They defeated the top team of the Italian Italian League, Inter Milan, in the play-off match in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, so it seems that the German league team may not underestimate this club as they will want to ensure a win in the first match of this UCL season.

It was as if the whole big teams that are suppose to dominate their games during the weekend had a meeting not to perform well, what a way to shock the fans and viewers. Bayern Munich did the unthinkable by playing a goalless which I wasn't expecting because of the history the two clubs have, but looking at it from another angle, Schalke 04 did well to hold Bayern to a draw because they are the underdog in that encounter and getting a point is better than losing the whole 3pt. Who knows how this draw will transform the way Schalke 04 will be handling their remaining games, for Bayern I'd say is disappointing display maybe next game they'd try to cover up for their mistake starting with their champions league game.

Getting a draw with Bayern munich was a thing joy for the schalke 04 team and a sad moment for Bayern munich team, there is this joy in a team after dominating a match and wins it, Bayern munich dominated the match but still didn't win but got a draw. I think schalke 04 targeted a draw instead of losing so their strategy was to play defensively by ensuring that no matter what they will defend till the final whistle by the referee. Bayern munich is going to win their uefa champions league match because that is where they will have more focused on this season because for the Bundesliga title i think they don't have any rivals to challenge them for the title.

Before the match, everyone thought Bayern Munich would score at least three goals, but surprisingly, the game ended goalless.

Yeah. It's pretty normal for people to think München would win by more than 3 goals because in the last two matches München won by big scores. So against a promoted team like Schalke people also thought München would win big but in reality the result was a draw.

But in my opinion, this draw was purely because Kompany underestimated Schalke by benching players like Olise, Kane and Musiala. Maybe Kompany thought this match would be easy to win, so he saved players for facing Bodo in the UCL tomorrow. But in reality, Schalke played very solid in this match. Bundesliga teams always defend when they play against Bayern, but this is the first time Bayern couldn't break through and got stuck in scoring goals. Schalke was insanely good, especially their goalkeeper Loris Karius, who also performed really impressively. Loris Karius was the best goalkeeper when he was at Anfield, but unfortunately, he dropped after the Champions League final and never fully regained his confidence. But seeing his performance with Schalke he seems to be back to his old self.

This was his first game back of the season, for Musiala. Having a preseason knee problem. He was not dropped. He was not fit enough to start. He came on late, and you could see that he was still working out the kinks.

The reality of what actually went on was rather insignificant. Schalke was in the crease, compact, and aggressive in their defence, yet very dull looking in its beauty. They did not want the ball. All they wished to do was not concede. And it worked.

If the backup attackers of Bayern fail, well, that is fine. But the question nobody is asking... Would the first choice ones have done better against a team that literally refused to come out of their own half?

These games are indispensable to make the championship sparkling, we are talking about a simple draw it is true, but this result changes the score, and that is what matters in the season.
Schalke 04's next match will be against Union Berlin, as expected at this point they should get at least a draw if not a win, I'm getting more interested in the Bundesliga to place my bets and Schalke is one of those I'm looking at.

Well, I would rather distinguish between "did Schalke's defense work" or "did Bayern's offense not work" and I am sure it was the latter. If they play this game ten times, Bayern wins it nine times. Schalke didn't follow a specific plan, they did what they were forced to do and then got lucky that Bayern couldn't finish them off. This happens once every few years to Bayern. See how many games in a row they scored a goal and now did not score at all. That statistical fact alone was speaking against Schalke, but yes it worked out for them. Now is this the message to them that they can get away with this gameplay when they meet Bayern in the second half of the season? No Can they do anything else other than defending? Also no. This point was a present from the holy football god and not really the fruits for the great Schalke performance

I was a bit greedy and placed a late goal order (over 6.5)! Unfortunately my min odds were a bit too high - so I never got matched

But what an epic battle that was and also not really surprising that both teams went for the win in the end and just forgot about defending.

Bayern didn't score any in their last game so I expect a few goals from them but I don't see Elversberg scoring that much and they certainly won't go for an end-to-end game against Bayern else it won't end well that's why I don't think it'll be a game of many goals. For a team like Schalke sharing points with Bayern is a big step towards their progress in the league. I agree with you a bit. But Schalke's defense was in a good position and Bayern Munich attacked a lot and controlled the whole match but they could not win. But yes, after watching this match, we may feel that Bayern Munich is more focused on winning the UCL and that is why we saw such results on the field.

There was absolutely no way anyone could predict the outcome of this game to be a draw with full confidence, especially not after Bayern beat Stuttgart with 5 goals in their opening match. The atmosphere was more like Bayern will do a house warming welcome to Schalke 04, given the fact that they just got promoted into the big boyz league. I guess Vincent Kompany either miscalculated or underrated them, which is why he left some of the key players on the bench at first and that has had a serious backlash on the attacking chemistry of the team. Well, this draw is a wake up call for them that every game matters.
