Just curious, I see the client is renamed Phoenixcoin while it still uses the AppData from Phenixcoin. Will the AppData eventually have to be renamed to match the new Phoenix spelling?

It doesn't affect the functionality in any way, and there is a lot of work ahead, so I have left it and some other texts for later.

Thanks Ghostlander.

Also, I spoke with MaGNeT and Jeancool and they're also very happy to have you as our new coder Smiley
Didn't get a chance yet to speak to Torszy and Nawazish yet but I have a feeling they will share the sentiment.

Glad to hear that Smiley

Well, you didn't fork the Litecoin code base and apply necessary commits at GitHub. You downloaded it, modified and uploaded to GitHub. It makes difficult to track your changes. May be easier to fork either Litecoin or Feathercoin now and apply patches to make it Phoenixcoin. The genesis block and magic number are the same. It makes me wonder why you had those 20K blocks pre-mined over 11 days at near zero difficulty while you could put that 1M PXC into a single block. Of course, if you knew how to.

Well I guess your going to have to learn how to read code Kiss

Move ahead with your plans for the new domain etc, I will not turn anything over if you have anything to do with it.

I could write a few insults down, but see no point to argue with you this way. Make up your mind and figure out what exactly you want to do. I have never been your partner, so you owe me nothing. I don't want to take control over your domains or your projects or your GitHub repository or your pre-mine. I want to give PXC a fresh start to become a successful transparent coin with no hype or empty promises involved. Joerii seems to have nearly the same goals, that's why we have decided to work together for the common good. Joerii is still the community leader and I appreciate his efforts.
1163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] [PXC] Development Takeover on: October 01, 2013, 05:40:19 PM
If MaGNet or Joerii do want it, I will help them any way I can, there is some stuff in the code they need to watch for, even bushstar missed it when he coded the last fork, I had to go in and sort it before the release.

If needed I can host a forum for you  ( would be on www.pxc.altcointalk.co.uk ) unless you provide me with a domain

will include forum setup and will help you where needed but it would be up to you to manage it

If there is anything we can do to help let us know

Thanks Zack, but I'd keep with CryptocoinTalk for now. Setting up and managing a dedicated forum isn't in my current plans, there are more important things to do with PXC. I'm leaving it up to the community.

That would be nice if you could mirror the Windows client & daemon until our site is up as some people are not comfortable with MEGA or Google Drive.

www.altcointalk.co.uk/phoenixcoin-win-0.6.4.12.zip

Added, thanks.

[ANN] [PXC] Development Takeover

Time to fix this thing.
1167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] [PXC] Development Takeover on: October 01, 2013, 04:53:19 AM

Phoenixcoin

As it become apparent that the previous PXC developer, Mike Burns aka iamatrix, abandoned the project,
also took the primary web site and forum down nearly 3 weeks ago without any prior notice,
and his competence in cryptocoin development leaves much to be desired in general,
I have decided to take over the coding to bring the coin back in business.

I have fixed two critical vulnerabilities in this 0.6.4.12 release:

1) broken IRC peer discovery which in fact didn't allow new peers to connect to the network
(now works fine using any of three LFNet nodes coded in);

2) communication issue when PXC peers accepted connections from non-PXC nodes
(it was driving Qt client crazy showing progress like 300000 blocks to download).

Further changes require a hard fork to be introduced in a few weeks after research and community discussion.

[ANN] [PXC] Phoenixcoin v0.6.5.0 Released, UPGRADE REQUIRED Before Block #154000

Our new web site, Phoenixcoin.org, is online.

Any development related matters to be discussed at our forum hosted at CryptocoinTalk.

I have no insider access to PhenixEx or other half baked projects of the previous developer, so don't bother to ask me about them.

LOL I smell RATT!

doesn't make you look good , aren't you the head dev of FTC?
anyway. who cares, things come and go....but bushmonkey just makes me laugh trying to save face.

move on, next, etc. etc.

Weren't you calling people out retards, motherfuckers and tin hats a couple of pages back in this thread? Time has told who is right and who is not. Buy yourself a drink, you've been just promoted to a retarded troll.
1169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EXPOSING PHENIXCOIN: The hype and possible scam on: September 22, 2013, 04:24:38 PM
Doing my duty. Look at the price and hashing rate, its working! It's dying  Grin
Hopefully it dies for good.

UNOCS couldn't handle the scandal, PXC is dropped and the price continues to DROP  Tongue

No surprise considering their development quality. Total incompetence.

L E G I T C O I N

Network:  Approximately 80 Tera Hash per Second or 80,000 Giga Hash per Second

Mining Subsidy:  Zero.

Coins to be circulated:  10 million

Contact: info@zenithcoin.com for inquiries

what would be the purpose to mine it if the subsidy is 0 Huh

Maybe it's 100% pre-mined, a kind of Ripple Cheesy

10 millions coins will be distributed in a manner similar to Ripple.

Well, good luck Smiley You'll need it.

1172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [MIC] Preannouncement on: September 22, 2013, 12:53:50 AM
sha3. it uses keccak as one of its hashing functions. hell no it isn't scrypt based. yuck!

mix function? same as copperlark.

i've changed my mind(again) on the retarget. i'm thinking 600 blocks will be good probably. i read up about the yacoin retarget and wanted to try and use it but i think a standard retarget is the way to go.. for now. nothing is set in stone at this point. i'm veryflexible.

Keccak is referenced as SHA-3 after winning the last NIST hash function competition.

So, you have forked CopperLark and now you're tweaking it, correct?
1173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [MIC] Preannouncement on: September 22, 2013, 12:33:43 AM

2.5 Million Coins

5 minute Blocks

1 week retarget

variable rewards (ranging from .25 to 20)

250 coin premine

Sha 3 Keccak PoW

Modified Copperlark GUI

Windows Client

Linux Client

Github

First of all, Keccak is a hash function.

Second, there are Keccak-256 and Keccak-512. Which one?

Third, what mix function?

Fourth, is it scrypt based?

By the way, block target of 5 minutes with 1 week retargetting & averaging (~2016 blocks) is insane. Coin hoppers will rip you apart.
1174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Offical launch of PhenixCoin.com on: September 19, 2013, 01:19:52 AM
Not talking about the exchanges. Dont use it.
I'm talking about what johncar promised.

Forget it. If they cannot even set up nginx with a copy of their tiny web site somewhere for 5 days long, there is nothing to talk about. The whole Phenixcoin market capitalisation has tested 6K USD today, their network hash rate is about 5MH/s what means even these official guys have stopped mining it. Time to say good bye.
1175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Offical launch of PhenixCoin.com on: September 14, 2013, 09:01:57 PM
Fiat will be possible to trade with UNOCS soon as well.

UNOCS is no more. It's been nearly 2 months and what you've done so far is your exchange which is still in beta. Even your site and forum are down since yesterday and no one seems to care really.

PhenixEx will support fiat soon and after that we'll focus on building value for PhenixCoin. We'll make it a coin with practical value, i'm not talking about pumping the price, but actually making it a desirable coin to buy, use and trade.

Unfortunately, the only thing you guys are good at is talking.
1176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin Advanced Checkpointing released today on: August 30, 2013, 12:55:31 PM
That's right. But it could be almost impossible, because he can start another one, even at home PC behind the NAT. It will be interesting to see how they would try to DDoS his ISP. Roll Eyes

Wouldn't the main node, be hardcoded into the client? How could he just make a new one? He'd have to upgrade every client on the network, would he not?

Could you just read the source code? Sunny explained it well there. There are no domain names or IPs hardcoded, only the master public key. Any node may be configured into a checkpointer through its RPC interface.

Quote from: checkpointsync.cpp
Operations

Checkpoint master key can be established by using the 'makekeypair' command. The public key in source code should then be updated and private key kept in a safe place.

Any node can be turned into checkpoint master by setting the 'checkpointkey' configuration parameter with the private key of the checkpoint master key. Operator should exercise caution such that at any moment there is at most one node operating as checkpoint master. When switching master node, the recommended procedure is to shutdown the master node and restart as regular node, note down the current checkpoint by 'getcheckpoint', then compare to the checkpoint at the new node to be upgraded to master node. When the checkpoint on both nodes match then it is safe to switch the new node to checkpoint master.

The configuration parameter 'checkpointdepth' specifies how many blocks should the checkpoints lag behind the latest block in auto checkpoint mode. A depth of 0 is the strongest auto checkpoint policy and offers the greatest protection against 51% attack. A negative depth means that the checkpoints should not be automatically generated by the checkpoint master, but instead be manually entered by operator via the 'sendcheckpoint' command. The manual mode is also the default mode (default value -1 for checkpointdepth).

Command 'enforcecheckpoint' and configuration parameter 'checkpointenforce' are for the users to explicitly consent to enforce the checkpoints issued from checkpoint master. To enforce checkpoint, user needs to either issue command 'enforcecheckpoint true', or set configuration parameter checkpointenforce=1. The current enforcement setting can be queried via command 'getcheckpoint', where 'subscribemode' displays either 'enforce' or 'advisory'. The 'enforce' mode of subscribemode means checkpoints are enforced. The 'advisory' mode of subscribemode means checkpoints are not enforced but a warning message would be displayed if the node is on a different blockchain fork from the checkpoint, and this is the default mode.
1177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin Advanced Checkpointing released today on: August 30, 2013, 10:13:58 AM
Maybe it's my own many concerns with the coin coming up, but now I really think the community should see the code.

Sunny King made the ACP pull request on the 20th of August. Everyone interested could access and review the code on GitHub like I did. Verified on the testnet in the following days, no vulnerabilities were found. The patch was merged on the 25th of August and the updated client was released officially in 2 days. Those who were interested to participate, they did.
1178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin Advanced Checkpointing released today on: August 30, 2013, 12:10:38 AM
There are talks of changing the difficulty algorithm once again because it is "unfair" that certain miners get to "abuse" the rules set forth.

To change the rules again shows that the first change was not well thought out and should not have happened at all. Sorry if this is off-topic but it is essentially in the same category as this thread as it is another change being spoken about currently.

I don't think there should be any other difficulty adjustment changes. Disclosure: I am not a miner and have not been for 2 years now.

The 1st hard fork was necessary as it brought Feathercoin back in business. Many other altcoins have changed their difficulty adjustment settings. 3 months have passed, the situation is different now. It's better to evolve up to new reality than to ignore it.

There is no way to "have fun", even if checkpointing server will be stolen from the DC. If you would try to change checkpoints in the past, such attempts will be rejected by network.
If checkpointing server can be stolen and it would not make any difference, then what is the point (pun not intended) of having a checkpointing server at all?

It contradicts itself - if this checkpointing server is so important for security, then how can the theft of this server not compromise security in any way?

And here in lies the problem of having a centralized master node.

Now it boils down to mainly physical security. Our current banking system already has that problem. Only difference is they have the status quo and resources to protect their systems and Peter doesn't.

QUESTION: What would happen if the master node were to crash? Would the network come to a halt? Who or what would decide the depth of checkpointing and validate the checkpoints?

If the checkpointing server(s) security is compromised, a new pair or keys is generated, and the client is updated and distributed to users after an appropriate announcement. If the checkpointing server(s) stop to function for some reason, the network continues to operate as usual and may be 51% attacked also as usual. Only the key owner can add new checkpoints, and even he cannot undo them.
1179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Why Primecoin is Useless, Doomed to Fail? on: August 18, 2013, 11:00:23 PM
Although Primecoin follows inflationary concept, it produces not so much coins per year. 1 minute block target results in 525600 blocks per year. If the 1st year average difficulty is 11, the coin supply is 4.4 million only. By the way, it has been 40 days after the release and 1.6 million coins been mined already. Nothing wrong there.

Primecoin cannot be 51% attacked easily. It employs advanced checkpointing just like PPCoin, though it's disabled by default currently. May become mandatory at any moment with a simple client update if necessary.

If Avalon didn't sell its mining rigs and chips to the public but instead got private venture capital and mined coins for Avalon itself, it would have easily  been able to take over Bitcoin and all sha256 based cryptocurrecnies by sheer dominant hashing power.

Avalon didn't do it because, by pure luck, its founder happens to have the decentralization ideal. Avalon's 110nm technology is nothing cutting edge. I don't see why can't anyone fund a way cooler, hence more powerful, 40nm ASIC miner in a period of 6-12 months. BTC is a legal currency now. It's a viable business. If the new miners are 3 times more powerful than all Avalons, it can take over ~70% of the hashing power.  The dominant role of BTC sure makes it a lightning rod to attract attackers.

KnC ASICs are at 28nm already. Current Avalons and Erupters are becoming obsolete.
1180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Pool Software on: August 07, 2013, 04:20:54 PM
I'll keep an eye on this thread...I feel ypool is scamming people with it's strange mechanics.

I have 3 machines of about the same performance mining XPM. I have pointed one at Ypool and left two mining solo. 3 days passed, solo miners have found one block each (difficulty ~9, that's ~11 XPM per block). The 3rd machine at Ypool has only made ~2 XPM. Either they're very inefficient or you guess what.

Yeah, I'll solo mine once I install my i7 3820+x79-ud3.
What wallet? hp9?

HP7 and HP8, now HP9.
