Well, do you think you could make a payback period of about 200 days and still make profit off of a rig that I would setup?

Of course I'm not thinking about making a profit from rig you are making Smiley

All my investment was in cards and PSU. I bought good r9 390 and will sell them for 75% of initial price

So definitely my ROI is not 200 days

IMHO, besides a decent gaming card with lots of RAM for complex games and VR, very good cooling fans - esp those MSI Twin Frozz ones - the 390s are infact very good ETH mining cards - down side she is a bit of a power demon but easily undervolted and overclocked to above 30MHs.... resale value is very good, expect better ROI.

If I provided you good and useful info or just a smile to your day, consider sending me merit points to further validate this Bitcointalk account ~ useful for future account recovery...

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1564664.0

ETH will get difficult because people are all jumping in, and the difficulty will grow rapidly as it moves to proof of stake.

We can get some extra life out of our rigs by switching to ETC.

ETH hashrate has actually flattened out a bit the past week - but I suspect there's still some "ETH vs ETC" slosh going on and I don't anticipate the flat spot lasting very long.

Got the new rig up and running - usual PITA from running both AMD and NVidia graphics in the same machine ended up having to reinstall both sets of drivers once each (I do MooWrapper on the APU since it's too small to use for mining with) but got it working - and even finally dug up a copy of Genoil's latest to play on it.

Pair of 1070s running about 59 MH/s with nothing more than a 600 Mhz memory bump in Afterburner and power limit set to 90% (nvidia-smi shows the cards aren't QUITE hitting that limit anyway almost all the time), might play with the settings more once I verify stability but it's right in the ballpark I was expecting.

Nice part - I got to shut down one of my older Moo/Dnet specific Semperon machines, moved the HD7750 (low profile) card into the 3'd slot where it only blocks a LITTLE of the fan flow (pair of Gigabyte Windforces) - the #1 and #2 card clearance (they DO have one slot space between) seems to hurt the airflow MORE as the #1 card is running a couple degrees warmer than the #2. This allowed me to save a fair bit on power that was running the REST of that ancient outdated Semperon system while preserving it's primary function.

 8-)

Yes, 550ish watts might seem a bit high for a 2-card 1070 system - but I'm not doing "pure mining" and never planned to do so on it, the ETH mining is more in the nature of "pay off part of the cost so I can afford to build MORE systems to do the stuff I WANT to do on them".
Technically my MooWrapper work IS mining - via GridCoin - but it's NOT profitable nor do I think it IS possible to actually mine Gridcoin profitably. The extra income DOES cover a significant part of the electric cost for stuff I'd be doing ANYWAY though.

Oh yeah - open build, just screwed the MB into a 2' x 2' piece of plywood I use in my "home build multi-display/machine racks". Not even running an actual fan on it, plenty of random airflow as it is in this place with all the OTHER fans and the Evap cooler shoving drafts around.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!
Like something I said? Donations gratefully accepted. LYLnTKvLefz9izJFUvEGQEZzSkz34b3N6U (Litecoin)

sapphire rx 480 nitro 4gb here is about $70 cheaper than the 8gb model.

any thoughts if i should choose the 4gb over the 8gb model?

will the 4gb suffer the same fate as the 3gb 280x on dagger algo in the near future?

All depends if you plan to resell them after, as some people like here. The 8 Go version will have a better resale value due to its great performances in games.

Good question.

I mine 475 mh so I earn  200 usd after power every 10 days.
I got 3 reference sapphire. 470 s for about 560 which means they will be paid off in  28 days.

I could sell them for 150 each since 28 days past I would net 450 and that would be all profit.

But frankly I want 8gb cards now 470's or 480's. Since I have about 11 4gb cards and about 9 8gb cards.

I guess blending 4gb with 8 gb works

How lucky you are Sad. Prices is the USA have nothing in common with Europe's one. I was astonished when I saw that a card costing 460€ was priced 440$ in the USA Shocked.

What you earn of 200 USD in 10 days is from all the rigs. So you cannot use that to say the profitability of the 3 new cards to be paid off in 28 days.

I just converted one of my ETH rigs (R9 390s x 5) to mine XMR (Monero).

Its trading at 13++$ vs ETH 11.6$

I did this mainly to push my ROI faster... and since XMR is hot now.

Incidently, Claymore also has XMR miner... he just updated to v9.5 that supports all the new GPUs including RX400 GPUs and also Cryptonight / XMR mining at Nicehash and other pools. The Nicehash one pays directly to BTC. I tried Dwarfpool XMR and it can mine direct into my Poloniex account. From there, I just sell XMR to the open market and get BTCs.

I was thinking the same but once the diffcuity levels out would it be better than ether?
A lot of poeple are moving after the price jump.
And it has already dropped a dollar in price

I think its also harder to mine XMR, my strongest GPU the 390.... only gets 650-680h/s per GPU.

So lessons learnt from ETH circa 2015, if you are early miner in XMR, you will probably get some extras first before the crowd arrives. Also.... there isnt a good NVIDIA miner for XMR (the last one was dates 2014 and out of date).... in fact the only GPU miner that has been refreshed is currently Claymore's.... so diff levels will probably come from AMD miners and not the other half of the world

Its a Claymore miner.... so it was as easy as ABC.... I wonder if he would make this into a 3rd coin for dual mining ETH?

Thank you!

You should ask him

you are correct.  and i said

I did not say " I mine 75mh (3 cards)  which will pay off 3 cards in about 28 days "   = false statement

This is true amd is driving up the diffcuity.
But as of now that the xmr roller coaster ride is over it's settled around .019 btc same as eth.
I have around 128mhs on eth so I'm looking at 300ish before power
And on xmr I have 3800hs which is around 300ish before power
The kicker is claymores dual miner with eth. Siacoin pays my power bill.
But like you said those that mined xmr before hit the jackpot as far as alt-coins go.

I don't worry about missing the boat on a coin.

I had a good friend that, always mentioned if and how powerful the word really is.

He would always say "if your grandmother had balls she would be your grandfather"

Sound stupid and crazy but it is just as true as saying

" if I mined xmr two months ago I would have scored big time"

The good thing here is.

Having two gpu coins that turn profit means more value to your gpus.

Resale will be good and mine on.

As usual the early bird gets the worm, and the little birds had 2 years to horde all the worms they wanted for this huge jump in value.  But who would have guessed that all the drug addicts and dealers would have started using Monero as their payment of choice.  Cheesy

Anyway now that XMR is thrown into the mix of commercially mined coins, profit is basically the same across the board.  I do notice that XMR algo is much more efficient in regards to power usage, especially on my 290s.  The sound level in my shop from the fans has dropped in half which is a bit of mind freak.

Id be interested to see how the efficiency compares to ethash, I have yet to put a watt meter on my rig.

Guys... I made up my mind and gone to Nicehash, pays once a day direct to BTC.

----begin-batch file-----
set GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
NsGpuCNMiner.exe -o stratum+tcp://cryptonight.usa.nicehash.com:3355 -u <BTC-Addy> -p x
pause
----end-batch-file-----

One of strongest rig and the first rig I built for ETH in January is now mining XMR.

5 x MSI-R9-390 8GB

3630-3650 hash/s

Seems Claymore miner can push the 390s more aggressively using -a 4 swicth (for faster GPUs) and -h 1372 (I used the 290x value)

now.... 4330 hash/s

According to Nicehash, 0.0183 BTC per day.... with BTC going up... I think we have a winner here!
