1041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Easy to Mine Cryptocurrency on: November 17, 2017, 03:52:03 PM
I still don't get the logic that you need heavy equipment to mine any cryptocurrency. I understand that Bitcoin has become too difficult to mine for an average Joe but even Bitcoin was minable with a simple laptop in it's early stages.

Why would that not be repeatable with less established cryptocurrencies when the difficulty level is still pretty low?

Hi, the simple answer to your last question, is, that it is repeatable, however

The trick you are missing, is that when Bitcoin came out, it was pretty much unheard of, and was only mineable initially on a cpu, and i think for its first 6 weeks, there were less than 10 people worldwide mining it, and even after that the numbers increased very slowly. It took many weeks (months i think) before some one wrote a gpu miner, and that lasted for nearly 2 years.
It was only when the value was heading towards 10 cents that people started to take note. Finally when it hit $1 people started to think about the possibility of making ASICS, i think it was about $50 before they came out. (i could be miles off, it was a long time ago)
I seem to remember this played out over nearly 2 years.

Jump to today, and not even day 1, but second 1, huge numbers of people are sat there with dedicated rigs, and ASICS ready to mine any new coin. This is mainly due to new coins being talked about on here for days if not weeks before launch. Most coins even have launch dates and quite often the ability to "test mine" first, this all leads to a huge rush, day 1
That's why the entry level is now so high...on all new coins

My advice, don't ask which coin to mine on here, simply because, if you get a response, then so do the other 1000 lurkers...try the altcoins ann / mining pages, but try page 10 onwards, cos no one reads that far, if you are lucky you may spot something others have overlooked.
Failing that use block explorers to find older coins which are much easier to mine. The rewards per block will be lower, the value per coin will be much lower, but it will enable you to get into mining as a hobby, and who knows sometimes the older coins get revamped and become worth quite a bit.

To be honest, until you decide to change from hobby miner to for-profit-miner, i would actually stay away from here initially (just too many threads), join a few exchanges, like yobit, novaexchange, etc (dont all diss me just yet), and look at the coinsinfo section of each exchange. You are bound to find some low difficulty coin that you can at least start to play with. Just don't expect to earn anything.
Once you're into it, you'll soon suss out how to find better coins, and also have a much better idea what hardware you might need to buy. For example AMD R9 270 is a great little card for all sorts of mining (great to learn on, 2nd hand a few £££) BUT it uses a huge amount of power compared to new cards.
Another tip if you just want to learn, there are loads of old bitcoin miners 10-50GH/s for literally a couple of £££ on ebay. Again you'll earn nothing, but you'll learn.

Failing that, join the masses and use either minergate or nicehash, they get dissed a lot cos they take most of your earnings, but they have been around for years, so someone likes em.

Hope this helps a little, 1 last thing....remember...have fun...
Good luck

Not again

New coin, literally no one mining it (2 maybe 3) and its getting hit with 500MH/s.....why?
Why not start with 1-5MH so that newbies get a chance.

downloaded the windows wallet and it won't sync. n opeers. i made a conf file with loads of nodes but nothing
run wallet as admin

Same issue here.

All the advertising for months, and they cant even release a working wallet.
Rubbish
Also, why the heck do we need to download 8 years worth of block chain. I already have a full Bitcoin chain can;t that be used?

1051  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Burst/Harddrive Mining? on: November 09, 2017, 07:05:57 PM
The wallets are all fixed and working.
2 seperate groups, Burst Consortium, and Burstnation.

The pools seem to be working too, after weeks of DDS attacks.

Before you get too excited thou, the diff is very high now, and the block reward not great.
You can still make money, but you need many TB. (I gave up cos i only had 20TB).
I would say realistically you want at least 10TB, but should aim for more like 50-100TB.
AWS does not work well...you need locally attached USB drives are best. Spin speed is not too important. 5400rpm archive drives work great. (usually cheapest too - take much longer to plot thou, but u only need to plot once).

As for the price, well it's 100 sat am the mo, which peeps will moan at, but it was 6 sats when i started, so i can't complain.
Will it rise, probably, mainly due to die hard miners, stabilty seems very good now, no other POC coins (yet). 4 min block times, and very low fees. (u can transfer for 1 burst)
So if u can find cheap hdds, and have very cheap electricity (still on 24/7) then what do you have to lose?.
Also, if you use an online wallet, and are not bothered about a bit of corruption, you can use old knackered drives. If you split the plots in to chunks, rather than 1 big plot per drive, then u can use duff drives, if a few sectors  get knackered, so u lose a few plot files, just chkdsk the drive, and replot...
I was using  thrown away 2TB drives, which after a full wipe and format probably gave me about 85-95% good working capacity. (just remember to let them sleep, or they will spin 24/7 and last about 2 months)
Anyways, thats my experience. Like all crypto, you makes a choice and takes a chance.

Try googling IMINEBLOCKS (youtube), he has made several vids showing his setup and his earnings at various times this year.

Guys,

Just a heads up,
I have been pushing for MMR to list some Cryptonight rigs, and today they emailed me to do some testing.
They now have a small section
https://www.miningrigrentals.com/rigs/cryptonote

I am currently testing renting out my own rig on Electroneum, feel free to have a look.

Thanks
J

How much ETN you mine/day from this rig ? it's profitable ?

Hi,
Still testing, but it will pay its costs.

1054  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CPU mining] Yenten [YTN] [Exchange avilable BTC/YTN] on: November 03, 2017, 12:27:47 PM
Nice the dude who took over 70% of the hashrate is gone!  I have an idea in the future on a cpu coin limiting the max hashrate of the network.  Does a network even really need over say 200khash to work? We could make a coin that stops giving rewards if the hashrate gets over 200khash.  Small independent miners who are spending pennies a day mining in electricity would be able to keep mining wheras big assholes and pools wouldn't be able to survive mining it...power to the little people.

I think that was a botnet as it was showing around 2000 miners and now it's just 200 so definitely it was botnet

Yup you are to the point. It really feels bad when you have little hash and people come with contract like nicehash and make sure to create hell for small miners.

It wasn't a botnet and it wasn't 2000 miners, it was 1000 ( they were mine).  The pool just disconnects them so often that it gets the count wrong.  I also crashed the pool frequently with only 1000 machines, which is pretty bad.  If the author wants to make his source public, I'll host an additional pool myself to take load away (I host other pools)

Wow, so you personally own over 1000 computers? OOr do you mean you work for a company which has 1000 computers?
is there really any point in anyone making a cpu only coin if this is the case.
How can "normal" miner possibly compete?

Are they all PC's or phone, or raspberry pi's? I'm intrigued.

tried to mine with ccminer solo. see about 5-10 "boooo" then cards stop work and miner looks like working. where is my mistake?

Just use the mining button in the wallet, or failing that open console and type setgenerate true -1

Do any one have any working nodes for the wallet. My wallet was working fine but stop, i redowload the wallet and tried the nodes from nova, but it will not get a connection. I would like to get it working, because i have all of my coins in the wallet. Nova is delisting the coin at the end of the month.

If its a windows wallet, please send me a copy and lets see what we can do between us please.
