321  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Buy new altcoins in ICO stage = profit? on: October 18, 2017, 08:36:07 PM
Title.

Basically is this how its done to receive a profit on Cryptocurrency?

or just invest when research and news is done.

Thank you
WRONG. Most ICO´s will turn out to be scams. Beware. Moreover, even if you choose the project right it will take a good dump after ico namely because of bounty hunters dumping there gains. So choose the right project AND the right time to sell.

DISCLAIMER: Usually don´t go for ICOS because i can´t study that kind of markets.
322  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin has Arrived in Thailand..... on: October 18, 2017, 07:57:48 PM
Japan is going to accept and regulate BTC as means of payment. My question is: With BTC becoming mainstream, regulated and not fungible...what will be BTC 2.0? i mean wich will be the coin for the darknet and for the guys that are privacy focussed?
323  Economy / Economics / Re: Does this mean Cash will be extinct? on: October 18, 2017, 10:47:28 AM
Sweden is contemplating to stop using cash by 2023, does this mean cash might be extinct if other countries follow suit?

https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2017/10/sweden-could-stop-using-cash-by-2023?utm_content=buffer40bef&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Cash as physical money will probably be replaced. However Fiat currencies are ot yet to disapear. You already have digital money in your credit cards and bank transations. The diference it´s not it being digital or bank notes. the diference is one is issued based on the confidence on a country/government and the other is decentralized. Other differencies apply but this is the most important one for now. BTC started to thrive and get value without the governance / back up of a central bank or federal reserve.
324  Economy / Economics / Re: Generating Passive Income on: October 18, 2017, 07:47:02 AM
Hey folks,

I realise that the simplest way to make a profit on crypto at the moment seems to be just buying and holding Bitcoin, but I'm curious if there are any coins or tokens designed specifically to generate ongoing passive income for holding them and if so, how they work?

Appreciate any replies,
1- There are quite a few options on these, but of course the safest (if safe anyway) is holding BTC.
2- There are some proof of stack coins. The ones that will give you some percentage over time if you hold. I´m not really involved in these type of coins but i own some Komodo and they reward the stackers yearly.
3- Other option is margin trading lending. To generate liquidity for margin trading some exchanges allow you to lend your coins. Its pretty safe but there is always a small risk of default or a risk of an exit scam on ANY exchange. Even the good established ones are not regulated, so be awaare of these.
4- Other way is buy coins that provid a dividend or profit sharing. The one i know better is TAAS. It is an Ethereum smart contract that will share trading profints quarterly. They already did it once in august and are promissing a new quarterly dividend in November. For these kind of tokens please read the whitepapers and roadmaps carefully and get envolved with the comunity so you reduce the risk of getting scammed.

326  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 17, 2017, 02:27:56 PM
I am a speculator.  I do use Monero to buy things.  But I also buy it to hold it because I think it has the potential to be worth much more in the future.  Unfortunately for me I have lost almost all my XMR holdings.  I know it's popular to talk about boating accidents... but I just keep mine on USB keys, and then I leave them in pants pockets and wash them and then dry them (I wonder which part of that does the true destroying?) so the private keys are gone and my dozens of XMR are lost.

But I keep trying!

To continue my recent trend of "talking my book"...  I am taking one LAST (seriously... cut me off after this one, I can't make it home if I have another) dip into my precious BTC pile to supplement my XMR holdings.  I have entered one last time (I SWEAR IT THIS TIME I REALLY DO) @ .0168 - .017.

Wish me luck!  Let's see if can not lose these too.

You know one of the things I bought with my monero is a Cryptosteel. Wink  Another was a Ledger Nano S.

Starting to feel shity exchanges are rather safe after all the boating accidents and machine washing Moneros:) I had a paper wallet gone with wind, and a few days ago i found it when i was packing to move homes once again:) so i actually have a few BTC that are not balls deep in alts. might throw it monero way.

328  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What technical indicators do you use for trading cryptocurrency? on: October 16, 2017, 09:29:25 PM
To all the master traders, top winners, and geniuses, please share your top technical indicators for trading cryptocurrency, which is the best?
I´m no expert nor genious but can let two or three notes.

Technical indicators rely on market history and volume. Crypto has neither. That said we can ignore it and use them with caution in high volume coins with established history. Of course the best would be BTC/USD pair.
Other thing to remember there is not one technical indicator that works alone. I would use SMA for trends, bollinger bands and fibonaci for support and resistance and to determine entry points, MACD for momentum.

I´ll be checking back to the thread to get new ideas and learn a little more on the matter.
329  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC effect on altcoins on: October 16, 2017, 07:56:14 PM
I noticed that most times when btc is rallying almost all of the altcoins dip. and when there is a crash in btc all altcoins suffer as well. my interpretation is that for the first alts can't sustain the price against the $ if btc is high. and for the second, everyone is panic selling btc.
what do yo guys think ??
There is a movement that is well established. People come to crypto thru BTC so, when there is hype like this and a strong movement of BTC some of the money returns to BTC from alts. When BTC price establishes a bit some of that money come back to alts and all the market moves up. Of course there are pumps and dumps in the middle as well. So with so much cheap alts around or so much time and lots of new money in BTC we should expct a market increase soon. And off course BTC will keep uping as well.
330  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin a Bubble? on: October 16, 2017, 06:44:16 PM
Wall street grows ever more certain Bitcoin is a bubble. I can't even say they're wrong. Flirting with $6000 per coin and low economic utility? For as dumb as Jamie Dimon sounds every time he says anything about Bitcoin, the tulip bubble analogy looks less and less inappropriate all the time.

Quote
In a note to clients published on Thursday, analysts at UBS took a long look at Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies, and the blockchain technology that underwrites this whole enterprise.

Looking only at pricing, UBS said that, “a twenty-fold increase in bitcoin prices in just two years, and an absence of any fundamental economic backing, cryptocurrency prices are almost certainly a bubble.”

Blockchain utility doesn't make crypto not a bubble. That'll be important to remember for people buying now expecting to make big gains at this cost basis, and there's real risk there.

FOr me blockchain is the future and certainly not a bubble. as for BTC itself one thing is clear, the price is not driven by demand or growing usecases. the Price is driven by speculation on the future of the technology and on the huge profits it´s been providing. That said when newer and better tech arrives BTC will loose value or will be kept as a store of value asset as it´s proven its strengh . If its a bubble, will now after or if it bursts:)

As for Jamie Dimon we should ask hm, how a huge expert on driving profit out of speculative assets could have missed the biggest one ever. Because even if the bubble bursts, BTC won´t be erased from history:)
331  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: $5k on hand. Where to invest? on: October 15, 2017, 09:33:37 PM
Very nice thread because i have 8k too to invest !

Was thinking about OMG/STRAT/BTC/ ( i have already ETH).

I don't know KOMODO and WTC...will look it ! Thanks !
Look at XBY as well. When investing in my opinion we should diversify and definitely include the established ones. However disruptive technology should be in as well. We don´t know if they will deliver, but if they do It really gets huge. In this chapter of small coins with disruptive tech and small price i´m really excited about XTRABYTES, XBY.
332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: $5k on hand. Where to invest? on: October 15, 2017, 08:30:38 PM
Would you guys recommend Ripple as investment, Even after research its tough to decide.
I think Ripple will make money to many people. I personally don´t touch it unless it´s for very short term daytrading. Why? Centralized coin, Made for banks, and useless. You dont need the token to use the service. So it´s just for speculative trading, no use.
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: $5k on hand. Where to invest? on: October 15, 2017, 08:29:13 PM
Let's say I had $5k I'm willing to invest in crypto.
Where would you put this money if you were to invest today?

Eth, Neo, Waves?...or just throw everything at BTC?
Diversify. 5K are more than enough to get a fairly diverse portfolio. I would combine BTC ( bigger share) with good, well established alts of your personal choice, a little of smaller coins and a dividend sharing asset if your choices are bad and you get someone to trade for you:)
50% BTC; 30% XMR and LTC; 10% KMD and XBY; 10 % TAAS. Rough estimates and the choice of coins may vary as e have plenty of choices.
334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: The first exchange support Bitcoin Gold on: October 15, 2017, 08:25:26 PM
YoBit exchange is ready for Bitcoin Gold. Balances will be added 24-26 oct.  https://twitter.com/YobitExchange

There is not any wallets support for getting bitcoin gold. No replay protection algorithm.

It is a joke Huh
If Yobit is ready. We should runaway... yobit has a good history of association with the shittiest  coins around:) I really think these forks with nothing new added to the new coins are worst than they are good. there are no free lunches and this could really hurt BTC in the future if doesn´t stop.
335  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC Price Pumps and Forks on: October 15, 2017, 08:22:28 PM
As the price of BTC is increasing on an upward trend and falls only by few bucks, short-term Alternative Coin traders are crying blood. I believe it is due to the upcoming fork. How many more forks are we expecting in the future? It seems that through forks they are pumping the price of btc and once the price becomes stagnant they will start another fork.
What would be normal was to dump the "old" fork when this is done to get better new technology. What  we are seeing with BTC is the creation of forks with nothing new to add besids more volatility and crazyness to this market. People are enjoying all the "free" money, just hope it won´t backlash and really damage BTC.
336  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: what do you think about pump and dump? on: October 15, 2017, 08:19:23 PM
Usually a pump and dump event is made by a whale or orchestrated between a few people. Usualy the small fish are there to pay for it and loose. I would be very  careful as there is a lot of money to be made but the risk is very very high.
Also beware of pump and dump free groups. They usually have a groups or core members that go first, and the sheep follow to the slaughter house...
