Thank you Sir, may I have another one.
You may.

Actually, your argument is based on bullying, not logic of the game.
No, my insults are based on bullying. My arguments are based on the logic of the game, specifically the logic that a knight is worth more than a pawn (especially at this stage of the game), and a rook and knight combined are worth far more than a bishop. Do you really not see that?

Irregardless, nobody else thinks your plan is sensible, and the majority vote is all that matters. We have five votes for h3 (Taras, scruffy scruffington, ErisDiscordia, boolberry, and myself), four votes for b3 (languagehasmeaning, dre1982, actmyname, and XMRpromotions), one vote for Nd2 (gotmilk_), one vote for e5 (abacus), one vote for Ng5 (jjacob), and one vote for Nxb5 (Timelord2067).

By your own counting, the four single votes are tied in second place so not a very clear majority...

...and there seems to be a flurry of late b3 votes voting you down.  Cheesy

How about f4e3? Pin that pawn. I like that better.

And after Ng5 you now have to retreat the bishop to an even more passive square as putting it back on f4 allows e5.

I think that is the idea of most of the people voting for h3. They are worried about Ng4 attacking the Bishop after Be3 (f4e3 like you say) and want to prevent it by playing h3 first.

Use your queen to take what pawn? We are discussing the pawn on c5 that would be pinned by the bishop after Be3. Have you decided to give up your Nxb5 sacrifice idea now in favor of sacrificing your Queen or Bishop for a pawn on c5?

What are you trying to accomplish? It seems like you want to give away our pieces on purpose

I take that back, f4e3 is bad. Still working on this. Guess we could cheat and use some programs and see what the ai's choices are. Tongue Lets ask Big Blue. Cheesy

OK, I take back my votes but think we should try to get those rooks into play. I'll wait for the next move to vote. So I will do no vote this move as I don't want to hurt the effort.

My comment was not about your f4e3 move (Be3) but about your comment of using your bishop to take that pawn (do you mean the pawn on c5?)

I knew you were joking:) My comment was directed to others who may wonder the same thing and have not read the entire thread.

I agree with you that getting our rooks active is important. The harder question is finding the best way to activate them. The c and d files still seem like the most likely place they will see action.

Is anybody else interested in Ng5?
If it was a local game, I would have played it. I am not sure if it is the right move against a Grand Master.

Black can just play h6 and force you to retreat.

If your idea is to eventually play d4 (or dxc4 after c4) opening the queen and then e5 hoping the f6 knight will move so you can play Qxh7 check, it wont work. If it does work it will prove we are not really playing a GM.

Fair point. It was a long shot.
I will change my move to h3.

d2 then depending d1? At least we can get them out before we're under too much pressure? I have not played in over 15 years so don't let me sway anyone I'm just thinking out load here. And even then i wasn't any good. Cheesy

OP are you willing to confirm or deny that you are Eljanov?

* Maimdiarove's name is butchered horribly all the time and the correct spelling is unknown
I feel like Nakamura would be the bitcoin contender on this list. I don't know if that's our secret grandmaster, but I can hope Smiley

Instead of Nakamura why not his opponent live right now?
http://en.chessbase.com/post/interview-with-pavel-eljanov
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavel_Eljanov

Nakamura vs Eljanov started 30 min ago
https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tournaments/baku-world-cup-2015#live

Some evidence:
http://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2015-worldcup/04-3-Jakovenko_Dmitry-Eljanov_Pavel (look at first 6 moves and compare to our game)

Exact same opening today in Nakamura vs Eljanov except he played Bd7 instead of Nbd7 on move 5?

If he afraid Nakamura is reading this thread and getting all his ideas (and switched his 5th move to throw him off)?

Will many GMs start following this thread now?

WTF!

Some of you guys also follow the World Chess Cup?

There are some very nice games already be played an there will also be a lot of nice games. I follow the games by Chessbomb.

I am watching it. OP is playing in it! We don't know who he is but he has provided a few clues

ow nice. And who do you think it is? OP still playing at the last 16?

Your guess is as good as mine. These are the clues I have seen so far

1. He is not Magnus Carlsen:
Quote from: letsplayagame link=topic=1148538.msg12132767#msg12132767
Here is a recent chess related news story that may interest some of you.
[url
http://www.chess.com/news/magnus-carlsen-proposes-different-world-championship-format-2693

Before you draw any conclusions, I will give you one hint regarding my identity. I am not Magnus Carslen

2. He is not Ed Trice (impossible per #4)
I am not Ed Trice.

3. He is not Bruzón Batista (impossible per #4)

It also looks like our esteemed opponent does not wish to confirm or deny that he is Bruzón Batista. I figured I was right.

I prefer not to confirm or deny every guess or I may reveal myself quickly.   However I can deny in this case since I already provided a clue that eliminated him as a possibility (based on current ratings):

4. Rated over 2700
OP, are you a GM, IM, ranked on 2700chess, etc?
Yes I am a GM and ranked on that list.

5. He won round 1 in Baku
Quote from: letsplayagame link=topic=1148538.msg12409552#msg12409552
Another small hint regarding my identity. I won my round 1 match in Baku:
[url
http://www.bakuworldcup2015.com/

I don't plan to announce my results from my round 2 match because that would significantly narrow down the number of people I could be.

We don't know how he did in round 2 or 3 but most (maybe all?) people rated over 2700 were paired down in round 2 implying he had a >50% chance of advancing past round 2.

6. He is not Viswanathan Anand because he decided not to play in Baku

7. He is not Gata Kampsky (upset in round 1) but his current rating is below 2700 anyway (impossible per #4). From the top of my head I am not aware of any more major upsets of people in round 1 or people over 2700 who did not show up (aside from Carlsen and Anand already mentioned).

8. He is not satoshi (we don't know if Satoshi is a chess player or not but it would be funny if letsplayagame and satoshi played each other and were unaware of each others identities):
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3lj2t9/long_term_goal_promoting_bitcoin_usage_for/cv757pc

If I am right it means that letsplayagame (Eljanov) just took out world #2 Nakamura (won yesterday and drew today to win 1.5-.5) and has advanced to the World Cup Semi Finals

If your idea is to eventually play d4 (or dxc4 after c4) opening the queen and then e5 hoping the f6 knight will move so you can play Qxh7 check, it wont work. If it does work it will prove we are not really playing a GM.

I don't think that such kind an attack is a bad idea. Look at beautiful king's gambit in Morozevich-Anand http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1018654, for example, both of them are GMs.)

Now there is only 1 black figure at the king side. So if we could manage to place or direct 3-4 our figures to that side and could not afraid to spend 1-2 figures for the pawns during an attack, it could be nice game.)

That's why I like h3, when we will open b1-h7 with e5, we will simultaniously force black knight to move out of the kingside.) But I'm afraid it will be difficult to force community to try the attack with sacrifices and without clear perspective.
