they will probably just hug each other and bore us until the end. So let's not create so much hype around this fight as if this is between Crawford and Spence. It's probably enough that these two men have very popular names that we are interested to watch how they fight.
1251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We All Know, The halving time will be full of drama on: June 23, 2023, 07:25:53 AM
The market has always been full of drama. It's not like there's drama when the halving is near and the same would subside as the halving has taken place. This is not true. FUD comes and goes all the time. It's not dependent on the halving.

As for the SEC and its filing of charges against Binance and CZ, not only is it totally unrelated to the upcoming halving, it is also not intended to cause a market dump. Neither is it done to scare anybody about Bitcoin so that they would be able to buy it at a cheap price. This is also not true.

You might want to read the interesting opinion of d5000 on this.
1252  Economy / Economics / Re: Connect data to accelerate cashless payments on: June 23, 2023, 04:54:06 AM
Cashless or digital payments have now reached the mainstream even in developing countries like mine. As a matter of fact, even in many rural areas here in my country, people know about digital payment systems and are actually using it.

Here, we now have market vendors who are accepting digital or online payments. What's amazing is that even those ambulant vendors or food carts on the streets are also accepting digital payments. So we can say that the economy both up there and down here is now turning cashless.

But what's even more amazing, even dumbfounding, is that even street beggars here are also accepting digital donations.[1] So next time little kids annoy you for some spare change, can't tell them to just go away because you've got none. Brace yourself! There's a QR code coming your way!

1253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Apart from "OP" any other slag every beginner needs to know? on: June 23, 2023, 04:28:48 AM
You must have been delighted to learn its meanings as it apparently refers to both the poster and the post.

Anyway, I'm not sure how many more Bitcoin or crypto slangs that are peculiar to this forum. I don't know where the slangs lambo, rekt, and others originated, but we used to have hodl here. But then it gradually became a slang in the entire crypto community.

Perhaps we still have sig camp here which refers to signature campaign, or perhaps BCT in short for Bitcointalk. There must be other slangs unique to this forum.
1254  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: June 23, 2023, 03:33:11 AM
In these times of clown matches, this is a great addition. If indeed this is going to happen and betting odds are released, I would be betting on Mark Zuckerberg.

Although shorter and smaller, Musk is already beyond 50. So I suppose Zuckerberg could easily match Musk's strength. He's also more athletic. Not to mention that Zuckerberg is much more active than Elon. So despite the latter's background in karate, taekwondo, and judo, I don't think he'll be able to beat the younger Meta owner.

And with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it doesn't matter that much if the other guy is 24 pounds heavier and 4 inches taller.
1255  Economy / Economics / Re: Let's imagine you were the president of your country, How would your Economic on: June 22, 2023, 03:44:13 AM
I think economics is more of a by-product than a specific task. If my dream for my country as a president is to strengthen its economy, I'll have to do a whole lot of tasks, even ones not directly related to economics but equally as important.

For example, I'll have to make sure the business environment is friendly. That means removing red tape, eradicating corruption, providing tax incentives to investors, and so on. That would also mean building dependable infrastructures like roads, ports, airports, internet connection, and others. It also means preparing your labor force to be dependable and effective workers. It even means there's peace and order in your place.

Jobs are basically created by the private sector, the investors. And no investor will come to a place where cars don't move because of heavy traffic, where criminals are robbing banks day and night, where the labor force are weak and lazy, where internet is extremely poor and communication signals are nonexistent, where access is difficult, where grease money is needed every step of the way, and so on and so forth.
1256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on The Island of Bali, Indonesia on: June 22, 2023, 02:58:48 AM
If I were to visit Bali, it would be because it has a lot of wonderful things to offer. I'm referring to the beaches, the temples, and other natural and man-made wonders. It wouldn't be because it accepts Bitcoin. So I guess I wouldn't mind if the province isn't Bitcoin friendly.

But supposing Indonesia accepts Bitcoin as payment, what can a lowly governor do? He will have no other choice but to abide with the law. It's just unfortunate that the country doesn't accept Bitcoin as a currency. What's even more unfortunate was its declaration as haram by the country's Islamic council.
If they have such leaders then the governments will never grow up to their potential, Bali is an wonderful place and there are many foreigners come there to explore the place especially from Europe so accepting crypto currency is actually going to be beneficial for them right but instead they are doing opposite and advising not to use it so who is going to lose, which economy is going down if they are not giving space for what the people are there for.

Again, this isn't Bali's fault nor the governor's. The legal order against the use of Bitcoin as a currency is, of course, coming from the national government. The local leaders will have no choice but to implement it even if they're against it.

At the end of the day, visitors will have to toe the line because they are in a different country with a different set of laws, customs, and culture. After all, they're probably not visiting Bali because of Bitcoin.

Leaders change. Perspectives change. Sooner or later, the whole of Indonesia will embrace the new currency.
1257  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning]: New Mystic Stealer targets 40 web browsers and crypto wallets on: June 22, 2023, 02:24:25 AM
Thanks for the heads up! The online space is now becoming a more dangerous water to tread. Utmost vigilance is needed more than ever. It's clear malwares are fast developing. It's worrisome reading this new kid on the block especially knowing that the development of this one has a "focus on anti-analysis and defense evasion." I'm afraid this might not easily be detected by weaker anti-virus.

Every click matters now more than ever. A single error could cost us our entire wallet.
1258  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin high transaction fees is a disadvantage to small business owners on: June 22, 2023, 01:36:01 AM
It's actually a disadvantage to everybody save perhaps the miners to whom those transaction fees are paid. Even those large businesses will also be affected by high transaction fees. Although it's not much of a problem to the one who receives, it might affect the sales. Of if you are after those Bitcoin payments themselves, they will surely shrink. People will certainly be discouraged to pay in Bitcoin, unless they're provided with discounts high enough for them not to mind the fees.

Perhaps it's about time to integrate Lightning in your Bitcoin payment system.
1259  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: benefits of having mature accounts at 3 casinos (personal experience) on: June 22, 2023, 01:03:56 AM
In short, it pays to be a high roller. This is true to both online and brick-and-mortar casinos, whether it's a crypto casino or a fiat casino.

But those VIP benefits and perks and other exclusive privileges require that you have the money. After all, you can only rise through the VIP ranks if you are spending big time. If you are an occasional gambler with only a small amount of money prepared each time you log in or enter a casino, you probably don't even have to desire having multiple mature accounts.
1260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hold Bitcoin VS Hold Gold on: June 22, 2023, 12:39:18 AM
It seems this Bitcoin versus gold comparison won't easily die. But I think this isn't simply an either-or situation. If you have so much wealth, you'd better off having both. However, if you have limited savings which you intend to invest on either of them, I think Bitcoin is the better option.

While gold doesn't have to prove anything anymore as far as being a way to keep inter-generational wealth is concerned, the potential of growth is on the side of Bitcoin.

So perhaps it depends on what you are up to with your money. For me, at this point, I'd rather be heavily invested in Bitcoin. It matters whether you're still building or keeping your wealth.
