How many newbies are mining?

Noooob since the 5th and I've almost got my first coin mining at ~160m h/s for ~12hrs a day using deepbit.

i have been mining since the 7th of june, started on my laptops cpu, moved to my friends gaming rig he built last month, now i went and got a 6870 for 200 and a 700 watt psu for 50. put it into an old desktop i wasnt using now im getting 300mhash/s. my friends computers getting 211 mhash/s. i set up both the computers on deepbit.net. i wish i had been more active on the forum instead of reading mostly. i was a lurker, now im considered a troll. it kind of sucks but oh well.

you know, a teamspeak or ventrillo server might be a good idea.

HI - been lurking in the shadows for a month or so, but this is my first post 

I've been mining for two weeks on a couple of CPU's and a laptop GPU but was only collecting about 0.02btc per day (maxing out at 7 mhash/sec).

My old 2006 Mac Pro really needed a bit of an upgrade so amongst a few other bits I found a XFX HD5870 for £120 (UK).
Tested that on and off for a day or two, but was disappointed to only get about 114 mhash/sec in OS X. Since then have discovered that Apples open CL implementation isn't the most efficient out there.

I've now installed Ubunutu on a partition, and overclocked / underclocked the 5870 to core 950 Mhz / Memory 300 Mhz.
I use Phoenix with the phatk kernal and now pull in a respectable and stable 420 Mhash/sec at 75ºC.

I've been running with that setup for around 24hrs now and mined just under 1BTC on Slush's pool. I think this will drop dramatically in a day or two when the difficulty rises... although I still don't really understand what drives that.

I'm sceptical by nature and to be honest I really don't know how bitcoins will go in the future, especially after the past few days, but one can hope. My main target at the moment is to cover the cost of GPU and electricity whilst slowing padding out my wallet with a few BTCs.

So far I've really enjoyed the learning process and tinkering to get to where I am.
I now know a little about bitcoin, overclocking, and Linux where previously I knew zilch, so for me its already worth it. Plus my Mac has a shiny new upgrade and is now a semi decent graphics machine too (I spend half my day in photoshop, so the GPU really helps)

My regular desktop CPU does about 2.5 Mh/s, so after an hour to see if it would get any faster I turned it off as a waste of time.

But it would be nice to see a how-to for noobs who aren't computer whizzes, which says how to do it. All the explanations I've seen go over my head.

I've been mining for a month now and reading here the whole time about mining and BTC in general.

I'm stuck with an Nvidia GTX 470 for the time being...maybe in another month that will change, depending on what things look like.

Mining at 60Mhash/s with a GTX460, just for fun really, I love the idea and could be very disruptive and exciting in the future.

If you have a gaming rig anyway, you've got nothing to lose really, electricity is cheap. It's a bit disconcerting to see the pool performance rising from 1500Gh/s to 1850Gh/s though.  What will it be tomorrow?

I started two days ago, I have pretty much every machine and spare part running for a total of 1Ghash/s.  I'm not looking to make a "quick buck" more than I think it is interesting that I can make my existing hardware pay for itself and enjoy the process.  (I've rebuilt all my machines so far, cleaned up their cables for airflow, etc.  It's been a blast)

I have been mining for almost a month now. But I only have one ATI Radeon HD 5750 and it sits in my iMac.
This only gives me ~ 74 MH/s. I figure if I had it running under Arch Linux instead of OS X I could get twice as much.

Been mining since I heard about BitCoin, which was about 2 days ago.
300-310 MHash/sec on 5850.

Unfortunately I'm only mining at around 4mhash/s. Kind of useless, so I guess I'll stop when I hit 0.001 BTC. Yay, a tenth of a cent!

Actually at the current price it'd be $.02. That's my two cents on this issue... hah see what I did there...

Been following Bitcoin for a while now, but decided to jump in.  Doing mining, testing things out, and really happy with the results, but I'm running a laptop, so no real expectations.  Hoping to buy a mining rig in the coming months and see if I can really make anything happen with this.

Been mining for a month....looks like the large increase in mining is going to cause a pretty severe difficulty correction soon.

Not just an increase in mining, but an increase in the quality of mining hardware. Currently about 9.71 blocks are being solved every hour, and the system is supposed to keep it around 6, so I think we'll see a pretty big increase in difficulty, but with the volatility of the market on Mt. Gox right now, we don't know if the value of mining will go up or down.
