Do you have any experience with the -h value to use for 480s? Best I can get is 640 h/s on stock settings using -h 1024

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

You guys should continue to move more rigs over to XMR. It's helping the ETH difficulty 😉

LOL... nice try!

One of the small ETH farm I know shared with me that their 3.3GH/s farm, use to get 5 payments per day at ethpool, now with recent difficulty level moving even higher, they only get 4 payments a day.

Imagine that.... for us small timers, how to keep up?

according to Claymore's FAQ, 290x optimum -h value is 1372, so i followed this a base for my 390.
I you start at 1372, technically the 480 may be able throttle higher... IMHO

The problem im seeing with Monero mining is that it seems very hard to earn anywhere near the estimated amounts.  Im estimated to earn about .6 xmr on this rig but I only earned about .4 in a 24 hr period.  Maybe this is due to the big variations of network hashrates, but 30+% variance is just crazy and unreliable for a miner.  I have noticed similar under performance the last 3-4 days as well.

How has the xmr mining been for you ?

On etc and eth I can earn very close to projected amounts, with very little variance.

Random thoughts:

XMR price is higher than ETH, ETC = more profit when you convert to cash
Diff level for ETH is in the "gedzillions" --- see whattomine.com
Think ETH in the last 3 month of 2015 -- its all about timing and the early bird
XMR is hot at the moment - so why not use the same gear to mine a higher price coin?
I think XMR will be good short term strategy for profit taking - helps me ROI my gear faster
If I would to convert all my ETH gear to XMR, I would do it....  Shocked... anything is possible in the GPU mining world!

i am up to 21 gpus

13 eth 8 xmr
I order another gpu
So,I will be up to 22 gpus.

I am nearing my heat limit in house.

If it were late October I could go,to 30 gpus
I think I will not order more gpus for a little bit longrt

Well these coins mine easier then btc did back in the day.

The stability of the rigs has been decent..

I had one issue with all the gear I shorted one mobo trying to stuff it in a case.

When I ran 23 gpus back in 2012 I was pushing 5-6 K-watts

Eth and xmr are not as harsh. On gpus
Btc was hard on gpus.

I don't overclock my gpus so it,is,not, that, loud just a bit too hot.

I actually want to do more rigs but for. Now it is too hot.

I'm in the same boat. I want more gpus but dang it's hot outside(Florida) so I don't what it hot inside too. End of this month I'll set up some more

yeah NJ has been really freaking hot this year.

Back to these coins. ETH and XMR  I am spending .18 cents a kwatt and still making money.

On Oct 1 I drop to 9 cents for power.

I think I will go from 22 to 28 gpus  then last the winter. With that.

XMR and ETH

after full 36 hours mining XMR at NC and Dwarfpool, looks like its about the same after converting to BTC vs ETH

However:

1. Difficulty in ETH is growing at crazy rate, and expect less and less ETH per 24 hours mining.

2. XMR difficulty is also growing but still not as big as ETH, expect this to grow (think ETH end 2015).

3. XMR price can go higher as "privacy, security and anonymity" become more in demand vs Bitcoin.

4. ETH price going higher?..... after the DAO mess, not too sure about going up any sooner...

5. ETH will go POS next year, XMR is POW forever --- so XMR as a long term mining choice is good.

6. XMR has a memory intensive algo - so I hope this Cryptonight algo doesnt end up on an ASICS chip

7. XMR GPU mining is AMD centric and that means.... our existing ETH rigs can be recycled.

All is true, but

SIA is on rally now

ETC is slightly more profitable than ETH

So dual mining, even with higher energy consumption is more profitable than XMR. It is now

If you are going to mine XMR and stash them - that may payoff big time in future. Or may not - if it is a bubble

I can add a little bit to the list.

XMR is power efficient for the earnings to gpu watts (old gpus are now more profitable)

XMR algo is very inefficient for gpu hash rates ( 700 h/s vs ethash 29 mh/s for fast gpu)

XMR has a low coin supply, further adoption and need for privacy could cause a moon

I think we have for a while now been experiencing the hostile takeover of corporate mining outfits, that is Chinese miners and other low electric rate areas deploying massive gpu farms.  We are in a downwards trend of diminishing profits and will continue to see this until that margin comes to the point that those outfit are just barely profitable.  So unless new money..lots of new money can come into the market we will be slowly squeezed out.  It's then time to decide what to do, sell the gpus or keep a rig around for the next boom.

Speaking of booms.  If there are some coins with large market caps and lots of farms operating (at low margins), then if a boom happens those farms will just move hash around and there will not be much profit.  We need a mining collapse to wipe out the farms, for them to sell everything and reset the total global gpus to a smallish amount.  Then if a boom happens you can mine at high profit until the farms start building up again and repeat the process.

you're right.... overall temps have come down and GPUs dont heat up as much, as I can see fans turning not as hard.

hope i can see a lower power bill next month.

as for goliath vs home miners...... until we have GHs... its not realistic to mine with a few rigs, unless if we have a private pool where all the home miners in world team up to mine as one!

However its small money (a few hundreds here and there) - its still good spending income. However dont make this your day job.

one of my business partner, setup a 3.3 GHs ETH farm 25 x rigs, he started early, got lucky with ETH boom in end 2015 before the crowd came in - now he has ROI his investment - and used the same rigs to run Claymore XMR from Claymore ETH.... everything from this end onwards is profit (his power is cheap).... its all about timing and I can see that in XMR.

Yeah I will mine xmr for a month or more holding the coins

I will mine eth and sell to,btc "

Maybe 20 gpus on eth and 8 gpus on xmr.

I have too much shit going on real world .i spent a lot of money getting a new kitchen done.

They ran over time wise I fired them at day 69.

I thought it was fully done.  But I discover some not to code wiring.

I just finished it my self. Today.  I will also, adjust two cabinet doors the next two days. So I think the kitchen will be fully finished by Monday. The 12th of sept which is about 87 days.
