It's not easy to convince people that bitcoin is a good, they look at it as if it is a form of investment only and not as a currency. People  that don't have knowledge about bitcoin and don't want to learn about it look at bitcoin look more shady, specially to those who has a lot of experience about scams in the internet.

But anyway, with regards to OP's decision, I really hope that he buy during that time when price is still preparing to take off, or after a month ( January ) the drama and the hacking happened.

Our highest price was $1200, and even if there was a previous major pump, we didn't even hit that price again. I think it's safe to invest in bitcoins only when the price is low. Otherwise, you're going to wait for the next major price increase. Those people that have invested in the $1200 price are still waiting for their time. They thought they were finally able to get out of that hole after so many years but we we're only able to hit $1100 price range.

There's still risk in investing bitcoin. There's simply just no sure way of making money when you're investing. Because if there was, somebody has already abused it making that certain type of investment deplete.

Technically speaking, people who bought bitcoins at the peak in December 2013 most likely did that at Mt.Gox exchange. This exchange suspended all operations only in February 2014, when the price had already heavily plunged down to around 600 dollars per coin. In this manner, the people you refer to are hardly waiting for anything right now since their coins had been stolen long ago (but that's a cold comfort, of course)

It all depends on an individual's thoughts because it is really hard to convince someone as the price goes either way, sometimes it goes high and sometimes it drops down again, so if you tell someone that the price grows so they should believe in bitcoin then you may become a liar if later on they see it dropping down.

i think we can still expect a good increase in the price of bitcoin. it is expected that in next few months the price of bitcoin can cross 1500 USD level. therefore i think there is no reason with you not to trust on bitcoin. to me i have fully trust on bitcoin and will continue for ever.
