I have no idea about cricket, and I do not want to start wars but no way is cricket ever as thrilling as tennis! For me, if you stop to have tea and you have overweight people playing,,, it is never going to be a sport to challenge something like tennis;)

I just realized I missed the epic Wimbledon final yesterday. I almost forget that it was yesterday, I was too busy to watch the world cup final. That was another epic final happening in the same time in World Cup Cricket.

The cricket fan witnessed the best ever cricket battle in between New Zealand and England. It never happened before. Both team did not lose the match but when there were nothing left to find a winner then they decided to give the world cup to England because they scored more boundaries in the final.

And here after looking at the score I realized, tennis world also witnessed a historical match. After looking at the score I gone for point by point score and man(!!) both Djokovic and Federer played their match of the life! I can not believe my eyes what I was seeing. The last set games wow! then the tie break.



England as a country should be proud of hosting two epic match is two different sports in the same day.

How long they battled?
 

I too missed the Wimbledon final only because i was watching the Cricket world cup final yesterday. Also all the sports channel in my country were showing the cricket match as cricket is more popular sports here. Anyways i have heard this tennis match was one of the best and i will surely watch its highlights on youtube.

The cricket world cup was a heavily contested and very close match and one funny thing that was an instant hit was that the losing captain of New Zealand Kane Williamson and Roger Federer share the same birth date 8th of August and both were on the loosing side even though Federer won 36 games and Djokovic won just 32 games and still lost the match  . Either way it was a epic day for sports fans to see those two great battles, i was watching both the matches in split screen and it was epic.

That was the longest finals I've ever seen. The two of the legends never looked tired playing for hours. A total entertainment. As thrilling as the English cricket final match with New Zealand.
But what was the counting after they reached 11 all. Shouldn't it be a 2 point difference to win the tie breaker.

There is no need to compare tennis and cricket and which sports is more thrilling than the other. Both sports are meant for different type of audience and it is your interest whether you like cricket or tennis or both.

Although Djokovic  did win but we never saw at any moment where Federer gave up. He fought right till the end and eventually a winner has to be decided after 12:12 in the 5th set and Djokovic got that last important point.

Well Deserved win for Novak.
As a Federer fan I recognize that Djokovic was better and he fairly won Wiblendon. One more time Federer showed that he is a top player ever, and despite his age he is still competitive.

Each sport has his good sides. I missed formula 1 cuz it was in same time but watch rerun of it. Tennis was more then epic can remember when they play like this two of them.
Belive they had many matches in the past but this on was record in many things.

Yes, Djokovic is the man to beat no question about it and I'm sure that you will agree that he can overtake Roger's record for most Grand Slam titles.

In my house everyone is cricket fan and no one understand Tennis so even if I would have this in mind to split screen then I could not do that. I will have this regret always that I missed one legendary battle while I was watching another legendary battle for a different sports.

I will need to find a copy of the full match of this final or at-least the record of the fifth set and the tie break.

There's no point of discussing a better sport. Cricket is one of the popular team sport while Tennis is one of the best individual or dual sport.
As of the popularity, Tennis is much more popular in global context while Cricket is fairly popular in south Asia.

You are right now time for Federer to give up because he was good but suddenly done too many mistakes and allow to Djokovic to win even Djokovic was not in his best form even once I was thinking he is going to lost badly but he done great job and won this match.

This match is the longest 4 hours 47 minutes something extraordinary especially for Federer who can still play well even though he finally lost.
Statistically the match Federer played better than Novak, Federer and Novak met 3 times in the Wimbledon final and Federer was unable to defeat Novak 1 though.
Of all the epic respect for both, Novak was very respectful of Federer as seen from him who did not celebrate excessively.

That's exactly the reason why Federer is the top player in the world despite the fact that he does not win the title in the end.
He is in the age of 40 and he can compete Djokovic equally.
We are very lucky that we live in the Era of watching them play tennis.

Finally it was a good play, in most of the finals Federer used to meet Nadal. Novak and Federer haven't faced on more finals. Federer is completely a never give up person, but at some point the gameplay of Novak was quite superior to the performance of Federer. Once the match got turned it is truly hard to get it back to the track on tennis. So, from beginning to the end there should be consistency. When this gets missed its the missing of the game.

There is no doubt that Federer is the greatest of all time however we are seeing that Djokovic isn't very far behind him and I even rank Djokovic ahead of Nadal because Djokovic has won more Grand Slams on different surfaces where as Nadal has won all he's Grand Slams mostly on clay which in my opinion isn't a very good record. Yes he is the king of clay but it would look better if he won more Grand Slams on other surfaces like Djokovic and Federer.

But yeah, having witnessed the best tennis players in this era like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, it is a privilege and we are indeed very luck. If everyone likes one spot then there is no issue, conflict of interest comes when the other person like Tennis and another one likes to watch cricket  , it will be one heck of a situation, i have recorded the entire match as i was certain that England is going to win by a narrow margin but never expect the match to be this close and declare the winner because ICC said so  i made a bet on Federer v Djokovic and hence it was nerve wrecking for me when Djokovic lost the second set 6 to 1 i was thinking that Djokovic fucked me over once again as i lost a lot of bet during 2017 .

Man! Talking about betting it reminds me the nightmare memory of this cricket world cup. I have lost over 0.1BTC. In the England vs Sri Lanka match alone I have lost 0.05BTC :-(

The strengths of both player in any surface is also a indication how great they really are as compare to Nadal's amazing run on clay specially on French open. But currently, for me it is still Federer, at the top of my list.

He is only 32 and surely can play on current high level next 4-5 years, enough to surpass all records from Federer and Nadal.
I think that in this final Djokovic shoved why he is the best and why Federer and Nadal don't have chance against him.
His mental strength and self-confidence are unsurpassed.

Just think back to when Federer and Nadal were winning all their Grand Slams, they didn't really have much competition where as Djokovic has had to play and beat arguably the two best players ever and not once but on a number of occasions. We can also put Murray into the mix up there with Federer and Nadal so when we look at it, Djokovic has played and won in an era that is a lot tougher then when Federer and Nadal started to win their Grand Slams.

I totally understand your point. Competition has really step up in the last decade. Roger just caught Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi at the end of their career as compare to Djokovic who had to face a prime Nadal or Roger himself.

But if order to really settle the argument, if he can beat Roger's record (and I'm sure he will), then I think there is no doubt that he will surpass Roger's greatness.
