You can not compare BTC with currencies.And you shouldn't use it as that(at least for now).Bitcoin needs a far bigger adoption and market cap to see less volatility in price.Until this hasn't happened it's better to see and use BTC as a commodity.

Yeah, that's true, but what about paypal? Isn't paypal more widely accepted in online payments and shipments, so wouldn't it be more or less the same? But, to think of it, bitcoin addresses are easily created, and easy to send to others, so I personally prefer bitcoins for such micro transactions.

The main point of this topic is to find out if the forum users here think bitcoin as unstable, as you might never know if the price goes up or down, and cash currency is more of a 'fixed'/stable than bitcoin it might be better to stable store as cash, do you think so?

Bitcoin for me is as good as holding shares in the stock market where the price keeps changing in seconds and when in 1 month the price is $100, next month it is either $50 or $200. Bitcoin's price doesn't remain stable like INR or USD and hence I prefer to hold cash instead and deposit in my bank which pays me interest on the face value. I also hold bitcoins and don't bother about the price as the amount is very low.

Bitcoin is like a stock to me, an entity with a value. It has good potential else there wont be VC paying good monies for them.

I love the fact that it is so volatile and that makes for a big reason why I am here, it gives potential to earn from it bouncing.

I recently found a good reason to use bitcoin over fiat tho. In Thailand, when I transfer money into a Thai bank account, they have some extremely contorted, ad hoc, rules to ensure it's hard to send that fiat out of the country again. Details at reddit /r/BitcoinThailand.
So now I transfer to Thailand by wire, then immediately convert what i can to bitcoin for safety (and use online).

I love bitcoin, but I definitely prefer cash in my hand.  It's tangible, for one thing, but the most important reason is that I pay my bills in cash, buy my groceries with cash...all my living expenses are paid for with fiat.  No one around me takes bitcoin.  The second reason is, as mentioned, the price fluctuations.  It's nice when the price is rising, since I get more buying power, but we've seen some breathtaking crashes and those are not fun.

Yep, that is about the most true statement I have read on this thread.  The only thing that I can counter with is that there is already asset backed debit cards that have been available for a while now that converts your bitcoins into fiat up purchasing things IRL, or converts it to fiat upon loading.... but there is always the stigma that YOU yourself should be in full control of your bitcoins and never trusting a third party, which I fully agree.  But like you said, until you are able to pay rent, bills, etc. with bitcoin whenever you want, there won't be the possibility of me solely making an income in Bitcoin because I need to satisfy my basic needs.

Yes. In countries where there is political instability or governments with murkish law, btc prices jumps whenever these countries have news of possible new regulations that could affect liquidity of their assets.

Couple of months back when China moves to curb its property bubble, btc prices jump along. Simply, the mega rich PRC chinese have no other places to park their funds.

The most simple thing which can be do is to diversifying. Some money in cash (normally the amount needed to be spent and some other as a reserve for unforeseen situations) and the other one in bitcoin in order to be ready for the big day when the price of bitcoin will be 10 000 us dollar each. If are not enough money to realize the above told then must invent choices. Everyone has theirs. Me will have mine. Depending form the money which will have, the needs, and the other possible factors which must be made in consideration (if any) will make my decision. Yes, I too don't feel bitcoin is better than fiat as fiat is a currency that holds more value than bitcoins currently. It's obvious reason for it, I can't use bitcoin much in my country, there are almost no Bitcoin ATM, very few merchants accept bitcoin, no BTC debit cards etc.

Well gold has been on a losing streak lately, so there are other investments that are better right now. I can think of any off of the top of my head right now, but PMs such as silver as probably better to put value in right now.

I don't want my salary to be paid fully in Bitcoin as the value is very volatile right now and this will make me very uncomfortable. You need to keep certain proportion of fiat as well, as if bitcoin price falls in future then it will create a major problem for you, fiat should always kept as an back up.

I guess this is the correct answer here. As you never want to go all in with your investments, splitting your money is the smartest thing you can potentially do.

I prefer it being in bitcoins because it is portable and anonymous. Cash is too, but you run the risk of getting robbed in real life, while with bitcoin you can only get hacked and this is very easily avoided by having good safety measures.

I too would prefer btc. But we i can't spent it to pay expenses. I have to convert it too fiat. So far, i observed that btc is increasing every month. For holding value I clearly prefer Bitcoin, because fiat money will become worthless with certainty due to inflation. However since today only few stores accept Bitcoin for payment, I'm still using fiat cash. Physical fiat cash is at least a bit better than bank money or using a credit card, because you can transact freely and don't get into debt.

I don't agree that fluctuations in Bitcoin's fiat valuation are a real problem. It's only a problem if you still abide by the rules of the fiat world. Once Bitcoin becomes your main currency and point of reference, you will notice that it's in fact fiat money that shows high volatility... Regardless it's not a problem in a digital world, because you can calculate converted prices in no time.

I think it is still best to keep our money in fiat becouse use bitcoin in regular basic is not so easy I still have to convert it into fiat first. But keep money in bitcoin is good too. So I just need to make a portion to save my money in fiat or bitcoin. It the proportional percentage is 10 % in bitcoin and 90 % in fiat. Cash has the only advantage that it doesn't need an internet connection to be handed over back and forth. This is the only aspect where Bitcoin can't beat cash. Cash value being based on something doesn't mean anything since it's only losing value because many billions of it are being pumped into the economy each year. The value of Bitcoin is decided by all its users. If people think Bitcoin is not worth the value that it has right now, then people will dump their coins till they think it's enough. Same goes up for when the price is on the lower side.

You say that with full confidence, but what if you indeed do your shopping at your local mall with Bitcoin as currency. It means that you have to include like $0.15-$0.25 in fees with every transaction that you make. The fees will likely only increase further as pools will more and more depend on income through transaction fees in the coming years. Take in mind that paying with cash is free. Now you know this, will Bitcoin as currency for your local shopping still be an interesting option for you?

That is what comes my mind too, I won't put full of my assets with bitcoin and it is better to be safe if you are going to make it all balance. Balance with cash and as well as bitcoin. That's why if there is a bitcoin, it should be kept just before the price increase, if there are already predictions that the price will rise by 400%, but if today we need to have some shopping, it initially needs to be changed on a profitable basis, instead of buying immediately after the bitcoin.

Bitcoin has proven its value over the years. It grows 400% or more of its base value but i do think that bitcoin still should prove something before I can say that it would be worth using than FIat. Right now cash is much more needed. In the foest place most of us here uses bitcoin just to have cash and that makes sense.

That's why if there is a bitcoin, it should be kept just before the price increase, if there are already predictions that the price will rise by 400%, but if today we need to have some shopping, it initially needs to be changed on a profitable basis, instead of buying immediately after the bitcoin.

I also do believe that for now bitcoin can be considered as an asset to have a decent amount in fiat. FYI 400% bitcoin price increasing is not a prediction the current price of bitcoin right now is the 400% increase value than the base value of bitcoin before when it just started.

People with a decent understanding of what Bitcoin is, will indeed move a major part of their wealth to an option such as Bitcoin. I however believe that the majority of the people will prefer Gold over anything since it gives them a safe feeling. Bitcoin is a newbie in the game where Gold has been serving people for thousands of years. Looking at the serious poverty in Zimbabwe and India, I find it hard to believe people with barely any money will actually shift to Gold or Bitcoin. It will be something for the middle class and up as they have the highest risk exposure in this matter.

Most of y'all want bitcoins, and I understand all that.  I wouldn't mind either one if it was a big enough pot, but I do prefer cold hard cash.  There's still something inherently nauseating about bitcoin, and mosta that has to do with the hackers and the ephemeral nature of digital currency.  It only exists because we give it value.  The minute we decide it's worthless (which could happen), it's gone.  Guess the same thing goes for cash, but if that becomes worthless, we'll be shooting zombies in the streets.

Interesting article. Especially because of the fact that they are trading at nearly $800 and we here are around $90 behind. I think that's mainly due to the fact that there is barely any liquidity there. Either way, a massive premium compared to the USD rate shows that there is some panic buying going on. I am sure that when more people there enter the market and bring in liquidity, that the price will come closer to the other exchange rates. Right now it's a great arbitrage opportunity for those that know how to play it well.

Actually he is right ! With hyper inflation in poor countries the little money they have becomes worth even less by the day. Today's bread could cost the same as a single slice in a few weeks ? Months ? Years ? How long do you wait. As people habe said before you wasting printing that weak currency out since it is less than toilet paper.

If bitcoin was around in ww2 there would habe not been the great depression and the fall of the German mark so much so that one required a wheel barrow full of notes just for bread and milk. It's really interesting what you can do with your bitcoin with it's  anonymity and easy transaction and trust issue style. I think it really depends on what you're trying to do with your money. If it's going to be a local transaction or business, I would prefer cash but when it's for online transactions or trading, I would escrow and use bitcoins. Because you don't need to trust the person you're trading with, that's the beauty of it right. I prefer money to be in cash just because that's what people use everyday for transactions. I want most of my money to remain as bitcoin if not all, however due to today's standards and situation, you really could not opt to have all your money at bitcoin;  eventually you would need to convert to cash just to go to your local grocery and buy the things ou need.
