I feel that Medvedev  (who already became "black cat " for Djokovic) and Thiem will soon replace "Big 3" and become new champions.
Djokovic,  Nadal and Federer are to long on the top and people wants to see new players on the top.
They are still young and need more experience and stability but they will come on the top eventually,  in a few years.

I do hope that Medvedev will continue his strong showings, specially on a bigger stage. We have seen lots of potential players to really challenge the "Big 3", but all of them came short when they are in a Grand Slam that's why the Djokovic, Nadal and Federer continues to dominate the tennis world even at their age. If Medvedev goes on to win the US Open, then I would say yes, so it will be very interesting to see how he will do in this year US Open. Do I really wanted to see new players coming up? Definitely, but they need to prove it by winning the big tournaments in tennis.

I totally agree as we have been talking about this on here for over a year now. Every time we think that one of the up and coming young talent is going to win a Grand Slam they don't because of the pressure from the top 3. I also think a lot of it is to do with being nervous playing Nadal, Djokovic and Federer in big matches like Grand Slam finals and that is why we always see the young talent lose as that is when the top 3 bring their A game where as the lead up tournaments I don't think they worry about so that is why we always see the up and coming guys beat the top 3. Lets hope we start to see a change in the US Open, we are yet to see Nadal in action so he will be fresh and ready to go for the US Open.

Exactly, we have sounded like a broken record here for years. Those young players need to really step up the plate against the big 3 otherwise they will continue to dominate this game and show their experience. Medvedev is already on the stage wherein he had matured already and have the capability to face the top 3 in the biggest show, the US Open. I think the qualifiers has started,  and the top seeds are:

1. Djokovic
2. Nadal
3. Federer
4. Thiem
5. Medvedev

Yeah we have my friend, I was looking back in this thread and I can't believe how fast time goes by as it has been a couple of years now since we started talking about the young talent. At the time it was players like Kyrgios, Thiem and Zverev who should all be challenging for Grand Slams and even winning but we are yet to see this. Medvedev has stepped up recently and looks to be the best chance for the up and coming guys as even though Thiem is ranked 4th seed I don't think he is all that good on hard courts just yet and is more suited to clay so I don't like he's chances in the US Open.

It looks like his very positive on his chance on the upcoming US Open. And that what's separate elite tennis players from the good ones. Elite players are very optimistic with there chances of winning another grandslam as opposed to many talented players we have right now, they don't have the mentality of champions like the big 3 and that is the main reason why they falter in this Grand Slams.

That is interesting to read that Federer feels that he is at he's best in years coming into this years US Open. To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing him win it again as it has been over 10 years since he last won the US Open so it would be nice to see him win it maybe for the last time.

His mind set is really different and I think that is one factors that really sets him apart, and that winning attitude. He still challenges himself to be great every tournament and games, just like Tom Brady. Just like him, Tom even at 42, the competitive fire is still there and despite winning more trophies, both of them are hungrier. I would also like to see Roger win another US Open and that will be a feather in his cap if ever he retires. This is also interesting for Osaka, she won last year, but 2019 doesn't look good for her. And remember the umpire that worked last year between Osaka and Williams? He will not be working for either of the sister in this year's US Open.

I actually think that the young talent can win a Grand Slam before the big 3 retire, they just need to control their nerves when playing the big 3 in Grand Slams as they have shown that in other tournaments they can beat the big 3 however I don't think they play at their best in the other tournaments. I can see that after the big 3 retire that the Men's side will become like the Women's and we'll see many different players winning Grand Slams like we see on the Women's side. I said a while ago that I think Djokovic will surpass Federer in the future which we could see in the next 2 years.

@Kemarit

I agree my friend, Federer is very like Brady as they keep going and want to win even at their ages. I think age doesn't mean anything in sports any more as the mind is very powerful and if the player/s have the right mindset they can go on for how ever long they like as long as they body stays healthy.

Federer always had an attitude of never giving up irrespective of the situation, you’ll never see him complain or make excuses for his loss. If he’s determined to win the US open then he may just win it too, even at this age he’s yet hungry for success and yet wishes to add to his trophy collection. @vella85 there’s no news about him retiring, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned up next year to play in this tournament.

Well said. Federer as I have know is a real gentlemen and a player with sportsmanship. Unlike many other players, It's rare to see his temper in the field. His positivism has kept him playing even in this time of his life. Federer at 38 has crossed the age where most of the tennis players would have retired.

Correct, and that right attitude really push Roger Federer to do his best and so far we have witnessed his greatness in the tennis court. Would love to see someone today, new players emulate how Roger did and copy his blue print for success. Yes, he is hungry as if he hasn't won any tournament yet,  Grin. These kind of winning attitude can be seen in other elite athlete like Tom Brady (which I mentioned) or even Michael Jordan, or Muhammad Ali in boxing.

Yeah we are yet to hear if Federer will be retiring at the end of the year but going by the way he is talking I'm thinking that he will go on another year if he is fit and healthy. I personally would love to see him win another Grand Slam before he retires as he deserves to win another one and go out on a high.

I think he will go for another Grand Slam before he retires. Also, we haven't seen him slowing down, so I'm sure he will still chase for another Grand Slam and then see how his body will react till next year. He also master the art of taking his body and listening to it, that's why he was able to maintain his form and still perform at a high level. And it will be fitting for him to exit with a bang and raise another trophy.

I agree my friend, Federer still has another Grand Slam win in him.

The US Open has started and there has been one upset already with Fognini losing to the American Opelka in four sets. Djokovic and Medvedev won in straight sets and now I'm just waiting to see Federer playing in a couple of hours from now. On the Women's side Kerber losing in three sets was an upset I didn't see coming. Ash Barty had a scare losing the first set 6-1 but bounced back to win the match, she worries me sometimes as she loses the first set on many occasions but is good enough to come back and win, I guess that she is a slow starter sometimes.

Besides the top three legends Djokovic, Federer, Nadal - I have few young players who I think play very good tennis and they have better future. Kyrgios, Monfils G, Thiem D, Tsitsipas are those guys for me. May be not much for Kyrgios but I like his attitudes. By the way, Thiem is my key man. I love the way he wins his matches and play fearless tennis.

Today we have first upset of this Tournament Tsitsipas lost against very talented young Russian Roblev he was on fire and done great job he never allows his opponent to comeback in match now Thiem is also struggling and lost first set and broken in third set look like he can win but need some hard work for his first win of this tournament.

Edit:  Thiem is also out in first round very poor performance from him.

I have lost one of my favorite. I was following the score but not watching the match. I saw his 2 - 1 down but thought he will come back. He was in this kind of situations for numerous times. But Rublev seems did not give him time to breath.

In the other match my man Theim seems losing the match too! 5 - 2 down in the 4th set and he is already 2 - 1 set down!! This is not a good start for my favs.

Today we have first upset of this Tournament Tsitsipas lost against very talented young Russian Roblev he was on fire and done great job he never allows his opponent to comeback in match now Thiem is also struggling and lost first set and broken in third set look like he can win but need some hard work for his first win of this tournament.

Oh well, you know that Tsitsipas is my boy here, tough draw for him, Rublev is in best shape coming off from injury, so I'm not surprise by his win. Although I lost my bet here, I would say that it's worth it because the match was truly classic, as Tsitsipas was really cramping and try his best. Amazing match but only one man should win, so hats off to Rublev. He also upset Dominic Thiem in Hamburg and we all know that he beat Federer in Cincinnati Open.

Thiem did succumb to Fabbiano, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The same guy who also beat Tsitsipas on the first round at Wimbledon.

Lots of upsets and it's going to be a crazy US Open this year. Grin
