Talking about injuries, Rafael Nadal suffered another one today and he was forced to withdraw at the Paris Master, he cited a abdominal injury so I guess Djokovic could make a good run and end up as the number 1 player at the end of the year. Raonic also withdraw from his match against Federer because of elbow injury so Roger is going through the next round.
Djokovic is already world no.1 now and the season is almost come to a close. Djokovic should stay world no. 1 comfortably at the year end. Im still waiting for these young players to show up big, but as of now.. its still Djoker, Fedex, Nadal era. Cant wait for Murray to be proper fit too.

Well now that Nadal has pulled out of the Paris Masters, Djokovic will now become world number #1 after the tournament is over as the rankings don't update during a tournament. I had this feeling that Nadal shouldn't of played but at least it wasn't his knee but again we don't know for sure as they say its abdominal injury. I actually think he wasn't right to go to start with but I guess he wanted to give it a go and see if he can get through. The match between Coric and Thiem was a great match to watch with the match going to three sets. Nishikori had a great win over Anderson and like I mentioned in my previous post, he has a chance to break into the top 10 if he does well in this tournament, so far he is looking good to do so and maybe finish the year off in the top 10.

This is sad news for Nadal fans I remember a while back we had discussed the possibilities of him coming back too soon and being injured, and now our fears have turned out to be true. Djokovic has an excellent chance to end the year being No.1 cause when Nadals back he'll take it back from him, it'll be interesting if Roger and Djokovic come across in Semis or Finals as we'll know Roger is planning his retirement, at this stage I don't think he'll continue playing for long now.

@ vennali , vella85 - Yeah that's right, Djokovic will end the year at the top. Just imagine a few months ago, he was rank like 20+ if I'm not mistaken but came back, and came back strong winning titles that push him on top and regain his confidence. So its really good to see him at #1 again.
Juggy777 - Sadly though its Nadal turn to have this injuries in worst time. Yes, we have discussions from the past and I read that its not his intention to be the number 1 at the end of the year, he just wanted to compete however, its a different injury this time, so he has no choice but to take rest.
Wasn't able to watch any match lately but I read that Federer and Djokovic are through into quarter-finals. Looks like the rest of the seeded players are all doing good as well.

There was a big upset today with A. Zverev the 4th seeded player losing to unseeded Karen Khachanov in straight sets. Zverev simply was no match for Khachanov as he won 1-6 2-6 which in my book is a dominating performance by the Russian. There is a match going on right now between Nishikori and Federer with Federer currently leading 1 set to 0 and is up 2 games to 0 in the second set so unless Nishikori can turn it around quickly it looks like Federer will be going through to the semi finals to face Djokovic who won earlier today in 3 sets.

Djokovic has beaten Federer in three sets and what a match it was with two of the three sets going to tie breaks. In the other semi-final there was an upset with the Russian Karen Khachanov beating Thiem in straight sets, Thiem was down today on his first serves at just 55% and on wins with second serves at 32% which saw him lose the match as Khachanov dominated in these areas of the match and deserved the win. Now can he do it again against Djokovic in the final? I don't think so but with the form Khachanov has been in this tournament, it wouldn't surprise me. If Djokovic wins we will see a newly crowned number #1.

WOW! A major upset in the Paris Masters final with Khachanov upstaging Djokovic winning in straight sets. I really think the Federer match took its toll on Djokovic as that was an epic match going for 3 hours and both players said that it was one of their best matches all year. But lets not take anything away from Khachanov who has been in fine form this whole tournament beating some of the best players in tennis and now beating the number #1 ranked player in the world, well Djokovic is still ranked number #2 but after the rankings are updated he will be number #1. So a big congrats to Khachanov on the huge win!

Indeed, this is a big upset, Khachanov we can't take anything from him. Although I see reports that Novak says that he has been ill for the past couple of days and maybe Yes, the match against Federer really push his body to the limits that's why he feel sluggish against his match to Karen Khachanov. But we all know that Djokovic will remain the number 1 player so he can take 'consolation' about that.

Yeah it could of been that Djokovic was feeling ill the last couple of days but he looked fine to me when he was playing against Federer so I'm just not sure about his statement on this. Maybe its true and like you said the Federer match took its toll on his body and that is why he was sluggish in his match with Khachanov. On another note, I wonder what Nadal will do now that he is ranked number #2, to be honest there is no point him playing on this year and now should rest up ready for 2019. What do you guys think?

https://www.express.co.uk/sport/tennis/1040752/Novak-Djokovic-Karen-Khachanov-Paris-Masters-final. Well Djokovic doesn't want to talk about it because he doesn't want to take everything from Khachanov. I mean, people will see it as an excuse but Khachanov really play that good. On another note, I wonder what Nadal will do now that he is ranked number #2, to be honest there is no point him playing on this year and now should rest up ready for 2019. What do you guys think?
Its better for him to take the rest. No need to forced his body, remember he has 2 injury already, the knee and now the abdominal strain. Well the knee injury is already career threatening and the only way to heal it is to take a lot of rest so that it won't get aggregated. So its better for him to take the remaining months off and come fresh in 2019.

Also its best that he now rests as there isn't really much to play for now, yes there is a chance that Nadal can regain the number #1 ranking but with the form Djokovic is in, I can't see that happening. Nadal would need to win at least 2 more tournaments with Djokovic not making the finals of either of the tournaments so the smart decision would be to rest up ready for 2019 and the first major of the year, the Australian Open.

It would be also interesting to see how Andy Murray's is recuperating with his hip injury as well. We all know that he wasn't fully recovered when he started his comeback in June and we see how it went with his campaign. So I do hope that he is doing good as of the moment, and entirely forgot 2018 and moved and look different in 2019 so that we can witnessed another great tennis year of the top 4. I think 2019 will still be dominated by this guys specially the big tournaments, so its fun to see those 4 trying to upstage each other. Of course I'm not discounting the young players, but when they usually broke down specially at big stage.

Yes I would be interested to also know how Murray is going as I haven't seen or heard anything about his recovery, maybe his staying low key for now until he feels like he is getting better. Murray has been the forgotten player this year as he has been out for most of the season so it would be nice to see him return in 2019 bigger and better then ever. I'm thinking the same with the big name players dominating the Grand Slams next year but I really do hope that the young talent can start to shine in the Grand Slam tournaments.

But the thing is, its hard not to compare Djokovic recovery to him, that's why he really need to show something and something big next year otherwise yeah, he might be forgotten. As for the young talent, well they proved their point this year, but its really hard to see them competing against this veterans specially in Grand Slam. But we can't discount and maybe, just maybe we can see someone just above the rest of the young talents to emerge like Khachanov, Shapovalov, Zverev, Kyrgios, Thiem, Edmund and Tsitsipas.

Those guys are not getting any younger and knee injury and one of the worst injury a player can have. Obviously with the advance of science it can be operated and fix, but I doubt it will go back to its normal way. Its time for the upcoming tennis star to take the crown for those seasoned and ageing top players like Nadal and Federer.

I guess Nadal's body is really taking a lot of beatings specially about his knee. We all know that this body part is one of the most abused for sports player so maybe it really gives out, but the timing is so bad. I'm sure that if the knee heals very quick, he will go back to his tennis and compete with those guys. Yes, seems strange not to see him specially in big tennis competition so its going to be a pity and tennis fans will miss him play. So lets just hope that the knee operation and rehabilitation is successful so at least we can watch him for the next big event in 2019.

All this talk about injury always makes me shudder inside. Knee injury especially. I'm not and never was in any alternate universe a professional sports player but even my own injuries took their toll, not just physically but mentally. Never had the confidence to play badminton (yes, laugh) after recurring shoulder injury, while my foot/ankle injury just took away all my confidence to sprint or launch into tackles in football. I know they got the best docs on them, so hopefully Nadal gets well, he's almost my age too so feel for him!
I got 2 players I really like playing right now. The Croatians had a good year in tennis so I booked Cilic for a win, good value at over 2/1, even though it's really very evenly matched. Leading first set 3-1 now. Bet won't settle until much later tonight though... parlayed against my fav Serbian (haha) Djokovic to win with -3.5 games handicap. Easy on paper but Isner's not a Rank 10 for nothing.
