Does the project already have competitors in this area?

no
Sia is the only decentralized cloud storage, with beta version already running
so, the one

Take a look at Oyster Pearl before you say no.

The decentralized storage is on the IOTA tangle with the transactions on the ETH blockchain.

I still think there is a spot for both of these to coexist.  The primary focus of Oyster protocol is not for storage.

Well, it is my first time to put my eye on Sia.
A naive question:
can I earn Sia according to sharing my free storage?
If so , How much will I get profit from 1TB storage per month?

Yes, hosts are paid in Siacoins when renters make use of their storage. You decide your own pricing, but as Sia is a competitive marketplace, you'll want to keep competitive prices. You can check the current average that the top 100 hosts are asking here: https://siastats.info/hosts_network, currently 40SC/TB/month

Take in mind that hosting is a serious commitment: you have uptime requirements and you risk an amount in Siacoins in collateral as a guarantee you'll keep the files and the uptime during the whole contract. Check more info about hosting here: https://siasetup.info/guides/hosting_on_sia

I expect more from Sia, with its volume reaching 1300 BTC should Sia rise slowly and reach his ATH again.

Price 500 sat is very cheap for a coin like Sia and now it has dropped as much as 100%.
Maybe next year I will see that the price of Sia can reach 1000 sat like XVG.
Which price is your expected new All time high for Siacoin? Please tell me and give me hints to take profits from Siacoin.
Last year Sia reached 800 sat and I hope the end of this year can reach 1000 sat even more.
You should ask that last month when the price touched 130 sat. You can buy it as much as possible and hold it until the end of this year.

Now also the price is still too cheap for this coin. Catch for short term, in the near future we will see the price will touch 300 sat.

Calculating only in Satoshi is still a bit misleading if you have to consider Bitcoin's price development at the same time. It's good to calculate in crypto terms, but it isn't as close to reality yet as Fiat still is.

Why need to run away from ASICS mining? Those with GPU who mine earlier have earned enough and is time for them to hodl while waiting for the price of Sia to go up.

Yes, with such trading volumes, the result should be better than now.

Yeah, I was really lucky.
I took my initial investment in Sia out when it hit the top, so now I an only leave the remaining Sia coins for my retirement Tongue
I am just angry that I didn't store it in FIAT and bought some cryptos after the meltdown in january

40sc/tb/month don't seem a good profit given the present price. 40sc ~0.8 $ which cannot afford for the electric fee.  Angry Angry

If you were planning to host with only 1TB attached to a laptop... Yeah, definitely don't do it.

However, if what you have is 16-40TB in a machine that consumes only 50W (An HP Microserver, a Raspberry Pi with disks attached) the electric consume becomes almost irrelevant. It is like mining with GPUs: just because it is not profitable with a laptop or desktop using an old GT730, it doesn't mean mining is not profitable at all: just find the appropriate hardware.

And if you have a server or a NAS that is already connected 24/7 with free space on its disks, then hosting is a awesome idea, as there are no overhead costs

Would be nice if there was a guide on how to do this. Also, sounds like something a small company could produce  and sell via resellers with a nice profit. If anybody is up to the task, I would likely purchase one.

I never used a hardware wallet before, so I'm not exactly sure how it works.
I guess there no way we can add it in ourselves huh?

No you can not, they have to develop the wallet to be compatible with the hardwaare
But SC will for sure be one of the main cryptos that will have support on hardware walets, just be patient
Untill than, use the official SC from the official web site, to store safe your coins

If you don't believe it or don't get it, I don't have the time to try to convince you, sorry.

Agreed a hardware wallet would be great.  Hopefully Trezor gets on board this year.  It couldn't hurt to open a support ticket and ask nicely. Wink

I wonder if it is a big deal for them from a technical perspective to add more coins. Shouldn't it be quite straight forward?

Yes, it seems that I should have the customized rigs. But it is still not attractive for me. Using the money to buy the rigs, I'd like to buy the coins directly.

I'm going to do that shortly, but i think it would help if more people asked for it as well. If they see there enough support for it, they might actually add it on

really batch 5?

When, if I remember correctly you sold SIX total Siacoin SC-1 miners in batch 4?

5 batches with NO units in the world yet...this is starting to look a lot like the old Butterfly Labs...back in the day...

Do we even have more or less (I'll take more or less at this point) SHIPPING DATES? For both the Obelisk Siacoin Units and the Obelisk Decred units?

Also, I'm still waiting for the next 'shoe to fall' and a Bitmain DECRED unit ....in June 2018....the usual way to do this is just drop it on their page,

pretty sure this will happen, Bitmain DROPS equivalent units at lower prices for every company that tries to make an ASIC to compete...can't see

how this will be any different...

to be fair have 5 obelisk sc-1 units (batch 1) and I have 1 obelisk Decred  unit (free...swap'd my 1/2 price coupons for it..using 1 /2 price coupon myself, rest covered)

thus.....my skin in the game...as it is...
