Wouldn't it be very easy for some hacker to hack one of the main nodes and  just read and then steal the Iota coins in them? Given that the address also acts like a password this seems to make the Iota a very easy to steal currency, yes?

There are too many comments of a concern troll accounts (BANKS and other companies). It's useless to try to destroy Iota, it's unbreakable and you'll loose a lot of money because it's free. IOTA is not controlled because It's kept alive by a wonderful non-profit foundation and a giant community that believes in this project. There is a great worldwide interest about IOTA, also in scientific research, it's unbreakeble and it will bring a better future.

That is why you should rather switch to https://forum.helloiota.com if you want to have serious discussion. On Bitcointalk a lot of fake accounts were created just to spread FUD and false information. You can see it in this thread very well. A lot of accounts which are younger than three months spreading provable wrong information like hell.

I'm afraid you'll be upset when you finally get your iotas back. To make sure this won't happen, could you PM me your seed? I'll ask the devs not to release the iotas thus making your words true.

want your IOTA to grow. Grow the network. Host nodes. Find like minded ppl and host. IRI nodes are not like miners. Re-deploy a 64 bit pc, 8 GB or more, unlimited internet and power. More nodes, faster, meaner, more secure.

That is all the IOTA team is doing all the time. A lot of new companies have recently joined which are going to experience and work with IOTA. All of them are very likely setting up big industry nodes. Every week new minded people are presented which join the Foundation. Compared to most - probably all - other projects in this domain, IOTA team is doing a great job.

Yes, IOTA's team has done a good job, and the development of these years is positive. Now the name is big and the partners are more and more partners, which will promote the rapid growth of the project.

The concept of DAG was first implemented by IOTA.  So they have the first mover advantage. The other competitor is Byteball, which is not that popular. We had a massive run lately for all altcoins following bitcoin run.

I would wait to see how the market adjusts after the holidays before putting hard earned money into crypto

You can try buying some at the moment ; a price around 3  USD is always a good price; remember price was around 5USD just a couple of days ago. But yes, generally we need to wait a bit more or market consolidation and then act.

The iota core software (IRI) which runs the protocol is open source - https://github.com/iotaledger. The only thing which is not open source is the coordinator.

Coordinator is not the protocol level software and you don’t have to use it if you build your own wallet or client. However, the current official wallet uses coordinator and does not provide an option to run without the coordinator.
