I also vote for 24. Qd1.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

What do you guys think of this -    23.Nxd7 Rxd7   24.Qd1 Rd8  25.Nc1 c4     then maybe look at ideas with Qg4 threatening Bxh6 (trying to infiltrate his king side with our queen while his is at the other side of the board)

24.Qd1 looks as good as any of the other options I can think of (like 24. Nc1). I can't find any way to solve our current problems. Every variation I see involves us losing a pawn sometime in the next several moves. After our d3 pawn is gone, suddenly his queen seems well developed on a8! Our e4 pawn is about to become a target.

24.Nc1 allows for an immediate c4 push (with tempo because our Queen is still on b3), if we then move to d1, he has more options, for example he can decide to capture on d3. In the variation I suggested, when the c4 push occurs, our Queen is already on d1, so we are the ones with the extra option.

Thanks for the link - Have downloaded and played a couple of online games (although I still can't turn the against the computer countdown timer off, just to a real long time to play).

A little clunky and the end game needs work on the code, but will stick with it and might even register in a while. (one online player was a bit impatient, but still beat me against the clock with seven seconds left to play).

Thanks again.

Yes Qd1 now looks best.

There is a threat of c4 to win a pawn. d4 does nothing as there is just Bxe4.

Ra3 is pointless - c4 follows anyway. After an exchange the e4 pawn also can fall.

Nc1 is really bad and allows c4 anyway.

You guys figure this one out.

I'll just be here to give insight.

Nc1 is bad for us but is probably still our best move. I think we are close to losing. I vote Nc1

We kept the material balance for a long time but I am disappointed we never got any serious counterplay. Being on the defense against a player this good is tough.

I found the answer to the problem but I will wait longer to give others a chance.  I like the way that all the pieces are involved in the attack!

Puzzle solution  :    Ne7+  Kh8    Rxh7+  Nxh7    Bxc6  dxc6    Qxh7+  Kxh7    Kg2#

Wow totally loved that one!!  Smiley

I just wanted to say thanks for being so awesome as to bring top level chess to the forum here. I get the impression that a lot of strong players feel it's a waste of time to play weaker opponents (something I don't really understand, personally I find analyzing variations fun regardless of the level of my opponent)

EDIT - I probably should include this disclaimer along with my proposed 'solution'  Tongue -  I am not 100% certain this is the correct solution as it is not a forced mate and black could decide to give up his queen. I just feel that white should have enough resources to win (albeit in more moves) even if black plays Qxc6 and then maybe f5 or g6. I could be wrong though I haven't looked at those variations enough.

Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed the problem.

Great work on finding the right idea but look closely at your move order for an even better option in case black decides to give up the queen to stop mate. In some chess problems every move is a check leaving few options for the opponent. Things are not always so clear in real games. Adding some uncertainty by giving one side an option to give back material in order to stop mate can be helpful training.

Below I made a slight modification of the chess problem to illustrate my point.  Checkmate can now be forced in 6 moves. Although the mating line is one move longer than the variation you gave in the original problem, there is greater clarity due to no ability of black to stop checkmate.

People who already saw your proposed solution of the original problem can still try to solve this one. The shortest forcing line will look slightly different.

My head is spinning with the chess problem; my line of thought was similar to obscurebean's.

I will vote for Nc1 as well

b3 - 1 vote (Timelord2067)
Nc1 - 2 votes (XMRpromotions, jjacob)
