Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

I think cryptocurency that could replace the bitcoin is cryptocurency the price is almost the same with bitcoin, but we know that above cryptocurency currently only bitcoin and ethereum. Eth course the price is still far away, so I think the next few years no one can replace bitcoin. Smiley

The only way bitcoin will be replaced as the foremost crypto, is if the United States government makes its own version of bitcoin for public use. Even then, bitcoin will persist, and I actually imagine a scenario where bitcoin might be more expensive, due to the anonymity it affords. But if any major government releases a coin that is backed by said government, investors will flock to it.

i wish to be a bagholder of the crypto that will replace bitcoin if btc really will be replaced by another. I miss the chance of having a bag of bitcoin during the time when its price is just cents. I could have bought thousands if i just knew.

Well that's a bit obvious, isn't it?  That's like saying I wish I could've had the chance to get free money...

There are some good options out there that could have the chance to gain maybe as much value as bitcoin, but probably won't necessarily "replace" bitcoin... bitcoin is meant to be a "gold standard" to all cryptocurrencies, but there are alot of other cryptos out there that pose to fix some problem of bitcoin; whether that be pruning tactics, block sizes, anonymity problems, etc.

this is just my opinion, bitcoin will replace dollar system, blockchain will replace bank system, after long time maybe 100-500year people create new currency, higher technology than bitcoin, then people use it and leave bitcoin.
I can say never for this, bitcoin will replace the dollar system, just be a realistic, man. dollar give a big role for bitcoin's value. it's will never happen except the bitcoin can build their own value.

Yeah that is true. Well we can think about it but we can never go back. Back when a box of pizza is priced with a lot of bitcoin but now you just need 1 and you can buy a lot of pizza.  Grin

So far, bitcoin is the only major digital coin. The second coin is the Ethereum. If that survive the recent crisis, it could be big.

No I think that the chance is very small that another cryptocurrency is going to take over Bitcoin because Bitcoin is one of the most popular one.
It will make more sense if Bitcoin takes over a other crypto currency.

yes there is no doubt about this that bitcoin is the world number one crypto currency but on number two now we can see the One con has taken the place o Ethereum. now we can that after bitcoin One coin is the world second crypto currency. but still bitcion does not need for any currency and it can continue its status without bitcoin.

What any other cryptocurrency can take place of bitcoin, it doesn't make any sense to me because nothing can survive in long term like this real and only crytpocurrency.

Yes and if we find any new and innovative currency that holds better features then bitcoin then people will definitely switch to that currency as every one wants to make good profits.

The barrier is very high, we have seen many contenders and none have thus far been able to.

Yes and its not easy to replace bitcoin as if we talk about digital currency then I think bitcoin is the best and it will be very hard for any other crypto to replace it very easily.

yes  i am agree with you. i think other crypto currencies may be replaced by bitcoin, but bitcoin will not replace by any other currency. because bitcoin can maintain its position very easily.

Yes it could happen but i doubt very much it will happen the short to medium term, to actually make bitcoin obsolete would be a achievement.
It can happen but Bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency so I do not believe that it is going to be taken over by a other cryptocurrency.
The chance is bigger the Bitcoin will take over a other currency.

One thing all altcoins have in common is that they will end up drying out. No one serious will invest money in altcoins because of they think it has a good future potential. It's just the fact that altcoins are being pumped and dumped constantly, which makes them interesting for short term traders.

Short term traders gets benefited in bitcoin too. That don't make much difference. Many have tried to create better protocols, but nothing ever overtook TCPIP nor HTTP nor FTP either for their respected roles... This clearly means that no altcoin you can create today is ever going to overtake bitcoin. No matter how advanced it is.

I don't know in Future it may happen I am not sure. But at present in cryptocurrency world, The Bitcoin is the leader for all coins. Yes, there are many cryptocurrencies there. But no one can touch the Bitcoin price. And the usage of Bitcoin is very easy. All gamblers are like to use this Bitcoin for betting. So I think now no other currency will replace Bitcoin.

It might be replaced by many cryptocurrencies if it does not achieve what it was supposed to in the first place.
And what it will be that 'thing' bitcoin supposedly needs to achieve? Total world domination? Bitcoin used by everyone with internet access in the world?
How many years it will pass when we will know for sure that bitcoin has failed us?  There is too many questions here and no specific answers.

Stop for a moment and think - why exactly bitcoin is do unique? Because it is most technologically advanced coin? Nah, there are more sophisticated coins on the market.

So why bitcoin is the king of cryptocurrencies?
