From where you got your statistics exactly ? how do you know that most of BTC users are russians ? I guess they are less now since using BTC became illegal or whatever in russia .

The title is really misleading. The word "most", to me, means >50%. I guess Chinese, at most, make up of 25% of bitcoiner population. Most users are in the US and Europe. Only a small percentage in Russia.

Not all Russians are scammers although there are a lot of ponzi sites that are based on Russia. I have few Russian friends and they've been really helpful and opposite of scammers to me, ever since I knew them so it wouldn't be fair to label all of them as scammers if you had a bad experience with certain Russian guy. And also there was a statistics image in which showed most usage base on countries and I'm sure Russia was not among most users (can't find the image).

There are a lot of organized crime groups in Russia that do a lot of scams but we also have them here in the U.S., the most noteworthy criminal organization we have is referred to as the NSA.

Your statement that Russia have the most online scammers piqued my interest so I decided to do a Google search and apparently countries like Malaysia, South Africa, Romania, Indonesia, Venezuela, Brazil are much higher on the lift of Internet fraudsters. There are a lot of poor people with Internet access nowadays so watch your back online.

Well it seems like Russia has a lot of Bitcoiners judging by this graph: the usage is really important, I think that in the countries where the governments decide to ban Bitcoin, are the countries that get the most usage, like on China where its not really legal but they have a big interest as you can see by the mining industry. i think the more gov bans or limits Bitcoin the more interest people will have.

It's nothing out of the ordinary, as the bitcoin community is really diverse. You should be bothered though if one day you receive an e-mail from a Nigerian prince that wants to give his bitcoins to you - this one is a well known scam.

From what I have observed, the Russians are really good in web designing and coding. That is why there are so many online BTC ventures out there, owned and operated by the Russians. For example, many of the gambling sites are owned by either Russians or Ukrainians (Primedice is an example). A few of them are con-men, but such people are there in every ethnic group.

I don't know how true the OP's claim is. If it is true though then it's probably because Putin & their government closely monitor where they spend their money & with bitcoin it's a lot more difficult to be monitored.

It's not true because it's impossible to draw a real demographics on who is using Bitcoin since it's pseudoanonymous (and it can be "fully anonymous" if you take enough effort into it). The only data that can be researched is who is buying in a certain country, and only from LocalBitcoin's since the data on exchanges is private.

OP's claim looks more like an speculation rather than with hard facts. besides there is no sure way to tell which country has the more bitcoin users, because there is no way of tracking who sends bitcoin from which IP for example using services like online wallets, TOR, and broadcasting TX through some online service (other nodes) make it impossible to know it.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip. Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

OP have to clear his message how he concluded that Russian are most in bitcoin and they are mostly scammers.

It is basically impossible to determine who the fraudsters are and who owns what Bitcoin address. Something I did pick up from this forum is the activity under the different languages are the most active under the Russian section with 514795 Posts and 23881 Topics. Is this proof of your statements? Nope. The majority of the discussions are under the English section and many Russian people talk and write English too. Let's see some proof of these statements, before we debate this even further.

It is not that there are so much russians. Thing is (I think) that when you use say, a russian faucet or HYIP or "cloud mining", you see the russians characters and immediately think there are lots of them.
There are also quite a lot of hispanic-latino people, chinese...etc, but as they write with same characters as english people, one tends not to notice.

I think most BTC users currently would be from US but let's not think like that, we don't need to divide bitcoin users in nationalities, Bitcoin is above race or gender, we're all just bitcoiners, where we're from doesn't makes any difference. I don't know if your statement is backed with real data, but most of the ponzi mine cloud scams are deeply Russian based. Just my 2 cents here.

Could you please name a few "Russian based ponzi mining scams"? I think it is better if you run honest and long term business project than conduct a short lived scam stunt. Everyone knows that, Russians are not exception here. I also don't think Russians are the nation where Bitcoin is so hugely popular, but it is hard to really measure true popularity of cryptocurrencies.

More like scammers in Russia love to scam and cheat bitcoin due to anonymity.
|
A scam will be a scam. It won't sustain in long run, cause they can't make $ for you at all, they don't have any business model or investment plans to make money grows. All they did is use other people's $ to pay other users, so those who earned $ is just from other victims... in short a vicious cycle. People KNEW, but they just dump their $ in hoping for a miracle.
Maybe I have to give another example for people who can't understand. It's like- Going down to dirty sewers looking for fresh air.

you're right, very many bitcoin users, even I think that most of the china, because there are so many unemployed, making them look for bitcoin and become the largest population that uses bitcoin. but if there is a reason you're saying most of the BTC users russians are probably right...

It's just not possible to know how many people are involved in Bitcoin by country, you could only estimate by judging on registered accounts on exchanges and centralized payment sites like Coinbase and whatnot, so you can't say russians love to scam because you can't extrapolate the data from those variables.

Do you have a basis of what you are saying? If you have been scammed or have a bad experience with a Russian that doesn't mean all of them or most of them are scammer's. This is because people have prejudice, and this is main cause why we today have so many haters in the world. This must be stopped. Scammers and bad persons are coming from different social structures and from different nations, and cultures. You can't pick just one..

The most of btc users are Chinese not Russians. However, Russians are very interested in BTC because of their currency's situations recently.
Nope. The Chinese mine and trade. Other than that they have no use for it. Check the number of full nodes in China. It's pitiful compared to the US. As for Russia it's less than nowhere in BTCland and always has been and likely always will be.

thats not a right thing to say either way, first of all according to the wiki their political system is not communism, secondly there are other communist countries though not their people dont make up the biggest part of bitcoin users i think that there just are a lot of people who like new technologies and really want to use it every day

i think chinese the most of btc users in the world not russians because everyday at chinese exchange volume trade is very huge and also i was wondering that where is you get this info too because i totally disagree with your source
The exchange volume trade is huge doesn't mean lots of people use bitcoin. Acctually very very few people use bitcoin as no where can use bitcoin in China.

and the speculation (that is not even widespread) that satoshi is russian supposed to make russian use bitcoins? many russian use bitcoins merely as substitute of some other payment method. but last I checked the number of bitcoin accepting merchants from russia are not that many compared to other countries.

Just to name a few , but there are others as well which I don't recall now.
Not going to argue on that, they'll most probably end up scamming but how do you know that their owners are Russians? Is your statement backed by real data?

Because the majority of them was in Russian language in the beginning and also when scamming (Hashprofit), thats the only data I have so far, but the scam trap is always the same, databases in Siberia, mining with lots of GPU altcoins and a lot of bsh like that. From this I have no doubt they are russians but thats just my opinion though.

Yes that is correct and true. You can get this through logic. You have here more users from India then from Russia. Many Russian speaking English so well you can't tell the difference. This is my opinion. Bitcoin is probably most popular in china.

Lost on hashprofit too. They are too sneaky and fast. There is strong tie with Russian, but it is fair to say there is no direct prove that Russian did it.

I don't think that the percentage and amount of russian bitcoin users is way out of proportionate to that extent, They are a big economy and has a big interest in online trading etc... but they are still a normal % when compared to US bitcoin users for example.

I think that many russians use bitcoin because their national currency ruble is unstable and cheap. Earlier it was popular to use dollars instead of ruble. Russians want to be more independent from their weak currency.

I wouldn't say that most Bitcoin users are Russian, but I would say that there is a significant portion that are Russian.
A lot of it comes down to who invested when, and Russians seem to partake in anything that will make them money, based on my personal experience with them.

How do you even know that? Can anyone actually tell just by the blockchain evidence where users are?
Having said that, I would not be surprised in the least if Russia is at least near the top of the list of big bitcoin users. Not sure how stable their currency really is, and I'm sure bitcoin is an excellent alternative. USD sure ain't.

Russians can't be the main people occupying Bitcoin. I don't even know how somebody can calculate that. It's not like Bitcoin isn't pseudo-anonymous to the point that we can find out a person's race or where they even live.

I don't think that's true. If you check out demographics you'll see Chinese exchanges have more value and volume, Chinese and American people are more than Russians. You should also consider the population of China and Russia is way more diffferent.

Yes, and in US India and China the users are more abundant, because of cheap resources to them and the other thing is that in India there is unemployment so people adopt online means to earn.

From my experience, the most Bitcoin users are not Russian. Most come from the States and Europe. Of cource, there are some Russian and some has good influence in well-known projects like Ethereum, Emercoin, Nxt and IOTA for instance, but they do not form a majority in crypto coin universe.

Well India is getting into cryptocurrency usage slowly, So Russia might get users greater than India. Most Probably Europe or America comes in the second and third places.

What if they use Russian's proxy/VPN while they're not Russia? You are true they may use the VPN/Proxy of Russia and maybe of some other country, as all the hackers try to use VPN/Proxy of other country, so if they were of Russia they may use VPN of other country.

I don't think that the percentage and amount of russian uᴉoɔʇᴉq users is way out of proportionate to that extent, They are a big economy and has a big interest in online trading etc... but they are still a normal % when compared to US uᴉoɔʇᴉq users for example.
Yeah they are adopting bitcoin on the same proportion as the people from other major powers, we can notice an equal amount of people from Russia, USA and China etc. So that is not fact that Russsians are more at bitcoin.

the government can't monitor everyone's activity in internet, and even a website which is bitcoin related had been banned in russia you can easily bypass it through vpn, and proxy Yeah, it is easy to bypass internet restrictions now thru vpn. And I don't think they can target all bitcoiners. They may be just focusing on people with very large bitcoins in their wallet.

Truly said, most people has hidden their identity. Bitcoin is much popular among European and American countries compared to Russian nation. Asia has got largest adoption from China.

Russians might be having a big user-base in terms of Bitcoins, but when it comes to a total number of users, Chinese are way ahead than any country's people around the world... Maybe, this is why their government is trying to ban Bitcoins at their place...

No. The largest number of users are from the United States, followed by Russia. China, at the most may be at no.3. The Chinese exchanges usually inflate their usage stats, and it gives an impression that there are large number of Bitcoiners there. Loot at the major exchanges (including LBC). The US tops in terms of trade volumes.

Thats why it is the online permit destination of hyip makers.

And why most Russian user..?? because I think the Russians preferred the retention money transactions and an easy and transparent.

An important factor to remember here is that most of the ex-Soviet nationals are termed as "Russians" by those living outside Eurasia. Many of these "Russians" are actually citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Latvia, Estonia, Moldovia.etc. They use the Russian language forums and communities, so the outsiders consider them as Russians.

Well we should collect just some information about the faucets admins i believe those russians really active at several faucets, and maybe being the most actives at faucets, the reason is unknow.
that's really uncertain, however everyone could use a russian vpn and then the ip detector will detect them as russion visitor, you can't calculate bitcoin users by their IP,and i'm not sure this case will have the exact answer at all The only way they're ever gonna find out is if they actually talk to the people behind these accounts and find out where they're from. Unfortunately, I don't really think anyone's foolish enough to give up where they come from, who they are, etc. To be honest, what I wanna know is why it even matters

Your thread title caught my attention. I've never heard the statistic that russians are the majority of bitcoin users. I've always assumed that it was probably Americans that are the majority. Also, how would you know that most "scammers" are russian? It sounds like a made up accusation to me.

I've never heard this before. This is my first time to hear that Russians use bitcoin more and that they are scammers. Personally I am not from Russia, neither are my closest friends who use bitcoin. I might be knowing one or two Russians who use bitcoin but I never never regarded them the way this thread insinuates. Being scammed by one Russian does not mean all Russians are scammers. In this digital era, it might be probable that you were scammed by an impostor using a Russian name, yet he might be even from China, Romania, USA or even Nigeria.

Well, that's not really racist to just say most bitcoiners are russians. What would be racist would be to say all bitcoiners are russians and that's why the btc community is so horrible :3

I wonder if OP actually legitimately researched his statistics or just posting non sense based on his feelings It's really hard to actually know the statistics of bitcoin users since some of the users are probably using VPN or TOR network to hide their real identity, in fact I think those Russian users that OP talks about is probably some guy living somewhere completely different and using VPN to mask theirs Don't talk a big bullshit without having any hard fact

You asseption is completely wrong. First you shouldn't say that only Russians are scammers because that's a lie. You can find scammers everywhere. Second it is more than proven that most of the transactions are happening in China... so it is possible to correctly say that the majority of bitcoin traders and users are Chinese

And foreign scammers grab oppurtunity to post their certificate as proof so it can be deceiving to invvestors i think russia must fix their system about it.

Russians?? Did you make a survey or any statistics on why you said Russian are the most btc user? I likely to believe that most users are americans. Because Russians are having a hard time to speak/write english. I think you're just making a false accusations about russian being scammer. I guess you've been scammed by russian that's why you made that statement.

I assume this is because Russia under sanctions now,and the ruble is falling, and people are looking for other ways to keep their savings. And the lack of bureaucracy and a quick easy transfer of money in a couple of clicks.
Well, at least I and my brother, for this reason and are interested in Bitcoin.

Russians might be having a big user-base in terms of Bitcoins, but when it comes to a total number of users, Chinese are way ahead than any country's people around the world...
Thanks for sharing that info, man... I was actually having that in my mind, but people always talked that Chinese are the reason why BTC is here, which is why I thought that the numbers are right and Chinese are running BTC because they hold a major % of BTC with them... He has no proof of this though. Where is he getting those numbers from? Yes, he did not give any reference of what he said there and with that it is not an info, but opnion of his mind. I like to see the proof of that , please if possible provide some links or another source where we can see it.

It is right or not that Russian scammers ? I think the most of them is not look like that. Maybe few of them are scammers. Russia have so many occupations and it is possible if Russians is the most bitcoin user. Russia is a big country and its citizens have a large number of occupations, and there are the same proportion of good and bad people in every community , so in that the Russains are obvious, just like the Chinese are obvious in physical trade.

But i agree with that China has large no. Of bitcoin user and globally also many other nation or countties use bitcoin for now becausr it is spread slowly.

I'm from Russia. And I, and most people are very poor (the thieves and crooks in the government are destroying the country's economy), and Bitcoin for us this is part additional earnings. Another reason is paranoid the government's desire to control everything and everyone. In Russia there is a religious and political inquisition, that is a negative comment towards lawlessness authorities, or repost, or like in social networks, can condemn and imprison or condemn arbitrary, and because of this block the bank account or bank card thereby depriving the people's livelihood. And this is one of the reasons for the use of uncontrolled ,by nasty government, Bitcoins.

I don't think so that most of the bitcoin users where on russia ,but as i've observe many HYIPs are russian made . On my own opinion most btc users are from china because of its creator of satoshi .also the factor that there are more advance unlike russians.

and why most of russians are scammers? because most of russian are anomalous started from poorest man in russian to there president. there main thought is to hurt someone and make bad things, not only here, in every business, in every jobs they are making, they only thinking only in one thing, to hurt someone. I know I'm replying to an old reply to an old post but you must either be trolling or extremely racist (stereotyping, ignorant what have you..) to even say that. Anyways back on topic in reply to the OP, I don't at all think that most of the BTC scammers out there are Russian or a single national identity for that matter. Remember that Bitcoin was made with anonymity in mind and for me I think that it would be hard to pinpoint the identities of anonymous scammers. I think it's to be agreed upon that there are lots of Russian HYIPs out there but what do we call the HYIPs which are "non-russian", not so easy to classify right without giving bias? Russia has a very distinct knowledge that makes it stand apart from all the "English" HYIPs, this might very well be the reason why they stick out more.

Its very big and risky assumptions. First of all, russians are poor in general. That is causing the need for easy money and there is only couple steps from here to scam. On the other hand, BTC-E, russian exchange, shady and stuff, doing really good in recent years. You never know with russians, they are special

I would assume this is because the Russian currency isn't that strong and Russians want an alternative, a majority of other alternatives currently block Russian users while Bitcoin does not.
Unfortunately a lot of online scams originate from Russians hence why most other alternative money solutions have decided to block them.

Well, speaking English is not a proof on any nationality because people around the world speak it as a second language. so you can not use it as a proof that there are no Russians using bitcoin

Most of btc users speak english, because that's who I speak to. I don't know 1 Russian bitcoiner...it all depends where you're interacting with these people.
Most Russian bitcoiners are probably big players trying to escape Putin's control on their finances so they'll mpst likely not ever go on a forum & speak to anybody. They'll be very discrete, there's a reason rich Russian's live elsewhere.

There are no studies or statistic proving that russians are the number 1 btc users in population. It maybe a speculation or just an opinion. I hope you could provide with us the link of your source so we can check you claim. But anyway your post is a good topic to mingle with. I will reasearch on it thoroughly so I can verify the validity.

The users often become more from a country because the people of that country take more interest in bitcoin, if you think or looking that the Russians are more in bitcoin then you should have to tink that The Russians are taking more interest in bitcoin then the fellow of your country, and if you want that your countrymen would have to be mre in bitcoin then invite everyone from theer to bitcoin and spread the news of bitcoin everywhere in your country.

I am from Russia and I can say with confidence that the majority of Russian are not the majority of Bitcoin users. In Russia, not many people know about the existence cryptocurrency, I would even say very, very few people know about them. Here such a mentality, everyone loves an old and tested, and are afraid of the new and unknown. Seniors prefer to bring them pension postman, instead of using cards.
However, if Russian and use Bitcoin, then as additional income, because the country's economy in the ass, impoverished population, and the government gets richer.

I guess a lat of BTC users are Russians because they are in a tightly regulated country and they would like to have some freedom under their communist regime. Or they just are keen profit makers.
Not all BTC users are Russians though, there are americans as well.

I don't know where you got this Info. but according to me the users seems well scattered. mostly I see people from US, India and EU and some of course Russians. As far as Russian being scamers, nah u don't think I haven't seen any Russian to scam, but then scammer don't have a country Totally agree. I have many Russian friends and they are all honest people by nature and in their culture. I think many scammers just pretend to be from Russia just because most people think it is difficult to trace someone from a country so far and less understood. It's nothing out of the ordinary, as the bitcoin community is really diverse. You should be bothered though if one day you receive an e-mail from a Nigerian prince that wants to give his bitcoins to you - this one is a well known scam. Lol is this true are the most bitcojn users russians i dont think that is true but it is not strange that they are the most users because russia is ten times bigger than every other countrys.

I think that is because there are allot of people who has allot of money not just money black money and that is a good thing to invest into bitcoins because they cant go after bitcoins.

This topic is necessarily meaningless; the science of demography requires detailed information on individual participants, something which can and should never be obtained in a system designed to protect anonymity.
Very well said. I think that OP is not intending to lead us in the other side, he may be found an article or something, that he in the end made such topic that could confused the hell out of us.

I think the OP has started this topic because the Russians are more obvious in the usage of bitcoin than any other country, and more of the online casinos using bitcoin are also from Russia, so it feels like the Russians are more than any other.

Such a graph is meaningless without comparison to the trading volumes of other countries' fiats (and I do believe overall volume has actually gone up) or as a proportion of total BTC/fiat exchange volume over a fixed time period, and so it provides no argument. Even then, it would only demonstrate volume in Rubles was higher; what we seek to ascertain is whether or not users are over-represented in one particular place, and trading bitcoin back and forth from fiat does not necessarily provide this information. Certain currencies (the CNY, for example) are over-represented in exchange volumes due to administrative massaging, anyway, so this is not gospel. Just my 2c.

You are Russian and just do not know it yet. Prove you are man! I used to think I was American but now I know I am Russian, thanks man! The vodka has really helped me bring myself to the realization that I live in the country with the biggest controlled landmass on earth and probably the weirdest gun designs that work. As for OP, I still have yet to see evidence a lot of the people here are Russian. It seems to mostly be Westerners or similar countries, however there are Russians on the forum.

I would assume this is because the Russian currency isn't that strong and Russians want an alternative, a majority of other alternatives currently block Russian users while Bitcoin does not.
Unfortunately a lot of online scams originate from Russians hence why most other alternative money solutions have decided to block them.
No, the Russians’ currency is stronger, but the real fact is that Russians do not like USD to be more powerful as they are against America so they are searching for some other currency which they want to have a potential to become a global currency.

I tell you what. It does not matter who is coming from. Bitcoin is international, it unites all of us, he breaks down traditional boundaries, opening us to freedom. Regarding the fact that the Russian use Bitcoin, I wrote a few pages ago. for Russian Bitcoin is an additional means of income. In Russia very small wages, and rising prices for products and services.

I don't think that this is true. I always thought that the country with the most bitcoin users was China, and I'm probably right. However, even if there are mnay more Chinese using bitcoin, there are a lot of Russians using it as well.
A majority of the Bitcoin based businesses are either based in Russia, or located outside Russia but run by the Russians. A large number of freelancers who accept payments in Bitcoin are from Russia and the other former Soviet Union republics. What more, a majority of the sig campaigns here in Bitcointalk are being run by either Russians or Ukrainians.

I don't know anyone that is russian, at least I do not have contact with them but even if most of users are russian it does not matter, it means that they value more bitcoin rather than their russian ruble currency, and I don't know how people can calculate how much people in US are using bitcoin or not, I think it is anonymous?

Well the reason behind it is that russians typically have a way way lower wage than us (europe/usa) and the bitcoin currency seems to be attractive to them though i got to say, that's the thing, the circle of interest is quite big in their country due to the attractiveness it provides, would do the same if i was in their place.

Do you have facts to back up your claims. Im afraid not all bitcoin users re russians.I utterly disagree with you.Thats just an exagguration OP.Bitcoin users are all over the world. And as bitcoin become widespread more people will be interested to use it.
I also disagree that most of btc users are russians. I think this statement is true about the chinese. Most of the miner are in china. While the bitcoin users are spread world wide.

Well yeah, you summed it up quite correctly, beneficial from every point that you look at it. Investing and the profit it brings is why most of people with lower wages choose btc. As I said, I think you and I would be doing the same if we were in their place, can't blame them for that. Well, I definitely would, as for you and everyone else, can't decide.

You just cant form a proper demographic statistic about Bitcoin usage per country, it's impossible and that is a good thing since demographic analysis is a weakness towards a network that must stay anonymous and decentralized to survive long term.

If that's the case, then many among the third worlders should also be using bitcoins as form of payment because their wages are quite low as well compared to first worlders. Standard first worlder wage is already considered a rich-man's wage in the third world. I'm speaking from a personal experience.

Well you are totally wrong my friend, and I`m telling you that most kindly. There is many Russians here, and on gambling sites, but I don`t think that Russians are majority in btc world. And second is interesting, they are not all scammers, you have scammers more or less in every nation, that is like global thing. You found a nice picture for this post, congratulations on that! I don't believe that most bitcoin users are Russians. Didn't they ban bitcoin? I think there are lots of users in the US and China, so I'd be very surprised if it were true.
One day you will understand Russian is one and only way and the rest are aliens. This is fact! @ BitcoinRonnie They didn`t ban BTC, and they can`t ban BTC! That is a fact, they wanted to make it illegal, there was talking about it in news and some stories about how people who use BTC will go in prison. @ outatime1 Fact is that just person`s who didn`t get out from their own village talks like that. You need to travel and see what is out there, meet and talk with people from other parts of the world, then you will understand more about what I`m talking about. Good luck with that!

I don't think that russians are the biggest users of Bitcoin but I think that they are majority of users who use Bitcoin in ilegal and criminal purposes. But Chinese are the majority although the reason could be also that they are the biggest country, so it's logical that they have many users.

Yeah, Chinese have been all the way the reason before those huge price hikes and dumps because they are controlling a very big share of the current amount of total bitcoins. Russians may be large in numbers, but they can't beat Chinese in terms of btc.

I think most bitcoin users are not the people of Russia, very many bitcoin users from other countries are countless and I think China still has the largest bitcoin users besides russian I agree. The fact that China significantly has the most number of transactions then probably it follows that China has the biggest number of Bitcoin users.

Yes, they are bigger in numbers. But they are not too much into bitcoins as being said in this thread. OP, do you have any proof that justifies your statement?

It doesn't realy matter anyway if the major percentage of bitcoin users come from russia. What would matter even is which country holds the most amount of bitcoins and apparently, that goes to china (as far as I know) because that would have the capability to somehow affect the value of bitcoin if they do a collab dump/pump.
