im kind of confused lol, this is what i got back from bittrex...
Hi,
Coin name changes are easy. Coin ticker changers are not easy and require us to do quite a bit of work on the back end. A coin ticker change will cost 2 BTC which is equivalent to the amount of work that goes in to making this change.
Please respond with how you would like to proceed.

So since this is a rebrand from DogeD , is there going to be a coin exchange from DogeD to verge? Or is it going to be a simple wallet switch with the new name? Eg. If I buy DogeD now will it 'autoconvert' to verge when new wallet is released?
yeah doged ARE verge, so just a wallet switch is all you need. you can even withdraw doged from the exchange, into your verge wallet =] Ok sweet  time to go buy up a bag of DogeD  wanna get in on Verge from the start of the re-brand at least |

I chatted with Richie on Slack - depends on how long it takes to change ticker, its not the blockchain its the backend. The fee is for backend work 1.5 - 3 BTC.
im discussing it with him right now. i dont have that kind of bitcoin to spend, nor will i pay anyone to do anything.. i already pay a ton just to keep doged/verge networks running and have hosts to build more resources.. maybe since we have 75 bitcoin in buy walls, he can work it out. it'll be in his best interest.. |

That's silly - a name change fee is not a fee listed or contemplated on the "Fees" page (1) OR the most recent "Submitting A Coin" terms-page. (2) In fact, Bittrex coin launch terms state that their work for launching a coin, whether due to a new launch or a name change, etc., is "free": At Bittrex, we look for coins that have high community demand, innovations to digital currency technology, or a contribution to science or humanity. Given the demand for currency launches, we limit ourselves to only a handful a week. Launching is free and at our discretion. If you'd like to guarantee the launch of your coin and get additional marketing in our platform, we offer the option to spotlight your coin for 3.0 BTC. (2) It should be too late to distinguish one type of coin launch from another. Note: I realize a "coin launch" may not be the same as a "name change" for some folks. Unfortunately, Bittrex's terms do not define a name change or provide any terms related to name changes. They do have some terms on "launches." And, what is a re-brand/namechange if not a re-set of sorts? Consequently, it seems totally reasonable to treat name changes as a sub-category of coin launches. Likewise, it seems reasonable to expect name changes to be treated as part of the launching process. I would be willing as well, but I think it should be waived considering the amount of fees trex will get once DOGED is renamed to XVG |

If Bittrex want's BTC for a ticker change, does that mean all exchanges will request the same. no of course not, most have already responded and said they will make it happen. |

I am trying to come up with a marketing idea for when the name change officially hits the exchange Bittrex where we have the highest volume.
We should create a contest to win some Verge or a Gift Card. We could all donate some funds to a Dev address. If we could all invest 10$ to 20$, I am sure we could come up with a nice prize.
Any contest idea?

I'm jumping late in here but I've been talking to the dev and want to sum of what I told him:
We charge for swaps and renames for 2 reasons...
1) its very time intensive to do these renames/swaps. For better or worse, that is how the system is designed. Its purposefully difficult to change anything in the system that messes with audit ability.
2) for a while we had people "rescuing" old coins and "rebranding" them for nefarious purpose. The fee was implemented to slow that down.
We implemented a policy that any renames/swaps would incur a fee. I just had to charge the LIMX folks for the same thing today, and thats after they paid for a spotlight to get listed.
For me to waive anything would be unfair to the other coins that we have forced to do this. The best i can do is reduce the fee to 1.5 ... If you choose not to go that route, I'll be happy to close the market and let people withdraw and we will re-evaluate the re-listing of XVG after we close down DOGED.
