I tend to assume they overall will have a gain whatever will be the outcome of the event they are betting on because me, as a average Joe, can't really believe someone is really bearing the risk of losing those amounts of money.

Some people are willing to risk huge amounts through the yolo strategy to win big which is why the whale who placed this bet probably didn't use any strategy. High risk, high reward basically.

For example, there was this one gambler who gambled his entire life savings on roulette(Red or Black) and ended up winning luckily.

Yep, know that story and I disagree with you on that particular one : that guy who sold everything he had to bet all on red ( and luckily won) had organized a a good media coverage on social media, documenting and filming the whole story and the journey to the casino and am quite confident that if he had lost that bet the would still have had a return of popularity that he could have monetized someway.

So yes I still think he had a bigger strategy in play beside the main bed bet.

@Steve this is what I was discussing with my friends after I told them that a gambler actually wagered on Japan to win the World Cup, and initially we all roasted the gambler but when Japan qualified we all were shell shocked. Furthermore what happens if he’s actually right, because this will be one of the biggest upsets in modern day football but till Brazil is there I’m yet not picking anyone else to win this tournament.

Lol. Come on. Japan made it to the round of 16 due to a mix of skill and luck which is why expecting them to win the cup just because they qualified for the next round is silly.

Also, don't forget the fact that they lost against Costa Rica who weren't exactly in their best form. Am not expecting Brazil to win the cup either since they are over-dependent on certain players like Richarlison etc.

ops I lost the bet today after many long bets . My prediction did not work correctly today . South Korea played an incredible game today. They beat Portugal by scoring a goal at 90.1' Even though the bet was a small amount, the losing hurt me a bit. But the amount of enjoyment I got from watching the game.  The pain of losing a bet is much smaller than that lol

I had 2 bets with Serbia winning the game which I lost after I had reasons to believe at 2-1 Serbia will close the game but it didn't happen and the 2nd one that I won with Serbia scoring 2 goals in first half but overall not a great day for me either.

Moving further for tomorrow, I'm thinking to place a bet on SUA to qualify with odds being pretty attractive and overtime/penalties are also a possibility in this game.

One small problem which is not a big issue but, every time I enter lobby, it asks for username, and when I enter "slaman" or "slaman29" or "BigSlam" (that is me on Clubtalk) it says it is always taken so I always have to enter a new username. And next time you have to use another new one.

Fifa finally released updated brackets and added points from all the people around the world who predicted world cup matches.
This is very good news for me and for Sportsbet sponsored World Cup competition on Fifa website, and I will tell you why.
I am currently first place with from all our 51 bitcointalk fellow members, and I have 112 points at the moment as you can see in image I posted:

I have to say it's not really that much of smart decision even if he got popular about it. I mean could he made "some" money out of it, sure he could definitely try but after he lost, it would be like maybe a week before everyone already forget about him. This is why it is always an idiotic over to put all of your money into just one bet.

Holy heck, what a struck of luck. Germany only won once as well but you managed to get alot from a single free chips. I had mine on France but lost both of them in BJ, I should have gone for Roulette as well I guess lol. Even Brasil B didn't have to push hard for anything and risk of getting some stupid injuries or cards that could take them out of next world cup matches.

Very poorly. I'm "Sojourner" in all these games. Mid table in pool, but Matchday 3 saved me actually as I started below 50th place! Now a respectable 20+ position thanks to some awesome upsets. Managed to get closer yesterday too, but I doubt I'm climbing into Top 10.

Do you guys know how to access the bracket? I forgot where it is, tried clicking all the World Cup links in promotion page but just can't seem to find the bracket link. Don't think I did well but somehow feel like I got Japan and Morocco at least correct. At least you have something to keep you busy now
