Religion consist of two words. Re- which mean again, repeat. Legion means to draw back, relegare to bring back. The function of religion is to bring people back to God.

I agree with this one , religion are not essential for a civilizations. For some reasons religion is the main cause why people kill each other , because they have differents beliefs that they teach people. I think there are 3 Religious Functions namely:
1.As a means of education.
