Yes ,you are right. Olympics is best for teams to learn and there should be more team like there should be 20 teams . When small teams will play against big teams then they will learn from big teams and this tournament could promote cricket in small countries which have no interest. Agreed. Given that the format is T2OI, there should be at least 20 teams. On top of that, no team should get direct entry. Each and every team (including the full members) should play the qualifier tournament. The ICC seems to have different plans though. They are asking for a 6-team competition, and one of the teams would be the United States of America (since they are the hosts). And as per the ICC, there is no need for a qualifying tournament and teams will qualify based on their ranking.

As the number of teams increases in the T20 World Cup, I think the competition will increase. In the previous World Cup, we saw many new teams perform quite well, so if some new teams get the opportunity to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup, I think they will definitely do something good. If the number of teams increases in the T20 World Cup, then the ICC should group three or four teams and each team should play against each team in the group that will be formed, and the best two teams from each group will ensure the next round. That's an interesting take. It's understandable that they can't host long tournaments of cricket in Olympics and 6 teams for both men and women is still a good thing as cricket is back for the 2nd time since 1900. This is a historical achievement for cricket as a sports. It's going global.
They could have selected the teams through a double qualification from 2026 T20 world cup but this time it's going to be a super 8 instead of 6. Selection through rankings too would not be a good idea as we know the current ranking system has its flaws and doesn't necessarily reflect the overall global team performance. The best thing they could do is select the top 6 from the Top 8 groups in the T20 world cup by their final positions.

That could be one of the options. But I am not that happy with this option, because a total of 12 teams get direct qualification for the 2026 T20I World Cup. Only the remaining 8 countries are selected through regional qualifiers. In the end, we get the best 6 teams but I would rather prefer a fresh qualifier for all the teams.
