IMHO Dash had a sketchy start (as Darkcoin) and didn't really fix up the unequal premine issues.
However, the community is quite innovative and worthy of praise.
Perhaps down the road there will be a Dash fork altcoin?
I was actually there the second that XCoin(Darkcoin/Dash) was launched (the thread with 0 reads popped up before my eyes) and never even once had the impression it was being launched in a fraudulent manner. The Dash folks have developed a lot of interesting stuff since then and seem to continue to do so

How can the launch be fixed. There was no way to fix it when it was realized there was a problem then, and no fix now. It was a choice to continue on, or scrap the whole thing. The community voted against scrapping, so we moved on. Frankly, nobody really knew what would become of Xcoin/Darkcoin/Dash, and may not have cared. After all, most all the originally mined coins were sold off. Essentially, the end result gave us a much broader user base than we would otherwise have had, and it's not much different from presales and even premines you see all over this forum. Why are those ok then? Ever since the beginning of this project people knew how it started, yet they bought into it, they joined, they became passionate. Why? Because of it's amazing team, led by Evan Duffield. Anyone can clone Dash, the repository is right there on github. Why won't there be a successful clone of Dash? Because nobody else could inspire a team like the one Evan has created. This means 1. Clones will always be behind the curve on implementing new features, 2. likely not have a team responsive enough to fix bugs, 3. simply not have the support of a large community like Dash has. On the other hand, if Dash were cloned to start something new, well, that's what Open Source is all about, and we'd cheer it on, especially if it is to do things that the Dash team do not want to implement into Dash, like say to clone Dash's Masternode system so it could host a market place, where a small fee would go toward the network nodes running it. In this way, unlike Open Bazaar - who plan to offer centralized services on the side - users could get the same kind of buying and selling experience they get from ebay - no hosting of their own nodes - no technical know how, yet still decentralized and cheap. I actually wish someone would do that still I don't trust the company that paid to have Open Bazaar built. Anyway, good luck with any clones of Dash, I think the biggest trolls here already released "classic dash" LOL.

How can the launch be fixed. Who said there has to be way? Anyway, the way to at least reduce the impact of it, which might have been the best solution possible, would have been to increase future distribution, not decrease it. Dash did exactly the opposite. #FAIL.

...would have been to increase future distribution LoLz ! F*ck that for a game of cards. More Dash got "distributed" in the two crashes of 2014 and 2015 than ever would have been from any pissing about with block rewards if thats what your referring to. You know what they say. If you want it....

OK, we'll just take your word on that, mate. And before you start showing us pretty pictures, be sure those pictures have owners' names attached. Makes for even prettier pictures.

Market theory insures he is incorrect. The majority buys at the top and sells at the bottom. The insiders have the advantage of seeing what percentage of the float is real (not them), so they know exactly where the bottom is and can buy it.

And before you start showing us pretty pictures, be sure those pictures have owners' names attached. Makes for even prettier pictures. I don't think you understand. There are multiple stakeholder perspectives. I am a trader, not a miner. I trade cryptocurrencies in markets and don't even have a mining rig. I could care less about the changing of block rewards, instamines accusations and subjective perspectives on "ethics". Everyone has their "ethics" and they're all different - thats why there's a market. What's ethical is what works for the benefit of the currency and whatever was or wasn't done has worked so that's also why your case against Dash on the basis of "ethics" looks slightly disingeneous at best and crooked at worst if I may say so. Market theory insures he is incorrect. The majority buys at the top and sells at the bottom That wasn't the point. The point was availability. A market is not a socialist politburo charged with ensuring equal distribution. (Nor is a mining algo for that matter). It's a mechanism of distributing to those who value the commodity. People who buy "high" are using other's sense of value as a guide. People who buy low are using their own. For example, I bought bitcoin years ago when it was cheap because I valued it. The market, however did not value it (relatively to today). Similarly, if bitcoin goes to $50,000 millions of people will be investing because the general, uninformed public only invest in stuff when it's expensive, not cheap. Thats why I don't have much sympathy with the accusations levelled at Dash on the basis of mining history. It's irrelevant now and people trying to make hay out of it are welcome to their view but it flies in the face of what we are observing day after day and in fact actually makes you look like you don't trust your own b.s.

[...] Thats why I don't have much sympathy with the accusations levelled at Dash on the basis of mining history. It's irrelevant now [...] You move the goal posts but that still doesn't absolve your error. The point is an overly centralized distribution can't become less centralized to attain a normal equilibrium that would have been possible without the instamine. Free market is synonymous with decentralized market.

The Dash folks have developed a lot of interesting stuff since then and seem to continue to do so instacash has no problems with instamine I was there on the first seconds of dash/xcoin and it was certainly a dishonest and deceptive scam. There are dash clones. Some will eventually branch off and create things that dash does not have. The only person worth anything from the dash team is evans. He will eventually realise his scheme will be seen as a scam. He will either leave and start a new project that is not based upon a scam else he will leave to spend some time in prison. The few people here pumping/protecting it are the same few that have always been pro captive instamine scams. The 2 biggest pro dash protectors and pumpers....much much more enthusiastic about the dash scam than these guys have gone silent. One totally turned against dash and said it was a scam after all after arguing for months it was not a scam and that dash was totally above board. The other has gone more quiet since he was proven to be the first person to call out the xcoin captive instamine on the xcoin thread. So he now looks crazy to be saying there was no instamine. After that point how can he justify slashing the minting? ANYONE believing the crazy arguments that dash is not a scam is beyond help. Let them stay with dash until it finally get crushed. There is simply no upside for dash from this point. 1. it gets larger and the authorities will take note of all the scam evidence there in black and white. It's shocking evans and co are not already facing charges. 2. it shrinks and is over taken by other projects with no obvious dishonest and deceptive start. ANYONE investing in Dash at this point is crazy. If you love the idea of masternodes and all their other gimmicks then find a clone for 100th of the price and get behind that. The profits there are huge compared to what you will ever get from dash at this point. Evans should retire from dash, take his "team" and start a new project.

^^ Try not to appear so desperate or you'll look like you're helping the cause Sounds like a typical nonsense reply. If that post looks like it is helping the cause to you that would explain why don't consider dash to be a scam coin. BTW where do you get the idea I gain or lose from Dash rising or falling? I see no personal gain for me guaranteed either way. As I said before. Even the 2 most significant darkcoin pumpers and protectors have either turned against dash and now call it a scam, or have gone almost silent on the matter. One said he dumped out and now joins in with outing dash a scam. The other one is into every single coin on this board. Dash is going nowhere but down and out. Sad, but a lot of people you scam enablers and pumpers have sucked in are going to lose their funds

Our trollero friends are getting desperate, what will they try next? "Don't use Dash, it gives you cancer!!!"? A term worth keeping in mind when reading their endless attacks on Dash is "confidence trickster". The most obvious path to scamming someone is to first try to win trust by pointing out how dishonest and untrustworthy everyone else is and that's very easy to do against a coin with unbreakable anonymity, it's impossible for the coin being attacked to provide proof in it's defence but it's equally impossible for the attacker to provide proof of their allegations. Crypto can be a dangerous and lawless place, for every group of developers trying to build innovations on Satoshis foundations there's another 10 trying to lure you into their get rich quick schemes. Beware the snake oil sellers and their pitches, they can rarely provide proof of either the failings of what they're trying to discredit or the virtues of what they're selling. Imho the most at fault are regulators, one of the biggest wake up calls when new to cryptocurrency is the removal of all the layers of protection they've built up over the years and that leaves us very vulnerable, we're perfectly capable of using our own judgement an diligence but protection from needing to weakens our judgement (and those protections cost the fiat system billions every year, all paid for by the users). Dash is always at the top of the altcoin section because it's constantly having to defend its self from constant attack from a small number of individuals, why is that? Dashes developers have responded repeatedly to claims of an unfair launch and bad crypto yet are asked over and over to repeat the exact same responses, always by the same few individuals, why do they attack so relentlessly? Despite all this disruption Dash has continued to innovate and overdeliver and our trolls put a great deal of time and effort into preventing that from being know. Don't take my word for it, see for yourself: https://www.dash.org/A few news articles: http://dcebrief.com/the-future-of-cash-vs-the-future-of-money/http://www.peakprosperity.com/discussion/97335/money-preparedness-five-blockchain-currencies-compaired-more-useful-national-currenhttp://dcebrief.com/op-ed-bitcoin-survives-its-latest-storm-hurricane-hearn/http://forklog.net/lead-developer-of-dash-believes-users-will-have-to-seek-a-bitcoin-alternative/http://cointelegraph.com/news/are-bitcoin-transactions-traceablehttp://cointelegraph.com/news/spread-bitcoin-even-if-it-failsAll are welcome in Dash, even our troll friends.
