The problem with Zcash is not only the trusted setup, but also an undetected bug could lead to massinflation and printing of coins which could not be detected.
This problem occured with BTC on August 15 2010, where billions of BTC have been made, but it could be removed and repaired, in Zcash this would not be possible!

Also every new Zcash fork needs a new trusted setup.

Technically the XMR Ring CT, which will be activated in beginning of 2017 is delivering the same efficiency like we have on Zcash.
The Ring CT protocol allows hidden amounts, origins, and destinations for transactions which is similar to Zerocash. So basically XMR will offer the same efficiency but with no trust needed.

Zcash is dead in the water. Who wants to buy an ever depreciating asset with exponential supply Huh its gonna fall hard, its fair value is probably something like 0.005 BTC. But I think it takes months or years to get there. While it happens volumes will be lower and lower. which is really what kills it. No more confidence in the crypto. And thats not taking into account any potential flaw in the cryptographic protocol...(as it has been largely untested)

Other competitors will fill the gap (XMR ?) and Zcash will soon be forgotten, ala STEEM... which also designed to enrich its creators fell from 600 M market cap to 25M....

ZEC is setting new records for a PnD scheme dropping from 3299 BTC to 0.8 BTC (as i write) and the road to 0.005 will be quite long

The greediness of its creators is what killed ZCash

If you say worst investment, i can agree, but not yet about a potential investment, those coins are so fucking manipulating, and totally i don't ever think there are the another chance for touch the rate are worth in 3k btc for 1 zcash.

nice scam...

It is unbelievable that people always fall back on the same shit. Instead of old proven to believe!

LSK, Steem and so on.. ZEC

"Learn, learn and learn again."
The problem is, the cryptocoin world is a constant revolving door of new money and ignorance coming into this particular space. Its like a compulsory initiation ceremony, that ones ignorance and greed has to take part in, to fully understand. Any attempts made to educate on here, are either met with suspicion, and/or, crowded out by over-excited pubescents with far too much testosterone, posting about their lambo dreams.
I wonder if Theymos is proud of what he over-sees   Undecided

Well you know there are people like me who dont care if its a pump and dump coin and has or doesnt have. I started mining at the release made 2k € in 3 days and now i'm still making 100+ € a day with zac at 2x BTC price.

As a oportunist miner i love Pump and dump coins. Most of my zec went for 40x the btc price was a awesome night.

World class financial elite fraud: http://zerocash-project.org/about_us
6 gatekeepers: they together can emit as much ZCash as they won't and nobody can't tell whether they do it or how much they're inflating it.

Real toxic variant of Cash. I won't touch it ever.

Its not uncommon for scientific projects to be funded by US and European Union grants (like the ones listed for Zcash). Im much more concerned about the trusted setup.

Heh, personally i'm more offended they are taking taxpayer money while also taking investor backing AND 20% of the mining rewards. Why do they need grants with all this private backing?

Another thing, so zcash is registered company and they call it currency. doesnt this put them in danger?  when handling currency you should have license or am i wrong?   specialy in USA where the whole debate of BTC being a currrency or not  is handled by courts.

why register a company in the most crypto hostile country?   i think zooko will be in jail soon

They should go into jail not only because of that. They are highly manipulating the market.
Yesterday I used the google news tool to find some news about zcash on big news sites. I was really curious why suddenly zcash could become so popular because in my mind it's not because the first coin was offered for 10.000$. There is no logic. Imagine you develope a new coin what produces every day only 1 coin and the first will be announced for 100.000$....will it at NBC because of that? I doubt it.

First i noticed that some textes are very very similar like copy paste style even they were written by different authors.
Using google to spy these authors it gives a clear taste of "paid by zcash companie/investors"

90% of these articles were just hyping zcash. I don't know how it is in the USA but in Europe its called investment fraud and market manipulation and it is a crime. Also price manipulation on stock exchanges are a crimere in Europe. And obviously Zcash is manipulated.

Because zcash is located in the USA I would not wonder if the FBI will soon intervene and figure out who are the investors and what game they are playing. Since Zcash is still traded by BTC and on companies located in the USA (Poloniex) it should be very easy for them to figure out what's going on there. At least in that case the transparent BTC blockchain will help them here again.  But maybe it will never happen until coins are not regulated and not accepted as a currency in general there. But who knows, the USA are fast in adapting.

Yea actually you re right; they shouldn't need investors and the unbelievable 20% reward with all these grants - many of which are from non-profit organizations

Yes, it is just so open that is crazy that people want to buy zcash.   the hype   and also the way it is built. It is not decenterlized .  I am based in Europe and i have been in offshore banking and laws for 16 years.  I find it strange they state that zcash is a currency and that they have registered a company .  I am sure SEC will have a closer look  into zcash very soon.

You can not sell or offer currency as it falls under financial security  and for this you need license and proper KYC.   That is why most of crypto projects are offered as tokens  in a software project

In regards to the possible shady funding, mining reward etc.. one of the big problems I see is the fact that since and correct me if im wrong, ZEC is like a black box where you can only see void (not open blockchain), we can't know where the funds are going... so you have to trust the funds are going to the right places...

As far as I know monero doesnt have this problem, since you can optionally send transparent transactions.

Huh? Funded by taxpayer money? Why would the taxayer have in interest in anon-coins? Quite the opposite should be the case. I was expecting for anoncoins to be outlawed sooner or later and now they fund them instead?

I'm just talking the politics of it, it is crony capitalism at its best, taking non-profit grants to fund your LLC venture.
